This review is only for the golf facilities at Currahee Club. Overall, this is a very impressive…read morefacility and is well worth a visit. There is adequate parking in front of the clubhouse and a bag drop is provided. The clubhouse was nice and the men's locker room was impressive. The driving range has a sufficient number of hitting areas and the practice putting green is very large. As I played the course in late fall, the practice facilities showed their wear from a season of use. Still, the conditions were acceptable. The practice area includes a dedicated area for bunker practice and pitching practice. While many course have a practice bunker, few have their practice facilities set up well for hitting pitch shots like Currahee Club does. One drawback to the layout is that the bunker sits between the hitting area for pitches and the green, so some coordination and care is necessary if more than a few of people are using the bunker and pitching practice area. There is a refreshment shack located at the driving range where food and drink can be purchased. Next to it is an outdoor seating area for anyone wishing to take in the view of the scenery or simply take a break from practicing. Golfers pass by this refreshment shack when going from 9th green to 10th tee. Electric golf carts were provided. As a practical matter, this course is not walkable. The green-to-tee distances are all long to very long. Many of the tee-to-fairway distances are also long. There are five sets of tees with the scorecard course lengths ranging from 5,051 to 7,394 yards. The course and slope ratings for men range from 65.9/122 to 76.1/151. This course is as difficult as the course and slope ratings indicate. The combination of forced carries, undulating terrain, large elevation changes, mounding, and minimum off-fairway forgiveness make it easy to get in trouble and stay in it. Come prepared to play or prepared to take a lot of drops and forget the scorecard. The course itself features elevation changes ranging from the small to the massive, as is to be expected at a mountain course. Most holes will have a notable uphill or downhill component with a few playing both uphill and downhill. There are a few holes that are relatively level. As is also typical of mountain courses, there are many long forced carries off the tee, particularly from the back tees. The fairway width typically ranges from wide to very wide, though there are a handful of holes where the fairway is of modest width. Generally, there is little margin for error if the fairway is missed. Some holes do have a fair amount of clean rough between the fairway and the woods or brush, but many holes have little to none. Balls landing in the woods or brush have a very high chance of being lost. On a few holes, out of bounds is located very close to the edge of the fairway. The fairways are undulating and peppered with mounds and large slopes, with most fairways throw in a fairway bunker or two for good measure. On most holes, the direction of play from tee to green is obvious. There are one or two holes with a blind tee shot. There are a few holes where the second shot may be a blind shot depending on where the tee shot comes to rest. On a few holes the direction of play from tee to green is unclear when in the tee box, though the landing area for the tee shot is visible. While there are some water hazards on the course, there are only a few holes where water hazards are a major factor. The greens are very large and well guarded with bunkers and mounding. Many greens are situated well above the fairway, requiring an extra club or two for the distance. The greens have a lot of slope and undulations. Some of the greens with larger slopes make it difficult to stop the ball near the hole if you are on the "wrong side" of the slope. The bottom of some of the green-side bunkers is well below the surface of the green, perhaps 15 feet, if not more. Surprisingly, the course only has a few holes with really good views of the surrounding area. Most of the time your view is blocked by trees. The back tees have the best views by far. If you are playing from one of the forward tees, be sure to take in the view as you pass by the back tees and be ready to stop and snap a photo when a good view appears. A couple of the fairways offer good views as well. You'll want your camera (and nerves) ready at the par 3 #17. My overall rating is 4* because the course had some rough spots on it. I saw a couple of tee boxes that I'd expect to see at 2* course and a few greens with conditioning closer to what I see at a 3* course. The fairway conditioning was close to 5*. Perhaps due to the inclement weather the day I played, the bunkers had not been raked by the course staff and in a few of the bunkers the previous golfers had not raked their own footprints smooth. Overall, I would play this course again and recommend the course to other golfers.

Review for waterfall grille (eatery at hole 18)…read more Have eaten here twice in the last month and really enjoyed it. The grille is at the end of the course and has indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is covered and where we have sat. It has an amazing view of the course. Service has been great both times. They seem to keep the right amount of staff even on days the course is being serviced or when every member is playing. We are members at another club and their service is always nice but sometimes they are understaffed. I was not expecting much from the food since you have a bit of a trapped audience with the club and course but I was really surprised at the quality and taste. I have had the burger and the blacked grouper sandwich. Both were really good (I think I liked the burger more because they do the two pattie stack) but the star is the fries. Like fair fries. Cut fresh. Fried. Salted. Skin on. Hard to resist and worth getting even if just grabbing a drink. The prices are a little higher compared to a Chili's or casual lunch place but with the view it is worth it.

