If I were rating the massage alone, this place would get 5 stars. Sheila has magic fingers. I left my Swedish massage feeling so relaxed that I almost didn't trust myself to drive home. She never pressed to deep and read the tension in my muscles like a master. I was nervous since I used a Groupon--those nerves were for nothing. I had to take off one star because of the facility. I wish the massage table--especially where you rest your head, had been a bit more comfortable. I think a little bit of extra length or some more comfortable padding might help. It wasn't enough to run the massage, but my forehead was a tad uncomfortable for certain portions, causing me to readjust my position. Overall, I had a great time. I will be back. A part of me didn't want to write this review. Right now it's a hidden gem. If more people discover it then I might have a harder time making an appointment. So I went to this place after purchasing a Groupon for a massage, facial, and eyebrow threading. I guess I need to learn that you pay for what you get, and if you want quality service, perhaps you should pay more.. hmph. That being said, I had difficulty finding the place as it was not easily visible from the road. Once finding the building it took me a moment to actually locate the spa, as it was upstairs on the inner side of the building. Upon entering the spa, it was rather quaint, but that doesn't bother me, as I prefer more intimate settings. Unlike the previous reviewer, I have had several massages/facials and have pretty much determined what I do and don't like. Sooo I received my massage first and I must admit I was a bit skeptical upon seeing the masseuse. However, he appeared to be knowledgeable, and I appreciated the fact that he asked me about problem areas and allergies etc prior to the beginning of the massage. Well, that's where the good things end. The massage felt like a cross between someone rubbing lotion on me and rug burn. At one point, he was rubbing me so vigorously that I was literally shaking on the table! I addressed it with him, but it wasn't corrected. The whole process was just... awkward. The facial was alright, the massage was awesome (during the facial), but I was so completely turned off from the massage, that I just couldn't relax. As everyone else has already said, the place was a bit hard to find. They just need better signage, that's why I couldn't give all 5 stars. However, I had a great experience. This was my first ever massage so I was really nervous. I bought a Groupon for a Swedish Massage, Reflexology, and Aroma Wrap. When I walked in the place smelled great and the woman up front was nice (I can't remember her name). I filled out a form and was offered water but declined just because I have this thing about not liking the no taste taste of water. But I'm glad she asked. I then proceeded to get my massage. The room was small but not in an uncomfortable way just intimate I guess. Chris did my massage and was really nice. He wasn't all smiley, which I liked because that would have creeped me out but he was relaxed and calm which made me relaxed and less nervous. Like a lot of the other reviewers, I had some trouble finding the place, but the staff were nice about the fact that I was late on account of it. Upon walking in, the massage therapist and the woman at the desk were polite and amiable, but they weren't exactly warm or full of smiles. However, since they were nice and didn't make me feel outright awkward, it was ok. I'm somewhat shy myself, so I understand that not everyone needs to be super bubbly and warm to be friendly, but it does help me open up and feel more comfortable. The place itself is small and not very swanky (the outside of the building is a bit of an eyesore), but it's still a decent and relaxing environment once you get inside. The waiting area is not the most amazing I've seen, but there isn't really anything to complain about either. I really enjoyed the massage itself. My massage therapist, Chris, told me upfront that my Groupon included reflexology as part of the hour-long treatment and that he therefore wouldn't be able to do a full-body massage. I have really ticklish feet and don't like having them touched, so I asked if he could just do an hour-long massage instead and skip the reflexology bit. He agreed, which made me very happy. He seemed a little bit awkward (almost like he's shy) and, again, not very upbeat or full of smiles, but his massage technique was great. He was professional, and I felt comfortable around him. He did also ask me about allergies to lotions, etc. and offered me water at the end of my massage. Chris started out with light pressure and worked up to deeper pressure. The deeper pressure was uncomfortable at times, but not in a bad way--my muscles did feel better the next day. Chris used a lot of continuous gliding motions that felt less like hands and almost as if my back were massaging itself (this is a good thing), if that makes sense. There was good continuity and flow to the massage--no sense that it was disorganized or "on hold" for any period. He was able to tell where my sore spots were, since he targeted them without me having to say anything. He also applied a bit of menthol cream to the most messed-up part of my back, which helped give relief to the sore muscles. I don't think he asked me how the pressure was during the massage (I honestly can't remember), but I was happy with the pressure regardless. My overall experience was enjoyable but not amazing. I would go back at the Groupon price or for the discounted prices that they offer as specials. However, I would prefer to go somewhere prettier and more welcoming for the full price, since the full price is comparable to that of other places in the area. TL;DR (brief summary): Outside of the building left much to be desired, difficult to find. Inside looked decent