Seyu Mack Tenn is a Chinese Bakery located on Billings Road in Quincy. It's not a big store but they have a variety of baked goods all over and some in the display case. There are also a few dim sum items behind the counter inside an insulated hot box. The location of this bakery is in a more quiet part of the intersection. And street parking was easy when I went there on a weekend morning. Mini Egg Tarts- These were about two-bite size ones and they are the way to go! I got the box of 12 to split with a gf and it was fantastic! Not sure if they were a better deal or not but it was convenient to just get them in a box. They were sweet, eggy and the crust was flakey. And I placed what I had left of my portion in the fridge and it was still good the next day! Hot Dog Buns- Fluffy bun with a hot dog in it. Classic Chinese bun I used to get at every spot that sold it and this tasted like my childhood! Overall Service: Joyful staff but can and I can see people being turned off because they seem a little pushy when they are trying to show options. I bought a few mini cakes for the kids, and it turned out to be a huge mistake. When we cut them into smaller pieces, we discovered green mold inside. After reading other reviews, I'm even more upset--this isn't an isolated incident. It seems like moldy food is a recurring issue at this bakery. Clearly, food safety is not a priority for them. People deserve better, and this place should not be in business. On the morning of June 8th, I bought 8 cakes, 6 loaves of bread and 12 small egg tarts at this store. I kept them in the fridge after getting home. At 6:00 am on June 9th, I took them out to eat and found this situation. After communicating with the merchant, she said I could only go to the store to solve the problem on June 9th or June 10th. Since I have no time from Monday to Friday, I can only go on Saturday or Sunday. I told the merchant that I could take a photo first to prevent fraud and then go to the store on Saturday. Then, she wanna us to buy the honey ginger cake, we didn't get to look at this cake, she grabbed two put in the bag. My husband and I are easy people, she said it was good so we didn't tell her to take it out. Later on, We were looking for sponge cake, then she said the "almond cake" is better, good thing we didn't listen to her this time, otherwise we may have another mold bakery to throw away! I love going to Seyu Mack Tenn, it has been my go to Chinese Bakery ever since I moved to Quincy 7 years ago. The women who work there are extremely friendly, always happy to see me. I usually go on Sunday mornings on my way to visit my grandsons. The youngest always asks me to get him the Char Sui Bao - Steamed Red Roast Pork bun, my daughter prefers the baked version. My favorite is the Egg Tart. The price is quite reasonable & I have never had a bad experience there. They have a private parking lot for the bakery & restaurant next to it, but sometimes it is filled with customers from nearby shops. read more

This review is not for the bakery, but rather solely their Chinese Roast Pork Belly. I have not personally visited this restaurant/bakery, but every now and again when my cousin comes by she brings a few pounds of the Chinese Roast Pork Belly (siu yuk) and it is delicious perfection, by far the best in Massachusetts, bar none. Easily beating out the next contender in Chinatown Cafe in Boston's Chinatown. I have not had one bad experience with the roast pork belly here, it is consistently deliciously made every, single, time. I am making this point because if you're a regular Chinese roast pork eater in and around the Boston area, you already know the roast pork belly scene is VERY inconsistent, sometimes you get fresh cuts, and sometimes you get the dry leftovers from the day before, it's a gamble every time. I want to like this new Chinese bakery; I really do. I wouldn't mind having an alternative to Crown Royal. However, this place is just lacking way too much in terms of quality and quantity. Plus, the name (I know how it's derived from) is totally lame. It sounds like some fobby import/export company. Where to start...well, the egg tarts were sub-par. The crust was scant and had no flavor to it. Those characteristics, along with a tasteless filling, makes this a pastry to avoid. The coconut tart had poor texture and a lack of coconut flavor. The wives' pastry was thin, small, and also tasteless. The breads are, to continue the theme, devoid of any flavor. I didn't like the coconut bun, as it lacked much filling inside. I tried a variety of other breads and they all have the same problem. Everything in general here lacked flavor. it was like just eating into blocks of nothing. The prices don't exactly attract either, as some items are higher than Crown Royal. The only reason why this gets two stars? I think Crown Royal got a bit of a wake-up call and cleaned up on customer service. The Mandarin-speaking lady there is actually kinda nice now. After I made it clear that I didn't need the rice roll, she got so upset and became very rude. Later, I want to buy some bread with two egg tarts. The listed price for the egg tart is $1.25 each. There was only one box of 6 egg tarts left. She said that I have to buy the whole box and it does not sell separately. I think she did it on purpose. There was no whole box price listed. Anyway I tried to buy the whole box of 6 egg tart for a total of $7.5, She insisted on the price of $8.5. First, she pushed me to buy things and then increased the price at her will. We was eating in this area and come across with this bakery. So we want to try some of their egg tart. I'm glad my girlfriend came along with me because i'm those easy person. It was like 6:40pm (Sat) we went in and look at some egg tarts. Then the lady said it was freshly made and said "let me pack you a dozen of egg tarts" then my girlfriends insisted only need 2 and the lady keep try to hot sell her other freshly made cake. Anyway, the prices and names of the food/desserts were in her language and not English, so we didn't know how much what was. Money was definitely not an issue but I heard her say "$12.50" and I was thinking that pork boa (4 pieces and the sponge cake) was expensive but we didn't mind spending more when it comes to food we like to eat or food in general. We finished our transaction with her, we took the sponge cake and was reaching for the boa rolls and she said she'll put it in a bag, we said it's ok we don't need one but she insisted so then she walked around the counter and handed us the bag. We left the store and I asked my boyfriend if I can take a photo of his sponge cake so I can post on Yelp (lol), we paused and I saw the egg tarts in the bag and I said, did we pay for these