What a pleasant found for us? Easily one of the best Japanese market in town!! We happened to stop by chick fil a for a quick bite and notice a Japanese supermarket next door. Just curious about what it carries as we LOVE Japanese food. And their selection surprises me. A LOT of fresh meat, fresh fish, sashimi, frozen Japanese food, pastry, Japanese version of drinks. And a BIG selection of Sake!!! All at great price!! Pick up a few items to try. The origiri (spicy salmon) is a HUGE surprise. It is fresh, with a clean spicy taste and taste absolutely delicious!! I especially liked all the unique Items that I don't see anywhere else, AND not at Tokyo Central. Def. will support this shop though it is further for me to get to. I just need to recall the location.~ Across from Del Amo where BofA was on the corner...and this Market has a Chik-fil-A at the end of the parking lot. I love Seiwa market! My brother's always asking me to get him something from chic-fil-a, and this place is conveniently next door. It's a small Japanese market with a surprising amount of variety, and a number of great deals on snacks and candy. (They also deeply discount stuff near the sell-by date). I come here for the great deals, the variety, the convenient (to me) location, and I think the employees are pretty awesome too. They're always nice and friendly, and one time they even helped me find some new fruit candy to try out when I couldn't make up my mind. As others have pointed out, they've also got a selection of freshly cooked stuff at some hours, and packaged food too (like onigiris and bentos). They look pretty tasty! Small little store, but packed with Japanese items! The first time I went, they did charge me different from advertised price, but now when I go, I check everything. Their prices are not too bad! I saw them on a YouTube channel and the guy got the soft shell crab roll. The chef makes it fresh! You pay first, then go back to the chef. This is what I came for! It's incredible on how many Japanese groceries you can find within two blocks in the city of Torrance and unfortunately Seiwa is the least sexy Japanese grocery of them all. [Pros]: Cheaper prices on drinks like Ito En. They have a hot deli and it operates from 10 AM to 1:30 PM (except Sunday). You first pay in advance at the cashier and show the receipt to the back kiosk. The preparation takes 10 - 15 minutes and hot food options include miso katsu donburi, softshell crab roll, hand roll trio, and curry bowl. [Cons]: Smaller grab-and-go sushi and bento selection. I got a poke bowl and it had no avocado (just seaweed, snapper, tuna, salmon, octopus, yellowtail). Quality wasn't bad, but it didn't feel like a value buy. Garlic chicken karaage bento boxes were on sale ($6.49 each), but they were all sold out. Mitsuwa Marketplace at Del Amo Fashion Center and Tokyo Central have much better grab-and-go options. I will only come here if I want change of pace and get some hot deli items. read more

Found out about this market because of the FB Uni special AD :) The market has a great selection of beverages and cookies/snacks. The fresh-made sushi deli was closed on Sundays so I didn't get to try the softshell burger. We got futomaki and a sushi platter, with a tray of the Hokkaido Uni. Sushi was fresh, the Hokkaido Uni was to die for! I was happily surprised to find lots Made in Taiwan items in the market, including childhood favorite tea, ready to serve tofu soup packet etc. There were also lots of ready-to-eat Ramen packets and hot hot packets. Love those items, they are lifesavers on weekdays when you don't want to cook after a long day of zoom meetings! Noticed the fresh produce section is a bit smaller compared to other markets, even though they still have the most common items in good quality, fair price. read more

Love it here as they carry many items straight from Japan. But the best part is that they carry variety of cold canned coffees. The popular UCC and other coffees that most Asian markets carry are too sweet for me so l like the ones from Japan which are slightly sweetened. The have Boss, Wanda and Georgia brands. read more