but not amazing. Employees were polite, professional, and friendly but somewhat awkward and not very outgoing or warm (i.e. hardly ever smiled). I also used a Groupon and unfortunately wasn't impressed. I was running late for my appointment, but called and they said they could still see me. I was thrilled about not having to reschedule. It was difficult to find the location, but when I entered I found it to be clean and quaint. The eyebrow threading was a little more painful than waxing, but looked nice. My facial felt good, and I felt like she was very thorough, but my skin was sensitive and I ended up breaking out the next day. I didn't like the massage. It was kind of strange. Chris was the masseuse and to start he just kept his hands on my back in one place for what seemed like an entire minute or more. I would agree with another review that it felt more like rubbing than a massage. It wasn't really relaxing or enjoyable. My biggest complaint is that I was there almost 3 hours and not one time was I offered water. Cucumbers in the water would be optional. Water should not be. Then, during my massage, I was told how important it is to drink water before, during, and after spa treatments due to the toxins released during the procedures needing to be flushed. Before I went in I read the reviews here and honestly did not know what to expect. I have to strongly disagree with the previous negative reviews about the massage. I found the masseuse to be very professional, attentive, and soft- spoken. We only talked for a few minutes but he seemed like a really nice guy too. I was very relaxed and very happy with the service. The facial was great. I found that she really took her time and was very patient with all my questions. This place is a hidden gem. I found it when looking for bikini waxes on living social and decided to book a massage too. The massage (60mon Swedish) was one of the best Iv ever had. Super relaxing but equally hard enough that all the kinks came out of my back. I didn't want to leave the table. The bikini wax was great, not painless (I don't think that's an option when it comes to waxing) but I didn't have a single bruise or red mark. Iv been to over a dozen bikini wax places and every time I'm left with some painful bruising. Not exactly the sexiest. Not this time! I've been coming here for years! Sheila and Chris are fantastic! Magic hands. I've read some of the posts and am confused by some of the comments. This place is small. It's not luxurious but it is very clean and comfortable. I've been to facilities that are huge and beautiful with flowing waters. But when it comes right down to it, I personally go to get a massage and facial. I've been to spas that have amenities and decor but the aesthetician leaves me for the better part of the hour with goop on my face and steam wisping away, filling my nostrils with water. The massage is the most important part of a visit to a spa and finding a good masseur is almost impossible. When you find someone who is good, you have to keep up the relationship. Also, if there is something you want, or don't want, let them know. Sheila's facials are so soothing. Her fingers rarely leave your face. Chris's massages can get all the kinks out and he asks if they are specific areas that need more attention, is the pressure too hard, too soft, all you need to do is tell him. I've brought my friends here and now my daughter. Going to an expensive spa with huge facilities and getting mediocre service that is mostly done with accouterments is like spending a lot of money for a public bath. Pros: I purchased the one hour Swedish massage. It was the best one hour ever. Chris was very professional and gave me an amazing massage. Remember to relax during the massage. Chris will periodically ask you if you are ok. I promise you, you will want to go back for another massage. I was given a glass of water but if you are not given water, big deal. I felt too great afterwards to worry about drinking water. I always carry my own anyway. Cons: Yes the location is a little disorienting but when you get there, look at the sign that shows the door numbers, walk up one flight of stairs and Voila! You will probably do what I did and end up walking around the building at ground level before you see the door numbers but it is worth the extra two minutes to find it. Before I start, I just want to clarify: these are not Mark B.'s comments -- this is his wife writing a review. So...I went today after purchasing their Groupon, and I was really impressed. I read the other 2 reviews just now and am glad I didn't see them before, since they may have tainted my view prior to going. As a disclaimer, this was my first facial (and we shall see if I will break out over the next few days or not), but the entire experience of it was fantastic. All the steps in the facial process were very pleasant, and the massage at the end was heavenly. The esthetician/owner really took her time with the facial, and she was both knowledgeable and had very gentle yet efficient hands. I also liked the steam machine she used during my facial, and I thought the music they had playing was lovely. I actually took a nap while letting my mask sit for 15-20 minutes. It was really relaxing. I was offered water after the facial but had brought my own, so I declined. I had the massage next, also by Chris, and I thought it was a very authentic, therapeutic, and professional massage. It wasn't 100% comfortable at all times, but that was because he was using trigger points to work out the knots in my muscles. It was completely legitimate -- that stuff hurts! He asked several times if I was OK with the pressure, and I assured him that I was, since I wanted those kinks worked out. It's normal for that to be uncomfortable. The massages where they just "pet" you may feel nice but are not going to do much for your tight