I also wish I could post ZERO stars or less! It breaks my heart to see so many people losing their loved ones after being in this "hospital." My dad was transferred here last August after having an emergency tracheostomy at Henry Ford Warren. He needed a feeding tube as well, and was quickly gaining strength so he could tackle cancer treatment. He was stabilized at Henry Ford and his condition was improving so much so that they felt he could be discharged to a step-down hospital for further rehabilitation. Select Specialty is a STEP DOWN INDEED! He arrived on a Saturday, on Sunday he accidently pulled out his trach tube and the "nurses and doctors" were able to replace it without much to-do. However, he developed sepsis from this procedure. His symptoms were completely ignored by staff! He began exhibiting signs of altered mental state, which nurses told me were "hospital delirium," his pulse and oxygen rates were dropping, and his blood pressure was skyrocketing. This was a man who never had high blood pressure a day in his life! These symptoms were ignored for a full day. On Monday, he began expelling blood from his trach and feeding tubes, these symptoms were "noted" on his chart, but also ignored! Upon visiting him after work at 5:00PM, I witnessed him expelling blood through his trach and when I went to grab a nurse , I was told that he was doing that all day and that was "normal." In return, I replied, it is absolutely NOT normal because he wasn't doing that since he had originally been admitted to the hospital three weeks earlier. Later that night after visiting hours were over, I received a call from the nurse on call that my dad's health had rapidly declined and he was continuously expelling blood and they assumed he was bleeding internally. They sent him to Henry Ford Macomb to get a CT scan to see where he was bleeding from. After Henry Ford refused to admit him, he was then transferred to McClaren where he had declined too much and they were unable to help him. He passed from hemorrhagic shock very early Tuesday morning. When I returned to Select Specialty later that day, they already had his personal effects thrown in a garbage bag not even knowing that he had passed. There was an utter lack of care and empathy at this hospital and I feel pity for anyone who is a patient there, or has a loved one get admitted there. Unfortunately, filing a formal complaint against them with the State did nothing because the State didn't even investigate the actual complaint. They simply said the hospital was compliant with Medicare standards. Those standards must be pretty low! Now I'll always have to wonder whether or not my dad would have lived a bit longer if he didn't get sent to this hellhole! read more

Select Specialty Hospital is an awful place to send your love one. Please do not send your love one here. I would suggest you transfer or send them anywhere else except this hospital. My dad was transferred here and immediately after his health started declining. In fact, they let him die here. Horrible place to go for treatment. Why would they transfer him here just so he could die? If there was nothing else they could do, why transfer him. I can't wait until Justice is served. Everyone involved in my dad's death will be held responsible for it. Any doctor, practitioner, nurse involved will be held accountable for their poor negligence. They did not follow proper protocols, and because of that my dad died. Justice will be served. read more

My Mom died today at Select Specialty Hospital. The people who work here are amazing, and they took such good care of her, I can not thank you enough. We all have to go someday, and today was Mom's day, and SSH did so much to make it peaceful for her after her amazing struggle so she could finally rest. The peace I will carry with me through my life after this experience is priceless. The nurses and support staff did so much to make all of my mothers people who surrounded her comfortable. My Dad was put into this facility after he got stabilized at Ascension Madison Heights. He immediately started to decline and not much was done to address his main health concerns. It was quite clear from the start that they wanted me to "pull the plug", d/t my dad not getting any better. That's all they recommended from the start, was to let him go, as there was no hope for recovery. Staff was rude and stand offish. It always felt as tho they would prefer my dad to not be there. I can't explain exactly what it was, but something wasn't right. Yeah it looks nice and is clean, but staff is questionable. Please reconsider putting your family in this place. read more

The 1st time my Mother was in this facility it was a 5 star review. Now idk what has happened but Covid19 has truly tanked the healthcare system. This Hospital employees Dr's that perform procedures Against the Consent of the Medical POA. To the future graveous consequences of the patient just so it would improve the hospitals chance to place my mother into a very low quality I'll equip facility to care for my mom in all of her life threatening conditions. They have demonstrated total disregard with cooperation with my attorney and its completely unprofessional and bottom line this all could have been avoided with one phone call from that Dr to me that I had requested for days n was ignored..... this facility does not Respect a pt's right nore do they abide by the legality of the Medical POA..... read more

In order to leave this review I was forced to give a 1 star rating. They actually deserve less than nothing. This place is an utter disgrace. Please heed my warning when I tell you to please find an alternative for your loved one. From upper management (especially) to clinicians, regular staff, and administration, they were ALL beyond disappointing and disgusting. My father, a 72 year old Decorated Vietnam Veteran, came to Select Care as a recommendation for rehabilitation from another facility. They were suggested as a place that could promote and provide quicker healing so he could return home. Instead of passion, care, concern, and actual rehabilitation medical care, he was restrained, overly sedated day and night, and treated very poorly. I lost my father 2 months ago now and I know for certain that they perpetuated his death and stole time he had left on this earth. For 18 days he stayed in this facility they did absolutely nothing for him but bill the VA and his insurance provider. In 18 days in a facility who claimed to be working on getting him up and moving they spent less than 3 hours in collective total on his physical therapy. The only reason he remained there for all 18 days was because upon our several requests for his release we were warned against doing so by the administration. They cited that taking him AMA could result in the insurance company not paying for his stay that was already brinking on 100k. We were trapped and afraid. I requested all 537 pages of his medical records that I reviewed myself page by page and found multiple discrepancies and downright lies in the notes. I am now preparing to retain an attorney to address this matter further as none of my attempts in speaking with upper management were met with proper action or attention. Be warned, do not make the mistake I did and place a single ounce of trust in this institution. They will steal time from your loved one you cannot get back and money from your pocket or your insurance company that will line their pockets and not go towards any type of quality care. read more