This review is for the to go options alone. But wow I was not expecting such quality cuts of fish for the price. I came here after a bike ride on the boardwalk and I came ready to eat. There were so many choices and I was having difficulty picking the donburi or the sashimi plate. I went for the sashimi plate and opted in for 2 onigiris for some rice. Was definitely not disappointed. They even had a section for Hawaiian style meals. I went into it with low expectations as I've had similar plates from mitsuwa and Tokyo central, but this was by far THE BEST. The fish was extremely fresh no fishy taste or slimy textures, it was definitely restaurant quality. I recently went to wadatsumi down the street and can say that this over the counter sashimi plate was equal in comparison as far as taste and quality. Will consider making this a ritual after every run or bike ride. lastly the cashier was very bright and accommodating. She was very energetic and seemed happy to help you. read more

I love the bentos and to-go items they have at Seiwa! It never tastes pre-packaged or like grocery store food, it's always so delicious and I always grab an onigiri or sushi while I'm buying groceries here. Their jackpot roll is one of my favorites; a spicy tuna roll stuffed with a shrimp tempura and topped with salmon sashimi. We came here after mitsuwa because I didn't find everything I was looking for there. It's a decent sized little grocery store with a good selection of Japanese snacks. I was able to find all the snacks and pastries that I originally came to Torrance for. Some pastries were kept in fridge if you prefer them cold (like dorayaki), and some were left out in room temperature. So if you normally like it at room temperature and find it their fridge, just look in their snack aisles, and there's probably more stored outside. They had a good selection of cold beverages, dango, and mochi too. The store itself was clean, and there weren't too many people inside when we came on Memorial Day. They have a decent sized parking lot, and we had no trouble finding a spot. The cashier wore her mask and gloves too. They have grocery baskets by the entrance with sanitizing wipes to clean it. I found their prices slightly cheaper than that at Mitsuwa, as long as the items weren't on sale at Mitsuwa. I will definitely come here again for my Japanese snacks in the future! read more

Seiwa is a fully stocked Japanese food market and sells many kinds of sake and Japanese liquor.. What distinguishes it from their competitors is their freshly prepared sushi and sushi platers. Shin Nagata, the Seiwa chef, works at a Japanese restaurant in the evenings. He personally prepares sushi fresh at the store before 2 pm. I always place my order before 1 pm. By the way, you can't beat their prices for restaurant quality sushi. read more

There are the Big 3 of Japanese markets in Socal: Mitsuwa which veers toward a higher end feel by having more exclusive satellite stores at their flag ship store in Torrance. Tokyo Central née Marukai main store in Gardena has concessions for Japanese fast food. Nijiya market chain is the most similar to Seiwa in that it is more like a traditional, standard supermarket. Located on busy, wide Hawthorne Boulevard, Seiwa has a good stock of Japanese food items. Ready made Bento's, Nigiri Sushi & more traditional style rolls as well as Inari Sushi/"footballs" made of texturized soy bean braised in sweet Sho-yu/soy sauce. Onigiri (oh (nee ghee ree)/rice balls are also an option. It's late August, and what attracted my nose was the Honey Dew melon with orange flesh that exuded such a compelling deep ripe, sweet, flowery perfume that I couldn't resist buying the pale whitish orange orb. This melon went absolutely well with Prosciuto di Parma symbolizing the crescendoing harvest that marks the end of summer. Prices here are a bit higher than Tokyo Central, but people living in the more western & southern end of the South Bay will find it convenient in terms of saving time & gas. A top notch Japanese market with some of the best prices I've seen in LA having shopped at spots including Nijiya, Mitsuwa and Marukai. I stopped by on a late weekday morning to pick up supplies and I was very happy to see a great selection of beef and pork cuts for shabu shabu/sukiyaki/kiritoshi at very reasonable prices. Those who enjoy raw eggs and shoyu will rejoice at the availability of pasteurized eggs here. Frozen goods like kabocha (my wife's fave) were literally half the price of Mitsuwa, as a point of reference. For prepared foods, I was blown away by the quality of the gargantuan nigiri (eg. 5 pieces of hamachi for $6.49!) and kaisen don (all the usual sashimi suspects plus scallops for $6.95). The only shortcoming I noticed was a more limited selection of cookware. Even then, the sale on ceramic bowls, plates, etc. for $1/piece was pretty stellar. Being between home and work, Seiwa's quickly become my go-to market for Japanese noms. read more

