We have sent both of our kids to SCC, and have been part of the community since 2021. We love this school and highly recommend it from infant / toddler age through to pre-K. SCC has caring teachers, strong program design, and attentive, consistent management. The facilitates are well kept and kids are always able to find toys, books, and other activities that meet their needs. The curriculum is varied and both our son and daughter grew tremendously emotionally, socially, intellectually, and physically in ways we couldn't have matched at home and likely more than many competing programs. We appreciate how friendly other families are, and have made great friends through SCC. We love that SCC will host events like summer potluck and winter holiday performance where we can all gather, bond, and make memories. My wife and I are both educators and view SCC as one of the best places for young kids to grow and be looked after anywhere in the area. read more

We absolutely love SCC for our 2 year old. We switched her from her care based daycare in March 2025 and have seen her grow and thrive in leaps and bounds ever since she joined the 2.5 year old class. The curriculum for early pre-school is dynamic, structured and so much fun. Our daughter's vocabulary has quadrupled since she joined and she so looks forward to going to school everyday to learn and play. My kids attended Sequoia since one was 3 and the other was 1.5 all the way through pre-K. The teachers are wonderful, the facilities are terrific. They do field trips and Holiday programs, have a learning garden and volunteers teaching sign language. They have music and gymnastic days once a week and a librarian comes in a does story hour once a week as well. It's not the lowest cost option out there. But you get what you pay for and Sequoia is high-quality learning and care. My kids LOVE Sequoia. I'm almost sad to see my youngest start kindergarten this fall as we will miss all our friends at Sequoia! read more

This is one of best day care and preschools on the peninsula! Both our kids attended SCC starting at 6 months. They have some of the nicest, gentlest teachers caring for infants in the infant classroom. They are very respectful of all the babies' and parents' needs. We sent breastmilk for both the babies for a whole year and it was always handled with care, warmed according to guidelines, etc. Our kids enjoyed being in a social setting with other babies from early on, and thrived on routine and rules. The curriculum and environment at SCC has made them more independent and social than a lot of other kids who didn't attend daycare/preschool from early on. The facilities are very nice as well, plenty of space to play in the shade, as well as a nice playground outside with a playstructure, an area to ride tricycles, a water fountain outside, a huge indoor gymnasium etc. We love the balance of free-play and structured curriculum, as well as the specialty teachers they bring in on a weekly basis--music, library, Spanish, gym, etc. There are a couple of areas for improvement that would make this school even better: 1) The food/snacks choices can be healthier with more organic fruit and vegetables, organic yogurt (as opposed to frozen gogurt tubes) etc. 2) Some more structured academic learning for 4 year and older children can help get them better prepared for both public and private elementary school. Overall, this school is fantastic and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for childcare in the Redwood City area. read more

Love. We love the teachers. We love the facilities. We love the staff/admin. And most importantly, our children love SCC. Speaking of children, our oldest (now 6) spent 2+ years at SCC. Our 2nd child (quoted above) has been there for almost 3 years. And our 9 month old twins have been under the daily care and love of the SCC Family for nearly 5 months. I cannot recommend Sequoia Children's Center enough! My son attended from age 6 months to a little over 2 years. We unfortunately had to switch daycares due to new work/house location, but I wish more than anything that we could have stayed. SCC staff is professional, caring and the teachers clearly have a passion for what they do. My son was always safe, happy and thriving while under their care. I honestly cannot thank Summer, Alma and all the teachers for all of their support to this new, somewhat anxious mom. My only regret is that my daughter did not get the chance to attend! It is really confusing for me when I read the reviews on Yelp and then when I go to the place is totally the opposite of what I've read. First of all when I got there it was one of this horrible hot days that you couldn't be outside without melting. One of the teachers came out to receive me. She told me to wait and I asked her to please wait inside since I am 6 month pregnant and my 19 month old daughter was with me. She smiled and told me that I had to wait outside. I got really upset and couldn't believe it. When the lady in charge came out I told her what happened and her answer was that it was for security reasons. Honestly I don't think that a 6 month pregnant woman with her 19 month old daughter look very dangerous. So it didn't start very well. But my impressions didn't get better once I was in. The place is really dirty, old and neglected. Everything looked very old. I can't really understand the reviews that say the opposite. We should have a very different dirtiness level. I would never leave my kids in a place like this. And I hope this review really helps someone since the ones that I have read are far away from what I saw. read more

