Lots of missteps early on - like creating my policies with the wrong name (I go by my middle name but details people) and telling me I didn't have mold coverage when I needed it (I did, had to read the policy myself to find the actual answer). I overlooked many of these small(ish) annoyances and just thought wow, I wonder why my realtor recommended them. The policies (homeowners and auto) seemed good so I figured it didn't matter much. I had a pretty big claim on my house 5 months after I bought it. It sucked. Hinman & Associates did not help at all. Fine, I got it. However, at some point the insurance company requested proof that I had completed the rest of the repairs - only they asked my insurance agent, Rob Hinman, for this and did not ask me. If they had asked me, I would have sent it immediately. It turns out this was because without it, they weren't going to renew my policy when it is up in a month. OK, kind of important, right? So Rob calls me and casually mentions something about them not wanting to renew my policy. Doesn't seem like a big deal to him. It is to me though. So I send him the documentation for the insurance company. I hear nothing back. That day! I got a notice of non-renewal in the mail. OK...a simple fix, right? My crack insurance agent will know what to do! I called, emailed...nothing. This was last week and I still haven't heard back from him. Luckily, in the meantime, I contacted my insurance company and sent what they needed and they renewed my policy. WHEW! Of course, I didn't quite catch them before they notified my mortgage company that my homeowners policy wouldn't be renewed. Mortgage companies reallllly don't like that. So now I have more stuff to do, since Rob Hinman couldn't be bothered to contact me. Yes, I am changing to a new insurance agent!

My initial meeting with Eric was pleasant. However, problems arose about a year into doing business with him. First of all, I had ZERO INFRACTIONS and my insurance went up from $80/month to $120/month in less than a year(!!!). (And that is WITH a teacher discount). That is an increase of $40/month totaling $480 more a year. As a result, the card that I had on automatic payment was unexpectedly and unknowingly declined because the bank flagged it as fraudulent because it was not authorized for the increasing amount. Eric's office sent me an email regarding this; however, I did not receive it because my previous correspondence was directly from Eric's email, but this urgent and important email came from his secretary (which my email provider did not recognize and flagged as spam). When I spoke to the secretary about this (Eric was out of the office), she said that she had also sent a read receipt with the email. I did not receive the email, so she should have realized that I did not read it from the read receipt. I only found it in my spam box AFTER the urgent deadline. My insurance was then cancelled without my knowledge. To make things even more confusing, I had just received a new insurance card in the mail from Farmers, valid for another 6 months. In the meantime, I had decided to shop around for other insurance and found something MUCH more reasonable. To make a long story short, because of the ineffective and faulty communication on the part of Eric's office and unknowingly having my policy canceled, I ended up with a ONE DAY lapse in insurance and had to pay the DMV HUNDREDS of dollars to get my registration reinstated. Poor communication and outrageous prices....not worth it. I am working hard to pay off my student loan debt and the last thing that I need is to be stuck paying outrageous fines that are a result of someone else's negligence.
