There is simply nothing like it around. I was a solo traveler (33F) from NY never having been to MT or out west - reading reviews online I liked that the ranch didn't seem to be like a "mill" and looked like more of an individualized experience & boy was everyone right. I was immediately put at ease before I even booked when I called the ranch and Melissa spoke with me right away answering all of my questions - she is extremely knowledgeable, responsive & informative. Upon booking she sent a bunch of information for packing/activities/etc. - there were absolutely no surprises and I felt very prepared for the trip & of what to expect - if you miss something it's because you didn't read it carefully & that's on you! My cabin immediately felt like home - it was cozy, clean, and beautifully decorated. There is so much charm to the ranch. Every meal was better than the next. Melissa, Kurt, & the wranglers are the real deal - they know the country better than the back of their hand & I was so impressed by them all. Having never experienced this kind of country I quickly went from being apprehensive to eager to go out every day and explore simply because of how at ease the wranglers made me feel. Kurt & Melissa have a real talent for reading horses & people and paired everyone PERFECTLY with their horses for the week as well as the group I rode with. I have never seen better cared for/happier horses in all my years of riding - I don't even want to say my horse's name here (& I won't) because I selfishly want her for the next time I go but she was really just such a great horse. There are not enough words or space in this review to say how much I loved this ranch and how much I appreciated the kindness and warmth Melissa, Kurt, their 2 boys, the guests, animals, and the entire staff of the CWR showed me. Our trip to Montana was amazing, and the first evening started with stay here. Ms Nance and Richard are such warm hosts. At breakfast they are a fountain of information about Gardiner and the Park. Breakfast was a wide array of delicious choices, and Ms Nance is quick to adapt to your tastes if you stayed multiple nights. But Pro-Tip, tell her ahead of time if you have a particular want. We had a private room with a bathroom. It was very comfortable and warm. Especially considering it was below zero at the time. They also leave out tea and snacks downstairs, so We enjoyed a cup of hot tea as we warmed up from our walk. Location! This wonderful home couldn't be closer to the park entrance. As well, they are walking distance to the local restaurants. It was the start of winter so I didn't get a chance to take advantage of fly fishing, but Richard owns Parks Fly Shop, just around the corner. Book a stay here! You will love it!

I left with a new family, including the staff and guests. Linda and KT make you feel at home the second you arrive. If you're looking for fancy -- this is not your kind of place. If you are looking for food fit for a foodie created by Chef Michael and a riding experience lead by Jim and his crew or if you want to just gaze out at the beauty, serenity and natural surroundings, then this is your place. I have been riding a long time and have never experienced such a well run, organized and fulfilling riding program...ever! Elkhorn Ranch has a rich 100 year history -- celebrating this coming year. The original families are still involved. You sit on the porch of your cabin with no cell phone or ipad becuase there is no service. You unhook from the workd --- not an easy task. The land is sacred, beautiful and rustic. I was able to take my first deep breath in a long time. Thank you Elkhorn Ranch for making me a part of your family. I will be back with friends.

This a fantastic true ranch experience with great food, fantastic people, breath taking views that kids and adults will love and remember for years. All the lights need to be turned on manually, and even when they are all on it still seems dark. There are no black out shades....so, boom, you get to wake up to full light...no sleeping in here. Every tithe neighbors close the door it makes a slamming noise that goes straight to your bones. Small television inside a wooden cabinet. The shower has some kind of cheese cloth curtain that absorbs then drops all the water on the ground, leaving puddles behind. The bathroom even has a sign telling you to put a towel on the ground. Long story short, updates are needed. I won't go through all the shortcomings of this place, I'll just say it seems a bit expensive for what you get. On the bright side the reception people are very nice and the morning continental breakfast us good enough. It's within walking distance of local restaurants. Last thing I need to say...don't even look at the hot spa on the side of the building.

I had to put shoes on when getting out of the shower to keep my feet from getting dirty. We had to sleep with a cover over our face because the carpet had a horrible stinch. When we made manager aware he got defensive and said they would send someone to clean but they never did. Questionable people smoking pot next to room. Air so loud it sounded like a jet taking off. We had to rig the door because it wouldn't lock. It is horrible. Do NOT stay here.