SCC is such a great place for infants and toddlers! First off, it is clean, bright, and meets NAEYC standards, which was a must for our family. We have had our 3.5 year old son and our 21 month old daughter enrolled there for the past 8 months, and we couldn't be happier. The infant room provides individualized, nurturing care, with very small child:caregiver ratios. Plus it is separate from the rest of the school, so that the space is a bit quieter and more age-appropriate for the little ones. The toddler and pre-school rooms are fantastic. There are tons of activities for the kids to do, and there is a lot of focus on self-directed learning, learning through free play, and reading. Families are strongly encouraged to participate, and we are given parent-led activities to do with our kids at home each week that correspond to what the kids are working on in the classroom. There are frequent opportunities for parents to get involved, including classroom parties, field trips, and educational opportunities. Recently my son's preschool class took trips to a pumpkin patch and a trip on the Caltrain to a nearby playground. The kids were SO thrilled to get to experience the train first hand. There are also frequent opportunities to meet with the teachers to discuss your child, both informal discussions at drop off and pick up as well as more formal parent-teacher conferences to discuss your child individually. I would say the most important thing about this school are the teachers. They are intelligent, thoughtful, patient, compassionate and clearly care very much about all the children at the school. Every teacher knows both of our kids' names, even if they haven't been in their classroom yet! Finally, there is a strong community atmosphere here. The school encourages this by having gatherings throughout the year that involve the families, including a Halloween parade/party, holiday show and party, and a summer BBQ at a nearby playground so that families can get to know each other and the teachers. There is also a parent-led committee to help involve parents in school policies, activities, and improvements. Obviously I can't speak highly enough about SCC. I would strongly recommend you check it out if you are looking for a safe, loving and educational place for your child to be cared for during the week. read more

We've been at Sequoia Children's Center for about a year and a half now, and we really love it. It's a great fit for our toddler, who is very active and loves to learn. We love the facility, programs and staff at SCC. Our child has grown and excelled in so many areas thanks to the great, loving teachers, especially Manuela and Amparo. Those two teachers particularly are so loving and kind with all of the children. They always greet each child by name and with a smile (before washing their hands, which I really appreciate). They seem so genuinely happy to be there and to see each child. They cuddle and sooth upset children with tenderness. Each of the teachers has taken the time to talk with us, usually daily, about what our child needs or did that day. Teachers from the older classes also know our child's name, and our child knows them already, too. I love that our child is part of a community there, and as she transitions to each new class, she is already comfortable because she knows the teacher and the kids. That kind of community also makes me feel much safer about leaving my child there. read more

I have to disagree with Trish K. I would have tried SCC first before posting a negative review. Sequoia Childrens Center is a wonderful place! We started in room 2. We moved from Santa Clara and had been unhappy with the nearby daycare Primary Plus. Our son had been unhappy an entire year and was always super clingy. When we started at Sequoia Childrens Center, he adapted well within a couple weeks and he started refusing to go home because he was having such a great time. The staff is very caring and understands all your concerns. I have gone through several daycares and by far this place is outstanding in every way. I can go to work and not worry all day, which is a huge change from the previous daycare! I heart SCC! read more

Both of my kids (my son is 4 yrs old and my daughter is 2.5 yrs old) have attended SCC since they were roughly 4.5 months old. Most of the teachers at the school are wonderful, it's a very loving environment for the kids. I feel that they really care about the kids and their well-being. Most of the kids and parents are also very nice and easy to deal with. I feel lucky that were we able to get both of our kids into the school and I believe they will be well prepared for kindergarten. read more

