We stopped by here before dinner at another spot. We wanted to come here because Sexy Fish was listed in a book we have that lists the best bars in the world. Maybe my expectations were set too high, but I was a little disappointed. One reason could be because they specialize in Japanese whisky. I much prefer standard American bourbon. I ordered an Old Fashioned which used Japanese whisky, and it wasn't bad by any means. Just didn't blow me away. My wife had a rhubarb cocktail, which was better than my Japanese OF. read more

No amount of fancy bathroom decor can make up for how overpriced and subpar this establishment is. * Cocktails: For $20 a drink, you'd expect at least basic customizations, but apparently, that's too much to ask. I requested a simple liquor swap and was met with a flat-out "no customizations." Adding insult to injury, the cocktails are served half-full. Absolute blasphemy. * Shrimp Appetizer: Completely forgettable. The shrimp isn't even properly tossed in the sauce. A quick trip to Nobu would teach them what a proper shrimp dish should look--and taste--like. * Eel Sauce & Rolls: The eel sauce was overly smoky and unpleasant, and the shrimp roll includes asparagus--an odd and off-putting choice that makes me question the entire menu. Worse still, despite calling their sushi "maki style," they refuse to wrap the nori on the outside, sticking only to rice. And yes, once again, no customizations allowed. This place is all style and no substance--a cheap, spray-painted gold facade masquerading as luxury. I won't be fooled again. Too trendy for us at this point in our life (early -mid 30s). It was so loud that we barely talked to each other all night. Used to be so into spots like that but wow it's just too much. We could not hear our various servers who worked us and it seemed to get annoying for everyone involved. There were a lot of "WHAT" going on. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful - the bar especially. and the food is stunningly plated...but it was just a bit uncomfortable. Like everyone there was only there to be seen or see celebrities (and yes there was a celebrity there that evening). Portions were small, and because of my stomach condition there were not many options for me particularly. I ended up with two lobster dishes that were both over $40 each and left hungry even after dessert. But I will say dessert(we chose three ice creams) and our drinks were delicious. The atmosphere is also a bit odd. I wore a brown halter midi dress that was backless (very 90s) and somehow I ended up feeling both underdressed and overdressed at the same time. I got some looks (mostly from other women) and I'm not sure if they were positive or negative. There are photos so you can see. I will say the staff were all very sweet and patient with the noice - again they too seemed a little bit annoyed with it too. I had recently had foot surgery before our trip and it was the first night I was able to wear heels (doc's orders) so I did because it was my honeymoon and it did not go well. I ended up bleeding and needing to go to the bathroom to rewrap it. The bathroom is STUNNING, but down a vey long flight of stairs. A very kind staff member let me use the wheelchair lift and patiently waited on me to wrap my foot, and se the bathroom (it has to be operated by staff) and it was another male staff member who took a million photos of us by the bar after we were finished. Very very kind of them. Also the security guard at the door was so sweet and personable and charming, give him a raise! He thought my husband and I were "so cute" in our matching camel coats (unintentional lol) and recommended Bacchanalia for after dinner drinks. We were headed there anyway but he didn't have to do that and it was quite kind of him to do so! I would be interested to experience this for lunch on a weekday and see if those pain points are eradicated during daylight hours or not. All in all I would recommend it to anyone young or into really trendy spots but may not to someone who likes a more intimate or quite atmosphere. read more

Honestly worth the hype. We had reservations for two on a Friday night and were seated promptly in the main room across from the DJ. This place is high energy and vibey so great for a date or with a group of friends on a celebratory occasion. The cocktails were excellent and the food was fantastic. The tuna tartare was fresh and had generous portions of tuna. But the star of the show was the sea bass. Probably the best sea bass I've had. Perfectly seasoned, crispy skin, juicy fish, perfectly cooked. Service was excellent as well and very attentive. The bar area was packed and we tried to stop by on another night for drinks but had a difficult time ordering so we left. Would 100% recommend this place for dinner. We spent around $400 total for a couple which included 4 cocktails. read more

