Unexpectedly came towards the end of their weekday lunch deal so got the soondubu tofu soup and the seoul long tang which I usually get anyways and was an affordable price ~$15 each? (not too sure) The tofu soup I got was mild-lightly spicy and gosh it was the spiciest soup I've ever gotten and I usually eat this and other spicy foods perfectly fine! Wasn't the best for me. Alternatively the beef soup felt a bit bland but my friend liked it. Main complaint is not much beef in the soup and it tasted very tough. alternatively not much seafood either, just tiny small bits of cheap shrimps which were a bummer. Only good thing was the decent price and decent free side dishes (not many) of which only broccoli tasted good. Food took forever to come so side dishes were a life saver although they also were never refilled which at traditional places they are. Main thing: the service was quite bad... from the moment we walked in, we didn't feel welcome as no one welcomed us, dirty tables were everywhere (like in those video games you play to clean up), and we waited awhile at the counter looking at menus until someone greeted us with an attitude yelling that counter is only for to-go and we should've just sat down if we're dining in... she huffed and sat us down, surrounded by the dirty tables. We asked if we could sit elsewhere but as big as the restaurant was, she still said half of it was closed for dinner (I know other places do the same but they were kind enough to let us sit in that area when requested) and the reason why this time, was because we were literally sitting surrounded by dirty dishes all around us - which they never cleaned up the entire hour we dined here! Very unpleasant view-never have I ever! Even our current table was sticky. And the food and service took forever. She seemed very annoyed when we ordered and whenever we asked for water or refill side dishes and gave attitude like we obviously need to wait for her to appear and be free to even ask which she was rarely seen. I never saw her treat other customers like the same way she treated us, for them, she was very patient and kind and offered menu options and even personal talk. Seems like she doesn't like tourists, just regulars. Anyways she was rarely seen throughout the meal and so I just sucked up the not so good food and we finished and took awhile to get the check. That was the only point in the interaction she seemed to be present in the restaurant. Other times she was nowhere to be seen. When paying, she loudly exclaimed what do you want to tip? In an attitude saying that, we had to tip, and it had to be a sufficient amount otherwise she'd be upset - which she was because service was not good. Even when we left and said bye, she gave us no word back and just another one of those scowled looks. Only one lady working the front and she was barely present and not pleasant. Overall food really isn't bad but it isn't amazing either. If this cuisine is what you're craving go for it, it's fairly priced. I would support a small business. But don't expect a clean restaurant or friendly service - unless youre a regular or fits the server preferred demographic. Not the best experience for me. I may be part of the Asian club but I'm not a part of this particular inner circle. Being Filipino (or being human, for that matter), I tend to compare and contrast cuisines based on my own experience. With several Asian cuisines, rice seems to be the preferred carb. Korean black rice differs primarily in appearance - purple hue due to the mix of black and white rice. Gimbap (Kimbap) - is often described as Korean sushi. In doing some research, there's a distinct difference between the two. The seasonings used to flavor the steamed rice are salt and sesame oil. They are usually stuffed with cooked protein (beef, pork, tofu, fishcake) and pickled vegetables. They seem to be a larger diameter than maki sushi as well. Good? You betcha. Tonkatsu lunch is a favorite....think German pork schnitzel over black rice. The sauce seems to be Tteokbokki (glutinous rice cake) derived - sweet and slightly spiced. There are usually banchan (side dishes) accompanying the meal: kimchi, cucumber pickle, daikon, and eomuk (fish cake). They provide added contrast to the meal. The service has always been efficient and cordial every time I've picked up my order here. read more

As I've said before, the key to Seoul Korean Restaurant is consistency - good consistency. We've been here numerous times for more than twelve years. The only problem is our unintentionally neglecting the restaurant for extended periods of time. My last review was seven years ago. But that may not have been the last time we ate there, I just didn't write a review. Memory fading may explain why I keep ordering the same dish - Spicy Stir Fried Squid and Pork ($20.82). Or maybe because the menu is so large that I only get to the second page before I see something that sounds really delicious, and by that time my wife has made her decision, always the Hot Stone Bibimbap, and the staff are standing by our table ready to take our order. The menu now includes numerous Mandoo (dumpling) preparations. For this visit we chose the Vegetable Mandoo ($11.45). The dumpling is fried to just the lightest amount of crispness with a delicious minced vegetable filling. We requested them to be spicy but hardly noticed the spice either in the filling or the dipping oil. They are still the best we've found since I had them in Korea 55 years ago. The next time I hope to remember to try the meat