This is a pretty standard Sephora found in the Green Hills Mall. The staff are quite attentive, but sometimes I got the feeling that they were following me for one reason or another. I don't want to speculate, so I'll just leave that observation there. Sephora's variety of makeup, perfumes, haircare and skincare are pretty unrivaled, and I love that they have been dipping their toe in Korean skincare the last couple of years. However, the lines are crazy long at this location despite the three or so staff members at the front checking people out. I've been a beauity insider for years now, and I find their deluxe samples are always available at this location. Despite the terrifying trend of gen-alpha taking over Sephora nationwide, this one seems relatively unperturbed, at least in the evening. Parking is mall parking which can be pretty crowded during rush hours on the weekend. I recommend coming in during a less busy weekday. read more

This gh location has a lot of Uncle Toms working for them. There were too many other customers that weren't like me in there for a worker to hightail, literally almost ran to me as soon as I picked up one lip gloss. The absolute worst Sephora I have ever been to! Every time I go there the workers are unfriendly and I have to search for someone to help me. Today and I went in and the manager, Melinda, was AWFUL! She is one of those people who smile and say sorry, there is nothing I can do for you here and just blink her eyes. Did not care about our issue at all. If I was head of Sephora, I would definitely put her back in training to learn how a manager should speak to their customers. One of the employees didn't even know her name? How do you not know your managers name? Anyways, I completely understand that I can't return a product but it was the way she talked to me and my friend that really made us upset. Basically what happened is we bought a perfume sample kit where once you try the sample you get a coupon to redeem for a "full size". We asked the employee there what does "full size" mean and she took the box, went somewhere and came back and said we can redeem for a 3.4 oz. So we purchased the sample box. I get home and find out that you can only redeem for a 1oz. So we brought it back and told the manager and she said we can't return it and that we should read the box and not always go by what an employee says. Horrible customer service in my opinion. On Sunday I went in to buy a Too Faced eyeliner. The robust cashier that day was very mean. I greet her and say hi, no response. But it got worse after I wanted to pay cash. My two teenage daughters were shopping in this Sephora today and approached by a worker, they believe named Julie, and accused of shoplifting. She walked up to them and started saying something along the lines of "give the face mask back. Police are coming". She kept repeating herself while the girls continued to look at her confused. A black employee then came over to them and again said "just give us the face mask. The police are going to be here". My girls are black so I guess these dumb employees think a fellow black person may have more success with accusing them of shoplifting. When my daughter showed them the only thing she had in her back pocket was her book she had dropped while in the store and stuck back in her pocket, they looked at her and said "oh". No apologies and then continued to follow them around the store. After reading a review of another customer who has felt racially profiled in this store, I am even more disgusted. Appears to be an ongoing issue. My daughter struggles with social anxiety and is still extremely upset hours later. We will definitely be taking our business elsewhere. I will follow up with the store in person, but wanted to make shoppers aware of the treatment my girls were subjected to in this store. read more

This review is based off my experience yesterday getting my make up done by Araz. I hope I didn't misspell/ get her name incorrect!!! By far the best makeup I've had and so very happy I was referred to her for my 30th birthday!! As a hairstylist/ esthetician I'm a bit picky. I showed her a photo of the look I was going for, and let her do her magic. This girl is a bad ass! I can't thank her enough and just wish Sephora allowed their employees to get tipped for their makeup applications. The products they sell are nice but I'm more focused on their employees. When I went to the store this past weekend, I asked an employee for help and the young woman rolled her eyes at me and did not hide her annoyance as she asked me what did I want. I sensed that she was bothered by me asking her for help so I ended up putting my items back and leaving the store altogether- if she was rude when I approached her I can only imagine how she would act if I continued requesting her help. All I wanted to do was schedule a makeover that came with a gift card I had received, but apparently I will never be getting it. If you know your way around make-up then all you need to do is go in, grab your products, and check out (the lines move fairly quickly). This Sephora is pretty good, but they are usually out of stock of products that I really want. This can be new products or semi-new products, but they fly off the shelves pretty quick at this location and they don't seem to have too many other products in back stock. The employees here are pretty helpful, which is great. They will always try their best to introduce you to products and help you find what you are looking for. read more

