I lived here from April 2015 - April 2019 and the entire time I lived there, I was proud to call Serenata Townhomes where I lived. When I first moved in, Brenda did a fantastic job taking care of me and making sure everything was perfect with my home. Joe took over in 2017 and I was impressed with how quickly he was, in taking care of any small issues that came up. When the hot water heater broke down due to service time, Joe was already ordering me a new one and had it installed the next day. I was sorry to have to go, but I know that whoever moves in, will be just as happy as I was to live there. read more

I lived at Serenata for 2 years and moved out in 2018. I did not receive any receipt or portion of my security deposit back! I tried contacting the property's office multiple times and they just kept telling me that they were waiting to hear back from corporate about it. I have waited almost 2 years... 2 YEARS to hear back about my deposit and still NOTHING. I've sent a letter to corporate in hopes to mediate the situation before I take it to small claims and they dismissed that as well... read more

Lived here from February 2014-February 2016 and really hated moving out. The area can't get anymore convenient than it already is. Just crossing the street you have 24 hour fitness, Sam's club, Target and much more! If you need to get onto the 94W, all you have to do is exit the complex and make a left at the light several feet away from the entrance/exit. Guest parking is very easy to accommodate due to the lot across the street (where the gym is) where a 3rd car can be parked and so can plenty of guest! No security seemed to be available but I never experienced any type of crime. The townhouses themselves are huge with thick walls and spacious 2 car garages (easily could park a Quad Cab Dodge Ram and a GTO with plenty of space to open the doors). A small downside about the master bedroom was that there was no separation between the room and the bathroom itself...so when taking care of your "necessities" you may want to air out the room lol. The balconies on the 2nd floor are pretty cozy and can easily fit 2 lawn chairs if properly positioned. The washer and dryer in the garage work great as well even if it became a pain in the butt climbing up and down the stairs. The entire complex itself is very tiny. Sometimes you would have a neighbor park their car outside of their garage which would make go through a tight squeeze to get past them but nothing impossible. I can honestly say I never had a problem with the place that couldn't be resolved. Brenda, the property manager, was very polite, a pleasure to talk to and took great care of the homes and it's residents! I would recommend this place to anyone and I believe the 2,000+ rent is more than worth it. read more

While small and compact, Serenata (at least under the management they have now) has been great to me. I've read the previous reviews, and while it may have been true then, I can assure you it's not now. Brenda, the property manager, is sweet and over accommodating. Any issue we ever had with our townhouse was always resolved within a day-except when we had to wait for a part to come in for our AC. Obviously, that was out of her control, and she even provided us with her own personal, portable AC and fans for the time being. The dog poop has never been an issue for me. There's strict rules on it, and everyone picks up after their dogs. My only complaints are 1) that noise does travel easily because of how the townhouses are built, but it was never too bad of an issue for me where I had to make a noise complaint. Plus, if you close your windows and doors (i.e. sliding doors), you'll be fine. And 2) that the cross street is busy, so when I left my windows open during summer nights it was noisy. However, let it be clear that none of this is the managements fault. I have no issues with them at all, especially since every time I had an issue with something broken or what have you, Brenda always had a solution. Furthermore, you do a walk through of the townhouses before you sign the lease. If it's not to your standards, you would know in advanced. Hope this helps! read more

Been living at this lovely place for sometime now. Love how convenient everything located across the street from shopping centers, gym and of course Starbucks. SDSU is right around the corner but away from student housing. Chollas lake park is great if you like to run or hike. Neighborhood hasn't been bad at all either, never have had any theft, criminal activity go on. It's in a hidden place so I don't think many people know it's here. Behind us is Chollas Military housing and I'm sure there is plenty of security because of this. If you need a 3 bedroom for a great price with great apartment features like washer and dryer, AC and high quality interiors. Then this is definitely good deal! Cons: No pool but it's not like we can't drive to the beach in the summer instead. No playground but Chollas Lake is just walking distance. read more

I was living here for a little more than 3 years (August 2012 - January 2015), and I have to say it was always great as a home. When I first moved in was incredible as the condition of the unit was exceptional, it seemed like it was almost brand new even though it had been built few years back. Located right across a shopping center that almost has it all, and said by someone who never owned a car while living there. Shopping center features about 6 different bus routes that would take you to nearby trolley stations and more importantly SDSU (I was a student while living there). Walmart and Target that I never minded to walk to, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, post office, and much more. I think it was a major change when Brenda came in to be the new manager, most of the problems we would have within the unit were always addressed in a timely manner. Important to point out that previous management never got our AC unit fixed properly until Brenda was in charge and send proper people to look into it. Took a while but they had to do a major fix, and they did it. Plus she was kind to provide us with a mobile AC unit that my roommates and I could use in the meantime. If you're sensitive to noise (incoming cars, children playing, etc.), I would recommend you to choose, if possible, one of the units that isn't located right across other units, as the sound echoes in between and might disturb more than it should when you have your windows open. But as someone mentioned on other reviews, and I totally agree with: This isn't a management problem, is just the way the complex was built and its location. Overall, as a student, it was a great experience for a good rental price, if compared to other apartment units I ever got a chance to look into around SDSU. read more

