HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Completely UNPROFESSIONAL and WOULD NOT recommend this place to anyone. I signed up for the beginners sewing class. The class is not structured for beginners. The pace is too fast, they don't go over the basics, they speak to you as if you should know what you're already doing or should know terminology that a beginner wouldn't know. More than half of the class each week walks out with unfinished projects and during the class you can see on our faces and in our body language that most of us felt stressed, overwhelmed and frustrated by the lack of instruction. On the first class we were told to "go to YouTube to see how to finish" our pillows. The schedule was supposed to be from January 10 - April 18 with 3 dates on which we wouldn't have class (January 17, February 14 and April 4). They refused to cancel the class on January 31st even though driving conditions were terrible because of the ice storm - so those of us who chose to prioritize our safety already missed a class and it was impossible to catch up the next week given the pace. Then on February 13th I receive an email saying we have class tomorrow on the 14th. I emailed back and said no, that is not what the schedule says and I cannot make a class since I had other plans. They then said they have to CHANGE THE SCHEDULE (FOUR WEEKS INTO THE CLASS) due to "instructor availability." I explained that as a busy wife and mom who has a very busy job I cannot continue with the new schedule and try to do make up classes. I explained that after FOUR WEEKS of class I still did not know sewing basics because they were NEVER explained. After FOUR WEEKS I still could not thread my needle or refill my bobbin unassisted because of the lack of instruction and pace of the course. I asked that they refund my money for the rest of the course (I said I was happy to pay the $200 for the 3 classes I attended and the 1 missed due to the inclement weather) but I couldn't continue due to the schedule change. They have refused to refund the $400 for the remaining classes. They tried to point to their no refunds policy - but that is VOID because THEY breached the agreement by unilaterally changing the schedule. So I am now in a battle with them for my money - because THEY changed the schedule because it appears that THEY did not properly plan to ensure they would have coverage for the classes. It's so unprofessional and completely ridiculous. Also their "instructors" may be able to sew...but there is a lacking in the teaching part. Only ONE instructor explained things and that was the only week I came home with a finished project (but I had to stay an extra 30 minutes to be able to complete it). And their "customer care" person Julie is TERRIBLE at her job. Despite the name - they do not seem to actually CARE about their customers. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU RUN A BUSINESS. I really wanted to support this local small business - but they have made that impossible. I was so excited about this class, but they have taken what was supposed an enjoyable experience and ruined it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND that you patronize their business. read more

I happened upon Sew Creative while driving down Rhode Isl Ave. I thought I would check it out, and I am glad I did. I haven't had this much fun in a long time. It's challenging and creative for someone who hasn't done much sewing. However the teachers (Ms. Carrie and Ms. Paulette) have the patience of saints and provide clear and helpful guidance. I finished a pillow, tote, and pj pants in the 4 week class. Note they provide the machines, tools, and material for your projects. All you have to do is provide the will to learn. I will be taking their follow up classes and probably some of the workshops. After this class I really feel more confident in taking on some small home projects. Attended this place for a Sip and Sew themed event a few weekends ago. I'm new to sewing and wanted to find a place where I can learn to sew and do it in a fun, creative location. Had a blast! From start to finish we were taught to make a Beyoncé themed pencil skirt. The instructors were very instructive and polite. It was a packed house and fun group. Also helped that there was a great Beyoncé playlist to listen to. I plan to take classes at Sew creative. Glad I found this place. read more

I enjoy doing finding different things to do for my birthday so I had been hearing about Sip and Sew and thought that would be a cute event. When I looked them up they were actually having their 1 year anniversary party. So I told my friends to get their tickets because this is how I wanted to celebrate. They had food, wine and a DJ spinning Afro-beats and I brought cup cakes for my group. In addition to us sewing they had other stations such as bow tie making station, waist beed station and jewelry making station. One would think sipping and sewing would be a bad combination but you are given 2 drink tickets to drink in moderation so you are still sober enough to create your project. We made asymmetrical skirts. I had so much fun that I recently just purchased a sewing machine because I would like to sew more. FYI: This is a great class for beginners. None of us had any prior sewing experience with the exception of when I sewed a bag in my high school home economics class read more

