Dr Ott I want to publicly thank Dr. Ott at Selma Medical Center for the exceptional care and advocacy she recently provided me during a very serious medical situation. I have suffered from blood clots in my legs and lungs for more than 10 years. A few weeks ago, I went to the ER and was diagnosed again with blood clots and placed on blood thinners. During my follow-up appointment, Dr. Ott became very concerned about my condition and instructed me to return to Winchester Medical Center to be admitted for surgical treatment. Unfortunately, after spending nearly five hours in the ER, I was seen briefly by the ER physician, who never examined my leg and discharged me home. Dr. Ott did not accept that outcome. She spent hours personally investigating what had happened, reviewing records, identifying multiple errors in the ER doctor's report, and tirelessly advocating on my behalf until I was finally admitted to the hospital for the surgery I needed. What impressed me most was that she did all of this while continuing to manage a full day of patients. I later learned that the delays this caused in her schedule led to complaints from others, yet she never stopped fighting for my care and safety. Dr. Ott's compassion, professionalism, persistence, and willingness to advocate for her patient may very well have saved me from a much more serious outcome. In today's healthcare world, physicians like her are rare and deserve to be recognized. I will never forget the kindness and dedication she showed me. Thank you, Dr. Ott. read more

Overall they are not bad except for their billing department. They will not respond using the Selma Assoc. portal. They told me through the physicians assistant that Tricare for Life paid for shingles shots and then billed me for $162.00. When I confronted them they said "sorry" but you still have to pay. I paid them immediately over the phone with my credit card. Today they sent me another bill. I have sent an email to their executive director Michael Borton who is hard to find info on. Depending on his response if negative I will report to Virginia BBB and the Virginia AG. Thier billing department is inept and if they tell you something you should get it in writing. I definitely will next time. The doctor I see is great and has done an excellent job for ten years but I would not trust any other. IMHO. read more

I have been going to Selma now for 10 years and today, my experience there brought me to give this review. Today, 10/21/25, was the 2nd visit I have had with my recently chosen internal medicine physician, Dr. Sharon Peake and her clinical assistant, Trinity Davis. I could not be more pleased to have these professional, compassionate and caring people taking care of me and my multiple medical problems! I have great confidence in both. I look forward to a long and lasting relationship with these professionals; they both go "the extra mile" in taking their time with me and explaning and answering questions in a patient manner. read more

I had gone to Dr Birth for a Primary Dr, for several yrs. I do like him. I had decided to give Selma another chance, with a different Dr. I had gone to Selma a couple yrs earlier, looking for a primary Dr, but the Dr who I saw was very dismissive about the issue that brought me there. Once she noticed my BP was a lil high she only cared about , didn't even address what I came there for, said I should expect things since I was just getting old....never ck'd me or ran any tests, except for my heart...which was totally fine ! I was happy with Dr Birth, very nice Dr. After couple yrs I started having a couple issues, so was sent for many tests, Biopsy, other specialists Drs for tests, and thankfully I was ok. A month before my yearly ck up I started getting messages reminding my of my ck up. I had one through so many tests and to so many Dr and hospital appointments that year, so I just wasn't quite ready to go back, yet. I joked with my family that they seemed pretty anxious for me to make an appointment and will admit I didn't right away because they were sending me sooo many messages. Finally I received 2 letters in mail plus a certified letter, in about 2 days, and they told me I couldn't come back !! I couldn't use any of their offices, Dr's, walk in's..nothing ! I was shocked ! It was only a couple wks past my 1 year appointment. ! My family, friends, acquaintances, daughters co -workers..everyone cannot believe they did this ! Very sad !!!! I've been a patient at Selma for over five years and have noticed a decline in their service, but after my last visit, I will not be returning. A few days ago, I scheduled a follow-up appointment with Dr. Gongloff regarding bloodwork I had done at a separate lab--something I was required to do because my insurance no longer covers testing at Selma. This is also a new change as I've had bloodwork done at Selma before. I was specifically told that once my results were in, Dr. Gongloff would follow up with me, but a week after my results came in, I received no phone call from her or Selma, so I called to schedule a follow-up appointment myself. On the day of my visit, I arrived 5 minutes late--within Selma's supposed 15-minute grace period. The receptionist was dismissive, questioning whether I would still be seen. She said, "Ok well let me see if Dr. Gongloff can still see you." After a five minute wait, a nurse I had never met before confronted me, rudely insisting that it was my responsibility to retrieve my results from the lab and provide them to Selma. This had not been the way they've done things before, and it was certainly not communicated to me. When I pointed this out, she continued lecturing me in a condescending tone. The receptionist suggested calling the lab, but the nurse dismissed the idea, saying it would take too long. Instead of offering a solution or allowing me to wait, they rescheduled me for two weeks later--despite the fact that my results were concerning and I had already waited five weeks for the follow-up appointment. The lack of communication, professionalism, and patient consideration was unacceptable. I was denied care, blamed for something I was never told, and excluded from decisions about my own health. My husband and I were in for an appointment last week on the 2nd floor at Selma Associates, and we were quite disappointed to learn that Melissa Smith is no longer with your practice. While we are unsure the circumstances surrounding her departure, we want to express that we believe it's a great loss for your team. We moved here 2 years ago. In the beginning we felt confident in the practice. My husbands Dr transferred and we were given to Dr. Birth as his patient. We have seen him twice, as of yet we don' feel very confident in him. He comes in and really does not seem that interested in my husband's case. We have found another Dr.for us to see. read more