I'm giving this place two stars and not just one star due to the fact of how they handled my situation after the fact. So from the beginning, I saw Serenata Townhomes online around mid-September and figured I'd call to see if they had any availability before I wasted anyone's time. A couple issues I have with this complex, one they never answer the phone or return voicemails and two the hours of operation are a crazy mess and listed on different websites as different hours so you never know when you may or may not catch someone in the front office. I met with the front office personal who is solely one guy who manages the front office, the complex, does all the maintenance, paperwork, etc. This guy does EVERYTHING. Which I don't think is fair for him or the residents. So with him being the only guy working for the whole complex, obviously things can get slowed down a bit ie, not returning phone calls, not returning emails, maybe being in the front office. So if you're looking for constant contact or updates this place isn't for you as there is literally 1 guy doing everything. So I ended up sitting down with him at the front office and he said they had 2 units available, but I couldn't view any model units as everything was occupied. I said okay that's fine, I liked the reviews I saw on Yelp, liked the community, liked the price and liked the photos he showed me. That night I sent in my application and my $300 hold deposit on my unit. I tried not to bother the front desk until closer to my move in date which was about a month later. I emailed them 17 days out requesting to set up a time and date to view the unit and go over the lease. I was told I couldn't view the unit as someone was currently living in the unit. I said "that's fine, I understand but If I could view the unit several days before move in that would be great because I'm presuming that the tenant's will be moved out several days before I move in" I didn't hear anything back. So I tried to be patient and again emailed several days later. I asked again when could I view the unit and go over the lease. I didn't hear anything back. By this point I'm starting to feel a little uneasy about the whole situation. I have 12 days till I'm supposed to move in and I have not heard anything from the office. Two days go by and I'm still in the dark, no one returns my calls, my emails, so I decide to go in person and see if I can catch anyone. It's Wednesday at 4:30 pm. The office is closed. By this point I'm starting to feel like something shady is going on. I go the next day to put a stop payment on my $300 deposit check and start frantically searching for a new place to live. I'm down to the wire with 11 days to go until move out. I finally get a call from the front office with 11 days to go, after weeks of no communication telling me my unit is ready for move in. By this point I'm really upset and stressed with this move. I tell him I'm no longer interested in dealing with Serenata Townhomes and to give me back my application fee and my check. He said he understands my frustration and apologizes profusely saying all the jobs he does and how he is only 1 person. I understand that, but then the resident gets punished for bad management. They really need to hire another person just for maintenance. The reason that I'm giving an extra star from one is because he did meet with me later that day and return the check that he "wasn't supposed to give me back". He also after saying he couldn't refund me the application fee somehow figured that part out and paid it back to me the following Monday. Also on a side note the complex is conveniently located across from Walmart and target etc. Which I was excited about initially, but after visiting the Walmart across the street a couple times, I was kind of glad that Serenata Townhomes fell through because the area surrounding is ghetto. The Walmart is especially distasteful, Homeless sitting outside, trash everywhere, people smoking weed in the parking lot, thug looking teenagers harassing you to buy their candy for a "school fundraiser", etc. So yes there is my full review of Serenata Townhomes and the surrounding area. read more

Do not be fooled by the granite and new appliances. My roommates and I, who are students at SDSU, lived here for 6 months. When we signed our lease we thought we were moving into a brand new, nice community. We were wrong. You can never get in contact with the management because they are only there once a week, and if you leave a message they will not return your call. People that live in this community are for the most part inconsiderate. When my roommate asked a family to turn their music down on a Tuesday night so that she could STUDY, the father came out and called her a "little tramp" and a "hoe" and told her to go back where she came from. Needless to say, after this incident we did not feel safe there. Our decision to pay to break our lease was finally made after the SHOOTING in the townhouse connected to ours. read more

When it came time to move into a new place I was having the hardest time finding places that would allow for large breed dogs like my 100 pound German Shepherd. When I accidently came to find Serenata Townhomes and their advertisement was " We accept all breeds of Dogs" I about died. I came that day viewed the place and put down a down payment before I left a few hours later. The office manager has been super helpful with my many questions since the beginning, the move in special was a great deal, parking is super close and there's a shop for just about anything you need right across. Im pretty sure I eat at subway three days a week since moving here and there's a 24 hour fitness there too. The maintenance guy does work at other communities so when you put in a service request it can sometimes take a couple days but I don't think we've ever had to wait more than 3-4 days before something was fixed. I know that in the past people parking inappropriately was a problem so the newest office manager, Ben, has been cracking down on it. Been here for four months now and I love it. Theres even a little lake with a park and a bunch of trails that my dog loves going on. All my neighbors have dogs and all of ours get along and play together. One of my only complaints is that I can't find good food places that deliver to here. read more

