This review is for their new interiors shop only! I stopped in during their opening weekend for the new shop/space on 15th. It's a big space, feels spacious inside and so well decorated. They have a studio space upstairs and a display room + shop downstairs. They have a smaller selection, but great to see options that are from a local small business vs. a big box store. Price ranges are anywhere from $500+ for small furniture pieces and up. Home decor and accessories like candles, frames and art are reasonable, boutique pricing as expected. Love that they have a parking lot as well. I'll definitely keep them in mind for when I'm ready to do some true interior designing. read more

We just wandered in here spontaneously earlier today, after a less-than-great private aerial silks lesson at Versatile Arts, which is next door to this cute shop. It's a beautifully-decorated shop, and the customer service lady (I didn't get her name) was super friendly and very welcoming to my husband and I. We didn't need any interior design services at this time, but we had an uplifting browse, and we bought a couple of nice-smelling candles, along with a wick-trimmer. Stopping in to this lovely little shop made our day better. I see here on the yelp page for this business that this business was established in 2014, however, when I asked the customer service lady when they'd opened, she told me that they'd opened in February of this year! I thought that was gutsy because I hadn't known this business existed before today, so I got the mistaken impression that the business was brand new. Perhaps she meant that this particular location opened in February 2021. In any case, I wish them all the luck, and I thank them for bringing a cheerful and uplifting experience to my day today! Please note this review is for their exterior paint consultation for $275 for one hour only. I was referred to them by my painting contractor. While I gave them a 2 star as they technically did the job. However, since it was a waste of my time and I had to hire someone else, I do not recommend them. I scheduled the Seattle office online with ease. On schedule, a design consultant (not an interior designer or Rebecca mentioned in the reviews below) arrived with her samples. I was super concerned after talking to her for a few moments that she did not have the experience, but I went with it. She seemed very on the clock and was giving me no more than 60 minutes of her time. We picked out the paints though I felt a little rushed that she did not take the time to really think about it. Long story short, all of the paint colors she suggested were way off. I called her and she sent more samples that were again way off. I again contacted the company in hopes of getting a more experienced designer involved but they sent me back to her again. I was thinking at first, maybe it was me, until I went to one of their competitors and had a fantastic experience. Plus, in talking to the painting company my concerns about her ability to choose paint colors were justified and it was very apparent that she did not understand the painting process itself. Below are the examples of why I do not recommend this company. By the way, had the Phinery allowed me to talk to another person as opposed to her, the outcome may have been different. These are my comments as to why I would not recommend them if you got the design consultant. 1. No knowledge of how exterior painting works. I tried to explain to her that this is not a new home and that they are not scrapping all the paint off to start fresh. It is also not standard to apply primer to a whole house like she assumed. That is not standard practice, and she did not understand. 2. No experience with how colors will look different when they are painted over each other and how wood versus concrete works. She did not understand that painting over beige may make the paint look different than had it been white etc. 3. Not bothering to look at the whole property. I hired her to help me paint my house and garage. The other paint consultant did a walkthrough of the whole property included the backyard where the detached garage was located. She never even looked at the side of the house and stood at the front door only. Never even asked to see the backyard which was critical due to the patio colors. I did not realize that she never bothered to look things such as the stone color in the patio, the trees around the house, etc. until the other consultant from the other company pointed all of them out. Also, she never even mentioned how the sun would affect the look. 4. Not taking into account surrounding properties. The other consultant was quick to point out that the colors she recommended were the same as my neighbors. She never even looked at the houses around us. 5. Side note-my consultant only knew and works with Benjamin Moore colors. She was not familiar with other brands. In summary, this paint consultation was a complete waste of money. If they want to offer paint consultation, they need to have someone with experience and if there is an issue, maybe get a senior designer involved. Also, for the record, she did offer to come out and take another look but given her lack of experience, it was not worth my time. read more