I am a beginner sewer and was looking for online classes. I came across Sew Creative Lounge and reached out to them via the chat window on their website. When I clicked on the chat window the message displayed read "We reply immediately". I submitted my question and after several minutes received a response asking me to send an email. After a few days I received a strange message that had nothing to do with the questions I sent for response. A few days later received a second email directing me to their adult sewing classes. I never a received a response to questions. I decided to try the chat window again. When I tried the chat window a 2nd time I didn't receive a response at all. I took this as an indication of how they run their business and decided look elsewhere. read more

The Sew Creative Lounge located in Mt. Rainer, MD is worth a visit or several. I'm leaning on several. My cousin invited me to a Sip and Sew class where every student left with a wearable garment, including ME! I was thoroughly impressed because it is rare that I accomplish that at home. The classes are no pressure classes, any pressure felt is self-induced. The instructors are informative and very encouraging. The students vary in sewing skills and knowledge from the beginner to the seasoned. I enjoy the fellowship of other sewist and learn something new from each class and I really enjoy the vision of those I share the classroom with. I've been looking for a space like Sew Creative Lounge for a long time. Ladies, thank you for your vision! One Sip and Sew Class, Beginner 1 and now Beginner 2. I'd say I'm enjoying my stay here. I was looking for a place to learn how to sew when I came across sew Creative Lounge. I looked on their website to see what they offer. I noticed they were having a three day sewing boot camp so I requested information about it. Cecily the owner emailed me right away. I asked if this boot camp would be a good fit for me being that I have almost no experience with sewing. She told me that the boot camp was definitely the place for me. She said there would be instructors available to help and that they've created an environment where everyone helps each other. I signed up, payed $300 for three days. Then I realized that there was no schedule or list of things I would need posted, so I emailed her asking about it. She never replied. The day before of the class I received an email with a schedule that seemed crazy. First two days we arrived at 8:00 am and the day ended at 12:00am third day 8:00am to 5:00 pm. Day one Cecily was no show but the instructor available was great, she told me everything I needed to buy for my project and helped me understand everything I needed to do the second day she continued to help on the third day Cecily was there, I showed her what I was working on, showed her the pattern and all the pieces I had cut and the ones I started to put together however when I asked for guidance on the next step she told me to keep sewing although I was clearly stuck. I expressed that I was not sure how to proceed she responded by saying that she walked in in the middle of a project so she didn't know what I wanted from her. I sat at my machine thinking what would be the best move. I gathered all my things packed them and started walking out. Cecily called me back and suggested that the best class for me would be open studio because there would be an instructor there to guide me. I was so confused being that I asked her before I signed up if the boot camp would be appropriate for an amateur and she replied yes! I honestly don't ever want to set foot in that studio again which means I wasted a $100 in fabric I have no use for. I'm giving it two stars only because the instructor the first two days was great. I mean Cecily being the owner should try a little bit harder to help newbies like me. read more

I didn't like the teachers very much. I didn't like the teacher miss mona. I felt like she didn't know what was going on and never really gave good directions. I had a daughter in the summer group. I just can't go back. The pricing was very high and compared to the wage that I make its hard to pay for things like that. You have to pay to get snack. That much that I pay should cover snack. I understand that we have buy supplies in the beginning but snack really. Last thing I think miss mona needs to put on deoterant. You can't expect for people to come to a place that has smelly workers just doesn't make any sense. read more

I really enjoyed my experience here. I was with Rhonda and she taught me to make a skirt. Her instruction was simple but clear and I really enjoyed the class. Fabric and all supplies were provided. Really a great deal for three hours of instruction. A hidden gem! read more
