I usually love coming here, but today when I went I asked for a color off of a board "Ice Jelly" that I loved last time. They told me they had it, and we got started. Halfway through as they were about to paint my nails, they said they didn't have the color I wanted. I said it was fine we could do another color from the board, and I picked another. Finally, they told me they had no colors from the board I originally wanted. I felt rushed to pick something else, since they didn't have any of the colors I originally came in for. My nails also were uneven, and the job was rushed. I am now unfortunately looking for a new spot. I wish they would have been upfront about not being able to do what I asked for, before we got halfway through the manicure. read more

They said they haven't updated their pricing yet and I asked why would you have a sign that has prices and use it asking which service do you want? No one presented me with a pricing catalog with services, they pointed to that sign right next to the pedicure chairs. Then the man answered the phone and chose to pretty much ignore me while I'm standing there. Then I questioned again and they show me some book with totally different pricing than what they just said or what's on the sign! I am so disappointed and I was so relaxed after my pedicure, but that's now ruined! If your sign isn't updated, at least honor the price but they weren't willing to do that. Even though I'm old, the nail tech repeatedly used a harsh dremel tool that substantially thinned them from the top, then metal tools to scrape remnants of gel polish that dug into the nails and damaged them. I have been coming to Blue Ocean for over a decade and have seen many different technicians. I booked with Ann randomly several years ago and committed to her from that point on. She won me over with her extremely gentle and relaxing pedicures and her meticulousness and attention to detail with my SNS manicures. She is a total perfectionist. I've gotten solid colors, french, and ombré nails with her and they are always perfect. She spends extra time massaging my legs and feet. I just adore her. The salon itself is very clean, spacious, updated, and beautiful! I find it very convenient that I can book my appointments online. My only complaint (and I don't believe this has anything to do with Ann) is that she is often running really behind for my appointments. I wonder if the business should extend their service times so the technicians are not over-booked and constantly running behind. I am a hair stylist so I get it- every once in a while. But when it's 9 times out of 10, running 30+ minutes late for pre-booked appointments- something needs to change. I even called today to see if she was running on time or behind. I was told she was running 5-10 minutes behind, so I took my time getting there. My service did not actually begin until about 40 min after my appointment time. I treated my wife to a salon day here for her nails and when she requested they soak off her gel nails as they are thin...the technician insisted on wanting to drill them and actually got mad at my wife and made her feel unwelcome. My toe nails were cut unevenly. A bit overpriced for lackluster service and uneven work. The worst part, however, was the nail removal. I had a mani and pedi. My technician was Nancy. She did not speak to me. The pedi was fine, but when we got to the mani she was very rough with my nails. When she cut my nail she got too close to the skin and hurt me. She threw my hand back when she was done with that hand. I told her it was my birthday - no reply. She did not push my cuticles back, but painted over them. Polish pooled on the sides of my nails but she didn't fix that. I could have done my nails better myself. Disappointed. read more

We almost always visit Blue Ocean for nail services. They give the best pedicures around! The members of the staff are knowledgeable and patient. I never feel rushed when I visit Blue Ocean. My most recent visit was for a pedicure. I had Tris and she was so great! They are also doing well regarding COVID safety. Temperature checks right when we walked in the door followed by asking us to wash our hands. Pedicure chairs were covered in plastic, everyone in masks, and staff wearing gloves. read more

As a postpartum mother, I barely can find time to take care of myself. I finally managed to get away for one hour to get a pedicure at this establishment and I was really looking forward to a little treat for myself. Maybe I'm being sensitive, but I feel like part of the experience of getting your nails done professionally is the courtesy that the manicurist/ pedicurist shows you as a valued customer. I did not feel any of that. The salon itself was clean, smelled nice and looked beautiful. But the nail professional did not bring me back on time for my appointment , she barely gave me a greeting, she barely looked at me or said a word to me the entire time. Other people passed by and she seemed to talk to them warmly and smiled and laughed and returned to me stone faced. It was kind of uncomfortable. When she was done, she plainly said " you're done" and began cleaning up her space. She did not check me out at the register and did not wish me a nice day. So am I being sensitive or should I expect common place courtesies to a customer? So needless to say, my hour to myself left me a little confused and a little sad. She did an okay paint job however I got nicked a few times, and, to me, good customer service goes beyond a good job, the customer should feel happy and look forward to coming back. I used to really like it here. First visit since the pandemic, and won't return. Went in for pedicure and my daughter wanted SNS. My tech had an attitude and rushed through my service, and the tech who did my daughter disappeared in the middle of doing her nails for 15 minutes to help someone else, and then proceeded to cut her up with the nail drill. She was bleeding and she left in tears. When I spoke with the manager, no apology was offered- just "oh they just cut her cuticles but nothing will happen". WHAT? I'll attach the pics of her nails. Been coming here for 2 years and I love this place. My nail tech Judy is the best so professional and kind and definitely makes sure I get what's best for my nails with the look I am going for. But today...today was terrible. I normally get a full set but I went for a pedicure. My service started with my regular Judy, and started great. But then she went to do a manicure service which I expected and passed off to another technician. I have really thick calluses on my feet and need them to soak a while to to get as soft as possible. I asked him if I could soak for 5 minutes. That's it! And he looked smug and walked away. 5 minutes passed and he began another client. Never even came back to me to do the service. I asked who was going to finish my service if he had started someone else and at the moment the only person available. They ladies did ask someone else to do them but when she came she seemed irritated. She had also previously walked by 3 times looking but not saying anything. Throughout my service she did a great job but she huffed a bit and I could tell she didn't want to do my service. I'm so unhappy with todays treatment and will NEVER get a pedicure or any service done here that isn't by Judy. I love my toes though so the work they do is good. My experience at Blue Ocean Nail and Spa is worse than I've ever had. I received very painful cuts on the edges of my nail beds to the point where there was blood. I have received cuts from manicures every now and then, but they've never bled. My technician's name was Tanya and she was aware of the blood on several fingers from the drill-like tools that she had been using, and she did not apologize, she just continued to wipe the blood with her bare finger nail. Then, she continued to wipe the cuts on all my fingers with an alcohol wipe which caused excruciating pain. I was visibly in pain and was flinching a lot which she was well aware of. I have never been in such extreme pain when receiving a manicure and this is unacceptable. I am still in pain hours later. I do not recommend this place. The workers were not welcoming, and some were quite rude. 0 out of 5 stars. read more