The message system is so annoying with all the redirects the person who recorded the message has a slow lazy draw making the listener wanting to hang up. When you finally get redirected, no one ever answers the phone, I mean, never. Another short coming in their communications system is the "Walk in Clinic", yes, the walk-in is no longer a walk-in, you have to have an appointment which is practically impossible to make since there isn't a phone number for the clinic. Very unhelpful, too quick to say "that's just the way it is" when asking for help in identifying a medical issue, unwilling to order higher level blood tests when the bare minimum blood tests come back with results in the normal range even though you are demonstrating symptoms of an issue that needs further investigation so that you can begin to feel better. read more

Care has been good when able to see a doctor, but it's usually hard getting anybody to answer the phone to book an appointment (no matter what time of day, and when a message is left, good luck getting a call back in a timely manner or at all. Normally it goes straight to VM, but sometimes you are placed in a queue, and end up waiting while the system tells you your place in line, only to end up getting VM and not a live person, which would be nice. I have tried calling the multiple numbers they have and it's always the same, for family or internal medicine. Sure, Winchester has a shortage of doctors it seems, and I'm sure they're busy but more staff might be needed. It's a shame because when we're really sick, we have had to go to Urgent Cares which charges insurance a whole lot more. read more

I have known Dr peake for a long time. She has taken kind of many family members. She's very kind, very caring, and she takes the time to listen to what you have to say. She explains things thoroughly and makes sure you know what's going on before you leave the office. Her nurse Traci is also a very nice person. She would get an A for giving shots. And I dont like shots. I'm very luck yo have a physician and a nurse who is genuinely concerned. read more

I do like my primary dr. Eirich. But forget ever getting through to talk to someone. This has happened to me on several occasions. No one plans to be sick but they would like to know their dr. Just wanted to add to what others have said - The doctors and practice are great. You can get all your care in once place and the walk-in is convenient but the admin is a pain in the butt. If you know of appointments you or your significant other will need, go ahead and schedule them while checking out at the office...or stop by and make them in person, otherwise expect to leave more than one voicemail before someone will call you back, and don't expect them to call you back before a few days. Dr. Hawari is amazing, I love him. I had a spot on my leg removed that required stitches, two days after getting the stitches I pulled off my leggings and I guess a stitch was caught in the cotton and it pulled all of the stitches out and the wound popped open (It was a pretty big, deep wound) I had never had stitches before so I had a complete meltdown - I immediately called Selma and left a voicemail telling them what had happened and that it was urgent. Nobody called me back. I ended up just driving to the office about an hour after it happened after not hearing back and luckily they were able to see me right away and get my stitches put back in. It would be nice if they would redo their phone system, or at least have someone there regularly checking voicemails.... Otherwise it's a great doctors office. read more

