Either the manager or one of the employees was clearly following me around the store. Every isle I went into she appeared right behind me pretending to organize stuff. It's obvious she was racially profiling me. It made me very uncomfortable when all I was doing was minding my own business shopping for makeup. Like I get that they are trying to stop theft but I didn't see anyone else getting followed and I wasn't doing anything sketchy that would give any reason to be suspicious of me besides literally just being black apparently. Like I live 2 blocks away and I shop at this location often. There was absolutely no reason to treat me that way and it's frustrating. Came into this store to return an item. Old woman at the counter, Shannon, stated the item could not be returned because it was ordered via a delivery app despite the store's policy clearly stating that all orders placed through delivery apps are returned in-store (delivery apps do not accept returns). The old woman lied, pretended to contact an associate, continued to lie, hoping I would just leave. I quoted the store's return policy to her and refused to leave until she processed the return. Seeing that I wasn't going anywhere, she then processed it without any issue and made a snide remark as I left. Not sure what's going on here - normally never have any issues. I'm a Rouge Member and frequently shop at different locations in different states. This by far was the grossest location I've been to. The product testers are all nearly empty and sticky. The product displays are a wreck and disorganized. I needed a Fenty Skin product and they didn't have it. The FS skin display here is a pathetic end cap instead of its own row like in most stores. Not one employee greeted me or asked if I needed help but plenty were having their own conversations. Also this location had more kids running around than other locations so. Some kids were playing hide and seek running around - parents or store employees did nothing. 99th & Columbus or Columbus Circle locations are better options on the West Side. read more

I was so excited to come to this location because I knew Lady Gaga came out with a new line of blushes. I knew I needed to come in and purchase the Watermelon Bliss. I didn't get to try it yet, but I'm excited to give it a go. I love when she comes out with new things for Sephora. She has the best packaging and they have the best Gaga section at this location. I don't have any pictures from my previous visit but I bought the Prada Paradoxe perfume in a small size. They still had some of the old perfumes that I wanted to buy but for some reason, they were discontinued even though the example bottles were still on the shelf. I also ended up buying another one of Gaga's lip oils and her setting powder. I tried applying for a Sephora credit card even though I already have a membership card, I don't know if I'll get approved for it but it was nice to get some mask and Dior foundation samples. It's dangerous for me to be so close to this location honestly. I love how helpful everyone is here too. Dogs are allowed just for a heads-up. read more

Pros: convenient location and decent selection Cons: no one greeted Black potential customers nor were they offered help. I watched as a salesperson saw me come in, said nothing and walked by me, and offered people of other complexions help. Sephora Of course everyone knows sephora, Known for make up! I don't know anything about make up and not much interested about what they sell in sephora. First time I came here to get gift cards, second time to buy christmas presents but since I have no idea what it was so I had to look around but honestly the workers that works there is AFTER YOU! Every 2 min they be like "oh do you need help" it really got me annoyed that I just rushed out and brought anything. The both time I went the person that was in front of me when she was at the register the cash register asked her if she wants to sign up for their loyalty program but when it was my turn she NEVER ASKED ME. Let us shop peacefully instead of coming up to us every few minutes saying do we need help. Please make us comfortable next time! Shout out to Amy!! Hands down the best Sephora beauty associate I've ever interacted with. I was picking up my online orders at this location and stopped to check out those Patrick Ta lip liners on my way out. One associate who also happened to be at the counter asked me if I had any Qs, and I asked a question and that's it. Good, chill, just ur normal day at Sephora. And then Amy swing by, big smile great energy, and we just started chatting like friends. She cleaned and sanitized the products for me, watched me try products on and gave me advices. And we talked about other products that I'm interested in and she did a cream eye shadow demo for me as well. No pressing, no impatience, no awkwardness, just the experience that lives up to Sephora standards. I will definitely come back! read more

I just went to this location today to get myself body lotion and to get someone else a Christmas gift. The store has good hours during the week (9:00 AM-9:00PM) which is rare for Sephora since most of their stores do not open before 10:00 AM (except for this location and the one on 86th and Lexington that open before 10:00). I entered the store and was greeted by a Sephora beauty associate (I didn't get her name) but she didn't bother me while I was browsing the store which I liked. Since I was literally the only one in the store I could browse without pressure from the beauty associate. I eventually got my body lotion ($17.00, from the Sephora Collection) and the Christmas gift and checked out and left the store. I hadn't been to this particular location since 2017 (my other Yelp review) but I was happy with what I had purchased :-) Overall: 10/10 read more