I do believe my unfortunate experience was based on the nail tech I had. I went for a manicure and a pedicure. The guy went so fast there were patches in my nails that were see through. I told him and he fixed them quickly. I also gave him the color I wanted which my mani was supposed to match my pedi and they are multiple shades off. I made an appointment as I am not the type to wait. I specifically requested a gel mani with designs and a basic pedi. What I dig is that the basic pedi has a nice set of features aside from just the soak, and the cuticle trim. They have various upgrades that you can add too. The big day arrives!!! It is located off of Rte 40, in a small strip mall. I can't say that is really easy to spot, the parking is fair for the amount of traffic. Once inside, to me it was slightly overwhelming, there are A LOT of tables for services, and a separate room for pedicures. I was immediately greeted and taken to the back to get my pedicure. It was done nicely, I wasn't rushed, I was offered a drink, and today, it has still held up. SCORE! For my manicure, I selected a color, but my tech didn't know how to do or maybe didn't know that I requested a design. He also didn't know what I meant when I requested an accent nail. That was a slight bummer, I don't think that they were prepared for that. Regardless, my manicure was dope! It would have lasted longer than two weeks, had I not grown tired of the color. It lasted through gloveless dish washing, several sessions of crab picking and the BEACH! That certainly can't be beat! Now, if I can find someone that can do designs, we will have a winner! If I could this salon give zero stars, I would. This was by far the WORST service I have ever had in my entire life, to the point where I did not continue with the manicure after my pedicure was done. I have been getting my nails done since I was a very little girl and this was by far the worst of the worst. Tanya was the technician who did my nails and the quality was just awful. From putting me in the wrong room when I had booked the VIP room, to not listening to my requests of cutting my toe nails shorter with a clipper rather than a file, to using her own fingernail to scrape polish off my skin rather than a tool, it was just horrible. I booked the hot stone pedicure and the stones were BURNING my skin. I told Tanya they were really really hot, so she completely ignores me and holds my feet down hard on them - OUCH. My nails were not shaped evenly. It truly did not look like I got them professionally done. I kindly called and asked for a refund and was told by one person I would get a refund (after uncomfortably pressuring me to give the salon another chance), and then the next person tells me that I would not get the refund that was already promised to me. I hate to leave bad reviews but this needs to be shared. In addition, the salon smells of underlying cigarette smoke. Not only did I immediately go to another salon to remove my polish properly, I had to also shower immediately upon coming home to get the smell off of me. 0/10 I would never recommend! I normally get gel or dip but when my nail tech Dan introduced me to apres gel X I haven't turned back. First they're light as a feather so they feel like your real nails and therefore help your nails grow so much. Second, they last soooo long- up to 4 weeks. Each time I go someone asks what I'm doing and I end up converting someone to try these nails. I normally don't write reviews but I had to let people know about these apres gel X by Dan & his wife! June 2020: Things are beginning to reopen amid the Covid-19 pandemic and Blue Ocean has gone above and beyond to provide an even cleaner, safer experience. First, you need to email or call to make an appointment. They will ask for a $20 deposit through Cash App, which is taken off your total at checkout. Call from the parking lot and they will tell you to come in. They will take your temperature, have you wash your hands, then give you hand sanitizer before you can choose your polish. There is plexiglass in front of each manicure station with space for you to put your hands. In the pedicure area your party is separated by a tall stand with a sign that tells you about each pedicure and the new cost ($5 more than before the pandemic). In both the manicure and pedicure area the seat is covered in plastic that is changed between patrons. The staff are wearing masks and gloves and the people performing the services are also wearing face shields. This will continue to be my go to nail salon. I've continued to come here and maintain my stance on the excellent service. Trana has been doing my nails and pedicure and it's the best pedicure I've ever had, which is why I come back every three weeks. If you live on Howard County, give this place a try. I would recommend you make an appointment with Trana, Mimi (for nail designs), or any of the other staff you see listed in reviews. read more

Terrible!! Would never go back again. Nails were filed weirdly. Some are round and other are squared. Cuticles were bleeding and peeling. Polish is cheap and left bubbles in my nails after they dried. When I got a pedicure I asked the lady why she didn't scrub my heel. She told me that would be $15 extra. Wtf!!! The receptionist was very friendly and helped me to sign in. I walked in at 0930 and they had time for me to get a pedicure and SNS nails. The pedicure was wonderful. Everything was clean and all instruments were new in a sterile package. The technician was very polite and friendly. I am unsure of her name because it wasn't on her badge.
