Updated to include the text exchange with the owner. I'm not trying to ruin this business, but I do want to be honest about my experience. I was referred here by someone I trust. I sent pictures of my hair and two options for styles I wanted. The owner confirmed that the person she had could do the style. Towards the end of the wash, the stylist asked me what I wanted, which I thought was strange. When I told her she said she couldn't do either of them. I chose to continue with the service because it was cold outside and I did not want to walk out with wet hair. The stylist tried to find someone else to do the style I wanted, but at this point, I just wanted to get my hair re-twisted and leave. I texted the owner about the situation and she apologized and offered a complimentary style. I asked for 50% refund. She refused. It really felt like a bait and switch and really truly deceptive business practice. I will not return.

She took the time to explain the process of having faux locs, how long it would take to have them done, maintaining them after installment, and when I should remove them. I took the locs out in 2 months, per Moni's instructions (I hated to remove them as they still looked brand new locs, not one of the locs came out, and I received a lot of compliments, and my hair grew 2 inches). On my second visit on 11/03/2022, Moni did knotless braids, and, bless her heart, this lady is so gentle and patient and gives 100% of her time to you. After we discussed about the color I wanted which was ashy brunette and after I agreed with the picture, Taylor proceeded to start working on my hair. My balayage color didn't turn out ashy at all but blonde and Taylor suggested I come back for touch up for toner after 2 months. I am not satisfied with the result as color was not what I wanted. This review is long overdue. Today I've decided to share my experience here at Locstar with…read morePaulette. I came here 5 years ago to start my locs. We started on the wrong foot, and ended on a despicable note. Paulette took a look at my 3c curly hair and insisted that it could not loc up with the coils I wanted. The other loctitian in the room objected to what she said, but Paulette shushed her. I felt this was wrong because armed with knowledge about safe washing, I felt my hair would remain in coils and lock up. I showed her a photo of my thick curly hair grown mid back. She proceeded to sell me on the idea that the only way my hair would lock was with her $400-$500 loc extensions that I stayed for 8 hours to put in. She wanted me to drive out for regular retwists for upkeep. At the end of this service she asked about my ethnicity. When I told her I was Jamaican and black she seemed shocked, and I wondered if her assumption that I was mixed perpetuated her incorrect assumption that my hair wouldn't lock. I lived about an hour away at this time, and could mostly only make it during rush hour, which meant I could not drive for regular retwists. This she knew ahead of time. It was also not not my desire to. I've cared for my own hair since age 8. At the time of this experience I was 24. I know my hair. I retwisted my hair myself between appointments. The extensions were quick to slip during the day even though I left them untouched except when twisting my roots. I came back a few times to fix the slipped locs. When I came back for a retwist, I asked her to keep retwisting my hair in the direction I previously had begun. You would've thought I said I hurt somebody. In the middle of a busy salon room, she stopped, and proceeded to literally loudly berate me in front of customers (she was .incredibly. rude) about doing my own hair. I was shocked at her behavior. The person next to me getting her hair done even looked at Paulette and said something about Paulette having to "teach me right." Excuse me? When I got home I proceeded to remove every extension she put into my hair. And I started over-- my way. Here are photos of the 5 year locs that couldn't establish without her $400-$500 extensions. 5 years in, they are almost touching my butt. I haven't lost a single one. If Paulette treats her customers anywhere near how she did in the past, I hope this review highlights a necessary area of where retraining is needed. You don't treat people like that, and you don't know the hair and head of somebody you met 3 times better than they do. They've had their hair their whole life.