It would be within walking distance of a good breakfast place and the Market, too, if I hadn't gotten sick. The woman who checked me in at the office was kind-hearted and another young man was patient with me when I couldn't return the TV to normal after not having read the perfectly clear instructions they provide about operation of the remote control in the perfectly obvious notebook. The pillows are wonderful and I'm feeling like I'm on the mend, but I really do just want to get home now.

The cottages are decent sized too and had what we needed. The kitchenette was perfect size. The pans/pots/dishes are all available at the front desk (just gotta ask). Staying here, don't expect it to be fancy. It's a little old fashioned and no frills.

The bathtub and the sink were clogged. I went straight to the lobby and asked whether it can be fixed. The guy noted down the room number; but mentioned that the repair guy may take some time. If it can be done before 10.30pm, I told him to call the guy. He called the repair person right in front of me and told me that he would be arriving in 20 mins. We waited till 10.30 and nobody showed up. Went back to the lobby; he said he has already sent the repair guy to our room and surprisingly he was told that no service was required. I asked him the room to which he had sent him. He said a different room, one level above us. I figured out that he messed with the room number. I saw him writing down the room number, so asked him to show me the paper still on his desk. He looked at it and said he didn't write anything down. He was lying through his teeth. Even though he offered to call the service guy again, I told him not to since it was already too late.. Overall experience - OK. Service - I would say terrible. When you charge the customers close to $300 for night, at least take the responsibility for providing a better service. Big thumbs down!

At the end of our stay, we knew we wanted to have a home in Paradise Valley, just like theirs. Everything was just so perfect! Their home is nestled in Paradise Valley against the Yellowstone River, very near Mt. Emigrant. We awoke every morning to breathtaking views of the mountains and vibrant yellows and oranges as the trees surrounding their warm, welcoming log cabin began to slowly change colors in the early fall. We would open our door and immediately be overcome with the amazing aromas drifting down from Carol's kitchen. We would go up and be greeted jovially by Carol as she finished cooking breakfast. She would pour us fresh, hot coffee and welcome us to have a seat at the beautifully-decorated table. We would chat with the other couple staying at the B&B, getting to know them. Carol would serve a wonderful breakfast, typically fresh fruit salad of peaches, blackberries, raspberries, and cantaloupe with her homemade dressing, and some sort of hot, sweet casserole: rice pudding, bread pudding, berry crisp, or a pastry. She and Pete would join us as we enjoyed Carol's creations and her fresh orange and banana juice. All of the guests we met loved everything Carol made (including us). They raved about how delicious it was, and sat back to digest, thinking they would rest a while and then start their day of exploring Yellowstone, or head to on their way to one of the parks. But this was no normal B&B. Carol would get up and clear our plates, only to bring back a second course more decadent than the first: pancakes with huckleberry or homemade chokecherry syrup and sausages, Eggs Florentine, or maybe one of her quiches... Carol treated us like royalty. We always had a hard time finishing our meals, but it was never because we didn't want to. It was because we were just too full to eat another bite! Pete and Carol always made sure there was plenty of food, and sometimes insisted we take leftovers with us when we ventured out into the park. Pete always made sure we knew where we were going in Yellowstone. He gave us maps and helped us plot out our trips into the park, telling us the best places to stop and where we would be most likely to see wildlife. Thanks to his recommendations, we have lots of great photographs of a variety of wildlife, and beautiful photos of ourselves in the scenery to remember our honeymoon by. He helped us spend our time the most efficiently, and we can't thank him enough for it. When we returned to the B&B in the evenings, Carol or Holly would usually have an evening treat for us: milkshakes, homemade German Chocolate Cake, or maybe just a glass of wine to top off the day while we sat on the deck to watch the sunset. It was... paradise. Most couples we met had only made a reservation for one night, but fervently expressed that if they had known how wonderful their experience would be, they would have booked a longer stay. We have every intention of going back to Paradise Gateway the next time we take a trip to Yellowstone. With as much attentiveness and care as Pete, Carol, and Holly showed us during our brief time with them, we won't even think about looking to book a night anywhere else.
