Even though I lived in Midland for about a year and half a few years ago, I never visited the main…read moreMidland Library branch here. Luckily, I was able to on a work trip since it was a very short walk there from my hotel. On the outside, it looks very large with beautiful decorations and paintings all around the building. When you walk in, it's a bit underwhelming. It feels like a stale business office. The book selection is actually pretty decent although I was disappointed in their oil and gas book selection given that Midland/Odessa is THE oil town of America. I would say the highlights of this library is that they have 2 gaming stations with games for PlayStation, Wii, Switch, and Xbox, and they have plenty of computers. I would recommend this library for residents of Midland but people visiting will probably find it underwhelming with its offerings.

The girl who got us our library cards was very helpful. There was another woman from the kids section that was very polite and kind. Now, the reason for the lower score is the hours. They close at 6 on Monday through Friday. They are closed on Sundays. Signs say they will close on Saturdays starting in September. I take my son to the library and that will be hard to do once school starts with these bad hours.

I came here for the first time this past weekend to finally sign up for my library card. I'm…read moreimpressed, even surprised, by the quality of this library for it being in Lubbock. Also, this location was my only choice because it's the only branch open Sundays. The collection is entirely on the main floor. When you come in, fiction is mostly to the left and through the center, children's in the back left corner, non-fiction center back, and a huge section for genealogy research in the back right corner. In the front right side and corner is a computer area open to all visitors - it seems like a first come first served situation. There's also an armed police officer who seems to be always on duty here at a desk near the front. It's actually my first time seeing this in a library, and I come from a much larger city. Staff was helpful in getting me signed up. Probably the greatest benefit is in being able to join the Libby app for ebooks and audiobooks. But nothing will beat the brick and mortar library for things like graphic novels and a nice focused place to study.

Lubbock's central library, Mahon, is near the Civic Center in downtown Lubbock. Plenty of…read morecomputers, always a cool place to hang on a hot summer day, and a small, but decent supply of fiction and non-fiction books. For a growing city, I think they should be expanding their stock of books, but you can generally find a book or two on your topic of interest.
