Seoulville - Absolutely love the food!! summer bowl with spicy squid, (actually they dont do this) the atmosphere, staff are excellent - Korean Near Me - Somerville, New Jersey

Finally... Quality Korean food in the Somerville/Raritan area! Really, REALLY clean interior with simple yet smart decor, and very attentive, courteous wait staff. A previous reviewer touched upon expecting more banchan (sp?) -- which are the free side dishes that precede the main course/meal -- but I personally think that not only was the variety plenty diverse, but more importantly, the dishes that I was served were really quality 'appetizers' that were representative of genuine Korean cuisine. I find that in most higher-end Korean restaurants, instead of being bombarded with weak, even lackluster banchan, diners are presented with more substancial samplings which seems to be the case here. Moving on to the actual meal itself, our food was brought out fairly quickly and tasted really fresh and authentic. Very diverse, yet fairly straightforward menu that includes some Korean classics (bibimbap was delicious) as well as some more contemporary offerings (my dining partner had the Korean beef patties which were extremely flavorful and succulent). I have yet to come for lunch, but given my inaugural experience with dinner, I will no doubt be back. Take-out will be really convenient too! Relative to other Korean food establishments and other restaurants lining Main Street in general, prices are definitely reasonable. I'm not big on writing Yelp reviews but as a Korean American living in the area, I could not be more excited and satisfied with the arrival of real, authentic Korean food at a very fair price. Seoulville -- best of luck with the Grand Opening! And for diners that appreciate good Korean food, or for those that are just wanting to try the cuisine for the first time, Seoulville is no doubt a great place to stop in! Great change of pace from the current offerings that are in and around Somerville -- will be back! read more

I'm a little angsty about not having the variety of side dishes that is normally served at Korean restaurants but the service here was really good--our waiter was especially attentive and polite and our food was served quickly. The venue is a little bare but very clean. The food was undeniably delicious. Tasted like grandma's cooking.. Very fresh and flavorful. Portion sizes were appropriate. I would actually travel to eat here instead of Edison. They cook broths meat rice and vegetables very well. I don't like the Korean places in Edison, instead I typically prefer to travel into flushing ny or Midtown for my korean food. I will however, come here again because of the quality of food and authentic homecooked taste. Four stars because I wasn't pleased with the side dishes and I like a hefty portion of kimchi with my korean food. I also gave it four stars because I think their price for stews like kimchijiggae is higher than what I'm used to. read more

I was wasn't expecting much walking into Seoulville in Somerville, but after trying it for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised. The banchan (side dishes) were fresh and well made (owners used to be in the banchan business). I ordered the fried mandoo (beef) which were good (fried well, not too greasy and had decent flavor). I also ordered the soon dubu (tofu soup). I thought the flavor was a little light compared to other tofu places (like So Kong Dong next to H-Mart in Edison or Kimchihana in South Plainfield). I had to a chance to speak with owner before I left and he mentioned that they do not use MSG, which made total sense. The soup was flavorful but didn't have that salty-umami kick that I'm used to (aka MSG). He said the concept of the restaurant is 'home-style' korean food which is exactly what they delivered on. Seoulville is definitely the lighter, fresher homecooked version of Korean food which is a nice change. I'll be back to try some of the other dishes. The owner did also mention that jajangmyeon (thick noodles with black bean paste) would be on the menu seasonally, I'm looking forward to that. read more

I ordered the beef short rib soup. It came out to be sweet, the soup and the meat were both sweet. I think the cook mistaken sugar as salt. I've never had sweet meat soup before. So I took it back to the owner and he said he will make another one. I waited for another 10 min. The 2nd one came but without any utensils or rice or napkins. I didn't want bother asking for them as I've waited long enough since when I ordered the first one. I took the soup home this time. While the taste of the soup tasted right this time (as least it wasn't salty rather than sweet) but the meat in the soup was not fresh. The meat seemed to be slices of of beef rather than from actual ribs or bones, and the taste of these beef was stale and old. I spent $20 on a takeout soup that I waited for 40 min. for, and it came out to be disappointing, not the rib meat I expected but the stale old pieces of beef. I also had to find my own chopsticks and spoon and napkins since they were not provided, just because they were provided the first time. A bit cheap I'd say. Will not go there again. read more

After having a nagging craving for Korean food for the last 2 weeks or so, I found this new restaurant on yelp. It seemed to be one of the few Korean restaurants in the Bridgewater area. After a bit of convincing, my boyfriend and I ended up going for lunch on Sunday. There are a few municipal parking lots in the area, but we just ended up parking at the Shop Rite and walking over a few blocks to Seoulville. The restaurant itself is quaint. It is clean and has a very calming atmosphere. We were immediately greeted by the waiter, who was very accomodating for the rest of the meal as well. Just keep in mind that although the lunch menu says it's not available on holidays, we were informed that it was unavailable on weekends as well. Bummer. We ordered some fried beef dumplings as an appetizer to share and I ended up getting the kimchi jigae while my boyfriend ordered a spicy chicken dish served with rice. One of my main issues with the restaurant is that the banchan (side dishes) that came out were very limited and the portions were small. Having grown up in the Fort Lee area where there are predominantly Korean restaurants, I am used to having a larger spread of side dishes that are plentiful and replenished. The food at Seoulville was good though. The dumplings were fried well. My boyfriend's chicken was very fresh and tender. My kimchi jigae was a bit too spicy for my liking (odd, since I am pretty good with spicy food), but I still enjoyed the flavor. Having grown up eating Korean food in the Fort Lee area, I don't really think Seoulville is comparable in terms of portions and choices. The prices were also slightly higher than I am used to from the restaurants back in Fort Lee/Palisades Park. Overall, this restaurant is a good place to go if you are looking for some authentic Korean food in the Bridgewater/Somerville area, but there are definitely other Korean restaurants out there that I'd prefer more. If you drive a few more miles into the Edison area, you can check out Chung Sol Bat, or even the H-Mart food court. read more

