Run by an inept, self-appointed Board of Directors who ousted former volunteers. They have shortened train journey times yet kept prices the same. They don't have a solid base of new, correctly trained volunteers to run the trains yet have an operating schedule and are taking reservations.

We chose the open air car since the weather was going to be sunny and warm. lots of water and stone and picturesque views along the way. The conductors were in their old school tradition al uniforms. the town around the station was artistic and architecturally fantastic. parking was expensive but the tickets were fairly priced for the ride. The ride was about an hour and a half long. Dogs were welcome so we brought ours along for the trip. he even got he's own ticket which I thought was cute and exceptional. I would definitely go again. The town was outrageous. WE had a special day here in this place.

We ended up swapping seats across the aisle with our travel companions. Take the starboard side for best viewing. With the cost of the train, parking, and only one side getting good scenery I would have a hard time recommending. Snack bar was great and reasonably priced. When we first got there, staff greeted us and let us know when the next train was leaving. I hadn't planned ahead to ride this time, but they also told us there's a park a little ways down that's included at no additional cost, which was a really nice option to have. From the parking lot at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, you can actually see the playground behind a fence across the street. Once we walked over, we just took our time looking at the trains up close, passing the shops, and letting the kids explore as we went. The playground isn't huge, but it works. It's not gated, but it's tucked in enough that I wasn't worried about my kids running off. The ground is tire shred (which I prefer over tan bark), and there's seating for adults nearby. Bathrooms are right by the playground, which makes a big difference with little kids. There's also a Thomas the Train LEGO display at the Toy Train Store (not too far from the playground) which my kids loved. Next time, I'll plan ahead to include the train ride, but this was still a really good visit.

A man sitting nearby suddenly yelled at her that she wasn't allowed on the stage. My mom and sister apologized right away, but I jokingly said to my sister, "He probably doesn't even work here." The man immediately jumped into the conversation with an attitude and said, "I actually do work here." The whole interaction felt unnecessarily aggressive from the start. He was dressed in plain clothes with no name tag, uniform, or anything showing he worked there, so there was no clear way for visitors to know he was staff or that the stage was off limits. The situation could have been handled much more politely and professionally. Because of that experience, I honestly wouldn't come back. I also wanted to quickly add that if there was a sign, we did not see it.

The passenger cars are older, but in solid shape. Nothing too luxurious or alluring, but still pretty comfortable. The Glen Mills station is a nice place to get out and stretch your legs a little and grab a photo or two. Not necessarily one of most exciting tourist railroads in Pennsylvania, but worth checking out if you want to ride different lines and are in the area.

It's bad enough that I already have to pay an arm and a leg to ride the train, I have to pay over $3/day to park too! Oh, and to make matters worse, I have to carry tons and tons of quarters. Talk about weighing down my purse! And, yes I have tried to get the monthly pass, but it's a huge waiting list for it and the person told me that priority goes to people in need. So, where does that put me? Grrr.

FLEMINGTON/RINGOES: the Black River & Western Railroad is a dog friendly historic train ride that…read moretravels between Flemington and Ringoes. You can board at either station and travel to the next with peaceful views of the Hunterdon County countryside. Dogs are allowed on the "Black River Limited" rides. The roundtrip ride is about 30 minutes one-way with a 20 minute stop where you can disembark and take a look around, then 30 minutes back. The train runs rain or shine and it was a bit rainy during our excursion and didn't impact the enjoyment. There is no air conditioning and the windows are open to get air in the summer. The Ringoes station has a cute gift shop and some photo opportunities with an old caboose. (There is also a museum, but it is temporarily closed for renovations.). Thank you to their employee, Diana, for inviting us to participate in this unique experience. And, thank you to Maddielyne, a member of the train crew for chatting with us about Brie and sharing the history of the train and the area. If your dog is sensitive to noise, the train is loud riding over the tracks and the train horn blares frequently for safety precautions. Official pet friendly rules: "Are pets allowed? Well-behaved, leashed dogs are invited to ride the Black River Limited train at the conductor's discretion. We do ask that pet parents please make every effort to clean up after their pet for the convenience of our train crew. We recommend bringing a towel for your pet to sit on and other necessary supplies. Service animals are not considered pets and are permitted in all areas where customers are allowed."

The ride was easy to book online but if you need to change the reservation, you have to call a number and it's a guy picking up who doesn't answer the phone with the name of the company or anything, and he's also very abrupt. The driver was 15 minutes late picking up my mom - no notification - which made her frantic with anxiety and I had to stop her from driving herself. Pluses were that he was apparently a good driver and they made it in time but still: unnecessary agita in terms of booking and the lack of communication about being delayed.
