Select Health changed their Medicare OTC benefits to Nation Benefit in 2023 and it's a disaster. They first required a card that was never sent, then they changed the website to say the card was not required for on line purchases, but the site would not allow you to purchase anything without activating the card you had never received and that the website told you you didn't need to activate. The only way to contact them is through their phone number that leaves you on hold forever. Terrible. read more

Worst insurance I've ever had. They don't pay for anything. My plan is supposed to cover preventative medicine 100% and I continue to get bills for routine labs associated with annual check ups. If periodically monitoring electrolytes, kidney/liver function, and cholesterol is not preventative medicine I don't know what is. Their customer service, while pleasant, is extremely unhelpful and did nothing to remedy this problem. They basically told me it was my responsibility to navigate the complexities of medical coding. On top of that it is nearly always a 30 minute wait to even talk to a representative. I feel like I would be better off having no insurance since I am paying for everything out of pocket anyway and could avoid the headache of dealing with this company. Terrible. read more

And for that, they and the state that sponsors them should all be put in an oven. Of I could give zero starts I would. This company is super crappy. Nothing is covered, you pay a monthly fee to be insured just to be insured. Anything happens to you, doctors visits or meds are all out of pocket pay. The people that work there also don't give to sh!ts about you or your issues. They just want to get paid. Before I signed up with them I asked specific questions if a procedure was covered and they said 100% yes. Well... that was a BIG FAT LIE!!! Upon arriving the staff was pleasant, kind and I could tell they liked servicing my needs. I'am making follow up appointments because I lost almost 2 inches on my first visit. Wow. I have been a member of select health for many years. I am also diabetic. I was trying to get a continuous glucose monitor. It will help prolong my life and will also make my day to day life much easier. It will help me feel better and will help me not possibly die as easily from hypoglycemia....but it will save them money to deny my claim. Did you know that when they deny your claim they don't even have a doctor look at your charts the first time. It's just number pushers, looking at the bottom line making you check off boxes, jump through hoops. It's someone's job to deny claims sent to insurance by their own doctor. On May 19, I called to request information about mental health coverage. I was routed through five (5) different representatives, none of whom seemed to know what on Earth they were doing or how to guide me. I also attempted to find a doctor -- at SelectHealth's instruction -- via a website called intermountainconnectcare.org. The website completely malfunctioned, and never did anything visible except send me back to the original homepage where I had already wasted my time on the button that says something like "get started" or "find a provider". On May 25, when I attempted to confirm the time of my appointment, I logged in, and could find zero evidence of the appointment. I called numerous people at IHC (not Select Health) and they informed me that SelectHealth had given me completely inaccurate information, that I do not have coverage for mental health and that their system shows absolutely zero record of an appointment. Dealing with SelectHealth and IHC is a NIGHTMARE. Neither organization seems to be able to locate correct information. If you weren't stressed out before dealing with them, you will be afterwards. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE! Their customer service is terrible! I didn't wait on hold, but when I got someone they said I wasn't covered for a claim that they had paid out on! I was simply inquiring about the amount they paid. I had to get the doctor's office and SelectHealth on the line to clear it up. It was an hour of wasted time! SelectHealth is a Horrible, horrible, horrible insurance company!!! I have never written a review for insurance before but my experience with these folks has been exasperating beyond belief. I am in general a healthy adult, but these folks have done everything from deny basic medications prescribed by my doctors to having self-serving mistakes in billing that have caused literally over 12 hours of phone calls to resolve. Even now, 8 months after a visit, I suddenly get a bill from a provider because the original amount ($51) they paid to the provider was for some unknown reason--without any notice or explanation--withdrawn. I paid these jackoffs $900/month for over a year before I finally switched to another insurance and every single time I went to an approved doctor there has been a mistake or a denial of claim, or worse. I asked my doctor about the various health insurance companies in the Marketplace and they confirmed that it is the worst in Utah to work with, both from their experience as a provider as well as numerous complaints from patients. We added our child to our medical insurance plan, (they tried to add her to our dental plan and we had to explain to them that she was a NEWBORN baby and DIDN'T HAVE TEETH) when our bill came and was DOUBLE what we were supposed to pay, they gave us the run-around for a month until they finally just dropped us instead of helping to resolve our issue. They have refused to work with us and now we are having to pay IN FULL for our baby who should have been covered under them. DO NOT GET YOUR INSURANCE THROUGH THIS COMPANY. If possible I would give 0 stars. Probably the worst service I have ever had. Their employees are not well trained and they do not have enough on staff. After spending countless hours trying to get a bill resolved they ended up cancelling my services completely. Keep in mind I was trying to pay my bill. I just wanted to pay the amount I was quoted. By them cancelling my services I was then stuck with medical bills in the thousands as they terminated my policy (after a life changing event that they had record of) for before that event. I informed SelectHealth that the person has not lived here for over a year now! They continue to ignore my complaints and have not responded to ANY online inquiries whatsoever. I had had good experiences with Select Health for many years. In 2018, I got cancer and wanted to go to the Huntsman Cancer Center. I called and the representative said I wouldn't be covered elsewhere at the U, but expenses at the Huntsman would be covered. So thankful to have gone to Huntsman. I had a great experience and felt the care was better than I received elsewhere. (I tried another hospital first.) If you have cancer, go there, quickly. When the bills started coming, there were a few surprises. The statements were months late, so I couldn't remember the service or the date. Thankfully I keep a journal and a calendar. They didn't want to cover a blood draw lab at Huntsman, because the bill said "University if Utah" on it. It was in the Huntsman Center, the lab was there, but the bill said U of U. However, a very kind lady at Select Health helped me find an appeal form and get it in. They did accept the appeal. I had to do this several more times, which was difficult while dealing with cancer. However, the phone service reps are exceptional. So unusual to find well-trained customer service reps nowadays. I even received thoughtful notes from several of them, with their direct phone number so I could get straight through to them the next time there was a need. I did that a few times. It felt like a friend was helping me. I'm so grateful to be able to speak to a person, even on Saturdays!! Because of my mom's Alzheimer's and my own health concerns, Select Health provided someone to check in with us and make sure things were going okay. We didn't need financial help, but they were willing to help with that. I can't express how much Zane Swim and Patricia Godwin helped us. So very thankful for them. Select Health also has a lot of wellness programs, if you have the time to take advantage of them. I was able to do their weight loss program for free because of my BMI. Because of that program, I no longer qualify for it!! Yay! I have checked the reviews for other insurance companies in this area, and Select Health outshines them all. Like any company, they have their moments, but their intent is good. BBB gives them an A+ rating, while another local insurance company I considered gets a D+. BBB has served me well, and my own experience tells me to stay with the company who cares, Select Health! Thanks to their leaders, who foster such an atmosphere of caring. read more