After years of enduring the 40+ minute drive to Edison or Palisades Park for a Korean food fix, we're so excited that a real Korean restaurant (not a Japanese place with some Korean dishes) has opened in western/central New Jersey. We stopped in today and are happy to report that Seoulville is quite good, although with some caveats. They served us 5 banchan selections: kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fish cakes, sprouts, and scallion eggs which is about the minimum you should expect. 6-8 is probably the norm. Aside from the spicy cucumber kimchi which was great, they were all agreeable but a bit bland. I hope they mix it up and add some other choices like carmelized potatoes, black beans, tofu, seaweed, etc. A lot of people don't realize that pretty much all Korean restaurants will refill banchan at no charge, but you have to ask. Here, the server (who might be one of the owners) offered, which is a nice touch for people unfamiliar with this. We shared an order of Japchae and an order of Bulgogi. The Japchae was fantastic--sweet and fresh. It's vegetarian here--most other places will put bits of beef in it. I would absolutely order it again. We both liked the Bulgogi (think sweet, sometimes caramelized, cheesesteak meat) but didn't think it was as good as Kimchi Hana in South Plainfield or Picnic Garden in Edison (which is an all you can eat place). The presentation was great and the overall flavor was good, but there was some fattiness to the meat in some bites. I was a bit put off by a little too much ginger in the marinade which made the dish too savory for me and I kept thinking how I'd rather be eating this at Kimchi Hana. My partner disagreed and liked the flavor though he agreed it wasn't the best he'd had. I would recommend they specify on the menu that lunch specials are only available Monday through Friday. I would also suggest they consider the bento box route for lunch. It might help a lot of people unfamiliar with the cuisine decide to try it. I'm sure we'll be back, but probably not as often as I'd like given the location. Seoulville is very good but it didn't quench my desire for the excellent Korean food just another 15 minutes east. read more

Recommend highly. I had not had Korean food before and I wanted to try. Food is delicious, great variety, nice presentation and terrific service. Decor is elegant and modern. Comfortable and good spacing. Somerville is lucky to have such a wonderful variety of restaurants. read more

True, authentic Korean food at its finest at a very reasonable price. The banchan aka side dishes you can tell are made in house and of great quality. I recommend the kimchi jigae, dolsot bibimbap, king galbi, and ddeonjang jigae. Everything I've had here tastes super authentic ....I woould know because I eat Korean food on a daily basis. The staff is super friendly and sweet...always accommodating. One thing I hate about a lot of Korean restaurants are the dumbed down flavors, lack of authenticity, and hortible service.....this places seems to do the exact opposite with the bold spices and authentic flavors. Really nothing to complain about. Great spot for quick lunch or dinner. This place rocks. read more

Services, food, and environment were great! The price was a little bit expensive, however I think it's worth the price! Love their short rib soup and seafood tofu soup, and both of them came with rice and side dishes! read more

Poor choice. Usually when we order take out at other Korean restaurant, they will also pick a little complimentary kimchi. Not this place! Their price is a nit high so I expect it will reflect well on their food quality. Not at all. Food was blend and nothing special. We eat Korean food a lot and all I will say is we wont be coming back. read more

Came here for lunch with some former co-worker friends. Food was good with 6 banchan dishes. We shared a seafood scallion pancake which was pretty good. It wasn't greasy or doughy. We then had bibimbop, bulgolgi and a fried cod fillet with stir-fried vegetables. Service could use some improvement. We had to ask a couple of times for water. After we finished eating, no one cleared our dirty plates nor asked if we wanted anything else. They brought our check soon after we finished eating and before we asked for it. We lingered for another 30 minutes or so. Dirty dishes still on the table. They didn't rush us out but there were no customers waiting for a table. Decor was pretty bland but the place was neat and clean. I can get Korean food closer to home so I will not likely make a special trip to Seoulville. read more

Food was mediocre at best but the issue is the lack of protein when ordering dishes with protein. Spicy beef soup had literally 2 strips of beef the width of typical potatoe hash. The squid dish had 10 pieces if squid in it. Price of food is the most expensive compared to any of the korean restaurants in the area. So basically you get skimmed out cheapskate food and pay 35% more than typical for the same Korean dish in the area. On a positive note the owner is nice otherwise it would be getting 1 star. I will never be coming back. Take the extra 15 - 20 minutes and drive to other Korean restaurants in the area. read more

