I am giving Sugar Shack a Five Star review. I believe they deserve it. It's a funky boutique salon, with all the looks and flavors you can imagine. Personally I wanted to brighten up my long dark locks with a richer tone. Opting for balayage style, the color has lasted in all vibrancy, its first three weeks. (They do natural which I was not truly sure they'd nail, they did; and do all other colors of the rainbow). Amber the owner takes on all new clients, does a demo and sets them up with her best. I was lucky enough to get the best! I'm going to stick with Amanda and hope the next pick me up goes even better. So so grateful to Amber for my gorgeous jamy purple hair. After experimenting at home with vivid colors, I accidentally used a hair dye that turned my hair eggplant color- in the sun. Black is a terrible color for me so I used two different methods of color remover . And only managed to get it to an auburn color. But that color also looked terrible on me. I tried a test strip of a purple dye over it and it would not take. I knew I'd have to bleach it again so I started babying it. And then I was volunteered for a work function this weekend! Panicked I called three places because I knew that I needed professional color correction. Amber was the most experienced with the dye I had used, promised she'd use olaplex and overall gave me a feeling of confidence. But she was booked! However, I got lucky she had a last minute cancellation and after 4 hours of testing, then bleaching, then olaplex, then the hokey pokey...I had beautiful purple hair I adore! Start to finish the ladies at the salon were professional and as I was there for so long I saw several color transformations, and I was really impressed. Amber also gave me a lot of aftercare advice to help me keep my hair healthy and my color vibrant. If you want fantasy/vivid hair colors this is the place. read more

Okay. Seriously. Sugar Shack is SO SO good! My youngest kiddo has recently gone to a short haircut, and the first go-round was ...okay. But not quite there, just "it's fine". So I started thinking about what I loved about the last place I thought of as my hair homebase. Funky. Fun. Not uppity. Highly skilled. Personal. Welcoming. Then I started combing (heh) through Yelp and found this gem. With that name and the photos of the jernt, I couldn't pass it up. We've just left from our first appointment, and THIS IS IT. If it were a dude I'd be planning our wedding. Brittany did the hair magic; the place and everyone in it did the rest. Every step of the way, she was asking all the right questions while clippers and scissors were flying about, carving out a BOMB-ASS new 'do. She - well, everyone! were just so nice. And genuinely happy to be there, which is always a huge part of the vibe - and that's such a big part of your experience in a salon. The place itself is just so flipping cute: pop art all over the walls. Neon accents. Hot pink work stations. Mid-century modern seating areas. Emphasis on pink beverages because Valentine's! I mean. None of that would mean much if the actual hair wasn't great - but it really IS. And it does. This is an amazing group of ladies, in the friendliest cheerful space. So I've waited to write this review for a month and half just to see if I'd change my mind about the hair I got from Sugar Shack, but I think it's time to share my experience, especially for any curly girls out there wondering if this is a good spot for you. I haven't had a hair cut in over three years, not even a trim (that's what having two kids under two will do) so I was really excited/anxious about getting anything done to my hair. It's naturally curly, super thick, and it was easily well past my shoulders. I called to make an appointment and was adamant about getting a salon artist that knew how to accommodate curly and thick hair. They walked me through the process and made me feel comfortable so I booked an appointment. I went in anxious AF and left my hair to the mercy of my salon artist. I was very specific about what I DID NOT want (please don't make me look like a triangle or add weight to my face) and asked to not cut so short I could not still put it up when needed. My artist asked if I ever flat ironed my hair and I told her very rarely. She said she was going to cut my hair wet so it would look good curly and straight. I agreed because I'm not a pro at curly cuts and I trusted her expertise. After talking to other curly girls, I know that was a huge mistake. I did notice it was cut uneven but she advised that my hair curled more on one side so she cut it like that on purpose. Long story short I left the salon looking like a triangle, with hair WAY shorter than I wanted. I was frizzed out before I left the parking lot because she didn't use enough product when she styled it. I finally flat ironed it last week to see if it looked any better and it's cut so unevenly, that the left side is at least two inches longer than the right. I didn't even get a good shampoo/condition because she was wearing fake nails and didn't scrub my hair. I'll say the atmosphere is cool; everyone is nice and welcoming and I enjoyed the art and music. I was just really looking forward to leaving the salon feeling confident and excited about my hair since motherhood has swallowed all my self care and body positivity but instead I left feeling worse about myself. I can't speak for the other artists there, but if you want a curly cut, do your research and maybe find a different spot. Will update with pictures when I take some. read more

My wife has been coming to this salon for the last year and a half. When it came to hair coloring they did amazing but when it comes to trims (which my wife only did once which was last month) her stylist (Ashley I believe is her name) did not listen to her and cut nearly all her hair off. It took her 2 years to grow it out and just wanted it layered. She wont give a bad review but for the last 2 weeks she's been in tears about her hair. So I am going to let it be known. My first visit to the salon was a bit of a disaster to be honest. I probably should have asked for someone specific but everyone had such good reviews that I didn't even think of it. So, I highly recommend asking for someone with experience (which honestly I think is most of the stylist there and I just got unlucky). But anyway, the owner Amber did everything she could to fix the color issue day of and followed up two weeks later to make sure I was happy. Since I was not, she had me come back in to fix the color herself and it was exactly what I wanted. The customer service is something you don't find most places and was much appreciated.