This is my favorite Sephora store basing this review on Costumer Services. I have probably visited all of the Sephora stores in NYC and sometimes have to complaint because when you are actually looking for help, the ladies on the floor run away from you and I don't like to feel like I am wasting my time or that my money has no value. Well, every time I have visited this particular store, and I have come a few times because it's close to my home, every single employee here provides the help I need if I have questions and always help me finding the best products for my skin or locate any item I look for. I don't really wear a lot of make up but like to use good stuff when I do it. I have also a lot of concerns about my weird skin cause it's super oily but also super sensitive and that combination is annoying as heck. If there's anything I have to buy at Sephora, this would be my to go store. A personal short story to give this review more love: On July 4th of this year I was flying to my Home country for vacation. I did not have foundation powder and stopped here on my way to the airport to get it and bring it with me to DR. Unfortunately, they did not have my color cause it's very limited and it's only available online (that's how I had purchased it in the past). The lady who helped me was super patient and generous and help me find a different brand but almost the same product and the color I needed for my skin. I rushed my way to the cashier and got some travel size Kat Von D lips kit and a travel size mascara. The cashier saw me getting sweaty and I started to move my hands in fan motion so she asked me if I was really hot cause the ac was considerably high. I explained to her that I was running from the car to the store, also running to find the product I needed and took more time than I thought I would take. Then, she asked me why was I in such a rush and I explained to her that I was omw to the JFK and made a quick stop cause I needed to get my powder. The manager, who was listening to our convo, opened his eyes in a shock and asked the cashier to give me a bad full of goodies cause only a sephora loyal insider like me would rather be late to her flight than forget to get her makeup at her fave store. Im giving this Sephora a four stars because they finally got the store together where they have a front counter. Before the set up was strange. You would be in a corner, or in the middle of an idle, making a purchase. Today I went and they had it together like how the stores normally are. They also had some really cool awards selection, that most stores dont have. You would have to buy something online to get a good award or sample product. I am pleased with the set up and flow of the store. If you were there before and hated the set up, well now you can have a better shopping experience and the staff is always willing to help you. Should have been a nice addition to the Upper West Side. Store is bright, but stocked with a limited selection of products. Where it fails: * The location is extremely small and feels like a dollar store. * The fragrance department has a VERY limited selection of fragrance is available to purchase and take home. The store is set up to encourage shoppers to shop elsewhere (i.e. any other online service) * The trademark tinted mirrors that don't allow customers to see the true colour of the makeup are still in place .. I was told a few years back that smoke tinted mirrors would no longer be used in all the new stores for more efficient shopping, but sadly Sephora doesn't care about consumers, just their money. * Store is ALWAYS dirty, messy. * Staff is too bored at their jobs to help customers, and would rather stand around and complain to each other about shoppers loud enough to be heard by everyone in the store. * The lack of quality product lines for consumers to choose from. (Original Opening Review * Check out registers -- the company has moved to the tiny phone sized pocket machines so that every clerk can ring customers up. The down side to this is, that the consumer hopes they get a skilled texting person to ring them up. It also looks tacky watching the clerks walk around with the 'mobiles' in their hand like they are carrying a personal cellular phone. Sort of makes it feel like 'Welcome Kmart Shoppers' and not an upscale location where people are pampered. ) UPDATE TO THE REGISTER COMMENT: Updated Check out registers - Sephora finally listened to customers and put a real counter in the store with an actual register so customers don't have to stand and hold merchandise for clerks to scan before paying. Customers are not employees who should be forced to stand and hold merchandise to be scanned while forced to pay rather than be paid for this abuse. *Update* Popped in a few times to really figure out if the location changed. New manager is really on top of things and seems like she runs a tight ship. Plus the upgrade of the store is great! Shopping there is a wonderful experience now. I personally don't like being helped unless I ask for it, if that makes sense. I do like if I look lost or have to get someone's attention I am acknowledged. They all come up to you and ask if you need anything but aren't super in your face. Also since I've been back I haven't noticed any groups of associates just hanging out. I purchased Sephora brand eyeliner. It was so terrific, I bought 2 more, just so I could have them in case they were discontinued. Two were great. Creamy, easy to apply, long lasting. One was dry and impossible to apply. I brought it back to exchange it but since I was not in their system, they wouldn't allow it. (I avoid registering with vendors - not my choice for them to data mine. But that's not the point of the review. ) Their product line is inconsistent and should be avoided. read more

Stopped by the other day to pick up an item. I'm assuming it's relatively new because it was probably the cleanest Sephora I've ever been to. Pretty well stocked in my opinion. The only thing I didn't like were the check out kiosks (?). Instead of having a line, they just have individual registers scattered around the store. Like built into the product display aisles. I'm not a fan because if you end up at one kiosk that ends up moving slowly due to a return or something, you stand there wondering if you should take a chance, step out of the line, and head to another aisle. Also, all I could think about was how much it'd suck if the place was packed, since the lines would block certain displays. Others have mentioned that they have people walking around with those phones that can take credit cards but I find the checkout process for those aren't as speedy as when someone rings me up at an actual register. In addition, I went there around 6pm and for some reason, I didn't see that many Sephora employees walking around with those. Location-wise, it's pretty nice. I'm usually not on the west side but it's close to a few subway stations which makes it convenient to get to. read more