I called for a new patient's appointment in November 2022. They said they couldn't get me in until March. Just prior to my appointment they called and said they had to reschedule the appointment....to July! Then I received a letter in the mail in June saying they had to again reschedule my July appointment to....November! So, it's taking exactly one year to be seen as new patient, and who can even guarantee that they won't reschedule it again. And when I call the office to complain they have absolutely no sympathy, and seem to just want to get off the phone with me as quickly as possible. The epitome of terrible customer service. I recently visited the 2nd floor walk in clinic due to severe pain in my chest where I was greeted by a compassionate nurse who actually cared, to then be put in front of who seemed to be more annoyed that I was there than concerned about my health. I'm assuming it was probably time for her to get off work that's why she was so rude and non-caring. She did absolutely nothing but make me feel like I was keeping her late. The nurse that saw me was amazing took great care of me but the woman behind the glass, I suggest find a different field to work in because healthcare and giving and caring about patients is definitely not what she was trained for. Maybe she's new and she doesn't know any better but she absolutely was the rudest most uncaring, unwilling person that I've dealt with in a while. When I return for a follow up , it was only after leaving multiple messages for days and not getting a return call the same woman was behind the glass she proceeded to tell me that I needed to go out to my vehicle and call in and then be seen which I did. On hold for 20 minutes finally left a message got a callback to come inside to be told by the rude person behind the plexiglass that the doctors had gone for the day and I would have to come back tomorrow . I don't think in all my years I've ever been treated so poorly I think I'm going to go back to my old doctor. Let me say that the doctors and nurses are wonderful but you need to really get a new staff so disorganized and uncaring it's no wonder your ratings are so poor. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy and that says a lot for a person like me. It took a total of six days and that is counting the weekend before I could get the medicine that was prescribed. This place is sad and definitely needs management. I have been a patient of Selma for several years. I've always hated their phone system. There is no way to contact them directly for any reason. I had a follow up appointment with a PA several weeks ago & was 11 minutes late, due to an accident that had shut down Piccadilly Street. After sitting at a dead stop for 20 minutes, traffic was rerouted around so I had to make a detour through town to get there. I was frantic trying to get there, as I am having some significant issues after being treated for bladder cancer. I tried to call, but there is no way to let the front desk know you are running late, since there is no way to reach a live person. When I arrived, i explained the situation & the receptionist (who I detest) rang the back office to see if they would take me. While they were on the phone with a Dr Watson(?) they were tittering at the doctor's comments, which I would assume were about people like me, who have the audacity to show up late. Never mind that I sat waiting for 40 minutes the last time I had an appointment. I was then told that only 30 minutes had been allotted for my appointment & that they could not see me. I could reschedule for the next morning at 8:30. I declined. I live in Charles Town, so it was an hour long round trip for nothing. I've always liked the doctors there, but my impression is, that like most businesses, they are having a hard time finding dedicated competent workers for other positions. The PA who saw me a couple of months ago was having a hard time managing her stethoscope & the blood pressure cuff. I don't mean to knock her, at least she was pleasant & trying. First time visiting the center. Once there the front receptionist, an elderly woman, was the rudest person I have come across during my time at Winchester this past year. It is due to her disregard and disrespect towards me that I chose not to follow through with my visit. I already have a mother and I already work with enough cranky people. As a first time visitor to be treated with disdain was uncalled for. This lady should be fired at the very least. At most she should be banned from ever working anywhere where she could cause the clinic future patients. If you have self respect, do not visit this place until they get rid of her. read more

The doctors at Selma Medical are good. However, getting to see them is the hard part. The front desk staff is terrible. I had an appointment today that was scheduled over a month ago. I have an appointment card for it and have it listed on my portal as well. I come to the appointment 15 minutes early just for them to tell me "I didn't have an appointment." I had proof that I had this appointment and the front desk lady couldn't care any less and said I don't know what to tell you and rescheduled me out a few weeks, which is a major inconvenience to my timeline for having this appointment. The front desk lady showed no sympathy and are so hard to reach. You can call them 10 times and you will get a voicemail every time and they may not even get back to you. If you want good customer service I recommend going to a different practice. read more