Like the most recent reviewer, I wouldn't recommend their exterior paint color service. I hired them twice thinking the first time it didn't work was my fault. The service is incomplete. Holding up a 5 x 7 piece of color paper in the rain is just an idea, but it's far from a conclusion. I hired her again, sent my current thoughts, and asked her to bring new ideas. She assured me she'd meet with the team, put on her thinking cap, and come with ideas. She came with nothing. At this point, I'd spent $550 for her and nearly $400 on paint samples - a gallon sample is required for solid stain. On my house, in sunlight, the stain was all wrong. This is what I mean by incomplete. Because like before you hired them, you are now on your own. I wrote to her expressing my concern. She wrote back that I was having trouble because moving color families can be difficult and basically blew me off. I'd expected her to talk with her owner and then I'd have a conversation with the owner. I'd previously told her of my intent to hire them for some interior design and procurement. I love their baskets, pillows, vases, etc. The owner clearly has very good taste in housewares. I don't find the service when you enter the store to be exceptional (you are often ignored) but when you do ask for help, they are willing and will order things for you and follow up. I have bought several pillows, a tray, and several baskets from this business. read more

Discovering The Phinery's website was a dream come true for me. Painters were coming to paint my house and I needed some quick guidance about paint color, had not found the right decorator for me yet. I searched The Phinery's webpage under services and found exactly what I needed, a one-hour flat fee service appointment to assist me with paint color selections. I made the appointment online selecting a date and time that would work for me. Three days later Rebecca showed up to my condo to assist me with color selections. Rebecca arrived organized and prepared; the process was efficient. Within one hour I had selected every paint color I needed to paint my entire condo and kitchen cabinets. Rebecca's ideas were fresh and creative, my condo looked beautiful a couple of weeks later. I reviewed The Phinery's service once again and decided I would love to have Rebecca return for the Interior Design Session. I loved the process and the next day Rebecca sent me a report of design notes from our discussions and recommendations include sourcing links, specs, and inspiration photos. I intend to execute our plan, leaning on Rebecca for additional assistance and guidance when needed. For someone on a budget or unlimited funds it is a perfect way to access an interior decorator! read more

If you are planning to paint or repaint your home, the Phinery offers the best service! I had no idea that a color consultation was a thing. It is and so we met Rebecca from the Phinery. She came to our home with a huge book of paint colors. I told her the color we planned on painting and we held it up to the wall. Then Rebecca pulled some similar colors and we held each of them to our walls and trim. Such a contrast! We finally narrowed our colors down to 3. Rebecca sent us an email with all 3 colors listed and we are painting our walls (near the trim and in different lighting) so that we can see them in all kinds of natural lighting. Rebecca never rushed us. She had seen all of these paints on walls previously and told us what they looked like -- if a blue base or pink in our case. She was professional, punctual, and kept her mask on. Painting your home is an investment and it will partially determine the atmosphere. Why not call the Phinery and get some help with the color? I am so glad that we did just that. read more

Repeat customer! First of all, please know they do EXTERIOR house paint recommendations too, not just interiors. We knew we wanted to paint the exterior of our house blue, but quickly realized there are a ton of different shades and tones, and had no idea how to pick one - Rebecca came for a one-hour consultation and made it all very easy. She had beautiful color recommendations (including a complimentary door color) and had all the info about paint brands, paint types, etc. and tons of practical tips I would have never thought of (i.e. Why not update the house numbers too? Little details that have made all the difference). It saved me hours of research and stress and the final result is beautiful. I just had a second consultation for our interiors. I have so much fun working with Becky! I had some ideas about how to decorate my first home, but felt lost on getting started and was intimidated about working with a designer. One afternoon I stopped by Becky's store; she is down to earth, fun and has such a disarming personality, not to mention a great sense of style. We've gone through almost every room in my house over the past several years. Sometimes it's as simple as Becky finding one piece to bring a room together - for us, this was a family room console that needed specific dimensions. Becky found a classic old wooden piece, then refinished it and applied a beautiful fixture. She is a master of putting a modern touch on classic/historic homes, of which Seattle has plenty. All the while Becky kept in mind that I have two young kids and incorporated that into selecting things - furniture, rugs, fixtures, paint - that is functional (and robust)! Now that the inside is complete she is helping me select paint for the outside of my home, emphasizing color and brand that will stand up to the Seattle weather elements.