I received a private message asking to update my review if things had changed. Well, they hadn't gotten any better by the time we moved out. We are long gone, but during our last week there, a neighbor had collected all of the dog crap in front of our homes and threw it against our front door splattering crap everywhere! Apparently he was targeting the other neighbor next door, since he witnessed him letting his dogs poop all over, but had the wrong door. Stay classy, Serenata! My boyfriend and I came across this complex from a friend who works out across the street @ 24hour Fitness. We checked it out, loved it and we've been living here ever since. Its been about 2 1/2 years already! PROS: - The kitchens here are "to die for!" I love my kitchen! Lots of space and very modern! - Awesome location: Its next to a shopping center (Sams Club, WalMart, 24 Fitness, Big Lots, Target and my favorite place in the world... Starbucks!) - Recently built: We hardly have any problems with maintenance. Yaay! - Washer/Dryer, Central AC/Heater, garage for 2 cars and extra parking across the street... My family/friends dont have to look for parking when they come over. Awesome! - They accepted my 100lb Lab/Collie mix! We love taking her to Chollas Lake Park which is just about a block away. - Management: The manager is very friendly and attentive to everyone's needs. He communicates with everyone in the complex using SMS text which I personally think is easy and straight to the point. You can call him at anytime (even after-hours) and he lives on-site too, which we think is very important. CONS: - The rooms are a tad bit small. If you have a queen size bed, its fits perfectly! Anything larger and you might have some space issues. We dont have alot of stuff, so it works for us. - Direct TV or COX... Thats it!: DirectTV is expensive for just satellite tv with no internet. And COX is cable/TV/internet service that sucks! We used to have ATT U-Verse and loved it! All in all, after 2 years, Serenata is wonderful place to live. We have a great relationship with most of our neighbors and the manager, its centrally located to everything in SD (since the 94 freeway is just a block away) and its super pet-friendly. Our home is perfect for us and we love showing it off... =) read more

My husband and I have lived in this community for one year, and we recently moved out due to military relocation. In the short time we resided here, we experienced both old and new management. I don't really remember how things were when Denise was running things, but I did like the fact we could pay rent online. Since Johnny took things over, I have seen great improvements to the property itself, and also the policies for residents. I love the community; we are very close to shopping, freeway access and an easy commute to most military bases in the area. The community is pet friendly, which is more than I can say for most places we found in the San Diego area. The community has designated pet friendly areas, which are always kept clean and stocked with bags (since Johnny took over). Parking was a big issue, and still is in some cases, but Johnny has taken a step in fixing this problem by constructing parking spaces throughout the property. Each home has an attached two car garage, which is quite sizeable, considering we had an extended bed, extended cab Toyota that fit just fine next to a Honda. As far as the home itself, I absolutely love it! It has a spacious floor plan, large master bedroom, a patio, and granite countertops throughout the home. I will truly miss it! We moved in 2 weeks before Denise left, so our time with her was short. I noticed from the time she left to the time Johnny took over there were major changes in store. As mentioned before, I do miss the ability to make payments online, however that is all I miss of her time as manager. I enjoyed having Johnny as our manager as he has a physical office on site, regular office hours, and is available outside of normal business hours for emergencies or other concerns. He is considerate and strives to meet the needs of each resident living on the property. In a nutshell, I loved living in the community, and if we ever come back to San Diego, this will be the first place we stop. I give Serenata Townhomes a 5 out of 5 rating because I really enjoyed our experience here, and I believe that Johnny has some great ideas to help improve the community more than he already has. read more

I've lived in multiple town homes and this was an average experience. The Good: Very friendly management, conveniently located near shopping center, quick access to interstate 94, two-car garages. The Bad: Sound does travel well through the community so it was noisy at times. Solicitors love this area. There was a sign at the entrance saying "No Solicitors" that didn't discourage anyone. When I put my own "no soliciting" sign on my front door, the offers stopped coming, but after awhile, someone ripped it off and the sales returned. At least once or twice a week someone would interrupt me to try and clean my carpets or sell me magazine subscriptions. The homes themselves are good for one or two adults. Too many stairs for young kids. This is the primary reason we left. We were having a kid and the stairs were inconvenient. In our unit the washer and dryer were on the ground floor while the master bedroom was two flights up, so get ready to climb when doing laundry. There were no bathrooms on the main floor of our two bedroom, so when you are watching TV or working in the kitchen or office and you had to go, you had to make a trip upstairs. I was here for six months and found the overall experience to be satisfactory for a couple college roommates or single sailors. It is close to the base (10-15 min drive) and the campus. It felt a little expensive for what you got; no gym, no pool. There are places in San Diego for the same price that include more amenities. It served its purpose as a transitionary home for my wife and I when we relocated to San Diego, no regrets. read more