This Sephora is laid out nicely. Some of their stores can overwhelm me; they tend to be very busy and feel crowded. This one had a nice flow. I was given a sample of a fragrance I was admiring. I'll start with the positive: Sephora has an excellent section of beauty products and the store is generally well organized. I really, really hate to give negative reviews of sales associates. I've worked retail and sometimes people are just having off days, and that's ok. Having said that. I have had a negative experience every. single. time. i've shopped at Sephora (and I've been there many times!). I generally try to find things myself so I don't have to bother them. Last time I was at Sephora I asked a sales associate where to find a particular lipgloss and she rudely looked at me, said it was out of stock, and walked away. I am the last person to go to when it comes to beauty and fashion advice, however I recently decided that I am indeed a girl, and I do need to be taking care of my skin. Since I work in Green Hills, I window shopped in the Green Hills Mall before finally deciding to check out Sephora. Pros: Sephora has SO MANY different options when it comes to brands and selection, so if you like something in one brand but something else in another brand, chances are that Sephora has it. Prices are competitive or better than department stores in the mall. Sephora also offers several sets of products that I haven't seen elsewhere. Finally, their Beauty Insider program is pretty cool if you're a frequent shopper and like free stuff. Cons: OMG Please stop with the constant greetings! It's cool to be greeted when I enter the store, but it's not cool to be greeted by the same person again and again within the frame of a few minutes. I seriously want to wear a shirt that says, "You've already greeted me. I'll ask you if I have any questions. Please don't ask again!" There is such a thing as Customer Service overboard, and Sephora has pushed beyond that every time I've entered the store. It really makes me reconsider going there just to browse new products. I love Sephora, but I almost have to set a timer in there because eventually all the smells will make me start sneezing and get lightheaded. I always feel a little overwhelmed by this store, although I love looking here. Maybe I just can't deal with that many choices of mascara. However, Sephora has brought brands of make-up and body care to Nashville that you formerly just saw in magazines or when you travelled. It's nice to be able to go and buy Philosophy and Venom and Benefit all in the same place. The main attraction of Sephora is being able to try on make-up without anyone pressuring you to spend $200 while they slop $400 of stuff on your face. I love that they have self-applicators and face wipes available and you can just go through and try things and have fun. You know when you feel guilty when you open the lipstick packages at Target or the grocery store? Well you don't have to at Sephora because they encourage that and it's kind of like a grocery store because you can just pick your own. Salespeople will help you if you ask, but they don't pressure you; they just let the selection choose for itself. read more

I found out that the nail color I wanted was out of stock and that "it was a crazy weekend". Well, if you want quality time with an employee, shorter lines, finding more things in stock, then I suggest going in on a weekday/night. That's what I'll do next time! Once associate helped me pick out an eyebrow pencil (Sephora house brand; perfect for my blonde brows & is also very precise-$12), one gave a fantastic fragrance recommendation when I mentioned I like hints of vanilla (Kat Von D's new fragrance, "Saint" - I got the rollerball for $18) and I had a pleasant conversation with the girl working the register when she recognized my area code as being from Memphis. Beautifully organized store & overall great experience! Also picked up some concealer (Sephora house brand) and a travel size of the Urban Decay oil-free makeup setting spray. The super-store - but not in a Wal-Mart way - for cosmetics and toiletries. I always enjoy going into Sephora, but if I'm scheduled to be anywhere, my best bet is not to venture into the store until afterward. Sephora has such a plethora of items, and I have experienced a very un-fun time feeling rushed to zip through the store because I had to be somewhere! If you know exactly what you want and where it is, go head and pop in. But if you're like me and like to look, and try, and look some more, try lots more, then look one last time, I'd suggest shopping at Sephora when you are NOT under any time restraints. Sephora is the one-stop-shop for mid to high-end cosmetics - Benefit and Urban Decay to Yves St. Lauren. It's great to be able to compare a whole bunch of products next to each other. Prices on the higher end items aren't any better or worse than anywhere else, so it's just expected that one's Sephora receipt for make-up just isn't going to compare to that of Walgreens. Sephora gets HUGE points for supplying an endless supply of lip and lash wands and eye shadow applicators so I can take it upon myself to try on everything in the store (except don't accidentally use the "alcohol" bottle instead of the "make-up remover" bottle on your lips like I did today. Ouch!). I rarely buy drugstore cosmetics anymore because of the forbiddenness of trying it on in the store. Other than the opportunity to try on make-up before I buy it, I think where Sephora really wins is in their unique box sets. They'll sell a box set of mascaras - 10 little bottles of different brands of quality mascara, for a bargain of a price. Or they'll do the same with lip glosses, or perfumes. It's pretty cool to take home so many different versions of something. One can compare and contrast! This isn't just a women's store, either. There are colognes and nice men's products. I haven't perused it as extensively as the make-up, but Sephora sells high-end skin care and shampoos as well as hair irons and blow dryers. It's nice they have a points program, too. Only 2 out of all the rest of the employees we encountered were actually trying to help us and the rest looked bothered when we asked for help and/or samples. Both my mother-in-law and I spent well over $150 each so what is to you if we ask for a skin care sample? Is it coming out of your paycheck? I don't think so. It's your damn job so make sure you do it well. More specifically the "makeup artist" who has a pixie boy cut hair. She just handed us our sample like ugh here. So rude!! Ok, actually I just have been here numerous times with the wife and since I purchased her an item I'm now on their mailing list for all eternity and get free Birthday supplies. I think when they see me walking in they probably can tell from 60 feet that I do not use any of their product, nor am I going to be purchasing anything most likely, but the attendants are always nice. I find the prices a little crazy, however I'm told that's a reasonable price for looking