I've been dealing with service photo for over 25 years I've followed them to four different locations. To me they have always been the best show in town. Burke Seim, although he always talks a lot of stuff, always finds a way to send his customers home happy. His staff is superior 2 ne I've ever dealt with and they are always willing to help as well as very knowledgeable. Not the worst camera store I've been to, but most decidedly not the best. Maybe the other reviewers are experiencing something that I am not, but they generally seem more interested in standing around or yelling across the store to each other than actually helping. After a poor review about 6 months ago, I gave Service photo another shot recently, and I have to say that I am glad I did. This time I dealt directly with Burke, who was amazing, personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. A long chat with Burke was extremely pleasant, and did not feel like it drew on. He was just great. He was honest and let me handle cameras that I was interested in, and even gave me the information in a way that I felt he was not selling to me, but just talking. I will continue to use them for certain supplies, and will be buying a new camera from them, because I do enjoy shopping local, but, unfortunately, I have to continue to purchase my film elsewhere, for now. While I do not know the names of everyone there, I feel comfortable giving them a 5 star review, as well as pointing anyone in the direction of Burke, as he is a great gentleman who will show you a great amount of respect and knowledge. read more

It makes me so happy that there is an independently owned store (read: not RadioShack) where I can go for help with my camera and pictures. In this instance, my boss asked me to get an additional battery for our office camera, and so with my limited knowledge of cameras, I ran up the road to Service Photo. Everyone working there was lovely. They let me take my time looking at stuff, but knew exactly what I meant when I explained what I needed and read a string of numbers (read: camera model) off a sheet of paper. I had spent several weeks looking for the right lens to add to my collection. Narrowed it down and saw that they were a distributor for the brand I wanted. Since they are about 1 1/2 hr drive from me I wanted to call and make sure they stocked the lens I wanted. Of course with my luck they didn't carry that one. Next option would be ordering online but I hesitate to do that as I prefer to buy from brick and mortar whenever possible. The sales associate suggested that they had many lenses in stock that would work for me and that I should come in and check them out. So I jumped in the truck and headed into Baltimore. Nice little camera store. Had everything in it you could possible want. And much to my surprise they had just traded in the lens I was looking for. Lucky me. Instead of $500 I got the lens I wanted for half price. With a 10 day return policy I get to check the lens and make sure it's perfect. Definitely worth the drive for me. Excellent experience all around. I would have added a photo but they have a strict no photo policy. I know strange for a photography store to not allow photos. read more

I'm a working pro with 15 years as a full timer. The folks here are amazing. Always happy to show gear and talk photography. They have an extensive, dynamic inventory of used gear that is priced under the going rate. Also, the new gear prices are really close, if not the same as, big online retailers. I've bought plenty of new and used gear here over the years. No reason to get non existent support from the likes of Amazon and BH Photo Video - when you can get pleasant, professional help from a great local camera shop. read more