Select Health misrepresents itself to anyone living in Nevada. You have to jump through hoops to see a Dr. who is covered if you live in St. George but because you live in Nevada you have to get prior approval from the insurance company to see the same Doctor. My husband fell off a roof . NOW because he had a Dr. recommend he see his kidney Dr. for his feet swelling which he did but the Dr. didn't send in the notes to the kidney Dr. who is not covered because we live in Nevada we are faced with paying the bill which I do not mind because this is a health issue. We are not the only ones. We have been told this is how this insurance treats everyone who lives in Nevada. Select Health just isn't upfront and they don't tell people in Nevada they treat you like this when you sign up. It is mis representation to the fullest. I will have to change my insurance in October but I will look to sign up with someone else. read more

Email them the proper paperwork, and it disappears! So I have to call again, and rinse and repeat. Either their call center staff is extremely lazy, or they just dont want to file my claim! I have been with select health for several years and it was natural for me to obtain Medicare through select health advantage. Now I am much wiser. My number one complaint is that the advantage program is a "replacement type insurance". What that means is that if you have insurance through your employer, you just shot yourself in the foot. The commercial insurance, usually high deductible, becomes not only your primary provider, but your only provider . This means if you have a medical copay or deductible of thousands of dollars, select health advantage does nothing for you to mitigate those out of pocket expenses, you are fully responsible. Select health will not participate in any medical hospital or prescription services until you drop the commercial insurance completely and select health now becomes your single primary insurance provider. And by the way, you must continue paying the $140 or more per month even though you can't use them. read more

A family member of mine was in the hospital and was released too early, if anything the level of care should have been increased. When we asked why, the doctor told us that they are not allowed to practice medicine they way they should, and that a member of the select health team was calling the hospital every single hour to get an update on my sister. I'm floored to hear an insurance company would need hourly updates, when the hospital staff is not able to give the patient or family updates more then once a day. it's actually very creepy and disturbing to think a Select Health Employee with a GED or HS Diploma, making less than $14.00 an hour in a call center, can call and bully medical staff. Doctors, nurses and CNA's are busy taking care of very sick patients, and should not be distracted with hourly calls from an insurance company. So many things wrong with this situation, I have a big responsibility of ensuring people hear and talk about this. read more