awesome, so I'll leave it be. I'm addicted to the Bare Essentials line and it all started here. The ladies are really helpful. One took me under her wing, taught me how to use the mineral line and made me beautiful. I don't think they require to buy a minimum for the make over either. I haven't had as much help with fragrances. The sales girls aren't so good at personalizing. Every time I visit this store I feel as though I am being racially profiled (no doubt). The sales staff constantly trails me as soon as I walk in, and they watch you in a very, very suspicious manner as though I am going to take something without paying, lol.... Ex., I asked a question to a sales person who had trailed me since I walked in the store, so I decided to put her to work (older woman, dark shoulder length hair, short in statue, lots of makeup/glitter on her face, a mess) and ask her about a certain type of lip gloss, based on her tone of voice she was very disinterested in helping me and acted as though she didn't know what I was talking about but she continued to watch me until I walked out of the store. I've been to my share of Sephoras across the country and without a doubt, more customers service training is needed at this location and if I could give no stars for this rating, I would. The management should do a better job in training their sales force with regards to customer service, respecting all people regardless of race or ethnic background. Furthermore, I'm sure if I felt this way others have felt it too, which is shameful and disrespectful on many levels. In short, my experiences have been less than favorable at this location and they've just lost what would have been a very good customer. I really want to leave 5 stars, because I've had such good experiences at this Sephora. Unfortunately, there is one employee who bothers me so much that I have reconsidered purchasing just because he is so snobbish. This gentleman is always in the perfume section. He seems very knowledgeable, which I like, but he has such a strange and uppity attitude when speaking to customers and hovers when I am browsing. This Sephora is nice. Most of the employees are extremely helpful. I went in with a friend on a Saturday afternoon to have a makeover. I came in with no makeup on and kind of "dingy" and I don't feel like all of the employees took me seriously. I came in with a hefty budget, ready to spend money on products that I feel in love with but because I wasn't "made up" already and dressed to the nines I feel as if I was judged a bit. Awaz and Emily were great- they helped my friend and I. However, there was a tall blonde woman (who I believe was a shift leader or manager of some soft; she was directing the beauty bar schedule) that seemed annoyed by our questions. She didn't seem helpful, and didn't seem to even want to help other guests. When someone asked her a question, she rolled her eyes. Worst customer service I have ever experienced at a Sephora store. I said "excuse me" to several employees to get some help and they all looked past me and went to go chat with their coworkers. When I finally did get help she put in the least possible effort to match me with a foundation. She put two different foundations on my hand and didn't even blend them in and just picked one and walked away. I decided the one she chose was too light so asked another employee for their opinion. It appeared they were out of the next color and she didn't even bother to open up the drawer to see if they had any more... again I had to ask her to check. She then suggested I order it online but didn't even try one bit to try to find me another color similar or order it online for me. Let's be clear....I loathe makeup, so this may not be the review for you. But I have this 'job' thing where I need to look like a grown up and that requires my skin to have only one seamless color and my lips to not be chapped. I have been to this store on a number of occasions and I was daunted by the prices and the hipster super polished looking staff. "No" I scream in my head, "I don't want a basket. I don't know what the heck I want!" The key to success here is to go on a weeknight and work with a color specialist from the get-go. I met Crystal who was crazy nice but really wore more makeup than I would put on in a year (it looked great on her though). I explained that was not my style and she TOTALLY hooked me up with the right products, showed me how to use them and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't want. I look the way I want, my super finicky skin doesn't freak out and the world is a good place. The skincare specialists were VERY knowledgeable and super friendly! They directed me to great skin care and cosmetics lines; not just expensive stuff, but products that work. I'm originally from Northern VA and Sephora is hands down my favorite store. The customer service is always exceptional. With that said, the customer service at the Sephora in Green Hills Mall was definitely the worst I have experienced for a Sephora. I walked in and was not greeted by anyone (very unusual), but it was the day after christmas so I understand I guess everyone was busy. I wanted to try a sample of a foundation I had been eyeing and after looking around for a couple of minutes, saw two employees in the corner talking amongst themselves. I politely said "excuse me" and asked if one of them could help me with a sample. She walked with me to the display and said she has to call someone over to help me with the sample. She talked into her walkie talkie and told me someone would be right there. I said ok and she went right back to the other attendant in the corner to continue talking. I waited a few more minutes and then finally just left. The only other attendants I saw were behind the counter and busy. I guess maybe the two who I so rudely interrupted were just too busy to help. Either way, it was reason enough to just leave the store and go to macys or dillards makeup counter or even just wait until I got to a hometown Sephora. One of my favorite things about going into a sephora is the fact that I can talk about makeup with the people who work there and ask for advice, recommendations, help, etc. I left 2 stars because it is STILL sephora and the size of the store was nice. read more