filled Mandoo. My wife was once again thrilled with her Hot Stone (Dol Sot) Bibimbap ($18.74). She requested tofu as her protein to be added to the assorted seasoned vegetables. Once again, the bowl did not seem to be hot enough to crisp the rice that was at the bottom of the bowl. I think it's the more kitchen friendly bowls restaurants have switched to compared to the lava stone bowls used in years past. My Spicy Stir Fried Squid and Pork was delicious as usual. I requested a medium level of spice, and it was just right for me. I don't want to overlook the banchan that was served. Six different vegetables, including kimchi, were brought to our table while our dinner was being prepared. The appetizer, Mandoo, and entrees were once again served at the same time. As a heads up, the bill you are given is for a credit card payment. A statement on the bill indicates what a cash payment would be after a 4% discount plus tax. Dakgogi Dupbab 닭고기 덮밥 Korean BBQ Marinated Chicken Served over Rice with packets of Hot Sauce and Soy Sauce included A generous portion of pieces of thigh meat was served. It was moist and mostly tender. I asked for Mild Spice, and it was mild to medium which was okay. The vegetables were mostly cabbage and onion slices with a few peppers and two tiny slices of carrot. The cabbage was good and added balance to the spices. Four instead three sides were included: pickled cucumber, Kimchi, potato, and one I did not know. The cucumber was excellent, but the potato chunks were a little undercooked and not good. Undecided about the Kimchi because it left a bitter taste. Yay, I was pleased the lunch was served in a cardboard container instead of a plastic one. Food was four stars today based on only one dish. I hope to return soon with my grandson to try the fried whole eel, the Korean Curry, and a tofu dish. The restaurant is actually much larger than it looks from the parking lot. I love this restaurant. I brought my daughter with me. We had lunch on a week day. It was packed. There are a number of booths. A lot of seating. The cozy restaurant has a lot of food display cases. It's not particularly fancy but it is fun. My daughter who is a foodie was ready. She ordered the Spam Gimbap because she loves spam. I didn't know what to expect. We shared it. It was delicious. Gimbap looks a lot like large pieces of sushi, only better. I ordered the Bibim Bap entree with beef. My daughter had soup but I can't remember which one. My meal was wonderful. The beef was actually bulgogi. It came with rice and an assortment of marinated vegetables and pickled vegetables or kimchi. The side dishes are included. I always look forward to them. They are so tasty. They are usually varieties of kimchi and fish. I've been to this restaurant a number of times. It usually has an all-female staff. This time, the restaurant was staffed by young men. They were friendly and good communicators. I mentioned that they seemed remarkably busy. They agreed and they said they had no idea why. I love Korean food and I'm sad that there's none in Bethlehem. It's a bit of a hike to get to most Korean restaurants but especially Seoul in Latham. While I'm not a huge fan of the app base delivery services it is great for these sort of cases. It allows me to try restaurants that I would not get to otherwise. The ordering was smooth and the order was very well packaged. I was impressed by how varied the menu is and I can't wait to try other items. There were only two servers running the whole front of the place, so that's rough. Ours was friendly and hustling the best that she could. Loved the banchan-the regular mix of delicious spice, garlic and texture on 5 little plates. Kimbap with shrimp was great. Loved my bibimbap-but I needed gochujang and couldn't get anyone's attention. Once I got my hot sauce, I was a happy camper. Scallion seafood pancake? Winner winner....if you eat the whole thing you'll be too full for dinner! Took a lot of the pancake home since it was MIA until we got through our main courses (we asked about it and said we were too full but then it showed up...she was nice enough to ask if we still wanted to cancel it...which we didn't). This review is gonna be more about things you can buy that are in the cooler that are amazing. I love a good kimchi. This place sells small pints and full quarts of kimchi. I am not an expert of whether or not it's a winter or summer kimchi. I think it is a summer kimchi. Everything is so flavorful it's just bangs with flavor, it's incredibly colorful. You could tell a lot of care gets put into it. Honestly, one of the best Kimchis I've ever had. I would rate it a 9.7 out of 10, since I have to leave room for perfection if you ever run across it. First off, Seoul Korean was packed on a Monday night. Indeed that is a sign that they are doing something right and that their food is good! As I entered the establishment, there was a little wait to be seated. I noticed that a couple people further behind me, were impatient and walked out. After being seating at a booth, it appeared that a woman and one helper were the only staff for the night. It took what felt like another 15 minutes for our server to come and take our order. As I looked all around me, the place was cozy and clean. They are not a fancy eatery but the Korean food is authentic. For entertainment, a large screen tv was showing a chosen k drama for the evening. I'm pretty sure it was set on a Netflix series too. I ordered the seaweed spicy pork roll (kimbap) along with an order of spicy garlic chicken