My friends and I ate here for brunch yesterday around 1pm. Granted it was busy but the staff seemed really slow for the most part. Slow to come take orders (had to ask someone to come to our table and even then the woman took a leisurely stroll to get there), had to wave someone to refill water during our meal, had to get up and ask a server to get our bill and that took a while. Our waitress for the most part, was unfortunately, a nonsmiling young woman with two small buns on her head; she was nothing short of surly. When the galettes came, she stood there with the plate and barked the order. When the bill came, she actually somewhat tossed the small plate the bill was in so that it clattered on the table. I remember my other friends looking startled. Thankfully no service is included but none was deserved. It's amazing what people put up with here that would NEVER fly in NY. Still shocks me as an expat. Anyway onto the food. It took a while to arrive (as did all our food) but my Roast Squash with goat cheese was delicious (I got the buckwheat batter). Stuffed with veg and the portion was quite large. My friends similarly praised their food and the prices are very good with no galettes or crepes being more than £9 (I think). I would consider returning save for the service. That's a dealbreaker for me and Senzala does not deliver. read more

Absolutely mouth-watering creperie, you won't want to miss it. I had the steaks crepe, which was one of the most savoury crepe I had ever had. It was very flavourful and portions were generous too. Nestled within Brixton food village was this fabulous find!! Senzala is a creperie that serves traditional French crepes with some Brazilian flair! They serve both sweet and savoury crepes here - but as it was lunch time, i opted for a savoury crepe. I ordered the Spaniard, which consisted of cheese, chorizo, fried egg, red onions and baby leaf spinach. It was by far the best savoury crepe i have ever had!! Their home-made lemonade was also beautiful. One of my best friends lives nearby - so I'm hoping to visit here again very soon!! read more

A Brazilian pancake house, whatever next! The place is inside Brixton market and worth a venture out to it. Staff very friendly and polite. The inside rather cramped but comfortable... I'm guessing authentic! The menu gives a great choice of savoury and sweet dishes, healthy, vegetarian and even vegan options too. This place was cute... Really, really cute. After roaming around Brixton Market with a friend and getting tired of the London rain, we decided to take our dessert before getting dinner. We ordered the maple, caramelized banana, walnut and hazelnut crepe. It was absolutely delicious and the kind of overly sweet crepe that leaves you in an after meal slump. Located in the indoor Brixton Market food/shopping area, Senzala's officially called the "Brick Box," so don't be confused if you're trying to hunt it down! We stopped in around 1:30 pm on a Sunday, and it was busy but had a few tables free, both out front and inside. Since we were all hungover, the relative darkness of the inside tables seemed better. The menu offers sweet and savory crepes, espresso drinks, and beer and cider. It's a bit cramped inside, so get ready to make friends with the neighboring tables. Because it was so full, it was a bit noisy, but the volume also gave the place a fun, bustling energy. Service was quick and efficient, though it can be hard to get your server to bring over the check when you're finished (you have to ask or they'll just leave you there). Crepes ranged from £5-7 and are large and generously filled; one each is good for a light meal, plus maybe a sweet crepe to share for dessert. I met with a friend on the weekend for our monthly brunch, and we decided to try out Brixton again, as there were so many delicious places we walked past last time. Usually I have a place in mind ahead of time, as I have a gluten issue, but this time we just decided to wing it, and I'm glad we did. We walked past this place and the waitress advised the buckwheat version of the crepes were gluten free. SOLD! There were only table outside, and it was a little cool, but once they turned the heater on above our heads it wasn't too bad. Now lets talk menu. Boy oh boy where to even start. There are at least 10-15 different types of sweet and then the same in savory versions. It was so much pressure to find one that I wanted more than the rest. I think in the 5-10 mins I spent looking at the menu, I changed my mind at least 50 times. I decided on the buckwheat crepe with banana, honey and dark Belgian chocolate on the side. My Friend ordered a savory one, with a delicious looking egg on the top. The serving sizes are pretty decent, and I am doubtful anyone would leave Senzala feeling hungry still. The Belgian chocolate was super rich, and I'm not sure I needed that huge amount of sugar, but man was it delicious. I did have savory crepe envy when I was hitting my sugar overload. But all in all for a crepe and a coffee for under £10 you can't really go wrong. I'd recommend getting here early though, cos there was quite a queue after we were seated. I love Brixton Market and rarely felt disappointed by the food but this time I wasn't really happy. Senzala is a cool place with a good concept, very friendly staff and a nice offer even for vegans...but...my friend and I ordered two different buckwheat galettes with vegan fillings that all sounded super yummy but sadly disappointed us both. It just wasn't falvourful so we poured lots of chilli sauce on our plates. They don't allow BYO but the house red was tasty and at 16 quid not too expensive. Afterwards we shared a Sweet Sin, a crepe with chocolate, banana, and vanilla ice cream, which was ok but also didn't rock my boat. Maybe they're good at the traditional ham and cheese galette but you have to see for yourself. read more

