I understand appointments come first, but, they said they were short staffed and they had 3 people up front but one lady wasn't checking anyone in - just sitting there telling the 1-2 people who walked up every five minutes how to sign their name to a sheet - if she were also checking people in, that would make sense. The lady who eventually checked me in was very pleasant and that went smoothly - but, geez! I was fasting so that hour felt like an eternity. Once I checked in - I waited about another 5-10 minutes and was called back to a friendly gal who quickly and efficiently took my blood and urine for testing. I was probably only back there with her for 5 minutes. Location was nice for me, had never been here before, but it's right by my daughter's daycare and I had pre-ordered labs from my annual physical exam so I could stop in any of like 5 locations. I don't know that I would come to this particular one again without an appointment - the wait was far too long.

The waiting area is large and comfortable. the last time I went, we drove up to a platoon of First Atlantic Restoration vans. We learned that there had been a bad water leak. All outpatients were being sent to the nearby Brock Cancer Center. Lab & Check in personnel from Leigh had also been moved over to the detour location. When we drove up yesterday the front doors were blocked. There was a large sign pointed south that read entrance. We drove around the building and found no entrance. On the way back a person was walking down the sidewalk. She pointed us to the one door that could be entered. It was obstructed from easy view by the large entrance detour sign. Walking in I found so much completely different. One was first sent through security, which had never been in the lobby of Leigh. My purse was searched before I went through a scanner. The front area, which was previously a nice large entrance and desk, was now covered in plywood. The employees have always been nice and friendly. I was called back into the lab just as I finished registration. My regular bloodwork was done quickly and I prepared to leave. Sitting down in the main lobby I texted my ride that I was done. Of course I took a few pictures. When I picked up my purse I glanced at my arm. Blood was pouring out from the bandaid that covered what is normally just a needle prick. It was all over my arm, hand and shirt. Stunned, I finally moved when the really nice Security guy told me I'd better go back to the lab, Returning to the checkin area I asked if they could buzz me back in. They also stood there stunned before one asked if I had just had lab work done. When I affirmed they finally took action. The same person who drew my blood cleaned me up & used a big wrap around bandage on my arm. She said she had thought it would be fine. I really expected more of an apology. Thinking back I did remember that she had the drawer open a little longer than usual deciding what to use. Did she use the wrong size needle? Now I'm a little worried about the level of staff experience, which I've always counted on before. Even though the bandage was tight I was afraid to take it off until last night. I'm a regular at bloodwork and IV's. I have absolutely no problem with needles or having blood drawn. But today the inside of my arm looks like someone slit it with a knife. There's at least a one inch line where there should be an almost imperceptible prick or some bruising. I'm really debating as to whether I should change my preference for lab work.

She arrived with severe shortness of breath and significant fluid retention, and although she received the standard initial workup, the overall treatment she received was unacceptable. Dr. Erwin appeared more focused on discharging my mother quickly than ensuring her safety. Given her condition, an overnight observation was not only reasonable but medically appropriate. It is alarming that a heart failure patient would be pushed out so rapidly without adequate monitoring. When I called to advocate for my mother, Dr. Erwin refused to speak with me beyond stating she needed to talk to my mother first, despite my clear explanation that I was not asking for private medical information. This further demonstrated a lack of professionalism and unwillingness to hear legitimate concerns about patient safety. As someone with firsthand experience in this hospital, I have seen a pattern of dismissive and inadequate care. It is deeply troubling that patients do not consistently receive equitable or compassionate treatment. The behavior displayed last night reflects a broader issue in which some medical staff appear disengaged from the responsibility and seriousness of their roles. They need 0 stars.

He waits and a nurse takes him to the nursing station for vitals and he also tells her he's there for a physical. He gets brought to a room and waits for the physician who comes in and my husband hands him the physical form his work provided him. He told my husband the form is "too thorough" and says he needs to ask another doctor so he steps out. He comes back and tells my husband that this physical is too thorough and my husband was like " that's fine can I just have the physical that you all provide and I'll just submit that to my work" .. the doctor says "well I've already discharged you so you'll have to pay again and go back through" !!!!!!?????? Are you kidding me?! Why would you discharge him before coming back into the room to speak with him? I'm on Medicare & have a Supplemental that pays everything that Medicare doesn't. When calling about the bill, I learned that TPW had become a division of Mid-Atlantic Women's Care. The new corporation totally changed everything about the operational aspects of the company, They required a total examination, whether one needed it or just came for a minor testing. Patients on Medicare were expected to pay the full amount out of pocket. Both my doctor and I appealed to the office manager that neither of us knew of the change. The front desk person who checked me in also wasn't fully aware of the change. The office manager appealed to their new corporate and assured me that they would offer a credit, since neither I or my doctor were aware of the change, But the bills continued to come, I finally gave up on their making good on the promise and paid the bill. This year when my appointment time was near I received a letter indicating the cost. A signatory of confirmation was required. I canceled the appointment, The acquisition of TPW by Mid-Atlantic Women's Care has ruined the practice for older women. I'm sure for young or middle aged women it's still a wonderful practice. Last year, I became pregnant and came back for my obstetric care. I'm over 35 so there was a lot of testing, blood tests, ultrasounds, and referrals to EVMS for special screenings but they handled it all with care and made it fairly easy. I've seen most of the physicians here, as a group, they prefer to rotate you around to everyone so that you hopefully have seen all the doctors who may be on call when you go into labor. Still, you will likely click with one and try to stick with that one if you can. My original doctor, Fontanares, was wonderful, but retired from deliveries at around my 4th month and passed me on to Dr. Sarah Murphy who she said she knew I would love. She was right. I saw her for the remainder and is the Dr. who ultimately delivered my baby girl at Sentara Leigh. I also liked Dr. Connor and Dr. Arbogast but really clicked with Dr. Murphy who is younger, recently had a baby herself, and is very healthy and active. We bonded over both being runners while we were pregnant and staying active late into the third trimester. Dr. Murphy is a D.O. instead of an M.D. If you're like me, you don't know the difference. This means she is a medical doctor with similar practice and education as an M.D. but is doctor of Osteopathic Medicine - meaning the main difference is a more holistic mind/body overall approach to care of patients instead of the M.D. more treat the illness type of approach. Ok, sign me right up! That's exactly what I wanted for my pregnancy/delivery experience and is just what I received. I 100% had the delivery that I wanted. I wanted to remain active, wear a wireless heart monitor for the baby, walk around, wait to get the epidural and stay informed and make choices the entire way. We worked on a plan for induction and scheduled it for a day she was on call. Luckily, my induction/labor only lasted 12 hours and I delivered at 3:49am when her shift was ending at around 8am! We pulled it off. I feel grateful to have had her as my physician for perhaps the biggest medical event of any woman's life - she was a real gem who treated me with respect and as a partner in this event. She listened to me, made sure I was heard, took the time to answer all questions, is very personable and down to earth, everything I wanted. I've heard so many horror stories that I wanted to share a very positive birth experience and positive experience with this practice! I'm sad that I will likely not see her again as I see an oncologist for BRCA/Cancer screening but, if I am released, I will come back!

"The good news is your heart looks great." She said as I winced in pain. It seemed she was trying to prove her medical knowledge when I was there to get help for a serious issue. I don't recommend this place. I'm just too afraid of what may happen to you if you are left in the care of the wrong practitioner.
