I moved from CA approx 3 years ago and immediately tried Semion after a friend recommended this shop. I've had a few different barbers here, and they've all been talented and friendly, but this review is specifically for Jolissa who has been cutting my hair for the last year. Jolissa is AWESOME. So good in fact, that I'll soon be moving 20-30 minutes away from the city and there was never a thought in my mind about finding a new barber shop...I'll happily make the trip to see her every two weeks. I've gone a bit shorter and shorter with my hair on the sides recently, she gave me my first "mid fade", and I love it. In my previous experience with other barber shops, I feel like I'd always end up with a very 'military' type look when trying to take the sides in closer, but that's not the case with Jolissa's cuts at all. Beyond the haircuts, she's a really cool girl who is genuine and easy to talk to. I can't say enough good things about her and the Semion business. read more

Semion at Stanley is where I send my husband and son for their haircuts. Online booking is a breeze, and I can get them back-to-back appointments as long as I book a few days out. They have different stylists every time, but both tend to be fairly happy with their cuts. Price in relation to quality seems fair. Would recommend. read more

Had the most interesting contact from Semion's Barbershop after their manager evidently passed on my recent review to the owner. Got a call from Semion himself saying that he'd heard about my review and was very concerned and wanted to know what happened so he could address it personally. Now I have mixed feelings when someone contacts me in-person based on a review I've posted. Usually you'd expect a response through an owner comment or message to your Yelp account, and so normally I would feel a bit intruded upon to literally get a phone call from a business owner about a critical review. I say "normally" I'd feel that way but I've gotta tell you, from the second I answered the call it was clear that Semion is a committed, professional, hard-working (and really nice) owner who wants to do right by his customers and in his business practices. So we talked about my experience and he simply said that he would like to make it right and invited me in for the haircut I never got when I showed up for my appointment. The bottom line was that I had the most interesting talk with him about how he was developing some business practices to make sure customers were going to get the kind of quality experience he has dedicated himself to providing. It was a fascinating look into how business owners are having to respond to social media that have such a heavy impact on their operations. In the end I think I may have gained not just a neat contact, but the beginnings of a relationship that might better be called a business friendship. (Plus, I got an absolutely great Semion haircut, like the ones I'd had the few other times I'd previously been in:). Overall this seems like a solid barbershop with some great stylists -- but unfortunately my experience was not great. I had Chloe -- who was very nice but did not cut my hair evenly. I got home and realized my hair was completely uneven and had to get it fixed at another shop afterwards. I've been a customer of Semion's for over 2 years now. Despite some constructive feedback below, from a one-off experience, I confidently recommend this place. Semion's is a casual, no judgment, and generally efficient barbershop with many talented stylists providing quality service. The shop itself is easy to access, spacious, and there is plenty of parking nearby. As a guy with a thinning head of hair, I appreciate the fair and reasonable prices (I get the deluxe buzz cut for $30) and no judgement. I also like that the shop takes appointments (recommend) as well as walk-ins. Additionally, the shop offers a complimentary straight edge neck shave. I don't have a go-to stylist but I am always happy with the friendly service I am provided. Appointment times generally run on schedule but today had the unfortunate experience of people writing their names above mine on the appointment white board. As a result, I had a 30 minute wait from my appointment time/arrival as people with appointments later than my own (and who arrived later) were called before I was. Recommend the stylists only cross out the names or be sure to rewrite and move up names as they go through the list. Also recommend customers monitor their name's status on the board better than what I did so this doesn't happen. Also the shop may want to look into a more reliable payment system. Credit cards could not be processed today, and we had to resort to writing my credit card info on a sticky note so I could be charged when the system is back working again. Pretty unnerving to have to do that but I suppose I should carry cash. read more

Not impressed. Gave me a pretty crappy undercut buzz instead of a tapered blend like I asked. Possibly the worst haircut I've ever received. Really bummed. Don't make the same mistake of coming here. UPDATE: the owner called my personal cell and offered either a free haircut or a full refund to make this right. It's been 6 weeks since my last haircut at Semion. I arrived at 12:55pm without an appointment. I waited only 20 minutes before Deserea cut my hair. She was very professional asking for my opinion several times while cutting my hair. She trimmed my beard paying special attention to the shape/line of the beard, under my nose and around my lips. No nicks. I got a complimentary straight razor shave on my neck. I was charged $50 and I gave her a tip of $12. They do not generate paper receipts. read more

Updated review.. after barber shop hopping for a few months and being VERY unsatisfied first multiple reasonsI decided to go back to Semion today for a walk in. I was very pleased with the cut and the service I received. Today I waited awhile ( I was a walk in after all) and got Jolissa. She did a great job, was attentive and i will be returning. Im honestly sorry I ever left. What can I say? Maybe I was a little moody over losing my go to stylist. I do have very difficult hair. It's always been a struggle to get a good consistent cut. Being in from out of town for 2 weeks, I was in dire need for a cut. Now I do hate having to go see someone else to get it done because I hate to have to explain what I prefer. So I did some research and chose to come here. Little did I know my cut would be done by the owner. I made my appointment about two days for a Friday am cut. When I arrived, I was told to write my name on the dry erase board and to grab a seat. Lo and behold, Semion's 10a was late so he took me for the cut. After about 10 minutes, we were chatting it up. He did a great job with my hair and I felt my cut was fair at $35. My only thing was I wished he would've rinsed my hair to get any stragglers of hair out of there since my hair is so thick. Called to make an appointment for 11:30am. First time my name was called an older white gentleman went instead and they crossed my name off, and then added it back on. I was being extra patient and then it happened again, they called my name and someone else went, at that point I figured it was a waste of time staying. I'm very very understanding but cmon now, I have to be white to get a haircut at my scheduled appointment time? I've been coming here for like 3-4 years I guess this is a sign to stop cause my stylist who used to cut my hair is long gone. I had a haircut there yesterday. It was a nice place. The staff were good and professional. The service was good and I feel comfortable during my time there. They asked if I have a specific style I want but I let them be choose which style will look good on me. The staff were friendly and skillful. He was nice to talked with too.
