The outdoor exploration and connections with nature the children are exposed to, are rare and truly a gift.

My daughter attended Fern Gully for 4 years. We love it so much!! She learned so many important…read moresocial skills. The teachers are kind, patient and fun. And best of all it connected us with a community of like minded people and friends for a lifetime. I highly recommend this school!!

Unfortunately, this "school" is not what it advertises to be. If you are considering sending your…read morechild here, I recommend that you reconsider that decision for the safety and well-being of your child. "We provide Waldorf inspired, holistic, outdoor education." " a mission to nurture the whole child in all areas of development, including physical, social, emotional and spiritual, as well as intellectual." "We focus on social- emotional awareness, creativity & resiliency." None of this is actually accurate. The teachers lack the knowledge or skill (or both) to incorporate the ideologies or either Maria Montessori or Rudolf Steiner. They do not focus on social-emotional awareness. The teachers utilize punishment that is not rooted in Montessori or Waldorf. My son, who has neurodivergence, was punished so HARSHLY here that his neuropsychologist asked, unprompted by me, to send a letter to the school teachers to educate them on how to appropriately handle discipline and how to offer support instead, for young children. My son endured extreme trauma here. There are many other farm, forest and outdoor schools in Olympia. I recommend any of them over Fern Gully. I would stay far away from this place. They do not offer a safe environment for your child - they don't supervise the children and they do not keep them safe emotionally.

I really wanted to love this program and teacher. Unfortunately, we had several negative…read moreexperiences which completely outweigh the benefit of the uniqueness of her model of teaching. We signed up for two months of monthly programs (meeting twice per month) for our two kids, who after their nervousness had passed began to really enjoy the program, and we had intended to continue with the weekday programs this fall. However the teacher/director began canceling at 2am or midnight the night before (long after kids were in bed, lunches and bags packed, plans were made for adults). Not only did she cancel so late, but she claimed it was due to lack of enrollment (wouldn't it be more appropriate to determine that at the least earlier in the day the day prior when people who ARE enrolled would get the notice before the morning of? It left me thinking she must just be out partying. She promised via text that she would offer make up days for what we'd paid for and never responded to me again.) On top of that, she had awarded us financial aid for the second summer session (which was supposed to cover four meetings) and then canceled all but the first one. So she ripped us off on top of that- don't award financial aid to low income families who cannot afford to send kids to programs like this ordinarily and then treat them like they are second-class students. I sent her multiple emails attempting to work out a solution and get some reassurance that this isn't her normal way of treating her students and their families. We never received any explanation, no negative feedback about our kids, nothing but positives, and then suddenly ignored, canceled, and feeling highly disrespected. No response from Brooke after two months. So absolutely not recommended!

If you only read one review, let this be it…read more (TL;DR - it's misrepresented here on Yelp and is filthy and disgusting with a bunch of shrill harpies hollering at the kids.) First things first - all their photos here are from over two years ago. But don't worry; I added a bunch from this month so you can see where these kids spend their time. I didn't get any shots of the playground, but that photo of new toys in beauty bark? No longer accurate. It's a long strip of pea gravel with a bunch of plastic toys that are so old and sun-bleached, you wouldn't be able to donate them to Goodwill. It's fenced in with chain link and it's in a parking lot next to Taco Bell. When I called to schedule a tour, I asked a lot of questions and was placated with all the answers I wanted to hear (including that their play area was NOT in a parking lot, ironically). I toured Little Flowers and my first impression was that it looks so different that I thought the Yelp photos were of a separate location. The preschool room, let me tell ya - it is TOTAL chaos. The "teacher" doesn't have any control over those kids and all she does is yell. Even when she's speaking normally it's a yell. And apparently her own son is in that class as well, she was yelling at him too. It was disgusting, smelled terrible, kids crying...I mean I understand that daycare can be a mixed bag but this was on another level. The photos I shared here were taken after some modicum of "cleaning" had been done, as evidenced by the smell of lemon slightly masking the pee odor. Why do people send their kids here? Either they don't know, don't care, or don't have a choice. I am not sure which of the three is worst, to be honest. I don't have an axe to grind here. I just think that it's super important that we as parents keep ourselves and each other well-informed. Avoid this place.