or did she give them to us? He's like no I didn't pay for these so we decided to walk back and ask her. She said we paid for them. I kindly corrected her and said "No, we gave you just the pork boa and a slice of the almond sponge cake for our purchase, we didn't hand you the box or asked for it" and she had the audacity to say that we already walked out with it so she can't take it back. This was one of the only bakeries in the area with the most variety of Chinese pastries I've seen. I usually get the standard things that you definitely can't go wrong with, the hot dog buns, sponge cake, pineapple buns, dai bao, yuk sung bao, egg tarts and got beef cheurng fun once. What I've listed are good, tastes like they should. Each item is around the standard $1-2 per pastry. The egg tart is a bit light, not much eggy-ness and is sweeter. It's interesting, not bad, but I'd prefer the eggy Chinatown ones. The beef cheurng fun was not the most amazing thing, but it is what it is, still is a cheurng fun. I want to say the beef was ground beef? Fell apart. All right, so about the lady at the counter haha most people who wrote reviews seemed intimidated by her, but if you speak the language well enough, shes not that hard to deal with. Bring your parents/aunts/uncles to help you if you need!!! From what I see, yes she is pushy but she's trying to sell literally everything, she's doing her job :) but if you just tell her "no its okay" or "no, I don't need it" she's really okay with not selling you that item. She got to be the best sales lady I know, the pressure was just unbearable. She kept on pressuring/ persuading my kids to buy more food. The worst thing that happen today was that she sold me bread that went bad. We took it back and her explanation was that it was a hot day. My mom was there this morning, and the woman behind the counter does not follow safety protocol at all. She didn't wear gloves, and touches food immediately after touching money, without cleaning her hands first. My mom and the only other customer in the shop called her out on it and she said it was because it's busy. She also said, "Just heat it up when you get home and it will kill all the germs." I have been a customer of the bakery for a few years. I never considered them the best or the worst Chinese bakery around. However after the pandemic started their quality dipped and the prices increased. About half a dozen times I have bitten into a bun that was raw and a doughy inside. I went back to the store and asked for a refund, the owner denied that I bought it there and refused to return my money (even though I had the store branded wrapping to prove). She even said I made this up to smear her store. This place is known to sell expired bread. Former employees also said they would keep certain baked goods over night, scrape off the frosting the next day and add a new layer of frosting. Isn't that illegal? Or at least a health violation? The raisin bread (sliced) is better than Crown Royal. It is moist and less dry. The pineapple bun is pretty light, but the topping falls off easily after a bite. The beef stuffed noodles were alright, but not something that I will buy again. The beef was overwhelmed by the amount of noodle and slightly mealy. Have you ever had a ratatouille moment? You know the Disney movie moment when the food critic takes his first bite of the ratatouille and he closes his eyes and is taken back to his childhood where his mother cooked ratatouille for him. This moment happened to my husband today with the sesame buns with red bean filling. He took his first bite and immediately closed his eyes and just sat there with sesame seeds all over his lips. After a moment he shared with me that it tasted exactly like the treats his grandmother would make him as a child. She would be baking in the kitchen while he was sitting next to her playing. He was raised by his grandmother who passed away years ago so tasting that treat was something special for him. Considering the fact that my husband was raised in Guatemala as a child makes it pretty interesting. We also tried the coconut boba tea. This was my first time ever trying boba tea so my review might not be as credible but it was good. The crispy taro roll was sadly a little bland and the almond cookies were sweet and tasty. Good selection of baked goods, reasonable prices and friendly staff. I've been here a few times and my favorite items are the light cheesecake and sliced raisin bread. I don't normally like raisins, but I like their bread! The cheesecake texture and taste is similar to Japanese style, very light and almost spongy which is more yummy than it sounds. However, in terms of most of their pastries and buns, it does not match the quality and taste of Crown Royal (just a few blocks away). Although items look good, something in the taste just seems off. I came here today to buy a birthday cake. There were 2 in the window. I asked the lady which one is made fresh TODAY. She told me the one on the left, I repeated my question to her. It's convenient with a quick drive. Most of the time, I go right in the morning so everything is warm and fresh. Pretty standard Chinese bakery. I enjoy seeing the owner and the girl that works there, they are used to having frequent and local customers so they remember you. Just OK. Had a coconut tart which was supposedly "fresh". It was luke warm and just ok. I also got a taro roll, some jook (rice soup), a sponge cake, and a soy bean drink from the fridge. The taro roll again was just ok. The rice soup was very good, as was the sponge cake. They didn't make the drink so I won't review it. There isn't much space to sit and no public bathroom. The display of everything is really pretty. Overall it seems like a very standard Chinese bakery, just new. As I don't go to Quincy a lot, I probably won't be back. I like this place. My wife and I usually drop by here for milk tea and some baos when we're in town to visit my mom. I like the Char Siu Bao (roast pork bun) and Nai Wong bao (custard with pineapple bun). It's definitely better made than anything I get in Boston Chinatown. And my wife is usually picky about her baos because she's used to lot of options back in her home town and she approves of this place, so that's saying something. I grew up in Quincy and this is the first time I feel that one of these Chinese bakeries has gotten it right like they do in SF and NYC. read more

This place is AWESOME. We got breakfast here two days in a row while visiting Quincy. They have three varieties of hot steam buns for a buck a piece-pork and vegetable was my favorite. We tried the shumai as well, best I've ever had. Numerous beautiful cakes and pastries. The crispy sesame cookies are a must have as well.