Serenata townhomes is wonderful! The townhome is exactly like the pictures show. My husband and I absolutely LOVE it here! San Diego is amazing and this townhome is the perfect location. We are not downtown, but are 10 minutes from ANYTHING! Management is also great. Everyone has been very nice. It's very spacious and brand new. I have nothing bad to say about Serenata. Not to mention, it's very affordable and pet friendly! We plan on staying here for as long as we can. read more

I was living at serenata town homes for about a year and a half and let first off by saying it is an amazing place. Not only are the homes beautiful and spacious but the location isn't overly congested and surrounded by anything you'll ever need. There isn't a lot of guest parking inside the complex which is no problem because there is a huge parking a lot across that street that has security guards roaming it 24/7. Brenda is an amazing landlord and trust me when I say that any issues you have will be handled same day or no later than the following morning. Also the houses have really good sound proofing, my roommates were musicians and I was web series entertainer so we can be loud at times but we never received any complaints. We also checked by walking outside while people were playing instruments and barely heard a thing. Overall this complex is an amazing place with an amazing manager, if there's a vacancy here hurry up and grab the spot, you won't regret it! read more

The property manager Brenda is very helpful and will go out of her way to help out with anything. The maitence guy keeps the property clean and anything that needed fixing was quickly handled. The three stories sucked but the apartments themselves were very nice and clean. There were a few noise complaints that I had but they were resolved right away with the property manager brenda. She was really great and friendly and always resolved any issues we had fast. I only gave it four stars because of the lack of basic apartment ammenties like a club house and gym but I would move back if brenda worked there, she was great. read more

Having lived here for a year, I will miss the convince of everything right at your finger tips. The management we have had has been AMAZING!!! If we ever needed anything Johnny was there or got back to us right away. Its a great feeling to know I could just Text him and find anything out. The house in its self is beautiful. The fact that we had the washer and dryer was a great plus, having two small children I would not want to have to go to a laundry mat. I know in another review they said things about the noise and I will say yes when we first moved in there was a few problems with it, but as time has gone on there has not been a problem with the noise, or the pet problems. read more

Don't be fooled by the granite counters and seemingly spacious photos. These units feel no bigger than 750 square feet. The "third" bedroom is at most 9'x9' and is so small that you can't fit more than a full sized bed and a small chest inside. The rent is way higher than what the place is worth. We had nothing but plumbing problems. Management had to be nagged for anything to get done maintenance wise. Our dishwasher broke and it took a month to be fixed. There were constant noise issues with college parties that management refused to do anything about. Upon move out you are required to pay for the entire unit to be painted, even if there is not a single hole in the walls or you touch up yourself because "the paint fades and won't match if it is just touched up" (in their words). Management was never actually around during office hours, and were never home or reachable by phone during off hours. Even worse - they remove any negative reviews off their Facebook page. If that isn't shady, i don't know what is. read more

Its getting really noisy here. Folks dont adhere to the Lease Agreement. They push and push the limits. If your single, trying to have peace and quiet when you come home from work and eat your dinner, you have to do it several nights a week and most weekends while the kids are running wild, yelling and doing whatever they want. I have never in 8 mths heard an adult stepnout and tell their children tonpipe dow. I am asked to tolerate the chidren that are left to run wild. If you say anything, you feel guity cause the children are " playing". Why cant the parents take the children up the street to Chollas Park? No, they rather Everyone tolerate their children. The Lease Agreement is clear. It is not enforced and or selectively enforced. We also now have new folks that blast their car radio, that my glass doors shook. Folks will get their mail all different times while in their cars, and keep the radio blasting. We even had folks park wherever they want in violation of pisted signs. I recommended this place to a friend, and they came on a day when the kids were riding their bikes and yelling. He told others not to bother and try Cica 37 in Mission Valley where Lease Agreement is enforced and 24 hr security is in charge. It was nice here for a great while, and Johnny has done an outstanding job. But I think these parents have him over a barrel, and us single people are discrimanted against. It really is not fair, right or legal. I am being forced to move at great expense to myself due these issues. Right now, kids have been out there nearly 4 hrs. Me and 3 of my neighbors with no kids have been coping with this for months. We have asked for help, but these kids still run wild. I wonder what the owners would do if they knew. Some people have no respect, and do Not honor the Lease Agreement they signed. If you say anything, you the evil one. Violations of the Lease Agreement should mean a warning, and then your asked to leave. People that honor their Lease Agreement and cause no issues shouldnt have the cost burden to leave. read more
