The grooming experience was a bit mysterious. There was a price menu online, but the groomer did not give any quote in advance. When it was time to pay for the services, they did not give a total, but asked what percentage tip we wanted to give. The receipt was emailed, not presented after payment. Don't get me wrong, all of the groomers at Serenity Pet Spa are talented and I don't want my review to come across as denouncing the incredible people that work there. This is an especially great place because they let the dogs roam around while they are getting their hair cut, which is less stress on the dogs and an overall better experience. I also understand that as I type this, we are eight months into a global pandemic and every business is constantly pivoting. However, after taking my dog to Serenity four times, I always leave feeling like my patronship to this business isn't warranted or appreciated. I also leave being told I will get a call later in the evening or the next day to schedule my next appointment, only to never hear from them which results in me having to follow-up myself a week or two later, which also puts my appointment at a week or two later than it should be for my dog. I don't want to say I will never go back to Serenity, because the groomers are so talented, but I would like to feel like a valued customer that doesn't need to fight for even the smallest amount of attention from this business. read more

Unlike other groomers where I have had to pull the dogs in for their appointments, my pups trot in happily to hang out with Caitlyn and others! Not only does she do my girl's hair perfectly, but she has adapted the grooming day to help my 11-year-old arthritic former agility jumper have a reduced-pain day. She bathes her and shaves feet, face and tail, gives her some pain medicine and lets her take a nap. Then when the dog is up and the pain meds are still working, she scissors the rest. The result? I spoke with the owner about bringing my dog there as a new client to get groomed. She told me that the only way she would get my dog on the books is if I committed to bringing her every 10 weeks! She is a large breed dog that only needs a bath and brushing every 3 months, which is recommended by my veterinarian. 3-6 months is the normal recommendation. Overbathing causes oils to deplete and is not good for their skin, which I explained to the owner. I was pretty disappointed to learn this after I read it had good reviews. Bringing her every 2 months in not necessary and it's too bad that they want to make more money off of you and know that finding a groomer right now is challenging and they are taking advantage of that. That is not good business practice. The groomer/owner should not dictate how often you get your dog groomed- which is also interesting since they say they are so short staffed and there is a wait list just to get in there... you would think that they would want to have your dog come less often since they don't have the help. I happily found another groomer that will accommodate our reasonable request to have our pup go every 3 months without a problem! Greed doesn't get you anywhere and hopefully the owner Lis finds the lesson out! read more

Amazing!! Having recently moved to Madison, I had to get a new dog groomer. I picked this one based on Yelp reviews, and I was NOT disappointed! Caitlyn was so kind and did an excellent job listening to what my dog needed cut-wise. I have a border collie mix, and he has that double coat that sheds in tufts during the summer if you don't get it taken care of. Whatever Caitlyn did, she nailed it because our carpet is no longer a furry mess! He is soft, smells good, and Caitlyn even gave him thoughtful touches like putting cotton balls in his ears so they wouldn't get water in them. He is hardly shedding- my back is very thankful! I also want to comment on the space itself. The dogs looked so calm and happy. They get to free roam and socialize with one another when they weren't being bathed or groomed. It was bright and cheery. My only complaint was that they didn't give me an itemized receipt so that I could see what services m pup received. All and all, my dog and I had a great experience, and we will be making this our go-to spot! :) read more

They are also numerous award winners at domestic and international dog grooming shows. Anyone should consider themselves lucky to be their client. They did a great job with my Bichon Frise! He's an older dog and can get really jittery during haircuts but they handled him with a lot of care. They didn't cut his hair too short which has been a common issue for him at other pet salons. The price was pretty affordable for the full package he got. My only issue was when first trying to schedule an appointment through their website, I got no response. I called a few days later and they got back to me the day after. They take great care of my boys, especially my older boy - making sure he gets in and out efficiently so he isn't delayed getting his medication (which he has to take 4 times a day for his heart). The great folks at Serenity love dogs. They pamper them, take an interest in all aspects of their well-being, and care that dogs are healthy and happy. That's pretty special. I have an Old English Sheepdog. It is hard to find groomers for that much hair. Serenity was happy to groom our girl and Jackie, the groomer, was eager to be sure that our sheeper looked her best. It is also nice that dogs are not crated at Serenity. After they are done being groomed, dogs wander freely with groomers, enjoying the company of other dogs and groomers- really nice. After we moved to Madison five years ago, we tried numerous groomers for our cockapoo Lupin and had to endure too many lopsided haircuts, smelly salons and sloppy artistry. Then we found Lis, who was then working on the far east side of the city, and our dog's haircuts took hours out of my work day (what with driving 25 minutes each way to drop him off and again to pick him up)... but it was worth it! Thankfully, Lis has now moved to the west side and has set up her own business: Serenity Pet Spa. Now we can benefit from her prize-winning grooming skills far more easily. Sommer grooms all three of my dogs and always does great!!! She is so kind and understanding of my wants and always does her best to accommodate. She has been so flexible doing any hairstyle I want and transforming my dogs into model worthy pups. All the staff is so kind!! I email often and they are very quick to reply. YES YOU NEED TO BE ON A SCHEDULE to go here. I personally love that because they book my appointments and I don't have to worry about it. Every breed is different as to how often they should be groomed and they have put my doodles on a schedule that fits them and a different schedule for my Bernese as he has different needs. They are not cheap!!! You pay for what you get!!!! I've taken my dogs to cheaper groomers and also got what I paid for unfortunately. This is not the place to go if you want to get your dog bathed a few times a year. This IS the place to go if you do not or cannot groom your dogs yourself and want them consistently groomed by the best groomers in Madison and probably Dane County. I did have one time I requested my doodles face be shaved very short which caused some razor burn. Sommer got back to me within 30 minutes telling me how to care for the razor bumps and then checked in on her a few times. They have also noted my dogs chart the length they can now do on her face knowing how sensitive she was. I still go here because I know things like that happen and they were so kind to make sure she healed up perfectly. Also on the price, if you've bathed brushed and cut your dogs hair - put a price on that and it should justify what you pay professionals. read more