I'm a professional photographer, and we're really lucky to have Service Photo in town. There are a lot of cities without a pro level camera store, which makes it hard when I travel for work. What a wonderful Camera Store! I am new to the photography world and was interested in buying my first REAL camera. I had done some research online and had an idea of what kind of camera I wanted. I came in, and they helped me right away. They were so helpful in showing me the basics on how to use, remove the lenses, and how to navigate the settings. It was so helpful! He also suggested a couple affordable accessories that will make life easier for me. He allowed me to use the different lenses to see which ones would be best suited for what i will be photographing. What a wonderful place. They also said if I have any issues, to come back and they would happily help me with any problems or questions. What a friendly helpful place! This is a great store because they offer honest advice and good service. Yes, it would be less expensive for me to shop online (no sales tax and free shipping), but I try to buy from Service Photo because I want to support a great resource for photographers in Baltimore. If the price is reasonably close to what I can buy it for online, I'll buy it at Service. One of the best things about their store is their huge selection of camera bags and packs. Where else can you try so many varieties? You can't do this online. I encourage my fellow local photographers to visit Service and check it out. I have been to most camera stores, and without hesitation I would say this store outshines all others, mainly because the store owner knows his stuff and works along with his employees who also know their stuff, and they all give exemplary service to customers. Its a pleasureable experience for me to shop here. I would say to all store owners whatever their product, perhaps they should come down from their pedestal and do what this owner does, - get to participate in the customer service, but know what you are talking about to begin with. I would say that most customers understand that there is a profit margin that has to be made but what turns them away is that in most stores the knowledge of the product by the employees is very poor. I'll make this quick and to the point. I really wish I could give this place ZERO stars! Terrible customer service. I highly recommend you visit any other local store but them. There are a couple in Virginia. STAY AWAY! I know my money will be going elsewhere. * The seller says because I didn't go into "detail" my review is not valid. If you took your customer service as seriously as you say you do then we wouldn't be in this situation now would we. You have no sense of customer service. Customer service is where this place shines. Let's face it - the internet has made product availability a non-issue. But nothing beats face-to-face contact when questions arise. I was full of questions when I visited on 1/4/18, looking to purchase a DSLR body and lens. Suffice it to say that Avraham Bank went above and beyond to ultimately help me find what I wanted. I've got to tell you I didn't expect the level of customer service I received. I walked in and no one spoke I thought that was fairly odd so I browsed until I found something that interest me. I then went and spoke with an older gentleman who blew my socks off. I asked him 1 simple question "why are my pictures coming out half shadowed?" He knew exactly why. He stated that I must not have a Nikon Flash. After he told me that he gave me tutorials on several different flashes and why it's important to have a specific flash with specific attributes as far as electronical signaling goes when the camera communicates with the flash. Additionally he decided to give me information on lighting which helped a great deal. I could go on and on about his customer service. I can ensure you that it's worth the time to visit if not to buy but to gain knowledge. Aside from the customer service they have plenty of equipment to choose from. It's a 1 stop shop. read more

I wish i could give 0 stars. I went in seeking advice on an upgrade on my camera body, and was disappointed with the gentleman who helped me. The sales rep was condescending, argumentative and downright rude. I was shocked. I am only a hobbyist at this stage, but hope to grow at some point. I am a professional photographer and teach photography at a local university. I have been using Burke and Service Photo for over 35 years. What Service offers is information for the professional as well as the enthusiast. While other stores can give you service, they seriously lack in accurate information. Service's staff is knowledgeable about professional gear, most of the staff are professional's themselves and have been at Service Photo for a very long time. I have gone into Service many times looking for recommendations and they have always delivered. I have had staff spend up to an hour or more helping me with settings on a new DSLR purchases. Whatever I have needed, they have delivered. High level tripods, bags, lenses, filters, cameras, they have spent countless hours with me explaining what I need to know whenever I am looking for a new piece of gear. There is always plenty of staff on the floor and if I need to get in and out in 5 minutes, I can do that as well. They have accepted returns on anything I found did not work for me once I got it out of the store. Burke keeps his store seriously up to date on the latest trends, gear and equipment and if they don't have it, there is usually a reason why. I always tell students to go here, there have been too many unhappy purchases on line with no recourse, at Service, you have a local supplier who can exchange a purchase if you are not happy with it, or find it is not working to its advertised potential, especially on used SLR's. Why would you go anywhere else, seriously? B&H is fine, but you are not going to get the knowledge or the ease of return if it is incorrect. read more

Initially, they would have gotten 5 stars, but they have failed miserably lately. I was 1st contacted by them via e-mail re a seminar and fall sale. I was curious, so I went, even though it's over an hr away. I was very impressed with the staff, the inventory and the service on that occasion. Not so much since. I've had horrendous problems with backorders, service and staff members not only being uninformed, but rude and inattentive. I've spent way too much money in there to have to put up with that. I shouldn't be treated special, though. Everyone should be treated special. My recent purchases have all gone back to New York City. Burke really needs to arrange for a thorough retraining of his complete staff and the follow up with quarterly or monthly updates for them. Sorry, Burke. Two yrs ago this might have been a rave review, but you've dropped the ball lately. You are the captain of the ship. It's up to you to get the crew to sail the proper course. read more
