I was here back in early June and entered the detox area after being told about the pool, the fitness center, the wonderful walks that we can have outside and the wonderful chef made food he was all one big scam. I will say that the technicians on the floors and the doctors were very good and great people. But even the doctors knew it was a scam. Not sure why they would even allow themselves to work there. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. I had some problems. I was trying to deal with and I checked myself out after a week because I realized it was just one big scam and them. I'm sharing my full experience at Serenity Detox / Serenity at Summit (Harmony Recovery Group) so others can make an informed decision before choosing treatment here.During my stay, I experienced and witnessed multiple issues that raised serious concerns about safety, staffing, medication management, communication, and overall quality of care.* Medication errors were frequent and unsafe. I personally experienced more than a dozen medication mix‑ups. I also found medications dropped on the floor inside the nurses' station multiple times.* Medication delivery was unreliable. We were often at the mercy of the pharmacy, and it took multiple days for medications to arrive. This created unnecessary gaps in treatment and increased anxiety for patients who depended on timely dosing.* Severe staffing shortages affected basic care. Some days medications were administered at 8 a.m., other days not until 10 a.m. There were days when a single nurse was responsible for two separate floors and had to handle an intake at the same time. This led to long delays in receiving medication, including during moments of anxiety when timely care was essential.* Food quality and basic amenities declined during my stay. Desserts were discontinued two weeks into treatment. Snacks and coffee were often unavailable. Fruit was only offered occasionally at breakfast. These changes appeared to be part of ongoing financial cutbacks.* Some employees were confrontational and lacked compassion. Communication between staff members and departments was poor, and the environment felt disorganized and inconsistent.* Privacy and professionalism were not consistently respected. A female patient reported that a tech walked in on her while she was getting dressed or undressed. She was later discharged for missing group sessions after repeatedly asking for a smoke/fresh‑air break.* Aftercare planning was unnecessarily difficult. When I tried to arrange my own aftercare plan, I felt resistance from staff. It gave the impression that they were trying to steer me away from my preferred options, possibly because they wouldn't receive a referral fee.* Administrative responsiveness after discharge has been extremely poor. They have not responded to a signed Release of Information (ROI) and have failed to send required medical documentation. These delays are now directly impacting government assistance programs that rely on timely verification.* Overall, the facility felt understaffed, unorganized, and poorly managed. The combination of medication errors, pharmacy delays, staffing shortages, inconsistent schedules, lack of communication, and declining amenities created an environment that did not match the level of care advertised.I plan to file formal complaints with the BBB and other relevant oversight resources. I may share additional details later, but I wanted to provide a complete and honest warning to anyone considering treatment here. About a year and half ago, the place was great! Now that Harmony bought them out many of the good people whom worked there have now left! I love how they say yes they have free wi-fi but neglect to tell you their own rule is no cell phones allowed unless used with a counselor! Not to mention when you get your nightly call a tech is in the room and phone must be on speaker! How they charge your insurance for group counseling when techs now for the most part facilitate the group meetings?! Are they certified to do so? Doubt it! Talk about a screaming SCAM! If you or a loved one is in need of detox/treatment program, AVOID this place. Do not let the SALESMEN lie to you when you call, because that is unfortunately what happened to me. I was told there were group meetings all day (there are not, maybe 1 a day and none on the weekends "chill weekends" as they are called) I was told there would be walks to a park (there is no such thing), you are actually only allowed to go outside for 6 "fresh air" breaks, so about an hour a day (if you move to the treatment floor, your upgrade is 2 extra smoke breaks and a kitchen, (yay) also I was told about the amazing amenities, such as the pool (there is no pool) the gym? (closed off to everyone) amazing food? (terrible, almost inedible, i lost weight in 5 days, also served luke warm, but don't worry, they'll be sure to check to the temp to make sure it's safe to serve) There is no ice on the premise nor access to a working microwave (on the detox floor) Activities during the weekend? (the staff will laugh and have no idea what you're talking about) This apparently is not the first time they have told a list of lies a Dr mentioned. I along with a maturity of other patients seeked help elsewhere, but be careful, they don't want to lose your business and will do everything in their power to make you stay such as 24 hr holds (if you accept ANY medicine from them, moving you to their treatment floor when you are trying to arrange your transfer to another facility) If you are looking for a place to look at a brick wall, be drugged out of your mind and sleep all day and watch TV, then this is the place for you. Also do not send or bring anything of value there, they lied and stole multiple items from my bags that were dropped off, including a "round" i had in my wallet for years from a combat vet that meant the world to me, when i got home i noticed it was gone (i have been through security hundreds of times with no issue), no call backs no answers to voicemails regarding medication, missing bags, this place should be investigated.There are so many more options where they don't sell you a bunch of lies (they cant even offer ice water) to make a sale, they're taking advantage of addicts, their loved ones and their insurance companies; that's really low. There is a positive! The nurses and staff are really nice, clueless on what's going on about pretty much everything, good luck getting any answers while you're there. Also if you call and ask to have a message passed to a patient, they will not, no matter the importance of the matter. read more

