Unfortunately I had a really bad experience with Katherine at Sew It. I took my wedding dress in for alterations, the dress was hemmed too short (she said it just wasn't pressed), it was too short after pressing. Bra pads were sewn in but edges were visible. Embellishments were sewn in the wrong spot (I had explained and showed her a photo of what I wanted and they would have fit if sewn on like I requested), they were also loose and not secure. The bustle buttons were sewn on crooked and did not match the dress, but she said "that's all I have". When I addressed these concerns at my appointment, she dismissed them, I did not feel good leaving my final appointment. She has refused to work with me on making this right. I requested a partial refund on an $800 alterations bill, thinking that was fair, she refused. The dress was unwearable and I had to purchase a new dress at the last minute! I wish I wouldn't have paid her in full. She told me on May 27th that she'd be back in town "in a couple weeks" to look at the dress, my wedding was on June 20th so that was impossible, not to mention the dress was unfixable as it was hemmed way too short. She then tried to blame it on us making my appointment too late. Buyer beware she does NOT stand behind her work. If I could do zero stars I would. Here's what happened: -I took a dress in for a zipper replacement since the zipper had broken on October 3rd -Katherine told me that on a wedding dress it is normally about $80, (mine was a prom dress) so she said it would probably cost half of that. - after about 3-4 weeks, I had not heard anything -I called her and left a message the week before Halloween (around October 27th) asking for a progress update on the dress -I did not hear back from her after a week of waiting, so I took it upon myself to call her again. -she didn't answer, AND her voicemail box was full. -I called her a couple more times that day hoping she would pick up, but to no avail. -later that day I went in to her studio because the dress was one I had borrowed from my friend and she was asking when it would be ready for her. -when I got there, Katherine told me that she had been out of town for 10 days and didn't have time to get back to me yet. -I told her I had been waiting for a month and that I needed to know when it would be ready. -she asked when I needed it by so I told her by thanksgiving break (which starts the weekend before thanksgiving) -on Friday November 19th, I called again and she did not pick up. -she called me back telling me that she was out of town once again and that I couldn't pick it up that day -I was leaving town for the holiday the following day and wouldn't be able to pick it up, but I needed to get it back to my friend that same week -I arranged for my boyfriend to pick it up and she failed to tell me or remind me ahead of time that she only takes cash (no card) -after waiting two months for a simple zipper fix, she charged me $53 dollars I feel that I was significantly overcharged and taken advantage of here. My request was very simple and not only did it take two MONTHS but also the lack of communication throughout the process was unprofessional and rude. Do not recommend. read more

My daughters wedding dress did not need much altering but for the bodice. Sew It did a great job correcting the issue and also hemming my dress as well. She is very nice and helpful. Recommend getting your bridal dress in early as she is very busy. We went in a month before wedding and it was cutting it a little close got both dresses back same week as wedding. She did guarantee they would be ready and they were. Prices were average. She did a beautiful job and would highly recommend her. read more

Katherine was so kind to work with. She was fun and spunky, and although sometimes the progress of my dress at apts was not as far along as promised before, I knew we had time and she would get it done. Unfortunately, the day of my wedding, my dress fell apart :( The bustle straps broke within 20 minutes of bustling the dress, where at the end of the night my bridesmaids were having to safety pin and create their "own bustle" for me (my dress was also only a column dress = not a lot of fabric to bustle)....this was unfortunate as well because the bottom of my dress got so dirty from the bustle falling apart and the dress getting on the ground and having to pin it up. Additionally, the cups sewn it had so few stitches that they literally fell out of place. My dress fit perfectly and required few alterations (no hem even needed), but at the end of the night 1 cup was literally just floating in the dress with no stitches to anchor it for my bust, so I had to keep adjusting it. The other cup had 1 stitch left to anchor it by the end of the night. The trouble that these issues caused were stressful to deal with the day of the wedding, and a disappointment as Katherine is really nice. I am wearing this dress again next year for a 2nd reception overseas for my husband's family and it's so unfortunate to have to pay for more alterations (basically paying for the same service twice now) to be done to wear it again since these did not hold. My mother also had her dress altered here for the wedding and had extra matching fabric put on the bottom to "extend" the length of her dress with an inside layer. BEFORE the ceremony even began, this extra fabric was fraying and thread was everywhere around her feet, it wasn't hemmed properly. We had to end up tearing this extra piece off of the dress before the wedding even began. read more