Seoulville - Where's the beef? - Korean Near Me - Somerville, New Jersey

It is a bit westernized in smart way. When I saw most of customers are not Korean, it makes sense. Dishes were neat, clean and appears to be healthier. If it were authentic Korean meal, there will be several sides (banchan), some may not appeal to non-Korean. Food was delicious and presentable with Korean Pride. read more

The service was fine, but the food was mediocre especially for the price. The 4 star ratings on here and google are not warranted. Part of the Korean food experience is all the little side dishes. For 3 people we got serving size for maybe 1 and we didn't even get asked if we wanted more. All other Korean restaurants I've been to always ask. We got the chef special octopus which was too sweet and chewy from being over cooked. read more

As the only Korean restaurant in the Somerville - Bridgewater - Raritan area, Seoulville has good food and friendly service, saving you a trip to Edison, when you crave something hot and spicy. Dolsot (hot stone pot) bibimbap (rice with vegetables, your choice of meat, an egg, and hot sauce) is wonderful, all the kimchi is good, not too vinegary, and just spicy enough. The dumpling appetizer is excellent. They say their food is authentic Korean, and while its not exactly the same as what you might get in Seoul, or even in Queens, it comes close. For New Jersey, definitely excellent. Go try it, keep them in business! (They opened in January 2015) Details - Entrees come with a free soup. Portions are not too big, prices not too high. There is no dessert. There is a lunch menu. Its BYOB. And btw, they don't take American Express. read more

My wife and I were so excited to see a new Korean restaurant had opened in Somerville. No longer will we have to drive all the way to Edison for good Korean food. We went Friday the 13th for dinner (just for good luck). The servers was very friendly! We ordered the veggie dumplings and two beef bibimbops. The dumpling noodles were delicious, and while the filling was a little under seasoned, the dipping sauce sealed the deal. Our Bibimbops had fresh veggies and lots of crispy rice to scrape off the bowl and enjoy (the best part of gopdol bibimbop!). Our only complaint was that there was maybe a tablespoon of beef for the whole bowl, which made the dish less flavorful than it could have been. Overall we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the people, the food, and the location. We will be back! read more

My husband and I have been there twice so far and it was excellent both times. The staff is very friendly and makes good recommendations to newbies. We spoke with one of the owners who was there both times, he was very accommodating and helpful. We seriously enjoyed the seafood pancake appetizer which was more than enough for two. I had the short ribs and my husband had a rice dish with beef and vegetables served in a hot rock bowl, both were excellent! You also get a plethora of condiments with your meal which were really tasty. We will add this restaurant to our rotation. read more

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a huge fan of Korean food to begin with. But we decided to give Seoulville a shot after seeing its high rating on Yelp. I was pleasantly surprised with my dining experience. The restaurant itself is fairly tiny. The service was good - fast, friendly, and helpful. We ordered the sweet and spicy chicken wings as an appetizer. They were so good that we ended up putting in another order of them! For dinner, I ordered the stir fried chicken in a spicy sauce. I was a little nervous of how spicy it would be. The server stated it would be a 2 out of 5 on a scale of spiciness. I found my meal to be spicer than the server's description; however, it was still tolerable and enjoyable. I should also note that entrees come with six complimentary side dishes. All of the food is really flavorful. Oh, and an added bonus is that the restaurant is BYO. read more

Came to visit Seoulville during the Summer Festival. This place exceeded our expectations in many ways! First, this place is BYOB! We ordered the crispy Korean fried wings which came 5 pieces to an order which was less than I expected for $8 but was delicious and plenty for just us two (me and my fiance). Then we ordered the Korean Fried kimchi rice which came topped with an egg and the Galbi (beef short ribs) served with onions, mushrooms, and jalepenos underneath which were extremely satisfying, tender, and flavorful. We were also given a "starter soup" which was spicy broth, tofu, peppers, and fish which was surprising very very good! It wasn't on the menu but we enjoyed it very much. Dinner also comes with banchan and the variety was very good; I especially liked the potatoes and the steamed egg! We were very full and even had leftovers to bring home. Last but certainly not least we were given a dessert soup/punch made of persimmon, cinnamon, sugar, and lemon which was served cold and was super refreshing! It was very nice and light treat and a perfect way to round out the meal. The staff were very friendly and open to explaining how to eat the food and what entrees consisted of. If you've never had Korean I would say don't be afraid and come here to try it out! I will definitely come back here again as we do not live too far from Somerville! read more

Restaurant is nice and clean. Really great service. Friendly staff, was able to accommodate and made food more/less spicy. Got the haemul sundubu from the lunch menu. I absolutely love Seoulville and firmly believe that it is a hidden gem in Somerville. The family who runs the restaurant is incredibly kind and friendly, and the service is great. In regards to the food and drink, it's absolutely wonderful and BYOB. My mom and I eat there a few times a month and have tried multiple items on their menu. We've tried the bimbimbop, eggplant appetizer, stir fried squid, spicy cheesy chicken, and more - and we have never been disappointed.