Never in my life have I had such an egregious display of immortality and lack of professionalism in…read morean establishment that is supposedly classy. After attempting to resolve the issue with the establishment by speaking to Dee Dee Matis their mediocre Food and Beverage Events Director numerous times and after admitting to being negligent and careless with our property and wedding execution, I found it necessary to warn other potential brides in order to save you $30k on a venue that doesn't care once your money is paid. Our wedding was in October on a cold windy day that started off raining. Per our contract we were supposed to have firewood in the fireplaces along with propane heat lamps. Instead of being provided these obviously necessary amenities our guests and food were left to freeze. After the wedding when we called to complain we were told by staff we should have requested them which is absolutely absurd if you speak to anyone in hospitality management with scruples. Our cocktail hour was supposed to be in the garden, per conversations with Salem Addis their event coordinator, I was assured if it were too cold we would move it from the garden to the porch where there would be the heat lamps. Instead we were left with high boys being blown over in the garden (which occurred during the ceremony and setup which allowed adequate time to change plans and move the cocktail hour upstairs). Since it was too cold guests began to move into the dining room prematurely which did not allow our event coordinator to gather family members for pictures quickly enough. This caused us to be unable to get many pictures we planned, due to guests coming up to us to take pictures. We ordered the chicken and waffle lollipops which were supposed to have a sweet and spicy sauce drizzled on them and they were so dry and bland it was embarrassing. They were not the same thing we tasted at the menu tasting a few months prior, despite requesting ramekins of extra sauce to be on the trays passed by their staff. We had a slider display that I made very clear I did not want displayed in the garden if it were too cold (which it so very clearly was by the excessive wind and rain that morning) so our guests enjoyed cold sliders. My family and guests were told the appetizers would be brought to the foyer and after a long period of time they were served cold appetizers. I was escorted through the kitchen numerous times for outfit changes etc. where I saw staff packing our excess food (from guests who did not attend) in containers and when they saw me they whispered to each other and stopped. Regardless I saw many containers already packed. When I asked for the plated meals that were not served to be given to guests who were still hungry and to my family I was told numerous times by Dee Dee and a gentleman named Sam that the food was made to order and there wasn't any excess food (which is impossible for a large event and anyone respectable in hospitality management will confirm this). Many of my guests told us the staff was going through the dining room loudly stating how many guests weren't there and which meals to keep in the kitchen, clearly indicating the bold lies Dee Dee confidently told us. We paid an extra $2.50 per guest (130 guests) to have a traditional rice dish served on the side of the plated meals. We provided very large amounts of prepared rice to The Waterfall Club the morning of the wedding. When the plated meals were served, there was a small, three bite serving of the rice and the staff enjoyed the rest of the rice rather than it being served. How do I know they ate it? Because my family were told how delicious it was and were asked about the recipe. We very clearly paid for a larger portion and Dee Dee claimed it was two ice cream scoops worth of rice but it was very clearly not. Since my husband and I were unable to eat the appetizers they had put aside for us in the conference room, I asked they be brought down to our table by the gentleman who never brought them to us. My husband and I ordered a duo meal of a ribeye and fried lobster tail with spinach gnocchi which consisted of the hardest gnocchi I've ever had in my life which is sad to say at an establishment which claims to have a chef. The ribeye looked like they made one steak and cut it in half for us to split. The staff is photographed numerous times in important moments such as the father daughter dance and other moments where there was no need for staff to be present.

We stopped midway for some delicious snacks and even stopped at a gorgeous waterfall to take some pictures! Linc also made sure to take a group picture on the water during our outing. Great communication before/during/after - the three of us had SO much fun, lots of laughs! Would highly recommend!

I didn't realize that we couldn't drive all the way to the trailhead so we had a long hike in store due to me having to carry my toddler most of the time. I should have re-read the previous reviews before coming. My friend did help me carry her as well and for that I was very thankful. So definitely don't recommend this hike with a little one unless strapped in a carrier. Also, I don't recommend it for the elderly either. It's definitely a wilderness hike deal with roots and elevation change. In fact, it's mostly downhill on the way to the falls, but on the way back it's pretty much all uphill, which was not fun with aforementioned young child. It's about a half mile to the actual trailhead and then another 0.7 mile to the falls. That's about 2.4 miles round trip. The reason of course that my boys absolutely became enamored with this place is the large swimming hole. It is wonderful and has plenty of space. The waterfall itself is beautiful and although it's not as tall as others, its width is quite impressive. I was trying to get as close as I could and even noticed a hidden part of the falls inside of the rock structure. That was so cool!! The sand at the base and shore give it a beachy vibe. We definitely packed it in and out making sure not to leave anything behind as to preserve the area as best as possible. Needless to say we were wiped by the time we made it back to our vehicles, but we're still glad we decided to venture here. Coming back with my hubby and boys in the very near future. Happy yelping!