and fish cake soup. As I eagerly awaited my meal, I was happily enjoying my banchan. Banchan are small complimentary side dishes that come with your meal. We had delicious kimchi, marinated zucchini, seasoned mung bean sprouts, seasoned fish cake, and blanched broccoli. Oh and a bowl of mixed purple rice to enjoy along with our sides. Luckily it took less time for our meal to come. The wait time was slow for seating, as well as getting your order in and lastly trying to find someone when we were done and ready to go. They seemed short staffed as it was not the easiest to get someone's attention so that we could get our check. The food here tasted really good and you cannot be in a rush, if you are dining in. I wish I didn't have to downgrade from my previous review but the latest meal was unbelievably bad that they've given me no choice. Ambience and service aside, it's the food that is the glaring deficiency here: - Pork katsu over rice. Here's what was served: a plate, a bit of rice, a few bits of al dente broccoli, and the most unappetising, leathery, barely warm, skinny strips of pork jerky. I wouldn't even start to think of putting this on a menu for any purpose, anywhere. - Bulgogi over rice. I'm unsure what's more baffling: the blatant skimping on the protein? Impossibly dry beef? Defying tradition and standards to serve a dupbap/"over rice" in a hot pot unsolicited? When I order anything "over rice" in a Korean restaurant, I expect juicy protein with a good assortment of veggies poured over a bed of steaming, moist white rice. I was hesitant at first in trying this restaurant because of yelp reviews. Outside looking at the door you would think this is a grocery store but the place is really nice and clean. The owner/wait staff is really attentive and nice. She explained the food to us and recommended their most ordered. I ordered the S2 which is under Soup which is tofu soup with seafood. You can adjust the spiciness. I chose the medium which is really perfect for me. I enjoyed it so much. They serve side dishes with your order, kimchi, seaweed, fishcake pickled cucumber etc and they are all yummy. My friend ordered the beef ramen extra spicy and it's so good too. We also ordered SPICY & Sweet Shrimp w/ Pan-Fried Thick Udon Noodles and Vegetables, japchae, and Korean Ramen with Beed, and bulgogi which I can say are pretty good choices too. I first went to Seoul about 2 years ago and I've been dreaming about it ever since and finally got back there last week. It was everything I remembered and more. I went for lunch so I got seated right away and it was quiet which I enjoyed for a solo meal. I was given the complimentary appetizers. I quickly finished the kimchi and was offered more by my waiter which I appreciated. There's quite a few dumpling options on the appetizer menu so I asked for a recommendation from the waiter and settled on the meat dumplings. They were so good!! Crispy on the outside and the dough wasn't too thick which I sometimes find with Chinese dumplings. I then had the yuk gae jang soup which was amazing! I was able to specify my spice level (I picked 5 out of 10) and it definitely had the kick I was looking for. It was only $10.95 during lunch hours. I'm already planning my next trip back. They are generous with portions ban chan although they were cheap trying to give me small plastic container that I had to argue over to take home food in. Customer service non existent. The one lady working there is borderline rude/inhospitable. Never served water and had to ask several times for order to be taken. Food did come out quick so hence the two stars. Found LARGE EGG SHELLS in the tofu soup. Brought it up to the lady and showed her evidence. She says it's normal. I have been to 10s of Korean restaurants- it is not normal. It is a health hazard and should have been reported but I was not in a confrontational mood that day to further the conversation. The food was below expectations. The bibimbap rice was cooked just right but came cold and dry. Granted, I ordered brown rice and it could have been that it cooled off on the ride home, but it didn't seem great. The toppings on the bibimbap were also below expectations. Instead of having all cooked and warm food, they used raw lettuce with a couple steamed vegetables that were also cold by the time I arrived home 15 minutes later. The egg on top was a scrambled egg sliced into strips rather than a soft boiled egg or fried egg. Not my personal preference. The bon chon that I ordered came with all cold items to start, even the zucchini which I'd have expected warm. I'm leaving five-stars because I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they keep all the food cold and pre-made is to keep everything food-safe (thank you) and quick-to-prepare. I haven't been to many Korean takeout places so perhaps they expected me to microwave any takeout at home. Perhaps the food would have come in a stone bowl and warm if I'd eaten inside the restaurant. The atmosphere was one of the nicest of any Asian restaurants in Albany, except for the rack of packaged goods right at the don't counter. They weren't terrible, but I felt like I was being sold from the moment I walked in. I'd rather get things like Choco Pies from an Asian supermarket. It didn't detract much from my experience, and I like the foods if I were introducing others to Korean cuisine. However, it wasn't my favorite. Still, the restaurant was well laid out, with nice decor, and felt good to be inside and to which I'd bring family or friends. The