Very responsive, up-to-date on latest issues and solutions, excellent educational programs for all…read morestaff. Very caring staff, answer calls immediately unlike some in town that roll in to leave a message at the tone and never call you back and others that never have even laid eyes on or touched their clients in a facility for two weeks but rely total on facility staff to do their job, for which staff is not trained nor expected to do! Vitas is A+

My dad received hospice care from VITAS. We were told when we first met with a coordinator that…read moresomeone was available 24/7. We loved our aide who came a few times a week to bathe my dad. She was wonderful and caring. Our nurse was ok but we did see a couple other nurses when ours wasn't available that were outstanding. The social worker who came when my dad passed away was so caring and helpful. Now about the 24/7 care...it was non existent. I called one evening at 6:42 and really needed help. We received a call back at 11:45. Almost 5 hours later. This happened more than once. After hours nurses never ever showed. I called about my dad being in pain at 9:00 on a Friday morning. At 1:00 no one had called me so I called again. I was told they would call in a prescription and a nurse would come and show us how to use it. No nurse ever came. No pain meds. The following Monday my dad had difficulty breathing and our regular nurse called to say he couldn't make it. My mom called and asked for someone else to come because he was really bad. She was told no one was available to come. I ended up calling, talked to a manager, and finally got someone to come. My dad passed away shortly after the nurse left. I thought the idea of hospice was to make the patient comfortable (no pain meds) and make things less stressful for the family. VITAS caused more stress at times with their inconsistent care.

Shop Around & Get Quotes for Better Pricing & Service I am…read morewriting this personal opinion review to encourage others to shop around before contracting with Jason Penrod and Family Elder Law (FEL) - scroll to the end of this review for a list of recommended attorneys offering the same service for less than half the price of FEL. In a nutshell, my family contacted FEL for a simple irrevocable trust (IT) for the benefit of our mother who has dementia. The trust was to be funded with just 3 assets: her mobile home, car, and CDs issued from the same bank. We were quoted a price of $8000 by Mr. Penrod. We were astonished by such a high price for such a simplistic IT. However, we agreed to the price, erroneously believing that the elevated pricing included management of the trust, which we later discovered it did not. I will only state that my sister and I were very busy and in such a hurry to get the IT drafted that we did not take the time to obtain quotes from other attorneys, and that was our foolish mistake. It was not until another attorney I know in Florida told me that we could have gotten the IT (with Medicaid Asset Protection Trust (MAPT) elements) for half of what we paid Family Elder Law that I took the time to actually contact other attorney offices and verified this as true. Based upon these findings, we asked Mr. Penrod for a $3000 partial refund. Our request was denied. As such, I want to educate others and give recommendations to the following reputable, reasonably priced firms operating in the same geographical area as FEL The below quotes are for the exact same service with the exact same assets for which Family Elder Law charged us $8000. Be advised that these attorney firms are not "elder law" specialists. However, to draft the simplistic templated IT/MAPT that we received - and wishing to fund it with only 3 noncomplicated assets - an elder law specialist is not required. An estate planning attorney, or even an attorney with trust drafting experience is equally as qualified, this opinion is based upon my being a retired California attorney. Here is my recommended list, although I encourage people to contact and request quotes from other law firms as well: Ables & Craig - Sebring, FL - 50 years' experience drafting trusts - $800 vs. $8000 MacBeth J Ross - Sebring, FL - 50 years' experience specializing in estate planning - $3000 vs. $8000 Peterman & Myers - Lakeland & Winterhaven - full-service law firm in business for 60 years that has an estate planning division - $3500 vs. $8000 If your needs are elder law specific, here is a list of just some of the other elder law specialists in Florida for you to contact and obtain a quote in order to make an informed decision: Family First Firm - Medicaid & Elder Law Attorneys - Winter Park, FL among other locations in FL Flammia Elder Law Firm - Winter Park, FL Waldoch & Mcconnaughhay - Tallahassee, FL (2018, 2020, & 2023 Elder Law Attorney of the Year) Hemness Faller Elder Law - Brandon, FL (2017 & 2021 Elder Law Attorney of the Year) Boyer & Boyer - Sarasota, FL (2024 Elder Law Attorney of the Year) Heuler, Wakeman, Solomon Law Group - Tallahassee, FL (2019 Elder Law Attorney of the Year) Britton G. Swank P.A. - Elder Law Atty - Ft. Meyers and Lehigh Acres, FL (2022 Elder Law Attorney of the Year) Selis Law Firm - multiple locations in Florida (2016 Elder Law Attorney of the Year) FEL did not live up to our expectations, and for that additional reason I do not recommend this firm. Please be advised that this review is solely and exclusively my personal opinion and impression of the experience that my family received using Mr. Penrod's and FEL's services - it is not intended to be libelous or defamatory, nor is it intended to cause reputational harm to Mr. Penrod or his firm. I simply want to encourage people to potentially save themselves thousands of dollars and receive good legal service by doing what we didn't do: get quotes from other attorneys and then decide who was the best fit for our needs.