Great food, beautiful ambiance and amazing service. We had reservations, but still had to wait outside of the roped off area until allowed to gain entry to the restaurant. Though it did not take long to get inside, there was an additional wait to be greeted and seated by the hostess, which took approximately 10 minutes. Once seated, our beverage orders were taken relatively fast. We ordered some appetizers and eventually the main course. I ordered salmon and kimchi rice. We had something else as well, but it escapes me at this time. The meal was a 10, service was a 10, ambiance was a 10 and the entertainment was a 10 as well. I did think the staff was extremely snobby since I showed up early for my reservation, and tried to seat me at a table next to a large party that was talking so loud since the music was blasting! I requested to move to a corner table next to the window and he reluctantly seated our party since the restaurant wasn't crowded on a Tuesday evening. Food - veggie tempura, kimchi fried rice, dragon roll and edamame gyoza- all above average in taste, but nothing really special about it, which was a little disappointing since I expected to be dazzled by the food but no. I went to sexy fish about eight years ago and had a great experience. Went back a few months ago and was disappointed. Thought the food was overpriced and the portions were rather small. We did order multiple dishes, but still found them to be small for the price. The weight staff was amazing. There were so many people working the evening we went. We never had an empty glass and we were asked multiple times if we wanted more alcohol. The interior has a super fun and lively vibe. I would recommend trying it at least once. read more

We made a 2-week long trip out to Europe and UK and this dinner was the #1 experience in my book. Would like to thank our server, Muhammad, who was very informative and detailed with his service. He described everything well, answered our questions, and made sure that we were taken care of. Our Sommelier, Matthew, described each pairing beautifully and each one complimented each courses amazing. Surprisingly, I've never had a sake pairing before, and the Jummai was enjoyed really well with the tomatoes! The main course and pairing right before dessert was the star of the show for me. The Sauternes with the dessert course was the perfect finish. I work in fine dining in San Francisco, California and everything was on point in this restaurant. From the moment we stepped in to the moment we stepped out the door. The price point of the menu was outrageously agreeable too. It's quite surprising that I haven't yet reviewed Sexy Fish, despite it being one of my go-to spots in Mayfair for the past few years. Sexy Fish has a unique atmosphere, it is vibrant and visually appealing. The setting itself contributes to the dining experience. However, this has as drawback that it sometimes attracts the typical influencer crowds and wannabes. But unlike many of these picture pretty places, the food here is actually quite good. I've tasted many of their fish and seafood dishes and they were all executed really well. In addition, recently I went with a friend who doesn't eat fish (I know!) and discovered that all of their meat dishes were impressive. Who would have thought! Overall, probably one of the better places in Mayfair to eat and be seen! Will go back! read more

This place was great and very beautifully decorated upon walking in. We had a reservation but the table was not ready when we got there but we only waited less than 15mins for it. Once sat we got the cocktail menu which we already had some to to look at since we waited at the bar for our table. But it took a bit for us to get food menus. Anyway once our waiter came over he was pretty cool but he had a hard time understanding what I was saying maybe if they cut the music down just a bit it'd be easier. Since it was my birthday dinner I jumped right away into getting the Japanese whiskey flight £21. It came with Yamazaki Distiller's Reserve, Hakushu Distiller's Reserve, Nikka Coffey Grain (my favorite), Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt (20ml each). This place offers a tapas style menu. My friend and I shared the pork belly skewers they were absolutely delicious. The shrimp tempura which was good as well, I have the scallops which were a bit too raw but still doable. And we each had me so soup with seaweed and tofu it was great. My other friend have a king crab dumb noodles and the y'all and foie gras rolls she loved both. The only thing that was annoying was the waiter kept saying everything came with only two items but he would do us a favor and add a third unbeknownst to us it was for an up charge idk I thought he was just hooking us up lol. Anyway to top off our meal we ended with the cheesecake which they did up for my birthday it was a nice finishing touch. read more

