Went in looking for pipe tobacco, and Select Leaf didn't disappoint. The counterman showed a good selection, and he was knowledgeable about the product. Their walk-in humidor is HUGE and well stocked, with cigars for every taste and budget. It did seem to be set a tad high on the humidity level, as some of the cigars had a sheen of moisture on the wrappers. I visit this store at least twice a month if not more. Their cigars are always fresh. I choose to support the local store, even though, as a veteran, they do not offer a discount. It's the only cigar shop in the area that does not provide a discount for veterans; in fact, it's the only store in the DMV. The last straw was today. As I walked in to purchase my usual items, which generally cost me approximately $106 to $140, the worker was standing outside smoking. As I got out of my car, he hurried into the store. Another customer approached, and he allowed the other person to enter the humidor. He kept looking at me as I walked towards the back as if to stop me. I asked if there was a problem or if he was closing the area. He looked at a picture of a woman on the door and then back at me. It was then I understood. I explained that she was not me, but he still seemed concerned. I showed him my ID, but he still appeared uneasy. I was mortified that I was being accused of being a shoplifter. I looked nothing like the picture, except that we both are black, and my skin is much darker. I am also a registered patron. During all the months going in there, this has never been a problem. I have decided never to go back there. All my friends and family, including veterans, deserve better humiliation with no apology. read more

First time here. Within 5 seconds of entering a staff member recognized I was new, maybe I had the look of one hunting to find something. He asked if he could help me with finding anything. Good first impression! I had a list of 7 cigars I wanted to try from the 25 top cigars of 2016. He asked if I had a ring size preference. He knew right where the exact cigars were as he lead me around getting them. He was polite and respectful. He asked me if I wanted any more. Nope. All done. I went to check out. I checked out with the cashier who was also polite and respectful. He wished me an enjoyable time with my selection. He was genuine. The staff may not necessarily "appear" to be approachable but the two who helped me were polite, respectful, and clean. I would say they are silent-strong type of characters. Nothing wrong them that at all. They both were extremely knowledgeable about cigars and the inventory based on my observations and conversation. I'll be going back! The selection of cigars was good and the walk in humidor keeps the cigars fresh. They also cary other tobacco and hookah products but cigars is their emphasis. The prices are reasonable, they are NOT too high. They have lounge chairs for smoking. The ventilation system is good. I was not accosted by any billows of lingering smoke or strong smells. Friendly regulars were talking and smoking. Nobody was rude. I felt that I could have joined them if I wanted to sit and smoke. If you wanted to get someone a cigar or nice lighter as a gift, or find a fresh quality cigar for yourself I would recommend this business. read more

Just walked in and was asked by a rather largely rounded man if he could help me. I asked if they had rolling tobacco. The round man literally grunted, sat down and turned his head to watch tv. I thought I had to wait for a commercial and when one came on and he continued to ignore me, I walked out. They have a large selection of pipes and seemed to have high end tobacco, but I wouldn't know. I was refused service with a grunt and dismissal by tv. As if I don't get that at home. It's hard to beat the great selection or friendly staff at this place. I have been going to this place for several years. The owner (Neil) is always very helpful and very knowledgable. I don't understand the other reviews that say the staff is standoffish or not military friendly. They have always been great with my wife when she has gone in to purchase things. This is a serviceable cigar shop. Decent selection of new releases when the reps bring the goodies. Don't expect much from events as this is more of a gathering of friends than the typical cigar lounge. Solid shop with expert advice. Fair prices, but the local color makes the higher price doable. An absolute heart-breaker that you cannot smoke in this shop. Absolute heart breaking. Nothing better than gabbing a cigar from the humidor, and lighting up...not here. However, on every other element or item, near perfect performance at the shop. May I recommend a gazebo in the grass area in the front of the shop? Seating too. Go for it, and watch some old timers visit your shop more often. read more

Very good shop. Great selection, very good prices that rival the online prices. Wide range of brands and decent selection of accessories. They also stock pipe tobacco although it is not the focus. The only downside is the insider only vibe I've gotten every time I've gone in. Usually there are a number if people sitting on the couch and I'll get a cool nod as I enter and am left to my own devices and wander the humidor unmolested. I've though about smoking a cigar here after purchase but don't feel entirely welcome. All in all a great shop to buy stogies at but not the most welcoming of establishments. read more

In response to the negative review by Daddy T: Your review is certainly skewed quite a bit. I work on the manufacturers' side do business with Rob and Neil and I've never experienced the things you described. Regarding the pricing -- you must be one of those people who troll the internet for $20 bundles and therefore you don't understand things such as MSRP: local businesses have to keep their doors open. The worst part is that you're too ignorant to realize that most brick and mortar stores charge MSRP, and have to tack on OTP/other taxes, in which they owe the state. The sales rep who says they hate dealing with this store... Their loss! I love my visits here! Regarding Rob and Neil-- they're great guys! Not every day at a cigar store consists of unicorns and rainbows. You probably aren't even a person who even frequents a cigar store , ergo, you don't know of the personalities that exist in a cigar lounge. Clearly they are doing a lot of things right, since they've been around for so long and they continue to grow. I'll just sum it up for you: If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen ! Very nice cigar shop! Great selection of well maintained cigars. The owner Neil, as well as the store Manager, Treba are very knowledgeable and helpful. Always good conversation from the fine group of guys that stay to enjoy a smoke. There is a big screen TV for whatever sports season is in play. There is a $10 minimum for credit card users. Select Leaf hosts cigar and other events that offer cigar specials, door prizes, and an all around fun time. Great selection of pipes and pipe tobacco as well. The worst shop in the area. The owner Neal/Neil (sp?) is a jerk, he's mean and very unfriendly unless you're an old regular. Having served the public as a civilian cop and Marine for years, i know a little about customer service. And, not much offends me. But, This guy doesn't deserve your decent and hard earned money. I asked him where the restroom was not knowing he was the owner and he mumbled and pointed with his thumb. The second time I went in... I got a phone call. I answered in a very low, non disturbing fashion and almost whisper, having been around the culture for a decade. After 10 minutes into my conversation he told me very rudely to take my call upfront. THIS WAS AFTER being in his shop sitting down and smoking for an hour and him sitting directly across from him. He and I were the only ones smoking at the time. How I was being disruptive was beyond me. BTW, you can't smoke there anymore. Prices are high and he's an absolutely jerk. He's known by his attitude by cigar reps from DC to NC. This is not a lie. One is a very good friend of mine who told me over dinner that he tries to avoid selling to that shop when he's working. The rest of the staff is pretty cool. No complaints. But the owner ....I WOULDNT DO IT. If you don't believe me... Stop by he's an older gentleman, tall with a full beard. He won't welcome you to the shop at all and may not utter a word to you unless he's ringing you up. read more
