This is my first time having physical therapy. I have found the team at select PT to be very efficient and warm. My therapist Kristin Overton is particularly knowledgeable and personable. She provides very clear instructions in the clinic and for home, with demonstrations (for home exercises, there are printouts that include frequency and duration). The time is split between the PT and assistants who guide me through exercises, while Kristin keeps an eye on me. With her, I get massage (yay!), more exercises and periodic assessments. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional. Best of all, I'm seeing results! read more

Not sure where the good reviews are coming from. They have one of the very worst front desk managers I have ever spoken to taking calls. Worse yet, he made numerous mistakes with my billing that resulted in them sending me to collections instead of charging the alternate card I put on file with them (more than once, mind you). Apparently the same jerk at the front desk with zero empathy just never bothered to do that and sent the file to collections. I was in the hospital at the time due to a more severe back injury than the one I came in with a couple months before, so of course I wasn't receiving whatever messages they were sending for a $45 bill. The therapists there at the time don't even work there anymore. When I called back to schedule more appts after getting out of the hospital, the same guy told me he would check what I needed to do to clear up the bill and schedule a next appt. Two weeks later I still had not received a call back to tell me anything, and when I called again it was the same attitude and lack of empathy on the other end of the phone. Now he's saying I needed to provide proof of payment (despite the collector not providing a way to pay on the web or in any way that provides a receipt). Instead of doing what any other professional organization would have done (call the collector and confirm it was paid), he told me that they can't schedule anything without proof of payment, which is impossible to provide when you paid over the phone. Of course he hadn't bothered to tell me that or call me back to let me know before I paid, I was now I gems that I needed to call them back and ask them to send some receipt. Of course by now the letter was shredded so I have nothing to go on. This egoistic creep didn't do his job and then expects patients to jump through extra hoops just to receive care in a cramped clinic (where he openly talks sh*t about them once they walk out the door or hang up the phone). What a terrible excuse for a PT clinic. Such a shame, it's so close to home, but I don't know how I can trust this place when they continue to employ uncaring people with no attention to detail or common sense. Just don't waste your time and money at this location. Find a clinic where people with heart work. Not someone who doesn't remember when he lost whatever passion he may have had for his work. read more

I have really enjoyed my care at Select in Berkeley with Cooper Fields. He is very attentive, careful and engaging. There aren't any trainers overseeing care instead of the PT, and there's a lot of 1-1 time. I also appreciate that this office is central and quiet - typically only me and one other patient receiving care at the same time. I am seeing a lot of improvement very quickly. read more

I just wanted to add that the gassy therapist is 100% true, but the bigger reason I stopped going there, and one that still really bugs me, is that the therapist offered to "cup" me. That's when they attach suction glass to your skin that proceeds to suck on you until you are bruised. This is complete psuedo science and actually quite harmful. It's hard to trust a place that relies on magic and hoodoo when your well being is in their hands. Edit: Since Select Physical answered me, I want to say again, cupping is not medicine. It is complete psuedo-science with zero proof of effectiveness. It was created to "remove toxins" from the body, and of course sucking on the skin cannot do that. It can, however, break blood vessels and cause scarring and infections. It's ridiculous and irresponsible to insist otherwise. read more

Brontë was amazing, very helpful and even though I never completed the whole series, I went from not being able to push off a wall to being able to do a plank without shoulder pain and take a yoga class again. My only complaint is the double booking- 2 clients are always booked simultaneously, it would be 5 stars otherwise. read more

Pay attention to their billing practice. I had several physical therapy appointments with Select Physical Therapy in June & July 2019 in Berkeley, CA. I paid by credit card on each visit, and never knew of any unpaid amount that I owed. However, last week (May 2020), I received a Collections Notice from Select Physical Therapy for a tiny balance that they described as "seriously past due". They threatened to proceed with collections and damage my credit rating in the letter. Confused at what the balance was, I called their Berkeley office and the manager didn't seem to know what's going on. After some conversations (and the manager kept saying "I don't know"), and when I checked photos of old receipts on my phone, I started to suspect that it was possibly an incorrect (under)charge they once told me, but they made it clear to me that i won't be responsible for it at the time. I asked the manager if that was what I was billed for, and the manager said again that he's not sure and needed to talk to their Sacramento office. I asked why I didn't receive any notice earlier for almost a year, but a collection notice during COVID-19 shutdown, which gave me virtually no time to verify or dispute the charge before my account gets sent to their collection agency. The manager confirmed that they have my current address correctly, but only said I should have received notifications earlier. *But I didn't.* I ended up paying the balance anyways without digging further. It's a small amount and I don't want to waste more time talking to the "I don't know" manager while dealing with their collection agency. read more

This place was great. I had a pretty severe back injury, and after 8 weeks, I graduated! Staff was very kind and knowledgeable. I love how much they responded to any questions or comments I had. I am in no pain at all now - better than ever! read more