muscles. If that's what you prefer I'm sure he'd be willing to do that, but you can't fault a massage therapist for actually doing his job properly. I was again offered water, but declined, and was advised to stay well hydrated throughout the day Anyway, I just had to share my opinion since the other two reviews were a bit pessimistic, and I really don't see why. I will agree, however, that it's a bit confusing to find the place; it's on the 2nd floor of a building with many small businesses, but on the up side, there's plenty of free parking. It was hard to find. I too had a groupon. The locations is hard to find. It's on the second floor for anyone that still needs to find it. I found the woman who "greeted" me and who also did my facial to be very cold and unreceptive. She physically got mad when I said I didn't want any extractions. She sighed very loud and then again asked why I didn't want it. Why should it matter. If I say no, I mean no. A loud sigh will not change my mind. She had nails that kept scratching my face. I broke out about an hour after the facial. Why do they ask you to fill out a questionnaire asking if you have sensitive skin or are seeing a dr if they don't listen. First let me state the good. The facial was amazing. I have had many massages all different varieties from male and females swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy, reflexology and trigger point. This was not a swedish massage as stated on the groupon, Chris the massuse said it was trigger point, it was not that either, it was more like a gunshot massage. I am still in alot of pain from the clintching my muscles were doing because I was in so much pain from this "trigger point massage". He began by holding his hands levitated above my back for 2-3 minutes (a little long), then he started the trigger point on my upper back. I contenplated telling him to stop I can't continue this (only 20 minutes into it), finally after 30 minutes of intense pain I said "I can't take anymore" I have shooting pains up my neck, he said your doing good just two more knots. He was telling me about how he made a girl cry on her birthday and how a 6'6" guy got a deep tissue from him and told him he didn't want to meet him in a dark alley. Very unprofessional. He also repeated something the esthetician mentioned to me, which meant he was listening in from behind a closed door. It got even worse when he started the shaking my hands to his mid section, I was so uncomfortable with the whole situation. The music stopped after my alloted timeslot and he continued the massage, the phone rang and someone left a message on the answering machine. At that point I realized it was only me and him in the entire facility, then I was scared. The massage was so creepy, eventhough the facial was fantastic, I will never return. So, I got a groupon for this place that included a one-hour massage, one-hour facial, and eyebrow threading for a pretty low price. Disclaimer: I'm new to the area and had never had any of these services before so I have absolutely no frame of reference for standards here. So, first off, location. If you live around here you know that Baltimore National Pike is pretty darn ugly and is densely packed with businesses and strip malls. This one was really unique-- it's in a former Super 8 Motel. Yep. A bunch of business came in and took up rooms in this old motel or something. The Super 8 sign is still out front. So the location was bizarre and definitely weird-looking, but repurposed architecture is kind of the thing around Baltimore I guess? Now, the inside of the spa seems nice enough, though pretty tiny. Whatever, you don't really need too much space for this stuff in my opinion. So I went into one room for the eyebrow threading first, then the facial. The lady doing the threading (Sheila?) did not ask me how thin I wanted them until about halfway through, which I was really worried about, but they turned out great! And threading was definitely less painful, though more time-consuming, than waxing. Sheila also did my facial and in my opinion was the right balance between letting me relax and chatting a bit. I've never had a facial before but it was very relaxing, felt nice, and my skin felt great afterwards. After the threading and the facial (which was indeed an hour long), I went across the hall for a massage to meet a man named Chris. So, it's probably (no, definitely) my fault that I didn't think about who the person massaging me would be, and I've never had a massage before, but turns out I'm pretty uncomfortable with a strange guy touching me while I'm lying on a bed in my underwear. He was very professional and courteous and stayed within my comfort zones, but I think I've learned massages are not for me. I'm sure for someone who likes getting massaged it would have been fantastic, though. He gave me pointers afterward about which areas/muscles seemed to be the tightest and how I can remedy that, so like I said, definitely a nice guy, and I'm sorry he had to deal with my tense WASPy self. I bought a massage/facial/eyebrow threading deal through Living Social and was very disappointed. I was called the day of my original appointment and asked if I could push everything back an hour, but I wasn't able to do that, so I ended up going twice... once for the massage and a second time for the facial and eyebrow threading. The building is a dump. The second time I went, I couldn't use an outside staircase to get up to the second floor, where Setareh is located, because it had yellow tape across it, presumably because it wasn't structurally sound. I used an interior staircase, and realized the building was even dumpier than my initial impression. There was what looked to be a broken down photocopy machine crammed in a corner of the hallway. I've had a pretty fair number of massages and this one was not good. The pressure