Private parking, clean simple atmosphere, and the owner is absolutely lovely, her kindness and skills reminding me of the Korean moms that introduced me to delicious Korean food as a kid. Their homemade gochujang and kimchi are the best I've ever tasted, gracing every spicy dish with their rich and adequately spicy sweetness. It's not a do-it-yourself BBQ, but the stone bowl dishes like Bibimbap and the pork bone soup I had were excellent, as were the free bonchon apps. The food was delicious, real wholesome Korean food from your umma or Halmoni. My girlfriends and I shared starters. The soy fried chicken was divine, crispy, juicy and tender. Their private lot has ample parking spaces, which made it a breeze to park. I came here with a friend on a weekday night and there was a steady flow of patrons trickling in, but never too many that it would become crowded or noisy. Everyone had their socially distanced tables. The interior was thoughtfully decorated and quaint- almost felt like we were in a teahouse in Asia. I enjoyed the feel of it! We ordered spicy ddukbokki for the table as appetizers, and then dol sot bibim bob ( beef for my friend and tofu for me). She also later got fried chicken as takeout. The quality of food is not the greatest. I can still feel the taste of a horrible oil they use for cooking. My dish was lukewarm and the veggies on it were cold when brought to our table. My husband's dish was sizzling hot. The food was brought to our table minutes after we ordered that is clear that is premade. The place looks worn out. There are boxes and supplies everywhere. The decor is very unassuming and you'll probably question yourself when you pull into the parking lot (like we did the first time) BUT after coming here twice, all I want to do is rave about this place. The hostess/ waitress is an absolute riot! She's cheery, has jokes, and offered us so many freebies recently when we came for Valentine's Day. Between her and the food, it's hard to pick a true star. After we ordered we got delicious crispy fried dumplings on the house. We ordered the Galbi and it was flavorful and tender and juicy and came out sizzling. We also got the gochujang pork belly and it had a nice kick to it and was also tender. The free homemade sorbet was served in a lemon and was out of this works. Seoulite's is a hidden gem! I hosted my son's first birthday/doljanchi here and it was absolutely perfect. It was a very reasonable price to rent out the entire restaurant for 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon with buffet lunch. The restaurant is already cute so I only needed to add a few extra decorations. We had 30 adults and 5 kids, and the size of the restaurant felt just right (Probably up to 35 adults still comfortable). There was also plenty of parking, plus easy stroller access with a ramp, and high chairs available. The owner was absolutely wonderful, so sweet and communicative both before the event and on the day of. She helped make sure everything ran smoothly. The food was delicious! Even my mom said she would come back for the food, and you know a compliment like that from an asian mom is legit. The owner was really friendly and attentive to us (we were the only ones there though so take that with a grain of salt). The food was great and savory as well. The price was pretty expensive though ($90 for 3 people) so keep that in mind. Also, you could clearly see the shipment boxes in the back of the restaurant. We ordered spicy and garlic-soy K-Pop Fried Chicken (KFC) wings and both were very tasty. Then their Seafood Pancake was just perfect- crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with bits of squid, shrimp, and scallion. Then we devoured the best and most balanced bulgogi I ever had with salty/sweet/savory beef so tender. This came with ample and yummy banchan (side dishes) and rice. For a complimentary dessert, they gave us a Bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastry) filled with red bean paste and vanilla ice cream. Reel-y good!!!! Plenty of heart and Seoul. The spicy pork and squid was tasty with the right amount of heat and the beef dishes was very flavorful (they were some of my favorites). My new favorite for excellent Korean food - there was even an article about them in the NY Times! The kalbi was especially delicious and possibly the best I've ever had - it was perfectly marinated and flavored and was so tender, it fell off the bone. The K-pop fried chicken was also great - different than BonChon and in my opinion, way better. The spicy was not very spicy and it was crispy and not greasy. The ban chan were great and seemed very fresh. We had a very nice dining experience - we were the only people dining in and the owner was really fun to chat with. Seoulite is a family run restaurant specializing in home style Korean food. We happened to be in Berkeley Heights and were craving some hot food on a cold, rainy day. It was a quiet day due to the weather, but the owner greeted us warmly and her cheery demeanor definitely made the day less gloomy! We ordered the tempura which was nice and crispy; the dol sot bibimbap, which was huge and delicious; and a spicy stew, which was a lot more flavorful than other Korean spots I've tried in the Edison area. They also serve you banchan and might I say that Seoulite has some of the best kimchi I've ever had! My husband was also a big fan of the anchovies. All we got was fried broccoli. No taste whatsoever. Might have been nice if they used a variety of different vegetables. Vegetable Dumplings - mushy and soggy. Tofu Bibimbob - really really bland and very limited veggies. Service was really bad the night we went. Service: 1. The restaurant was empty but she gave us no time to look at the menu, when we asked for a minute she immediately gave an attitude. 2. We ordered 3 dishes first to share since it was our first time there and wanted to taste their food. When she was taking our order she said "Only 3 dishes? She said "I will only give you the side dishes one time cannot refill since you only ordered 3 dishes." at this point we were done so we didn't care despite the side dishes are always free and refillable. 3. Very good fried rice with spam and wings. Difficult to find items for this area that are fully legit. However, service and hours of operation are beyond wacky. They seem to randomly close at times with no notice and have never once answered their phone when I've called to check in to make sure they are open. So, as good as they were the one time I found them open, I'm not driving to Berkeley heights to get turned around again. Would totally go back otherwise, but this operation clearly is not concerned with their performance. They had an entire dining room dedicated to unpacking boxes of dry storage. Maybe someone here is very wealthy, likes good food and needs to claim some losses on their taxes? An elegant and classy Korean restaurant with delicious, home-cook tasting dishes! We came a few times before for lunch, always enjoy their food and the owners candid and straight-shooting attitude, she is frank, droll and subtly amusing, very nice to customers. She claims she cooked all of her dishes and they are quite savory. Check out the attached photos for the lunch meal we ordered, from think they are great, a bit on the pricy side but most Korean restaurants, that is authentic ones tend to be this way because they also provide little side plates for free; like kimchi and marinated cucumbers, fish cakes and ect. All the dishes came out in time and fresh, we had a beef and spicy squid bimbimba, and their super delicious beef ribs, so good.
