I've never written a negative Yelp review in my life--but I want to spare someone else the experience I had at Cathy's Sewing. I agree with a comment below in that I feel like I was swindled by a seemingly sweet older lady. Here's the list of issues: I asked for two dresses to be taken in on the waist and bust. Cathy was nearly a week late in returning them and I had to call multiple times to get updated about when they were going to be done. After I picked them up and returned home, I found both dresses smelled of smoke (seemingly cigarette), the zipper had been broken out of one dress, and one dress had a 3" hole remaining in an internal seam. Cathy put me in a serious bind for an important business trip. When I called her to tell her the issues and try to give her an opportunity as a business owner to make right or at least explain herself, she flat out denied everything. There was no accountability, no apology; if fact she was confrontational and hung up on me. I have honestly never had a worse interaction/result with a small business owner here in Flagstaff. I recommend Sewing by Cathy without any hesitation or reservation. Cathy has helped me in fixing old hiking gear, outdoor gear, and general clothing modifications for almost a year now. When I have been turned away by every seamstress in Flagstaff due to the difficulty of some of the modifications that I've sought for my camping gear, Cathy was able to take on the project without hesitation. Her prices are very reasonable, her work holds up well, she's extremely friendly, and her time estimates are always quite accurate. If you are having trouble finding a reliable seamstress in town, consider your hunt over. I will not be using any other seamstress as long as Cathy is in business. read more

Called this lady to get a dress fitted in a pinch. She didn't seem interested in my business or helping to work with my demanding nursing schedule. She was also a little rude and said something like, "well I don't know how your going to get it fitted if you are working." Thanks! I don't either. read more

Cathy is really good at what she does.any alteration I have had done has been excellent.

Cathy did a beautiful job taking in and hemming a dress for a wedding I had purchased on line at the last minute for a wedding I was attending in Vegas. I was nervous about asking her to rush the job but she had a n9 problem attitude and got it the job done. I was very impressed that she had all the right tools to cut the fabric my dress was made of and the skills to fit it perfectly. I feel like I got scammed by an elderly lady. after struggling to find a place in Flagstaff that does alterations, I called Cathy and she sounded very sweet on the phone. She chatted with me for a while and said how outrageously priced every place in town was for alterations. Maybe because she sounded like my grandma, I stupidly didn't ask the price she charged. Well, it turns out it cost $80 to get my dress hemmed. Well okay, I was helping a small business so that was okay, but when I went to try on my dress THERE WAS A HUGE OILY STAIN on the front of my dress!!!!! I confronted Cathy about it, and she denied it completely and said she had nothing to do with that. I was so disappointed. Not only did I pay $80 for a simple hem, but now I have to pay to get it cleaned, all because Cathy stained it. This was a learning experience for me: don't trust someone just because they sound like a sweet old grandma. read more

IMPORTANT: Cathy cannot be trusted. I brought my wedding dress to her and she pretended that she knew what to do. She did NOT measure or pin anything like any descent seamstress would. All she had to do was a simple hem job, and now my wedding dress is up above my ankles because she butchered the bottom of it (I had to bring it to another seamstress who measured and pinned it like I imagine you are supposed to do). There were parts in the front still hanging on the floor, some parts were way shorter, and the lining was hanging out way below the top layer in the back. I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere for a higher quality sewing job. She did give me back my money, along with a few not so kind words (extreme profanity, a bit shocking to hear from someone who claims to be a professional). She didn't ruin my day, but she definitely changed the look of my dress into something I would have never purchased. read more

Cathy altered my entire wardrobe a couple of years ago. She was prompt and competent. She did an excellent job.

Brought in a simple tunic dress to have shortened a couple inches a week before an important event. She was able to meet me immediately and do a fitting, so I assumed that all was in order and didn't pick the dress back up until the night before the event. Went to put it on fifteen minutes before leaving the house the next morning to discover she had shortened it almost twice as much as I requested (as in the dress now fell so short my underwear were visible from the bottom, and not only that the hemming job was very sloppy. I was reluctant about going to someone with no available customer reviews and now I wish I had trusted my instincts. Do not use this person for any alterations. She ruined one article of clothing and refused pay for the article. Also 4 seams on 3 of the 5 alterations she made have come apart. She also took 3 weeks longer than she stated it would take to make the alterations. read more