I hate when I have to give a place low reviews. I have been here in the past before the plandemic. When I was here in 2018 I think it was the staff was very accommodating and friendly. They have one of the largest Japanese whisky by the glass lists I've ever seen. The bar manager was very friendly and gave me lots of suggestions, gave me his card at the end of the night and told me to call him next time I came in. Fast forward to about a month ago....I came on a Saturday around 11pm. The door guy very rudely when I got to the door asked if I had reservations. I told him no and that I just wanted to go to the bar and get some Japanese whisky. The expensive Japanese whisky. He looked at me with a sneer and said they were full. While he's saying this drunken idiots are coming out. The music inside is at club level loud. When did this former excellent restaurant/bar become las vegas? And attracting douchey drunken idiots? Some other people come to the door and door guy let's them right in without asking if they had a reservation. I dunno was I not dressed douchey enough? I made it clear when I first came to the door I was willing to spend unlike the broke idiots inside. Door guy acts like he's in charge of ministry of sound or printworks or something. Anyways I left and went to the connaught bar which was excellent as always. So in closing this place sucks. Avoid it unless you want to be around loud drunken douchey people acting like they are in Vegas. Pathetic. Oh yeah I saw spaces by the bar when the door guy was saying it was full. I went with a couple friends as it was suggested we try this place while in London. The drinks were good, and the food was pretty good. I had the caramelized black cod, and it was really good. My friends tried sushi, and the ribs, everyone liked those items. The service was horrible, our waiter was very rude and would never come to our table--even though he had tables right beside us and would constantly check on them. We would have to flag him down to get his attention. The music is SO LOUD, I wouldn't go there if you're expecting to have a conversation. It's also super dark inside, it gives night club vibes. It could be because we went later at night. Also, on your check they charge you a cover price to come in the building. Considering our bill was close to $400 I'm not sure why we'd need to pay almost $20 for entry. Overall, the experience wasn't that great. read more

After hearing my dad rave about the Sexy Fish location in Miami, we decided to give it a try for the first time in London! As we walked in, the decor was definitely inferior to the Miami location, as was seen by the pictures he showed us. However, the service and food were lovely! We ordered a couple of shareable items for the table, including the duck salad, the Yellowtail sashimi, the dragon roll, the spicy crab roll, the black miso cod, and the beef tenderloin, all of which were items that Sexy Fish was known for! Everything comes out when it is done, which ensures that it is fresh and hot when you eat it. Our favorite was the black miso cod and the beef tenderloin, which are a must try! The duck salad was surprisingly very good as well, as the saltiness of the duck is balanced but the sweetness of the watermelon and dressing they use, and compliment each other perfectly! This place is in no way, shape, or form similar to the experience i have had at the Miami location. On top of that reservation times don't seem to matter as they seat you whenever they feel ready. Also if you are wondering how you should dress because the Miami location is very strict, you could wear a t shirt and shorts and they wouldn't care. 2 stars because the bartenders were great. read more

Wow, extremely impressed with SexyFish. I want to start this review by giving major kudos to our bartender, Maria. After we first arrived at SexyFish, she took very good care of us, introducing us to their massive (422 and counting) Japanese whiskey selection, letting us try many things and entertaining us with her amazing mixology skills. We drank, we laughed, we were amazing and had a blast. Plus she recommended perhaps the best two dishes of the night, which I'll get to next. The food at SexyFish is great! I uploaded a ton of pictures, so look at them for more info, however, I'd say the standouts were the pork belly and Chilean sea bass. The best dish of the night was the Turbot with butter and Truffle. Maria recommended it to us and my God, it was amazingly delicious. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't try it on your next visit. Another awesome standout was the Cheesecake, which just melts in your mouth. I don't want to say it was the best cheesecake I've ever had, but I'm pretty sure it is. Anything else? Well the staff is great. Did I mention how awesome Maria was? Our table servers were great as well. Ambience is kinda a mixed bag. SexyFish is going for a nightclub vibe, including a DJ and his private section, and extremely loud music. To be honest, it's a little much and uncuts the excellence of the cuisine. I don't like having to shout always through dinner. I'm sure it would be Gordon Ramsey's first comment when he arrived. Walking into this restaurant, I was expecting a nice family dinner with my two kids. As soon as we were about to get our table, the hostess was most to us. First she tried to speak down to us and tell us that it was 730 and reservation was for 715 Had to be reminded that table reservations will be held for additional 15 minutes. Then she got more hostile and aggressive and started to point out that kids would no be allowed past 9pm and the kitchen would not have enough time to process our dinner order. I promised her we would be quick and out of there by 9 pm. Then she became more belligerent and started to point out that the kids were dressed inappropriately despite them being dressed with polo shirts and nice shorts. She started to show me some fine print in the restaurant website. Then I requested that I speak to the manager. The man who showed up was super arrogant and dismissive towards us and what we had to say. I just gave up and left the place. What a bunch of inept and mindless people. The worst attitude and behavior I have ever witnessed from restaurant staff. So full of themselves. People please beware of this over pretentious restaurant that has forgotten the basic rules of customer service. Better choices abound in London. Stay away!