I have had health problems with my kidney for the last four years. I have been to numerous doctors, had numerous tests, had been hospitalized and on home health. I finally found a doctor that has figured out what is going on and has a solution. I am needing a surgery but unfortunately select health has denied the surgery and I cannot get the help that I desperately need. I am currently in the appeals process but when the tough questions come up select health tells me to just go and find another insurance that will cover the procedure. That is an unfair statement because I pay my premiums every month and I should be covered so that I can improve my health. Select health has approved this procedure for other patients but for some reason they will not approve me. Shame on select health for making me still suffer when there is a cure that can be given to me. read more

Some years ago, we lost our youngest son in a car accident. We were still reeling from the loss when we got a letter from Select Health. They said that one of their employees was caught reading our son's clinical records just for fun. His accident had been reported in the news so it was sensationalized. I called the number in the letter and got a woman who was absolutely no help. She said the employee would be disciplined, but, as I asked her questions, it became evident that her only purpose was to cover SH's butt. She seemed nervous and reluctant to talk to me and only offered yes/no answers to my questions. In short, SHE TREATED ME AS IF I HAD DONE SOMETHING WRONG! There was no hint of an apology or taking responsibility. They kicked us in the teeth when we were down, making the worst disaster of our lives even more unbearable. To this day I'm forced each year to go with SH because it is what my employer offers. I can't tell you how it galls me to continue to have to do business with rotten people like this. These terrible people made the worst tragedy of our lives even worse!!! Their lack of professionalism and caring still hurts me to this day!!! read more

I am 46 years old and have experienced many different health care providers. I rank Select Health as low as possible. I am a very healthy and active person, non smoker. I only go to the doc when I need to. December 30th 2018, I tore my ACL skiing the bumps and had to have surgery. My recovery has been slow and I have used all my 20 allotted PT appts. But that is not enough for me. My knee is still very stiff and I am unable to get bend past 110 degrees on my own, with effort. This happens with people sometimes. I am doing all I can. I disputed this and turned in an official appeal with notes from my Surgeon and from my PT team. I waited the full 30 days because they refused to expedite. My surgeon specifically stated that if I am not at 120 on my own by the end of this month, that I will need manipulation, which will be an extra surgical cost, pain to me, and then I will need PT every day afterwards. I just got my denial letter today which stated, "Although we understand your request, and additional physical therapy may be medically beneficial, your appeal has been denied because the plan has a specific visit limit allowed per year". It's not just our plan, it's the entire Select Health organization's limit. Their customer reps have tried to tell me that it's our company that selected the limiting plan, but that was a false statement. Select Health has limits on PT and other therapy, 20 being the max. They've since realized as a company that putting limits on therapy is stupid (duh), and have already decided to change this allotment to unlimited as needed on July 1 of 2019. So why make a stink about this now if you know it needs to be changed and will be so in two months? Obviously Select Health cares more about their bottom line and less about their patient's well being. I don't care for Select Health at all. Just so you all know, they don't cover testing for dyslexia either. I went thru that too. That testing costs over $1000 with a psychiatrist. The best thing we as patients can do is let our company's representatives know what we are going thru, so they can make different decisions about health care in the future. read more

The absolute worst out there. I was diagnosed with Breast cancer. They have tried to deny every procedure and test so far. I just got a denial letter to balance my non mastectomy side with already done mastectomy side. My doctor told me they would and have to cover it. I was also denied having a Bilateral Mastectomy. Only SELECT HEALTH fights on this. It is my doctors and surgeons opinion, that I should have this done. Fight After fight. I'm a week into recovering from the single mastectomy, and they do nothing but cause me more duress, than what I am already experiencing. The WHCRA is a law stating they have to make the breasts look balanced. I have to now stress about this until I get more answers on Monday. Their written denial is clear to me though. They just won't get away with this, even though they try. They even tired to deny my test on my tumor, which is completely ridiculous! This is the test absolutely necessary to determine if the tumor is aggressive or not. They base treatment on this. My doctor said select Heath fights everything. The worst company they deal with. Way to go Select Heath. Your commercials about your care program is a Joke. Complete fabrication of the truth. When I have tried to talk to Select Heath on the phone, They are incompetent to answer questions. They sound young and probably make minimum wage. Always say that the people I need to talk to are out and to call back later. The "care managers" don't want to discuss the denial or appeal process. Buyer beware. read more

I love having a local company to deal with instead of getting the run around from larger companies that have call centers outside of the US.