Well can't say I had the best experience being they took damn near 40 dollars from me for this or that was given promise after promise that the money or products I purchased would be given back to me and nothing but false promise after promise Tyrone personally guaranteed the products be brought to me at the other facility and it was nothing more than another lie. They as well "accidently donated a pack of my personal cigs" to the community and just was basically by the end of it saying welp sorry for ya again after promise after promise my shit be replaced and everything else good God and I've called over and over my techs and the owners of the facility I'm at several of them over and over and fucking nothing? Promised a call back and nothing?! Don't waste your insurance unless you want to be exploited for your shit and money. read more

Stay away unless you want to be taken advantage of and want to get worst in your recovery. Completely disorganized, terrible food, and lies about billing. he intake team, my therapist, and a coordinator all promised me this would be completely 100% free of charge to me, just to charge me thousands of dollars after the fact, convincing me to stay longer than I ever would have if I knew how much it would cost me. I can't help but think it's purposeful and deliberate and that they coerced me in a time of vulnerability and need. I imagine this is common practice for them. They will pretend to care but they are not your friends. While there are some great, genuine staff there, the entire package is not worth it, unless you accidentally want to shell out 10,000 dollars. It's not what I'd call conducive to recovery. read more

Ashley Lewis was my counselor last year. She was amazing I could talk with her about anything. However the staff was the worst Ive ever seen. They honestly called us men a bunch of cry baby bitches at 1 point. The food was worse than prison food. I watched and helped a 19 yr old boy while he was having a seizure, no nurses on the floor at the time, and it took them 18 minutes to get to him, when they arrived one of the nurses kicked me as i was keeping him from hitting his head against the wall. She screamed for me to leave him alone and let him flop around like a dying fish. There was a young lady with a back disability, she used a walker, we were all going to go to a park across the street, she was told she couldn't go to the park because she wouldn't be able to cross the street safely. I threatened a law suit then the staff decided to let her go. The Director is a decent man, he needs to know whats going on, the administration is horrible, The staff is absolutely disgusting. read more

****UPDATE**** I will be filing a complaint with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, State Board of Medical Examiners. The GROSSLY negligent treatment of my family member continues even AFTER her discharge. 5 DAYS after they discharged her with 7 MEDICATIONS (some 90 pills/bottle), THEY ISSUED HER MORE SCRIPTS!!!!!!! She was taking them by the handful and almost finished all of them in less than a week. I guess she must have called with some sob story over how she "misplaced" her bottles and needed more. Needless to say, she cannot form sentences. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED AFTER I SPOKE WITH THE HEAD OF NURSING TO TELL HER HOW SHE HAD BEEN OVERMEDICATED AND ABUSING HER MEDS. When I called to speak with the facility, I was told that "no doctor that plans on keeping his medical license would ever prescribe a DISCHARGED patient more meds..." I hope DR. ANTHONY OPARAJI has a hell of a medical malpractice attorney!!! IF YOU CARE ABOUT SOMEONE'S LIFE AND SOBRIETY, KEEP THEM FAR AWAY FROM SERENITY AT SUMMIT. I have NEVER seen a facility so DETERMINED to see a patient fail. This is CRIMINAL and I WILL pursue having this facility investigated. I suggest everyone posting about how overly sedated and STRUNG out their loved one looked leaving this disgrace of a rehabilitation center do the same. The director of the program met with me prior to her discharge since i was IRATE that she was slurring over the phone. He was very good at calming me down and promised that they would consolidate her medication. Not only did they not consolidate, they added more! She ACTUALLY had 2 SCRIPTS (90 pills) for the same medication written 1 day apart from one another. They blatantly disregarded my concerns and now we are dealing with the consequences. This facility has no interest in involving family and is much more concerned with sedating their patients and collecting payment from the insurance providers. I am not even going to get into the numerous occasions that I was fed misinformation, but take my word for it... the past 10 days were torture. The struggle continues as I've been trying to wake her up for the past three hours, but she's "dead to the world" from all of the medication they discharged her with. read more

This place treated my sister w/kindness, respect. & compassion. And they made sure that she was admitted w/in hours of my first call. Kevin you are the shit my dude! You went above and beyond. Especially when it came to getting my sister to your facility. Even your driver Tallon was kick ass. He was so sweet and patient. He even helped her pack her luggage. Had a family member stay here. While he was in the facility he had something stolen from him. I have called them endlessly and they didn't even have the decency return my phone call. While he was there he was fed meds endlessly and un necessary. Which he refused. The staff were rude nasty and unprofessional. When I spoke to one of the people at the facility all they did was yes me to death they didn't even have the decency to address my concerns I have been in healthcare for 25+ years and I must tell you this place was A disappointment actually disappointment is an understatement The way that these patients are spoken to is disgusting! Shame on the people who work at this facility and shame on the administration! I can't THANK everyone enough there, I don't normally write reviews , I'm writing to share to everyone how comfortable you can feel your loved one is here. Its only been two days since my boyfriends home so who knows what can happen, it's all in his own hands. As long as he was comfortable enjoyed his groups and counselors that's a plus. Bad place Bad Staff. My son was there and there's a bunch of minority staff on a power trip that have no concern for the clients. Dis organized nursing staff. Quick to toss a client out to the street. Manny in particular was an ass. I'd like to use a few choice words but then I would be labeled a racist. Nate and Gino were the only ones that seemed to have a concern. The Director showed no concern also. It's a real shame that a place that's supposed to help people is just there for the money and no concern for the clients recovery. Hopefully I will never have to deal with them again !