I'm really grateful for the supportive staff that been always helpful and cheerful. I came in with stabbing sciatic pain that didn't seem to stop no matter what I did. I went to 5 deferent PT's and no one seemed to care that much or help in a significant way but then I met Steve, It was such a relief to know that his going to take care of me, I felt really safe under his care. Super professional and careful, actually interested in how I'm doing and did his best so I'll feel better. Unfortunately have to give these guys a poor review. I saw them for weeks with little to no improvement in my progress. I finally went to a different pt, in two sessions with the new PT I've learnt and improved significantly more than I did with these guys. Here are a list of things these guys need to work on - You spend half of the session with student aides who don't really understand what they're doing and ultimately ends up being a waste of time - you may as well do the exercises at home. They're often distracted and not really paying attention - they don't provide your feedback to the physio so any issues you're having go unaddressed. - The 30 minutes I spent with the PT didn't help one bit. It was a strange massage/arm pulling that did nothing to help. In contrast the time I spend with the new PT is guided step by step to prepare me for the strengthening exercises. - The 30 minutes with the PT is spent in a public space where the PT is often distracted chatting with others and responding to other clients and not really paying proper attention - ignoring a lot of the feedback you're giving. In contrast the new PT has a private room and constantly responds to feedback. - No home plan was given unless prompted, there was no checkup to ensure proper form or a review to add more exercises. It just felt really half hearted. The new PT has an online system where a program is emailed with links to videos, audio and a list of how often and when to do the exercises. The PT will take you through the exercises first. - Didn't give any information about the various stretches that could be used to relieve some of the pain. - Little to no advice on improving posture except when prompted I think with a little effort they can improve their service a lot but ultimately for me 90% of the sessions were a waste of time. read more

I've been coming here for 3 years each year a different injury and I've had different physical therapist and every single one of them are super nice and really good at their job. They explain things really easily and they make sure you're comfortable and if you are not they will adjust you to make sure your comfortable. I really recommend this spot I love it. read more

Dr. Steve Sunseri is amazing. He's helped me work through some very painful issues. I had slipped and caught myself on a very long set of stairs gave me pain for over a year. Within weeks, I was feeling so much better. A year later... my shoulder is perfect. I've had severe foot pain, so back for the second series with Steve. Both times he has provided great feedback so I could properly heal. For me, he's explained the mechanics my body was experiencing... helped me visualize what was happening below the skin. So incredibly attuned to what the body is doing. He is a genius. And he has magical hands! (my opinion) I'm a critical customer... this is high praise. I hate to tell everyone about him... If I need him again... I'll have to wait! read more

Shannon Thompson, the clinic director at this location, has been instrumental in my recovery from a debilitating injury to my SI joint. I limped into her office a month ago in a lot of pain, and feel significantly more mobile, agile, and in less pain after 5 sessions. Shannon is incredibly knowledgable and gifted practitioner with a very patient and kind demeanor. I felt instantly at ease in her presence, and she took the time to answer all of my questions. These guys were absolute professionals throughout my entire recovery from shoulder surgery. My PT Steve was attentive to my particular needs and did a great job fine-tuning my workouts and setting up a clear path to healing. I felt leaps of progress after every single session. The staff made setting up and adjusting appointments very simple and texted reminders the day before each appointment, which was really helpful. It's also convenient that their location is less than a block from the Downtown Berkeley Bart. I left Physiotherapy Associates feeling way better than I did when I first arrived and credit Steve with getting me back to a healthy body. Must give Steve Sunseri 5 full stars. This guy is a total pro and very intuitive at what he does. He helped me effectively heal three very weird issues. A clicking hip, a sore knee, and an extremely odd pinching nerve in my heel. No more clicking, no more heel pain, and I'm back to running thanks to Steve and his thoughtful, measured approach. I've been seeing Shannon and Anna for a shoulder/neck injury. They (and the whole crew) are phenomenal. They include therapeutical massage, exercises, and sound advice. I have worked most with Shannon who has a very diverse and amazing set of skills to bring to the table. Anna as well has really helped me. The support staff as well, are personable, straightforward and very supportive in helping clients/patients to be able to do their exercises properly. I'm very happy to find this spot. read more

No praise is too high for what Steve has done for me in the past few months. I was sent to him for strengthening exercises, (thanks Dr. Arnold!) but since I was also experiencing lightheartedness, he went out of his way to persuade my physician (who must also do the hard job of getting my insurer's approval!) to allow Steve to help me. I was both surprised, and really didn't know what to make of his decision to help me with the 6-month-old debilitation, but I decided to have an open mind. Once approval was given, Steve began his diagnosis, and by my next visit, he had figured out the cause of my vertigo as well as the right solution, and my improvement has since continued steadily. Needless to say that my confidence in Steve and his assistants has grown with each visit. In addition to his wonderful skills, knowledge and ability to communicate clearly and patiently (in spite of a rather heavy work load!), Steve is very kind and genuinely interested in his patients' overall well being. read more