First impression of Brixton, 5 stars impression it was. Hard to actually judge this place objectively without talking about the setting, right in the middle of Brixton Village. This market is just the perfect setting to grab a cheap and great bite with friends, for drinks and takeaways ! My crêpe Picante was exactly what I expected, spicy but not too much...this and cider, perfect match. Came here on a weekday to get a quick meal before the Death Can show (yea!). It was surprisingly lively for a Wednesday, tho we didn't have a problem getting a seat. We ordered a couple of savoury crepes and split a dessert crepe and let me tell you, that was more than enough food! We were spoiled for choice; I could have eaten any of 15 items happily. Even the drinks were good. I got a lovely caipirinha, tho my GF thought her kit royale was too sweet Everyone was nice, tho the service was a touch spacey. I will happily go back tho! read more

Had a fab lunch here today with a dear friend who is a local so recommended the place. She's a veggie and I'm getting #weddingfit for the big day in 3 months! So was super excited by the wholemeal veggie galettes - and boy were they tasty! Absolutely perfect for a healthy but satisfying lunch. Lots of other tempting meat and fishy options too. Cute little creperie in Camden Market. It's popular, so expect to queue. But there a quick turn around, so you don't have to wait long. The staff are friendly and efficient. The menu offers a wide range of yummy crepes to choose from, but isn't just limited to that. I found my crepe a bit dry, but that might be because I won't for the healthy option and had mine made with buckwheat. ...Guess I'll have to go back and try it again with normal flour! Had an outstanding cajun king prawn galette for brunch yesterday, lovely fresh ingredients and speedy (if Moody) service. Sweet juicy prawns, red peppers, red onions, mature cheddar, Tabasco and spices with their fresh Brazilian chilli sauce on the side. I've been here twice, once on a week day (quiet, sedate, no stress) and once on a Sunday (the opposite). It's one of the lynchpins of Brixton Village, and is popular for good reason. The savoury crepes are amongst the best I've had in London. Packed full of ingredients, nicely crispy, and always massive. And cheap too! It's a world away from paying a small fortune for those burnt and meagre offerings you get in Central. The place itself is pretty small but doubles in size with the tables outside (which are still inside of the market, if that makes sense). I wouldn't say it's a particularly comfortable place, but the food makes up for it. Both times the service was the same - perfunctory, swift, not overly friendly but not rude. Worth a visit, even if you do have to queue for a while at the weekend. read more

Oh my God, for a first @ Brixton Village, I think that I could not have better "introduction" to the place. Having a strong French cultural background, I love crepes. Good crepes. And I am extremely demanding when I pop in a creperie... This one was absolutely great, on every aspect. Great team, smiley all the way and very kind despite the business of the place. I had a classic triple-chocolate crepe, very well done and honestly quite cheap, and an Americano single shot. It was quite packed inside and outside, which in my view is a good testimony to the quality of the place. I really had a lovely time time and will definitely go again. I would definitely recommend this place, lovely outside seating as in the rest of the village, which is generally a great place, buzzing with atmosphere. it does get very busy though so be prepared to fight for tables...or wait! read more

I love the crepes here, the decor, and even how cramped it is. I don't know what is wrong with the waiter here though. He was great the first time around, but when I brought in a bigger group of friends the second time around, he was really rude and refused to seat us together with our party of six. It was pretty weird, given that half the restaurant was empty- very unaccomodating. The three stars is for the food- but the service doesn't deserve one star. read more

Brixton village is a collection of restaurants, cafes, butchers and greengrocers with a strong Caribbean and Latin American slant but also a great variety of global cuisine. One of the busiest eateries here is invariably Senzala the owner is Brazilian as are some of the chefs who can be heard rabbiting away in Portuguese as they stand over the open hot plates in the kitchen. Senzala's raison d'etre is crepes in particular crepes made from buckwheat flour which are light yet with a firm crisp texture. They have a multitudinous selection of ingredients lending the ability to create your own as well as a menu with equal amounts of sweet and savoury options. There was also a perfectly cooked organic egg perched on top. The crepes are served along with Senzala's secret special sauce which has a nice balance of sweet red peppers with a slightly fiery cayenne pepper aftertaste. My girlfriend opted for Asparagus Plus which was loaded with ham, egg, a cheese blend with mixed herbs, all wrapped around beautifully cooked fresh asparagus. Brixton is the best part of London. Even in the rain. After you have wandered the Village Market, trailed in and out of African and South American shops, gone to the movies at theRitzy then you can have Brazilian crepes at Senzala. The ingredients are fresh-well, they can just run out to the market- , the portions are huge and the price is good enough so you have have another glass of wine and still get your heart's desire at the Pop up bins. (These are shops and boutiques and little bars in shipping containers.)