Thrilled to find this place today. Great produce, ever-expanding selection, restaurant-bulk items, ceramics, deli/sushi case... all at least a dollar or two less than Mitsuwa. The aisles are very large, everyone is very careful and considerate and there's a large amount of frozen imported seafood - my favorite! Shares a parking lot with Chick-fil-A so many people are just waiting for mobile pickup in their cars, but it wasn't too crowded even at Saturday noon. Let's keep this place going! read more

I heard another Japanese market opened in Torrance from a friend and it was Seiwa Market next to Chick-Fil-A. If I am not wrong, this location was once a Fresh & Easy grocery store. I used to live in Torrance so I remembered right when I walked in because of the floor layout. They opened so many locations in so cal but closed down almost every store not too long after. Anyway, Its not very big like other competitors in Torrance like Mitsuwa and Tokyo Central (Marukai) but they do carry most of the essentials of Japanese groceries. They also have a small section of hot food along with onigiris for a quick grab. I did see some items that are hard to find at other markets here. One of my favorite snacks to get is Jagariko. These used to be on the shelves all the time but now its very hard to find. I have seen salad and cheese flavors at Nijiya Market in Little Tokyo but I havent seen Butter flavor forever. Well, Seiwa had it. It was odd because they ONLY had butter flavor. Market looked well managed and everything seems under very good control. Looked clean, friendly staff and stocked shelves. Prices of the groceries seemed reasonable. Japanese groceries are already a little too pricey and so the price isnt as competitive; its about the same. Depending on the sales that store promotes every week, prices can fluctuate easily for certain items. Despite the fact that I found Butter Jagariko, I dont think I want to drive all the way down to Hawthorne Boulevard for Japanese groceries when I can go to larger markets like Tokyo Central on Redondo Beach Blvd or Artesia Blvd which isnt too far from freeway exits. If groceries that I need arent found at 4 other Japanese markets in Torrance, Seiwa is my last bet. read more

There are three Japanese markets within about a 1/2 mile radius. What sets this one apart is the relatively easy parking (on Sundays) and easy-in/easy-out access. It's located along busy Hawthorne Blvd, you can't miss it. Former Fresh and Easy location, the building still has that quaint feeling. Selection is great for basics, although if you're looking for a particular brand, it may not be available. Prices are on the higher side, though some staple items were on sale or reduced slightly. They added a hot food/deli section since my last visit a few years ago and the offering looked appetizing although I was already full from lunch (which was a good thing b/c I probably would have bought some I didn't need haha). Store is clean and well-organized. Can't say I can do my everyday shopping here but it's a good option. read more

I love going to Asian food markets and because majority of supermarkets I've visited are Chinese markets, I get really excited when I see a Japanese market so I knew I had to stop by. This place is located near Walmart and it's a small store of a few aisles but it does have Asian fresh produce, bakery, snacks and hot food. There's ample parking available. Because I came here in the evening, I was able to score the sushi platters 50% off. Oh yeah!!! I got shrimp tempura and crab roll, California roll. I was surprised that they dedicated one aisle alone for their alcohol (sake) drinks especially given how limited the number of aisles here. The prices varies depending on the age of the drinks. Sake is not my thing but I know Japs love it! The cashier service is friendly and quick. read more

Just like playing Pokemon Go, some awesome finds kept popping up on my visit here to Seiwa Market Japanese Grocery. Located at the old Fresh and Easy location next to Chick-Fil-A on Hawthorne Blvd, is this new grocery offering a variety of Japanese goods. It's well stocked with a variety of items from fresh produce to udon noodles to Cream Pan baked goods! I was so excited to see the Cream Pan baked goods especially their famous strawberry croissants. No need to go all the way to Tustin anymore because now Torrance has them at Seiwa. I was also quite amused to see all the cute snacks and drinks. I spotted Pokemon, Doraemon and Hello Kitty themed ones. There was just aisles full of flavorful goodies. Seiwa Market has good offerings at good prices and just like when playing Pokemon Go....gotta catch 'em all ;) read more