Riley Moore. Sandie is a church friend of mine and Riley Moore was her Great Great Uncle (I believe that's right). He once upon a time operated a grist mill here at the top of the falls. She's been trying to get here to see the waterfall, but couldn't find it and wanted to join us (along with her family) since I knew the way. Upon further research I discovered there are actually still remnants of the mill including visible drill holes, spikes and bolts. Thought that was pretty cool info to share! [ [ [ PREVIOUS REVIEW ] ] ] Riley Moore Falls is small in height but HUGE in personality. It's located off State Road S37-748, which is a nicely maintained gravel road where cars and trucks alike can comfortably traverse. ~~~ DIRECTIONS From Westminster, SC - DO NOT turn onto Cobb Bridge Road from Long Creek Hwy (Hwy 76) where you will see the brown & white sign pointing you in the direction of Riley Moore Falls. Our GPS had us go this way, then left onto State Road S37-748, but the road was CLOSED during our visit! INSTEAD, turn onto PU-32 also known as Rocky Fork Road. Turn left onto a gravel road near Rocky Fork Baptist Church and follow that until it dead ends @ State Road S37-748 (also known as Spy Rock Road). Turn right and drive approx. 1.4 miles (4 minutes) to 748c (aka Riley Moore Shoals Road). Park at the intersection of State Road S37-748 and 748c. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE 748c in a car or minivan. Low clearance vehicles will find the terrain on this road to be VERY difficult to navigate without bottoming out or getting stuck. I'd also recommend 4x4 capability on wet days! There can be several deep-pocketed muddy areas after heavy rains. ~~~ THE TRAIL Once you reach the intersection of Spy Rock Rd (S37-748) and 748c, park roadside on Spy Rock, secure your vehicle and begin your hike approx. 1/2 mile down the "primitive road." IF you have a high ground clearance SUV or truck, you can drive the primitive road another half mile or so to a second parking area near the trailhead. The primitive road is VERY BUMPY  and can be muddy in spots after heavy rains, so a 4x4 is best. After reaching the second parking area, follow the marked trail on the left!!! The trail is a little over a 1/2 mile to the falls from here. The trail is fairly straightforward and easy to follow. ~~~ THE FALLS Once you reach the Chauga River, you will notice a large sandy area with plenty of room for an entire horde of hikers!!! Riley Moore Falls is not very tall (only about 12 feet), but it is very wide and has a deep base pool. PRO TIP - Bring swimwear, towels and a picnic, but be sure to pack it in and pack it out. ~~~ THINGS TO KNOW Hiking Distance: 2 miles (round trip to falls from S37-748) Difficulty of hiking 748c: All downhill to trailhead (moderate return) Difficulty of hiking trail to falls: EASY Creek Crossings: NO Elevation Gain: 357 feet Waterfall Height: Approx 12 feet Access to top of falls: NO - not without getting wet Access to base of falls: YES Pool of water @ base of Falls: YES Sitting areas @ base: YES + sandy beach RESTROOMS: NO PARKING: YES (along road) + secondary parking area closer to trailhead for trucks and high ground clearance vehicles with room for about 6 cars. ~~~ [ FINAL THOUGHTS ] A lovely waterfall in any season, but also a great spot for a summer swim. While we had the waterfall practically to ourselves during our Mid-March expedition, be advised other trail website reviews say it gets trashy & crowded in summer months. Lake Chatuge is a beautiful lake located in Hiawassee, Georgia within the Appalachian Mountains…read more The lake like all lakes in Georgia is a man made and was created in 1942 with the Chatuge Dam. The name comes from the Cherokee village that was once located there. The total lake covers over almost 11 square miles and has a maxium depth of 144 feet. The most common fish here are the spotted bass, channel catfish, black crappies and large and small mouth bass. If you have children a great place to take them is the Towns County Recreational Beach located at 525 US-76. They have a playground there and a beach for the kids to swim and play in. They also have bathrooms, picnic tables, bathrooms and showers at the beach. For those who plan to come to Lake Chatuge beware that during holidays, like Memorial Day weekend the lake is extremely packed, which makes it almost impossible to fish off the shore with the heavy traffic causing too much wake.
