I went here for an impromptu curly cut. The woman who cut my hair didn't seem to have any specific process and my cut ended up really uneven. I eventually went to another salon to correct it. I was unhappy with my experience at this salon, and my hair results. I asked for balayage in my appointment request, and showed this photo to the stylist (first photo), and she said no problem. As someone who's not used to getting my hair done, maybe I should have asked more specific details about what she was going to do. She began coloring strips of hair, taking about 30 minutes, let the color sit, then washed it out, and I was essentially left with glorified highlights (second photo). I was confused because I thought she was going to keep working on it, but instead she started drying my hair and it was clear she was done. I asked the stylist, "is this considered balayage? I was looking for more color/lightness at the ends and for it to be more blended," and she just said, "well something like that will take more time so you'll have to come back. I don't want you to go too light too fast." Um okay, why didn't you tell me this at the beginning? I was definitely under the impression I was going to get what I wanted that day. She blow dried it straight, and I had to ask her to at least style it a bit with some curl, and she seemed reluctant but did. I'm not sure if I paid for a "balayage" or for highlights, but I paid and decided I'd go somewhere else to get what I wanted. I admit I'm not much of a hair girl, which is why I'll humbly accept feedback if the general consensus is that it is indeed impossible to achieve this hairstyle in one go, but after talking to friends who get their hair colored often, it seems as though this shouldn't have been impossible. read more

the salon is very cute + morgan (my stylist) for 2 appointments was very nice & easy to get along with. however, in my opinion, the pricing is a little steep for the services and i was not happy with my services either time. the 1st time, i asked morgan for calico hair (basically a mix of chunky blonde, red/orange, & brunette/black highlight like stripes throughout your hair). the red was hardly present & incredibly subtle, more subtle than i would've liked for what i was paying. i'm incredibly ocd so after going home & staring at my new hair in the mirror, the blonde "stripes" closest to my face were uneven in width. despite these things, i gave her another chance when i came in a month or so ago to just go all over light brunette. at the end of that appointment, i walked out with darker brown hair than i came in with. to make matters worse, those 2 blonde stripes closest to my face were the light brown i was trying to achieve. when morgan didn't take bleach to my head to get the light brunette that i showed her inspo pics of, i anticipated the disappointment but i tried to trust & not question her since she is the "professional". safe to say, i will not be returning because i have newfound trust issues with capability of any stylist there, even though the owner reached out to me & tried to right morgan's wrongs but only if it was an "easy fix". read more

After having the same hair cutter back in NYC for five years (and not getting a haircut since January 2020), I heard the smooth murmur of Mufasa in my ear, whispering "it's time." (Either that, or my boyfriends cat kept trying to play with my hair that turned into a rats nest over the last year and now I think he's talking to me) But alas. It was time, and I am so glad I found Cult of Mane. The salon made me feel very comfortable for a cut in the time of Corona. It was a relaxing experience just like the good old days. I have a lot of hair, which is very thick, and each strand does its own style when not maintained... so I was nervous. **** update: the salon owner Shannon texted & called me as I requested so that I could voice concerns as a client straight to management. Shannon instead belittled me, told me not to leave them bad reviews, spoke over me multiple times while yelling at me to not speak over her. Very aggressive. She was extremely rude to me the entire time and then called me a "bully" because I asked them to take a photo down of me from their page since it didn't reflect what my hair actually looked like. Shannon also shamed me for waiting so long to write a review when I've been traveling then broke my ankle all while and planning a wedding. I would say I even more upset. All I wanted was management to hear my concerns and instead got harassed For my concerns. Disrespectful and unprofessional. 0 customer service. Shannon's response to this review is false. This photo of my gray streaked hair & bad root job was taken October 23rd 2021. Right after I got my hair done in October as Shannon reminded me. I've attached another photo with the time stamp on it at the top. This is an accurate unedited and un-lightened photo of what my hair truly looked like unlike the one they are portraying of me with fresh toner (my hair was not that bright before as shown in her "before photo"). Second photo I uploaded (the one with my hand where you can see through my hair) is my hair today after months of using shampoo I was recommended by this stylist. I haven't gotten my hair done since due to damage. This photo is to prove my hair is severely broken and damaged from her recommendation and an attempt for her not to recommend anything to future client's when she doesn't know their hair. It may not work for everyone. I am being shamed and portrayed badly after this review was posted by this business owner, the stylist I wrote the review about and they even have other stylists I have never met from this salon messaging me on Yelp and saying really rude things to me. Jill's above review about me is also false. Time stamps and real photos don't lie. I cancelled my next appointment ASAP. They are also trying to state my photo is inaccurate but my entire family & friends were concerned about my "gray hair". This was it in real life. If you want to go to a salon where the owner and stylist feel the need to argue with customers over yelp....while posting photos of people without their consent on Yelp.... go right ahead. Photos I asked to be taken down as false advertising. They have also gotten others to spam make reviews in order to combat my review specifically. Will no longer be arguing back and forth with people who claim to be professionals and are ganging up on me via Yelp and making the situation worse. Go at your own risk. EXTREMELY UNHAPPY! I came here for a root to tip platinum look. Day of was told Jill, my stylist, wouldn't be doing that. Instead I got a shadow root and ashy hair that barely changed my