Worst place!!! I wish there's an option to select -1000 stars! But that's okay, I'll give the star to respiratory therapy as they did a fantastic job in that department. BUT! Read well before you think of taking your loved ones there. My grandma had cardiac arrest 2 months ago. She stayed in Henry Ford Macomb for a month, then was transferred to Select Specialty "HOSPITAL" when she was stabilized. There, they did a wonderful job at training her to breath on her own again and were able to get her off the ventilator, BUT ignored everything else!! We used to go visit her every single day, and call the nurses to ask about her 10 times a day, and their response ALWAYS was: "she's doing great, blood work is good." She stayed there for a month until it was time to move her to a rehab center to get physical therapy. She was transferred to Oakland Manor. The next morning, she became irresponsive. They did blood work, turned out she has ALL SORTS OF INFECTIONS! Pneumonia, UTI, you name it! And Select Specialty Hospital never mentioned it, and thus never attempted to treat it. What's even worse, is that she was found to be totally dehydrated! Which caused her a kidney injury. Her carotid artery has 90% stenosis, which we were never told about. We thank GOD that she transferred to Oakland Manor where they actually cared to look into her health! If her infections were ignored for just 2 more days, no antibiotic would have helped. We would have lost her, God forbid! Please be veryyy careful with this place! I give credit to the respiratory therapy department, but -10000 starts to the rest! And hope nobody will ever have to go through what we went through because of negligence. read more

My grandfather who is a stroke patient was recently transferred from Henry Ford hospital to Select Specialty Hospital located in Mt Clemens for rehabilitation. This by far is the WORST place to take your loved one and I am currently working on transitioning him out of this facility ASAP before something terrible happens. The nurses and nurse assistants are rude and careless. As a previous reviewer stated, when the call button is pressed to call for help, nobody answers. I've had to physically leave the room after waiting for 20 minutes to get a nurse to help my grandpa who was falling off the bed due to the carelessness of these nurses and nurse assistants. When I saw a woman in the hallway who happened to be the nurse that day for my grandpa, I asked her if she could track down the nurse for him (not knowing she was his nurse) and she rudely replied "I am the nurse what do you want?" Her demeanor was rude and disgusting and she was very hostile. I advised her that he needed to be repositioned as he was falling off the bed and looked so uncomfortable. She then came into the room and said she doesn't know where anyone is to assist her and advised I'd have to help her move him, which I did. At this point I'm very worried about his health and well being, seeing that nobody here is taking proper care of him or checking on him. I have also noticed ever since he has been transferred here his health appears to be declining. He's less responsive, lost color in his face and is noticeably stressed. When he was at Henry Ford he was responding, smiling, and able to get some words out to speak. I truly believe he is being neglected and treated poorly by these nurses and nurse assistants and I will be moving him out of this facility ASAP. If anything worse happens in the mean time I will be sure to update this review and take legal action against this facility. read more

I cannot say enough about the quality of care that I have received during my 12 1/2 week stay at Select Specialty Hospital-Macomb. The staff starting at the nursing assistants all thw way to the CEO have been caring, helpful and concerned about my well being. I have to give a shout out to a special group that I have become attached to, the staff in the physical therapy department. They have been very instrumental in my ability to walk. I would like to say thank you all that provided the care that has allowed me to regain my life. read more

I have been a patient at select specialty hospital for several months. I came to them after having been in septic shock and in a ventilator twice. I could barely move needing two people to help me even sit up. I am now scheduled to go home tomorrow and am walking with a cane. The hospital has been recently renovated and has a beautiful lobby with a fireplace, family waiting rooms through out, and all private rooms. The rooms have wall mounted large televisions and are kept nice and clean on a daily basis.the best part of Select Mt Clemens is the staff. The wound care team is outstanding, dealing with my issues in a knowledgeable, confident way. The physical therapy team knee just when to push me and when to let me rest. The two together made me feel safe during some of the scariest days of my life. The case manager was a wonderful advocate dealing with insurance issues and other details on my behalf. And finally the nurses and aids were caring and attentive in fact after all this time have become my friends and I will miss them. Don't misunderstand, this place is not perfect, but compared to other facilities of this type Mt. Clemens Select Specialty Hospital stands out. read more

My father was transferred and admitted to Select Specialty in 2014 after being on life support suffering from severe sepsis for 35 days and being told by Doctors from Beaumont to "Stop being selfish and let this 68 year old man go. He will have NO quality of life." I have to admit when I approached the hospital I fell to tears thinking most likely he would be spending his last days here. To my surprise it was one of the best decisions ever made. After spending 32 days at Select, with pristine care Coleen the Respiratory Therapist along with the rest of the RT's, were able to wean my father off the ventilator using optiflow therapy. This team of Nurses, Doctors & RT's are truly amazing people. I swear if it weren't for them my father would not be here today, with a GREAT quality of life. Thank you Select! read more