Have been in this Sephora probably every 2 weeks for the past year. It is in a convenient location for me, and the staff is typically friendly, but those are the pros. It is consistently dirty (makeup remover stations always a mess), displays disheveled, and multiple times I have picked up a product that ended up being used on the inside of the packaging. Things have been stocked in the wrong locations on the display and things are so frequently out of stock (understood that this is a global issue, but it seems to always be the case at this store). It is just never a pleasant shopping experience honestly because I know I'm going to be sifting through messiness. I expect more from Sephora...and also the store is never even that busy compared to other Manhattan locations...just things to be aware of before you go here. I had an appointment with the fabulous Nayasha yesterday for a custom make-over. She was really one of the most terrific, detail-oriented and sensitive make-up artists I have every had in a long time. She paid close attention what kind of skin type I had, my usual skin-care routine and what I was looking for this day- in my case, a make-up session for a photo shoot for a concert promotion. She was patient, funny and thoughtful. I would highly recommend getting a session with her if you want a make-over from Sephora. You would do well with Nayasha! read more

I've been to many different Sephora stores and this location is pretty well stocked. Tiffany was amazing! She helped me find all of the products that I was looking for. If they weren't on the floor she called to check if they were downstairs or at a different location. She also had good recommendations and informed me of Sephora promotions at the time (perk facial with purchase). Def will come to this location again. Well stocked and great staff. The line can be a bit long but it's Sephora and I went around the after work hour. Around 12pm its not that busy. read more

Very Rude customer service. I was picking between a Bobbi Brown and guerlain bronzer and couldn't figure out the shade that would be best for my skin tone. The employee I asked to help was very condescending and did not help to match my skin tone and instead told me I would be the darkest shade because I am dark. Obviously I wasn't going to pick the lighter bronzers since I am a medium olive skin tone NOT to mention the assistance I literally asked for was for her help me pick a shade that would work for my skin. Also, if I'm the darkest shade, what bronzer would you recommend to people with deep skin tones? None of it made sense and the attitude and tone on top of it all was too much for me and I had to walk out. I went to Sephora on the UWS on Columbus later and from the recommendation of a lovely associate there, purchased a beautiful medium tone Becca bronzer. read more

The sales associate that I asked for help seemed to be pretty knowledgeable but her demeanour was sort of condescending and unfriendly for no reason . I was looking at a Kérastase hair mask to try out but the associate said the brand is not good (????) and recommended a bumble product and a living proof mask . Both products are horrible in my hair . One is recommended for medium to thick hair ( I informed her mine was very fine) and the mask is even more heavily scented than Kérastase ( that was her main argument as to why Kérastase products are not good ). I did end up purchasing the products she recommended only to return them after. Go figure why make such bad recommendations and be that unfriendly at the same time . Her main point was that if I'm looking to purchase something new it means I'm not happy with what I have ( I informed her I use Kérastase products at the moment ) and I should go for something different which is entirely not true . I enjoy having different products and alternating them . This kind of service just sort of totally ruined my shopping experience . The thing about this Sephora location is the passion.. and it starts from the manager JONATHAN.. and transcends to employees.. ( Chris.. ) I have found that generally Sephora employees will tell you "anything looks good".. but under Jonathan's management .. this is truly an educational exoerience.. This Sephora is convenient, because it's close to home and carries a good variety of brands. However, they racially profile and follow you around the store, EVERY. TIME. Like seriously? My boyfriend and I were shopping around- we picked up a basket right away- he was buying me a bunch of birthday gifts and you know that sh*t isn't cheap. I'm talking $68 foundations.. $34 glosses.. we obviously came to shop around and spend money and we were uncomfortable and annoyed by the employees very obviously tailing us around the store even after i told them i knew what i was looking for. at one point the manager even followed us! it's really unsettling to turn around and see the same person right behind you. there were a bunch of white girls shopping around... yet we were consistently surrounded by at least two employees. even when we got to the cashier to buy almost $300 worth of makeup (this is a frivolous spend! we have money to blow!) she made it a very drawn out process of meticulously checking all the bills to make sure they were real. also didn't offer or mention any rewards even tho i have like 2000+ points. i used to work retail so i know how it goes... but we're still profiling? so trashy. read more

I have found many Sephora stores lacking in customer service and engaging in discriminatory practices, including this location. Service associates seem unfriendly, and security watches you suspiciously. I am sorry to say that after several uncomfortable experiences, I take my beauty budget elsewhere. read more