went from being practically nonexistent at some times to being downright uncomfortable at other times... but not in a "trying to get the knots out" discomfort which I'm used to. I admit that I didn't speak up to say he was hurting me, although good massage therapists generally detect changes in body language (i.e. tensing up muscles) to recognize that it's time to ask if the pressure is okay. The facial was not at all relaxing, since there was a constant barrage of questions designed to determine which products she was going to try to sell me afterwards and she made so many negative comments about how dry my skin was, that I wasn't using sunscreen often enough, that I shouldn't be using the brand of toner I was using, etc. that I felt like I was being admonished the entire time I was there. And now the eyebrow threading. I should have realized that when she only offered to let me look in the mirror after completing the first eyebrow and not after she was completely finished that there was a problem. While she was doing the threading, she was talking about what nice eyebrows I had... very thick, etc. When I looked in the mirror after I had gotten dressed, I realized that they were uneven. When I pointed this out to her at the checkout desk (although nothing could be done at that point), she tried to tell me that not everyone's eyebrows are even and she could only work with what she started with, etc. Individually each eyebrow looked very nice, but the arch on one was higher than the arch on the other. They have a small space but clean. Chris did my massage and it was good. I was glad that he asked me about scent allergies since I can't tolerate really scented oils and lotions. When I got there, the place was less than welcoming. The waiting room is tiny, and rather unwelcoming with broken glass in place of a mirror. The guy standing at the desk barely glanced at me, and then took about 15 min to prepare my room. When he finally came to get me, I asked if he would be doing my massage and facial, and he replied that they never scheduled the facial, and that I could reschedule if I would like, but didn't make any attempts to make me feel welcome. The place was a little hard to find at first, but wasn't too much of an issue. The woman who did my eyebrows was very nice and I think she did an amazing job. It cost $12 but was very worth it. Went in for a facial. Had a really tough time finding the place, luckily a kind mail-lady helped us. The facial was done by a lady who seemed to be really lazy. She just tried to hurry up the massage, the massage was weak and was hardly done for 3-4 mins. She just did it "for the sake of it". A lot of times businesses don't give the best service when they know you have some sort of voucher, but this business did not treat me any differently. Sheila made my face look great whenever I went. I would go for a European facial maybe twice a year for a couple of years. I found her after using a GroupOn. Now, I never was really convinced of the value of a facial for anything excep making my nose blackheads go away, but she made me a believer! While I have gotten facials from others in the past, my skin really looked luminous for quite a while after my visit there. Then the second time I went she introduced me to the GM Collin exfoliating mask, which I now use weekly. Now, really the twice yearly facials were tuneups! She explained about different skin care products (which others had done) and what i should use for my skin type. She hasnt been pushy, and the suggestions I took have been spot on each time. I purchased a Groupon package at this spa for facial, eyebrow threading, and massage. I agree that this business was difficult to find. I knew the general area, but couldn't locate it immediately. Better outside signage is needed to correct this problem. I had run into some construction traffic and phoned to let the staff know I'd be a little late. When I got there, I was welcomed most cordially and everyone was accommodating. The interior of the facility was small, but attractive. I was surprised, too (as another reviewer wrote)that the masseuse was a male. But, what the heck? The women masseuses I've been to massage men too, so what's the big deal? Chris was very professional and asked about body and muscular issues and injuries before starting. I bought the Living Social deal and was pleased to get an appointment this afternoon. I had a little trouble finding it too but got there on time. I was immediately offered water by the owner, Sheila. She did a great job on my brows and the facial was so thorough. I must admit I wasn't told about any of the products she used but she also didn't try to sell me anything which is a BIG plus in my book. Then came the massage with Chris. It was the best massage I have ever had. I am very out of shape and have a lot of aches and pains. In fact, yesterday, my internist suggested a Tempurpedic bed. I won't be needing one! I used an Eversave and had an hour massage. Chris was my maseusse Chris he was very authentic, therapeutic, and professional. It wasn't 100% comfortable at all times, but that was because he was using trigger points to work out the knots in my muscles. i had a lot of knots due to stress. He asked several times if I was okay with the pressure, and I assured him that I was, since I wanted those kinks worked out. This place is the most horrible place I've even been. The masseuse was very weird the lady @the front desk was very rough with me. I wouldn't call this place a professional. I had bought a groupon a couple years ago and i thought it was finally time to use it! I had Sheila Shahnameh for a Brazilian wax, and she was absolutely amazing! It was the most 'comfortable wax' I've ever experienced, she was very detail oriented and was extremely nice. Relaxing atmosphere. I would definitely recommend going to Sheila to get waxed.