I cannot more highly recommend Sequoia Children's Center. I can only speak to the pre-K program, as we were living in the area for one year, and enrolled our son in the pre-K class for the duration of that time. The teachers - Carol and Becky - are incredible. They have built a curriculum that is engaging and encourages the kids to learn a lot, but also in a safe, nurturing, fun environment. But as far as I can tell all of the teachers and support staff there are wonderful. Our son has come out of the program very prepared for Kindergarten, but not overwhelmed. I also appreciated that there was a very practical and warm attitude there - I found in researching schools many arrogant programs that seemed like they were going to push a really strong academic emphasis on the kids. SCC is a program where the kids learn a lot and are perfectly prepared for Kindergarten, but not at the expense of pleasure, fun, and play. The families there are also terrific and it is a great place to be involved as much as you would like to be, with lots of opportunities for parent and family participation. If you are in search of childcare, in particular a pre-K program, I would definitely check out Sequoia Children's Center. read more

I visted this center 3 times before deciding I wasnt going to place my child here.First visit, I was impressed by the setup of rooms and how clean they maintained the building.Second visit was to pick up application.3rd visit was to meet the care taker that would be watching my infant.I stayed around for 2 hours to watch how she treated the other children.Of course me being there she was giving my daughter special treatment.One man that came to drop off his child was also given special attention and affection in front her father until he left.She allowed the child to cry on the floor.I forgot to mention that the infant director is a latina lady was rude and demanding. read more

I am very pleased with Sequoia Children's Center. My family and I just moved to Redwood City on the first of November. I was very nervous about having to switch my daughter to a new day care because I was scared she would have to start all over; with the crying and not wanting to go because she did not know anyone; the same thing she did when she first started day care at Hoover Children's Center in San Bruno when she was eighteen months. I assume because of her age, she adjusted much better. I have noticed her behavior at home and I must say, she is learning a lot at Sequoia. Her teachers have her potty training and I absolutely love it when she tells me she has to potty at home! Starting last week, she does not even want to go home when I pick her up. She is in the toddler room with Teacher Shorikka (sorry if I spelled it wrong, my name gets spelled wrong all the time too) and Teacher Alexis who are both very personable and easy to talk to opposed to one of her teacher's at Hoover who just always seemed to be so judgemental. Our daughter has been going to Suquoia Children's Center (SCC) since she was four months old. She is now almost 8 months old. This review is very specific to her specific caregivers and the administration / organization. Her main teacher, Amparo, is absolutely amazing! She is one of those people that genuinely radiates a never ending amount of love and warmth and we feel great knowing that our daughter spends so much time with her. I couldn't recommend an individual person any more highly than I recommend Amparo. I have no experience with any of the other teachers. Next, SCC is very clean, well run, and organized. I have seen them cleaning top to bottom every day at the end of the day. The two main administrators we have worked with are Gladys and Karen Peterson (the Executive Director). Both are professional, warm, and reasonable. Again, this review is limited to only the portion of SCC that we have used / interacted with. read more

We have been with SCC since my first born was 4 months old, I am about to enroll my 3rd this month. As much as I hated having to work and having someone else take care of my kids, I have nothing but great things to say about their care at SCC. My first is about to 'graduate' from PreK and I am somewhat sad that he'll be leaving this school for a different one this summer. All the teachers have been wonderful and my kids ENJOY going. Sometimes instead of them crying as I drop them off, they cry when I come to pick them up they're having so much fun. They have excellent teachers that are caring and professional. They also include gymnastics, sign language and music lesson in the program. My daughter attends the 3-year-old preschool at SCC and we have been extremely happy with it. I talked to several families of children here before sending my daughter, and everyone I spoke to had very positive things to say. First and foremost, we love the teachers. They are very warm: every teacher in the place knows every child by name and my daughter is genuinely excited to see her teachers every morning. The teachers are also very hardworking and put together a wonderful curriculum for the kids on a bimonthly basis. They strike a very nice balance between play-based and teacher-led classroom activities. Even when the kids are just playing, the teachers are interacting with them and scaffolding their activities in a variety of ways--never just sitting back and watching. Second, the facilities are outstanding. I was initially concerned about a lack of natural light in the classrooms, but the kids spend a lot of time outdoors on really nice playground equipment and playing with outdoor toys. The classrooms themselves are clean and fully equipped with developmentally-appropriate toys. Lastly, each day has a consistent routine but brings in a special enrichment activity: sign language, spanish, library storytime, gymnastics, and music. I have a background in Developmental Psychology and have been watching the school with a close eye since my daughter started attending: it has really exceeded my expectations and I definitely recommend it. read more