service was nondescript. No issues and nothing above expected. My sister ordered dwenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew) and I ordered the Korean cold noodles (mulnangmyun). The soybean paste stew was EXTREMELY salty and very disappointing. The location in a strip mall off near I-87 and just a few minutes from the airport makes it a convenient stop. Let me start by saying the food was great. I stopped in for lunch and ordered the Jeyook Deopbop (marinated pork and vegetables on rice). It was full of flavor and heat. Loved it and loved the fact that it was only $10.95. The place was busy. A Korean movie was playing muted on a large TV and the music was piano praise music played a bit too loud. Every hymn was in the same key and the same tempo. I was having flashbacks to sitting in a back pew of First Baptist Church in 1985 listing to the pianist as the offering plate was passed around ("Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine"). Or imagining myself in the third row of a funeral chapel looking at a dead body waiting for the service to start ("Saviour, Like a Shepherd Lead Us"). Or visions of even getting a Christian massage as opposed to a new age massage accompanied by Enya music. I mean, I really like this mellow music, but it was quite loud and certainly not in the background, and it seemed a bit out of place. The server didn't say a single word to me during the entire experience except the word "spicy?" when I ordered my pork. But this is not the South, so I guess I shouldn't expect to be called "honey" and carry on a deep meaningful conversation with the wait staff. A simple "hello" or "thank you" would be nice, though. We have been watching a Korean cooking series and wanted to try going to a Korean restaurant to test out our new knowledge. We called here to confirm that they still offered eat-in services (they did) and drove over. When we got here we found the restaurant draped in plastic shower curtains (for Covid spacing) and the entranceway filled with various snacks you could purchase. I guess they had to do what was necessary to stay profitable during the pandemic. We were quickly seated and given full menus to look at. I note that their website doesn't seem to list everything that they have, and Yelp pictures of their menus are more comprehensive. Not wanting to "cheat" and order something familiar, I went with the E16 (Garlic fried chicken stir-fried with vegetables and sweet sour spicy sauce). My wife had the E12 (Grilled pork belly with vegetables and soybean paste sauce). We actually ordered an appetizer too, but the waitress forgot it and our meals proved plentiful enough. The five little banchan (side dishes) on the table were good. The cold broccoli with sesame oil was my favorite, followed by the pickles, and then the bean sprouts. I hate Kimchi and tried theirs just dip my foot in the water, and it wasn't bad. But I thought it actually didn't taste like much. I ate a lot of the fish cakes but thought that they had no flavor either. Odd, right? My wife thought that they tasted too fishy. (My entree tasted really spicy and flavorful, so it wasn't as if my taste buds weren't working). My meal came out in 9 minutes, and my wife's soon after. A big knock on them the last time I was here was the slow service, but as there were few other customers I think that helped. It looked a lot like "General Tso's chicken" (which I love) though I was hoping for something a bit more "traditional" to Korea. I had never seen a dish like this on the show. That being said, it was better than any General Tso chicken I have ever had... the sauce wasn't too sweet, it was complex and spicy, and not at all gloppy. The chicken stayed crisp to the end. It had tiny pieces of carrots, corn, green beans, and peas which I suspect came out of a freezer bag. But I like frozen veggies so I didn't mind. Onions were non-existent, which was how I ordered it! And the serving size was huge and I had to bring some home. Oddly, I had tried to order it "very hot" with the waitress but she said that wasn't an option. So, if this is considered "mild" to them I probably did alright. My wife's meal consisted of pork belly and vegetables that you wrap in lettuce with some bean paste and eat. There was tons of pork belly but a lot of it looked soft and flabby, not crispy grilled. Perhaps that is how they do it, but I only had a couple of pieces. It had little flavor as it wasn't smoked or salted or really grilled. She seemed to like it, but it didn't do much for me. The red bean paste was SALTY but when used with the lettuce and rice and pork it was fine. Were were given romaine lettuce to eat with the pork, which is hard to roll up and not at all what they featured in the Korean shows. Perhaps that was all that was available. I was entirely satisfied with my meal, though I don't know how traditionally "Korean" it was. It reminded me of General Tso chicken made with gochujang instead of ketchup and corn syrup. That being said, I tried things I didn't expect to like and didn't mind them at all. The ambiance of the place is severely compromised by the Covid restrictions, though my wife loved the Korean music on in the background. I imagine we will be back in the future. read more

Second time here. Clean environment, fast and polite service, the food was the nicest part of the visit. This time I got tonkatsu and fried whole squid. The cutlet was so crunchy and it did not get soggy with the sauce, I am really impressed. Will visit again when by the airport. read more
