I met Rachel for 90 minutes to do a Quick Action consultation. We are finishing up a remodel that added a new bedroom/bathroom/laundry room and reconfigured existing spaces. Our house is currently a blank canvas and I was at a loss regarding how to go about decorating and making the whole house flow together in a coordinated way. We have a couch, two chairs and dining table/chairs but otherwise are starting from scratch! Rachel was amazing. We started with my top priority--how to decorate the existing but slightly enlarged existing spaces before moving on to the addition. We moved into a house without any living room furniture and decorations that could best be described (by us) as apathetic hoarding via parents who are downsizing. So we wanted to start fresh. A 90 minute QA session with Rebecca was exactly what we needed. Booking a session was super easy because of the quick and clear communications from the office. We received a reminder about the session a day in advance. There wasn't a moment where I was left wondering what needed to be done next or who would do it. QA session itself: Rebecca arrived on time and immediately got to work. She was great at getting us to prioritize what we should cover during the session, as well as guiding me and my husband towards an agreed upon design. With our budget and (short) timeline in mind, she led us to products in our price range that would work in our space (thanks to her incredible sense of proportions, practicality, and magical laser measuring tape!) She even was super mindful of the fact we have very active toddlers in selecting the pieces. After she left we immediately started to order pieces. It was a really wonderful experience - they were responsive, flexible (esp. as we debated endlessly on where a bathroom vanity should go), and landed us in a place where we are actually equipped to start this project. As evidence, as we interviewed contractors, one said that he had never seen a design document as good as the one Seriously Happy Homes provided, and it made the project biddable and doable. She doesn't tell you what table to buy, but she'll give you parameters on what to look for (Height, width, depth, types of materials to match your vibe). She'll also make a simple recommendation first before resorting to major things like remodeling a room, which is always good for budget purposes. (And your stress levels!) Absolutely wonderful. We were a little hesitant to hire a designer, we knew we needed one, but it isn't something we had ever done before and we weren't quite sure what to expect. We have been so incredibly happy with our experience, I am so happy to tell everyone about it! We met with Angela, and she worked to find a cohesive "style" between both of us, and then, created an unbelievable, and achievable plan. Along the way she kept us involved by giving us choices on everything, from throw pillows to wall placement. She never pressured us, and we felt good knowing that whatever we chose was ultimately going to work out great. (way better than standing in Pottery Barn trying to figure out what is going to work). I love the business model, that they provide you a VERY detailed plan (exactly where to hang things, etc) and provide you with the resources to purchase the items. This was perfect for us... it allows us to move forward with our plan at our own pace and also removed any sort of pressure, as she was not working on commission either. The design itself, is better than we could have ever imagined it could be! She nailed it perfectly. We have always felt like we were living in a house with a bunch of furniture in rooms, and that our home was too small. Really, we just needed to have a design, that reflected our needs and our style! We are SO EXCITED about every single detail. When we went to pottery barn to order a few of the items, it was fun to hear that someone else had just been in ordering furniture, who had also been working with the same company! Angela did a great job listening to every little detail of what was important to us as well. (silly things like where to put the dog bowl, were met with the same importance as the kitchen island or bathroom fixtures) Everyone, from the owner Rebecca, our designer Angela and their office manager/coordinator, Leah went above and beyond to make us feel special. I found Happy Starts at Home after a Google search for design services for our home. I didn't require a full-service design package, just someone who could advise me on how to make my home feel and look cozier and more put together. After looking through the site - I thought I'd start with a Zoom Design Helpline session. Not knowing what could be accomplished with an online interior design consultation on Zoom, I decided to take the risk. I thought it'd be the easiest route in terms of time and ease. I submitted a form on the Happy Starts at Home "Design Helpline" page. I included a few details about what I hoped to gain from my session and heard back from their office manager, Kel, within 24 hours. I chose a timeslot for my Zoom session and was promptly sent an email about what I could expect during my session and some tips. I knew each second of the session would be precious time spent with an interior designer, so I created a plan in my head for how it would roll out. Upon meeting my designer Shannon- via Zoom- for our session, I gave her a Zoom tour of our home. (This was not required!) I walked around with my computer so she could survey the space and get a feel for the "vibe/theme" of our home. I also shared pictures from Pinterest of rooms that I loved. After that, we focused on the first room I needed advice for - the living room. I had photos of the entire room ready, so I could screen share quickly with Shannon. As I showed her the images, I told her what I liked and did not like and what recommendations she had. She used a hot pink pen to mark areas/ideas right on the screen. After 30 minutes, Shannon had worked her special magic and gave me a fresh new perspective on furniture layout, rugs, and table colors/shapes. She suggested a piece of art (that is relatively inexpensive and has since been ordered) that I would never have found in a million years. Still, it is exquisite and works perfectly with the accent wall color we currently have. Shannon did not push buying all new pieces for the living room but suggested keeping what we already have, just moving some things around and making minor tweaks. Her advice will have saved us thousands of dollars (a new couch is not in our price range right now)! However, if we had needed advice on more significant furniture ideas, she would have come up with something! Then we moved to another room, where Shannon advised on paint colors, rugs, and layout space. Even simple fixes such as repositioning a hanging plant or two at different lengths or moving a table from X to Y have made all the difference. You can work with Shannon at your pace. I knew exactly what I wanted advice on, so I led the meeting while Shannon offered her ideas and suggestions. I tried to use as much of Shannon's design expertise in the hour that I had with her, so I kept the pace going, and she rolled along with whatever I needed and answered my design questions. I loved meeting with Shannon so much that I booked a second session with her to go over two additional rooms in our house. I love how Shannon pulls ideas up online for quick and easy suggestions for art, rugs, tables, etc. Honestly, the process has saved me SO much time and money. All the precious time I would have spent pondering art design, layout, furniture, etc., is now being put into the process of making easy fixes and adjustments and ordering a few things to complete the looks of the rooms. I have actually worked with more designers than I care to admit over the years and I love her for (1) her amazing ability to see what I am going for with some shared pictures (2) her decisiveness - oh, man, this is exactly what I need help with and she is really always spot on, (3) the to-do list I am supplied with at the end of the sessions. My current session is in multiple parts as we are doing something a little bit more complicated now, and I love that she is up for making the room just work. Oh. My. Gosh. Rebecca frickin' rocks! I work with people about money - including clearing out emotional and mindset blocks. But in ONE SESSION Rebecca helped me clear out some old stuff that I hadn't even realized was there, and changed my space forever. We were talking about how I don't like being in my apartment, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money re-doing it because I'd like to move. As we talked I realized that the large couch in my space was from an old relationship and no longer served me. I had a lot of memories that came up when I walked in the space, but it was really subtle. I was shocked I hadn't thought of it, but it's hard to see our own blocks sometimes! I replaced the couch within a week, and moved a few other things around. Even my daughter could feel a difference - she started sitting with us on the couch, which she would NEVER DO BEFORE. When we started, she asked what were the concepts we were after, I said: 'open, bright, elegant'. After we had painted the house a friend came and described the house in those terms without me mentioning them! Valerie's communication was top-notch in setting up the appointment and afterwards. She gave us great advice on the few problematic elements of our home that my hubby and I couldn't quite figure out a solution to. The only negative thing I can say is that I was instructed to use Houzz.com and signed up for it, made the "lookbooks" I was supposed to make, but then they never got looked at. I had forgotten about it, so that's partly my fault, but I also don't see why it was necessary. Anyways, the experience, on the whole, was awesome and rewarding! We've never worked with an interior designer before but were having difficulties figuring out how to best arrange the furniture in the smaller living room of our new house.