After 10+ years I am truly fed up with this practice. My mother is 76 years old with a long list of breathing issues, after them leaving her waiting on a video appointment while they ran over an hour late with no regard for her I had to reschedule only to now be told, her doctor will no longer do video appointment, she is unable to wear a mask more than a few minutes at a time and knowing this they insist she must come in for an appointment and wear a mask. We have put up with the front desk rudeness and we're tolerating it because we at least were content with the care she received when we finally got past the horrible call back waits but this is just beyond. read more

They require a visit to refill medication that should be automatically refilled, which I've never had a problem getting refilled, just so they can charge for a visit. That tells me they're more interested in getting money than a patient's well-being from going off medication. I'd rather just go an urgent care than deal with a place like that. read more

When my mother first stared going there we really liked the doctor, but after your RX runs out and you need a refill - good luck - just try to get thru when you need medication and see how far you get. Sit on hold for hours, finally get thru they say they will call it in but IT NEVER HAPPENS. Call the pharmacy and they will tell Selma is the worst when it comes to refills - oh boy. I am totally out of my medication, I have been trying for three days to get a refill. They are just awful - the picture of incompetence. read more

I have been going here for 4 years now and the worst thing about Selma Associates is the phone system. They need to hire someone to pick up and direct the calls. Last year my husband started to go to Selma because I was using their services and he felt he got the run around. As far as the medical care goes, I have been to better establishments. A few months ago I told my doctor I was having cramps and bleeding. She did nothing but stare at me. A week later I was back in Alexandria and got an appointment with my previous IM doctor. All I had to say was 'blood' and she ordered a sonogram that revealed a polyp that needed to be removed. Unfortunately, this experience means I will be looking for another practice. read more

This medical office has gone downhill. Tried to go to the open door clinic. No one knows whats happening. Was told it is now a respiratory clinic. Was told Go to the registration desk to schedule an appointment. Registration desk tells me come back at 8am when the open door clinic opens to schedule an appointment. Horrible call in service for clients to actually speak to someone. What business makes their patients leave a message for a call back for scheduling, billing, or other topics? This business puts the patient last. If you call them, you WIL NOT speak with an employee, nurse, or secretary. The average back back ranges from 3-5 days. read more

This practice could have cost my 83 year old grandmother her life for their negligence. She visited them for stomach issues and had blood work done. They never got in contact with her about the results of her bloodwork. She continued to feel ill and went to another urgent care a week later. They ran her bloodwork and sent her immediately to the ER. She had chronic appendicitis. She stayed in the hospital 3 days to receive IV antibiotics. She could have become septic and died. Obviously Selma knew she was very ill because when she got her prescriptions from the pharmacy they had called in an antibiotic a week ago! I'm encouraging her to file a complaint with the state medical board. read more

Poorly managed patient mill designed for maximum provider profit. Should have known when I received the new patient package with an address label that appeared to have been typed by someone's very young child and unprofessional forms which looked like they had been repeatedly copied since the 1980s. 50 or 60 providers flash by on an electronic directory when entering the building. Waiting room packed. Suggest purchase of McDonald's style kiosks to replace front desk staff, as they would be more friendly, helpful and cost effective. Will happily refer people I don't like to this practice. read more

My husband & I recently moved to this area & needed to find new physicians. We have a couple of different ailments & were pleasantly surprised to find everything we needed under one roof. Dr's Gibbs and Peake in Internal Medicine keep track of what's happening with our outside specialists, including treatment at the V.A. (Vet's Admin.). They take time to go over test results, make sure medications are adequate & not being duplicated, and gently ask about new complaints, aches, pains, etc. They are thorough, informed about new products & procedures, make referrals as needed, & treat us like people, rather than numbers. Calls to the Nurse Line are returned promptly. The staff at Selma are caring, efficient, dedicated & are able to perform most tests in-house. The Walk In Clinic is a Godsend for emergency visits, flu shots, etc. Plus Selma houses many specialties under one roof! We can't recommend this practice highly enough. read more

Receptionist are poorly trained with negative attitudes, facility is old and outdated(usually under construction, no idea what they are fixing), and the doctors are the most sterile thing there. only suggestion would be tear it down and start over. read more

I have been going to Selma for 20 years. Great care, great nurses. Excellent Lab, kind a gentle. Dr. Gibbs is my doctor and there is no one better. They have great PA's. The billing gets a bit messed up is the only flaw, I have experienced. Great practice. read more