coloring. Did i also mention she charged me $400 for this? Why give someone a root smudge when they do not want roots showing at all? I felt I made this clear. She argued back with me about my color leading me to feel not ok the entire appointment. I was also given some false info about becoming platinum. The stylist also told me I needed to start using Olaplex before my appointment, which has DESTROYED my hair entirely & broken it. As a stylist, you shouldn't recommending shampoos to clients when you're not familiar with their hair. There is no excuse for the amount of time or money for something I didn't even want. Or how she didn't even listen to what I wanted and did something else all while making me not feel great. I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new stylist. I've had two appointments so far and have been so pleased with Jill! We had an initial consultation that felt like an open discussion where my voice was heard and Jill used her knowledge and expertise to craft up a color and cut not only based on what I wanted, but what was best for my hair integrity, current outgrowth, and lifestyle. She recommended Olaplex No 3 which I've used before and loved, so I was happy to work that back into my routine again. Both appointments that followed that consultation were fantastic! I couldn't stop smiling at the end of each as I was so in love with my new hair, both cut and color. Jill did wonderful and is such a bright person to be around! Yasssss, Russ Salon! You make me feel like a queen. I have finally found my go-to Denver hair salon and it feels like the planets have aligned. I came in with a hot mess of a mane--living in a dry climate can zap your ends real quick, and I let my scraggly ends go for too long. I had finally had it with the mess and went on a hunt for something in my neighborhood with excellent Yelp reviews. Russ came out on top with five shiny stars and I decided to make an appointment ASAP. The booking process is awesome--I was able to log onto their site on a Monday evening and book an appointment for the very next morning. Score! I headed in for my AM appointment and met Alyx, who is a total goddess. She sat me down and we talked about #hairgoals, she offered me a drink, and the proceeded to wash my hair with what felt like magic. My hair is still smelling and feeling awesome, one day and one wash later. Alyx then got to cleaning up my 'do and was super thorough--she got the big stuff while my hair was wet, then dried it to finish up all of the little detals. Note: I have *a lot* of curly/wavy hair, and stylists tend to blow my hair out into a 90's news anchor look. Not on Alyx's watch--I left with a clean and modern (AKA not 90's) look. The salon itself is very hip--I love the clean feel and plants everywhere. Prices were super reasonable and pretty consistent with most boutique salons in the area. I scheduled my first appointment with Russ Crimone, and after a brief conversation he immediately put me at ease. The cut was clean and updated. I was chit chatting with someone from work and I realized it had been OVER a YEAR since my last haircut. I moved from CA to Denver in August 2019 so needless to say, my hair needed a bit of TLC. Not only was I able to book my appointment the same day, I had the best experience with my stylist, Kat! She was so friendly and personable. Finding a good salon is tough. I think hair work is like any art - quite a few people believe they can be masters but few really are. Today I had the very good fortune of being squeezed into Anita's schedule. Not only was she very understanding about a missed prior appointment (tech glitches and power outages) but she was incredibly easy to be around and I felt instantly as though I'd be in good hands. And I was. She put life back into my hair with a simple trim and a razor. Amazing. Another note - if you schedule on Thursdays, she and Russ are the only ones in the salon in the PM and you can enjoy music stations that conjure up memories of pegged pants, acid washed jeans, and feathered hair. She worked on my hair (a ratty, multicolored mess) during the 3 months I was staying in Denver and I was so pleased and grateful with the time she put in and the loveliness that began to emerge, lol. I've seen Alyx twice now, and feel comfortable in writing a gushing review. I had an amazing hair stylist that slowly went downhill, and I finally decided to see what other options were out there. On top of finding another stylist, I had red hair that I hated. I washed my hair every day, sometimes twice to get it to fade. It was just awful. It was more of a purple red. So Alyx had a tough task ahead of her - one, replace a hair stylist I had loved for four years and two, get rid of this horrible red by turning me back to a blonde. The first appointment was okay, my hair appeared more natural looking. However, it wasn't blonde and I was disappointed. Alyx explained numerous time that going straight to blonde would just damage it, and I knew she was correct but I was frustrated. I just hated being a 'red head' so much. I had compliments every day regarding how great my hair was; and even while on a trip, a few random people remarked how nice it must be to a red head. Even though I hated the color, I had to give it to Alyx for taking an unnatural red color and getting it to a strawberry blonde that was a little heavy on the strawberry, but at least natural looking. The next appointment I just couldn't take it, I had to go blonde. Alyx was hesitant, but we went for it. I didn't realize just how much work it was going to take, but three plus hours later, I was a blonde. A wonderful blonde with even tone everywhere. Just amazing. Everyone in the salon that had been there for process was impressed. I was super happy, and thankful that I had given Russ Salon, especially Alyx, a try. This is a excellent and intimate salon. I think all the stylists are very solid and Tessa McKillop has been cutting my hair for over 6 years now. I see Tessa every 2-3 months and she consistently does an excellent cut, color and style. I have naturally curly red hair which can be very tricky yet she has masted several versions of red I like to rotate throughout the seasons. Want darker and more dramatic color for winter? No problem! The best part is that she always makes my color look NATURAL next to my skin tone. Whether you prefer to chat away during your appointment or quietly read a magazine Tessa is always accommodating. I highly recommend her. The other thing I enjoy about this salon is the organic hair products by Kevin Murphey. The prices are very competitive and vary depending on the stylist you choose, so keep that in mind when booking.
