Due to my need for relief from leg pain, I agreed to be seen by one Dr. Aziz, a Steward SETMA staff internist. AGREEING TO SEE DR. AZIZ at STEWARD SETMA WAS A BIG HUGE MISTAKE! Aziz's "waiting room" is a dampish spare room across the hall from the Check-In desk. Half of the room's overhead light bulbs were dead, so the room is dark. And dusty. TV mounted on the wall, ..."not in service" ... says a paper hand-printed sign taped to the screen. Floor and mismatched chairs: dusty. No security in waiting room. No phone. No room attendant. Occasionally a sullen woman appears out of the exam area, semi-verbally mumbles a patient name, then disappears back to whence she came. Aziz the internist was an hour late for our 9:30am appointment. No starched white lab coat for Aziz: he is wearing a rumpled, mismatched brown plaid suit (hmm, What kinds of bacteria are clinging to that wrinkled outfit?). Aziz wears no ID badge. After a brief discussion and a cursory exam of my hip, leg and knee, Aziz diagnoses my pain as being caused by my right knee. OK, thanks. I'll get knee replacement process started with my orthopedic surgeon. In the meantime, I ask, can you give me medication to help ease the leg pain? Aziz prescribes the drug Tramadol. But Aziz does not call in my prescription to the pharmacy. In fact, Aziz ignored my pain and did not call in the prescription to the pharmacy on Monday, nor on Tuesday, nor on Wednesday, nor on Thursday, nor on Friday NOR did he call it in even on Saturday! My pain was depriving me of sleep by now. But I made calls to Steward SETMA to chase after the status of my scrip every day, sometimes twice and even three times a day. Aziz and the woman answering the phone at Aziz's office were uncooperative and surly. On Thursday the woman began yelling at me, repeating that she could do nothing. Nothing! They sure know how to make a guy feel helpless... All they needed to do was call in the scrip. I even gave them Walgreen's phone number. Friday was no different. I tried on Friday to stress to 3 different Steward SETMA staff members that when Steward SETMA closes at noon, I'll remain in pain all weekend. And still, nobody called in my prescription. Nobody cared. ADVICE: Steward SETMA is NOT the SETMA of Dr. Holly! Stay away from Steward SETMA. The owner Steward Health Care, LLC owns clinics in other States that have BBB ratings of B- or less. In Boston patients filed 26 total BBB complaints in the last 3 years 2017, 2018,2019. So I booked an APPOINTMENT (which it clearly states on their website) for 6pm. Got there just to be told it's not actually an appointment and I'd have to wait behind the 7 others that got there 30 minutes ago - and the wait was still going to be around 2 hours with 1 provider there. What a wreck. Save yourself the time and go elsewhere.

My over all personal patient experience at Baptist Cancer Center is a positive one, yet there are…read moresome small differences from being a patient at BCC compared to being a patient at Texas Oncology. For Instance, Baptist is very busy and therefore I personally get the feeling of being just another patient to the staff and nurses and sometimes a little rushed, unlike Texas Oncology where there was never a check in line and by the second visit the entire staff knew you and called you by your first or last name, which ever you preferred and the overall atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. The wait time to be checked in at Baptist may at times have you standing in line waiting anywhere from 10- 35 mins. For instance today, my appointment was at 11 with only two individuals in front of me. I wasn't checked in for my appointment until 11:35 both front desk clerks were busy trying there best to answer questions to those ahead of me as well as had to stop and answer non stop phones rining. I felt they were doing the best they could but it made for a long wait. Once checked in, I was taken back to a room within less than 5 mins. The nurses are always friendly and the rooms are always clean and lots of reading materials to bid your time, waiting for your doctor, at Texas OC, your wait to be taken back after checked in can be up to an hour. I waited for about 8 mins before seeing the doctor, at TOC I've waited over an hour. Both the doctors at Baptist and TOC have exceptional bedside manner. Very personally, very kind, and make you feel as though you are top priority. The only negative I have about Baptist is the Chemo/treatment area; is very crowded with very little room for friends or family without you having the feel that you're sitting on top of the next patient. However I don't think they would ever deny anyone from having family or friends with them. At TOC, it's spacious and the patients feel free to socialize openly with one another as well as their families. All in all both cancer centers are amazing and I highly recommend either one.

I found that nearly all the staff involved with my grandmother's surgery communicated with us…read moredisrespectfully and had very little bedside manner or regard for human emotion. The aide on the bariatric floor never responded to my grandmother's call button, even after 30 minutes, until one of us walked down to the nurses station ourselves to find that she was coloring pictures. When the charge nurse, Judy, was asked about this, she responded in a rude manner and provided no help. My grandmother was in extreme discomfort and could not get to the bathroom by herself. Once the aide came to our room, she said absolutely nothing to any of us and waited for us to pick up my grandmother and her IV stand by ourselves then left the room without any help being provided. If it wasn't for our nurse and our own ability to stay around the clock to provide my elderly grandma assistance, she would not have received even close to adequate care. I am very disappointed with the staff's behavior and would not recommend that anyone allow their families to receive care from these people.

I put on the "CAM" boot when I got home so I could get from my bedroom to to the bathroom and kitchen without falling. Little did I know that the Anastasia didn't ware off until after 8pm that night. When it did I was in extreme pain every with the pain meds. I removed the book only to discover that my bandages were soaked in blood. I went back to the emergency room at about 10pm that same day. The ER staff was great. They examined the wound and rewrapped it. No trouble, other than the normal pain since then. Thanks to the "Medical Center Of Southeast Texas for helping me.
