Beautiful (fairly new) hotel with friendly staff and large, comfortable rooms. I appreciated the environmentally friendly touches, the large refrigerator, coffee maker, numerous plugs and USB ports, and thermostat that worked instantly. The pillows were great! There's a water bottle refill station in the lobby and a free shuttle from the train station. There's also a free shuttle to the cruise port. The free breakfast had everything you could possibly want, and another one of those "xerox machines" that spits out fresh pancakes. The fresh bacon was a nice touch and the coffee was excellent. Room 206 was very quiet and the black out shade worked perfectly - since sunset didn't happen till long after I was asleep. The only two negatives are the extremely slow internet and the weak water pressure in the shower. But neither of those thing would keep me from staying here again. It was easy to walk downtown, and being so close to Resurrection Bay was beautiful.

Some of the slowest internet in all of Alaska, I've had faster internet in Bethel

I'll be honest, we booked this because we had a fishing charter and it was the only hotel with room. There was only one review of it at that time, the 5-star one. I found that review highly inaccurate. That reviewer describes this place as "soundproof", which could not be farther from the truth. These walls are paper-thin. You will hear EVERYTHING going on outside. When my brother left to go get some sundries, I heard every step he took towards the elevator after leaving our room. This wasn't a huge issue for me, as I'm a sound-sleeper, but it's something you should know if you aren't. The WiFi: this is the slowest WiFi I've used in 7 years. WiFi on a plane is faster. Tethering to your weak cellphone signal in the middle of the Prince William Sound on a ferry is faster. The internet connections in Bethel is faster. There is just no excuse for speeds this slow at a place that costs $300+ a night. The breakfast is the same generic coffee & carbs that every hotel this side of Motel 6 does. The only thing saving this place from 1-star is that the staff were really friendly, and the beds were cozy. The blackout curtains were also a nice touch and worked very well. Don't come here. Don't encourage these insane, resort-level prices for ho-hum hotel amenities.

Bummer that I can't give more than 3 stars but the price per night simply doesn't cover what you receive in return. Although the staff is professional, helpful and friendly & the building looks pretty new and fancy; there are some basic-comforts that it doesn't check off the list. Main issue number one is the terrible insulation or lack of it. When cars drove by, it sounded like the window was open when it wasn't. I could also hear anything and everything from the hallway. This was also due to there being a 2 inch gap under my door that was somehow either cut crooked or the floor was (check the pic, no lie or exaggeration). Main issue number two is food/drinks in general. Although you spend $350/night, the free hotel breakfast is no different than the ones you would get at a Days Inn. Your usual cereal, toast and coffee station along with some fruits, yogurts, etc. There is a fridge in the room but no microwave. There are a few items for sale at the front desk but there is no actual small shop or bar inside of the hotel. So ultimately paying $350/night just to be in a room that looks new and pretty but isn't actually more functional than any other room isn't worth the price. I would have stayed somewhere else were it not that my original booking elsewhere fell through short notice and options were limited..

Let me preface this by saying that this review is not in of itself indicative of what others may…read moreexperience since there are so many factors that come into play. The tour guides are perhaps the biggest factor that is in control by the company. The wildlife viewing and glacier kayaking experience is also dependent on how lucky nature views you. This of course is not this fault of the company, but may impact experience. With that long statement out of the way, let's talk about what happened during my excursion. To start, they go over the typical safety protocols to mitigate chances of issues that would occur. Then you embark on a roughly two hour ride to the kayaking destination. From there, you kayak about 4 miles to the glacier. It's just beautiful to enjoy the Alaskan waterfalls and viewpoints before arriving at the glacier. But once there, you're hit with the majestic beauty of the glacier. Due to safety reasons, we paddle until about 1 mile from the glacier, but it's big enough to be seen from a good ways away. If you're lucky you can see some ice calving. Then you enjoy some lunch from a spot near the glacier before embarking home. Along the way there and way back. The group was also fortunate to see some amazing wildlife! From porpoises to orcas, to whales, it was just a stroke of good luck! If you're in Seward, heck even Alaska, it is definitely worth taking this kayaking tour!

I highly recommend trying it out, even if you're new to kayaking. They were very prepared, and we felt safe, on top of fact that the kayaks were really hard to flip. I'm not saying you should flip (since it WILL end the tour), BUT if you do end up capsizing, your guide will have to do a shoey at the end of the season... just saying.

Overall it was an excellent…read moreexperience, a great introduction to Alaska for our first visit, and a reminder that rail service need not be as bad as AmTrak makes it. We have traveled a lot and been to most of the lower 48 states, and almost all the major national parks. This trip was a great one for us. Our tour included all transportation and hotels, most meals, and several side tours. We never traveled in one big group, as people have different routes an days and locations. We went from Anchorage to Girdwood to Seward to Denali, with a couple of turnarounds in Anchorage. The trains ran on time. The crews were helpful and knowledgeable and ever-present. The meals were adequate (not fancy) and the seats comfortable. We opted for Gold Star Service, which costs more but means we traveled in domed cars meals and drinks pre-paid. The rail company has excellent connections with tour people. For example, our nature center tour leader took us to lunch and handed us off to the river rafting crew. They led us back to the train for a brief trip to a dropoff point, and stayed with us down the river to a bank-side pickup point. They dealt with our luggage. But remember that on a tour like this, connections are everything. Hotel clerks were not always as trained on shuttles and departure times so be sure and check everything every day along the way. On our tour we saw everything we expected, and more. Wildlife outside the train windows: Glaciers from small and large boats; Whales; moose and more scenery than you will believe. Note: we don't care for Cruise ships and crowds, and found this a great alternative. And probably less expensive than a cruise. We loved it. It was for us the trip of a lifetime.

They open the door, and everyone walks through. I recommend sticking with the gold star service. The view is better from higher above (it's the pic with the shaded glass on top, which seems to defeat the purpose), the seats have a tray and a foot rest, and are more comfortable/larger. No carry-on; you need to check all luggage. The food is pretty good and it includes two drinks. They didn't say anything about breakfast until we'd been on the train for 45 min. We had to sit with another couple which was odd but okay. Adventure class is down below. It's like riding a bus or a plane. There's a rack above for a carry-on. The window is large (it's' the pic without the shaded glass on top). It's kind of noisy. There are families, kids, crying babies, etc. The seats have no food trays or foot rests, and don't lean as far back. The cafe is lack luster, with pretty lousy food choices. You might not be willing to eat any of it. You can bring your own food but you cannot bring alcohol. The cocktail drinks are $14 each and it's not easy to get one in Adventure class because there isn't much service there. There are a few eating tables next to the cafe. There is a person narrating what you see the entire time but sometimes only the people in gold star service can see an animal or whatever is spotted. We saw moose, swans, caribou, etc. We did not see Denali mountain because of the clouds. The first 2-3 hrs going from Anchorage to Denali is only birch trees, quarries, and run down houses. I suggest bringing a book for that part, but don't worry the views get much better after that.

We were transporting from Seward to Whittier to board Princess cruises. Kim picked us up late in Seward, she was to be there at 11 am and it was 11:20 when I phoned and left a message with Renee, and then Kim appeared. The van was very dirty, I mean it was not good. From there we went and she got gas and her rockstar and 5 hour energy drinks. We thought at first she was just a bad driver, so we are like ok. Swerving a little here and there off the side of road several times. Hitting the rumble strips. But then she swerved onto oncoming traffic, the van crossed the center line of the 4 lane road going down a mountain and half the van was in the lane of oncoming cars, a big truck to be more precise. When we heard the rumble strips we all screamed and she woke up cause she had fallen asleep. She had DOZED off several times. We asked her if she was ok to pull over, no I am fine I am just a little nauseous. She continued to almost rear end several vehicles and was constantly scratching her legs and pinching herself to keep herself awake. We asked to get a picture when we got in the vehicle of the Kenai Fjords National Park sign, well she passed that up. So she stopped at another sign, so thank god, really thank god, because I honestly thought we were going to DIE this Saturday in this horrendous vehicle with this woman. We pulled over to get a picture. I did ask strangers for a ride because I was terrified to get back in this vehicle. At that point I refused to get back in that vehicle with her. She told us if we got back in she would give us back a $100, I told her no way. My husband drove us the rest of the way. I really felt she was going to kill us or severely injure us. That van could not have withstood a crash at 70 MPH. It was absolutely awful. I wish I wouldn't have paid her at the beginning because I wouldn't have paid her. I can't believe the boss lets her drive clients. I am a travel agent so I will make sure to leave my reviews. I am thanking god my family is here today. It was to say the least a traumatic event. I Have taken hundreds if not thousands of taxis I have never had this life threatening experience before! Please Please take the coach bus from Seward to Whittier, do not use this company!

Booking online was easy and we called ahead to see if we could check in a little later than the scheduled time, and Sue was accommodating. The Google Map directions are a little misleading; go past where the directions "end" and go to the red balloon pin. Otherwise, pretty easy to get to and not far from Seward or Exit Glacier! We arrived after dark, and our yurt was labeled with a sign near the door with our name on it. My first stay in a yurt - this one was incredibly homey! It had pretty much all the necessities of home and was more spacious than I expected. Think rustic "glam"ping. It's a bit pricey if you're on a budget and not needing all the comforts, but is a good value for what you get. If you have a larger group, price becomes more and more economical. I think it would be nice place for a family. There is a list of instructions, but was pretty straightforward. I caution ladies that the plumbing does not accept feminine hygiene products - there is a sign, but it's a bit high and I almost missed it. Slept great and enjoyed the amenities. We didn't spend much time outside of nighttime at the yurt, but the surroundings were nice. The only foible is that the description notes, "complimentary loaf of Sue's Homemade Specialty Bread," which I assumed to be sourdough. We instead received some very tasty blueberry muffins during our stay, and later learned "sourdough" is a term for a longtime Alaskan. The more you know!
