I should have known this company was shady considering they had to stand inside Home Depot and harass people in order to get business. We originally had them come out because the furnace was old and having problems. When the salesman came out he told us that the AC unit we had was too large for the house and we needed to downsize. That it would be more efficient and save us money. The unit we had cooled the house great, it was just older and turned on and off often. We were told that it would save a lot of money having the furnace and AC replaced together. Of course we took his word for it trusting he knew what he was talking about and it was a huge mistake. We have a 1 story house with a walkout basement, it is all brick and very well insulated with brand new windows and the AC runs ALL THE TIME and seldom will cool the house below 70 degrees. The ducts were cleaned shortly before we purchased the house (2018) and the unit outside has been cleaned. When we called last summer (less than a year after it was installed) they gave us the run around and basically refused to come out to look at it, stating the problem was most likely that we needed to clean the outside unit. Now we have had the system for under 2 years and it broke this winter but since it was out of warranty it was an outrageous price for them to come out so my husband ended up ordering the parts and fixing it himself. We contacted them again this summer and pretty much had to insist they come out because our energy bill is higher than it was with the old unit. Of course we are being charged a $99 service fee. They aren't coming until next week so I can't review that, but I'm pretty sure that will be negative also. I'm to the point where I want to rip it all out and go with a new company. I HIGHLY recommend NOT using SGI Heating and Cooling, it is worth the cost to find a better company. I feel like having to beg for customers is the equivalent to an infomercial....if it seems too good to be true than it probably is. This company doesn't even deserve the 1 star read more

These guys were phenomenal! I am always hesitant to use the companies contracted through Home Depot, but these guys were professional, courteous, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond. There were minor things that they could have ignored or just skipped, and they installed my new furnace and A/C as if it was their own house. They walked me through everything and made sure that I was satisfied before they left. I will tell everyone to use SGI for their heating and cooling needs. It's nice to know that Home Depot has some good people working with them. Not to mention that they were about $3,000 to $4,000 below the other estimate I got, and there were no extra costs at the end. I couldn't be happier! read more

I could not have been more satisfied with my experience with SGI. I was interested in the installation of a generator. I could not get many other companies to even call me back. The one that did indicate it would be 4 to 5 months before they would have a unit to install at my house. SGI got back to me the same day and they were at my house the next day. From the time I place the order until installation was only 6 weeks. Then crew that installed my generator was very professional. Conner, Brenden K, Dave and John S, worked as a team. My stand by generator quit working during a power outage after the big storm. SGI installed the generator. I called SGI for the warranty work. I wasn't expecting a response since I thought they'd be busy after the storm. The receptionist was friendly and very helpful. Within a few hours I had a tech at my house. He repaired the generator and even stayed for a while to make sure ot was running properly. Everyone involved was professional. These days I don't expect good service. I was set up with these guys for a new furnace estimate by Home Depot. I showed them the 2nd floor bedrooms I wanted ducts run to, he looked at the floor vent on the bathroom floor and said Not Up To Code. Final Estimate shows "1 bathroom run" and $1992.00 for "ductwork". I thought these were two different things but NO! I was wrong. That $2K was to bring the bathroom up to code, not run 2 lines upstairs. Later another installer gave me an estimate, said as the house is 90 years old, that floor vent is GRANDFATHERED, just try not to pour water down it (being a bathroom). New guy also told me about the up-to $500.00 rebate from my gas company for upgrading. SGI never told me about saving me money. They did try to reel me in with a hinky $1000 "furnace buy-back" coupon (with no expiration date!) which was no buy-back program the 2nd guy ever heard about so SGI's prices appear to have a spare $1000 worked into them to allow them to offer you a $1000 off but you have to act now! Coupon will expire in only a few days! I felt over-pressured by SGI to spend far more than I needed to (by 20,000BTU's according to the 2nd estimator). And SGI wanted $1992 to move a bathroom floor vent all of 6 inches which should be considered grandfathered. And I still get no heat ducts to the upstairs. The stupid cherry on top? When I finally decided to try the deal, I called the office to get the ball rolling. The sales manager didn't get back to me for ***3 days***. They didn't have a copy of the estimate in the office, had no idea what I was talking about, that stuff is all out in the installer's van, and OH! he's on vacation. Thanks, Home Depot! read more

We had a problem with the furnace today. The burner would not light and with temperatures tonight expected below ZERO there was cause for concern. I contacted SGI and within 30 minutes a technician called me back and worked me through a reset of the furnace (the outage was my fault---should have changed the filter as scheduled). Not recommended. Sold me on promised service and I purchased a new slantfin boiler. Installation was a nightmare and originally incorrect. Second attempt went better but took another 8 hours. Boiler was defective and overheated. Came out and got it running (-12 outside) but never returned with warranty parts. Called and was told that they have no record of selling me a boiler. I recommend Stayimg away from Home Depot and these clowns! read more

SGI came over and performed a basic furnace tune-up which was offered through Home Depot. A few months later my furnace stopped working. My furnace was only 4 years old and was under warranty for parts so I used my original HVAC company to service my furnace thinking a part had failed. The service technician told me the sensor valve was extremely dirty and just needed cleaning and that should have been checked during my last tune-up. It was not covered under my warranty. I ended up paying $200 for the emergency service call. I contacted Home Depot to complain and they contacted SGI. The SGI service manager was decent and accepted responsibility. He told me the owner is willing to reimburse me for the emergency service call and asked me to send them the invoice. My furnace would not have failed if they would have thoroughly checked the sensor 4 months previous. I never received the refund check and called them back a few times. Eventually, I got a hold of the owner, Scott Gormley. I told him it would be good if they could just refund me the $75 I paid them. Scott gave me the run-around and told me he would call me back about the refund. He never bothered to call me back. What a liar and a lousy business owner! I will never use this company again. There are much better and more reputable HVAC companies than this one. Learned a hard, expensive lesson! read more

So, 1 year after being lied to by SGI salesman Cramer about having 2 year interest free from Home Depot credit and him giving us his word that is what we will get and he even wrote it down. We now get hit with all the interest after one year.When contacting Crater,very dishonest lying salesperson, he doesn't remember anything and just passes the buck on to Home Depot. I will take this as a reflection of the SGI companies honesty and never do business with them again and anyone considering them should be advised take your business elsewhere. Not recommended. Technician misdiagnosed a simple issue that another company was able to later fix within 5 minutes. This resulted in ordering $300 of extra parts, about $200 of which were not returnable because they weren't ordered directly through SGI. Look around and find a better HVAC company. read more

SGI's salesman is first point of contact and will say anything to make the sale, Total misrepresentation, left me with no options but to take two mini-splits, overkill for 650 sq ft. And even then, result was piping in front of small cabin which is why I took his suggestion and went with both. Salesman either did not know his own product line or just lied to make the sale. Poor install, no air, all refrigerant leaked out upon one day of use. They advertise service of MI, OH yet they have no techs in any other areas than Flint so get ready to get a motel for comfort. Paid cash with small balance remaining. Being I had been mislead, poor install, and eye sore for curb appeal, I was told the owner would contact in reference to balance but instead I just received a registered Invoice for balance. Had never received invoice or call regarding balance prior to registered letter. Thought after their poor service, they were not billing me, paid cash of $6100. before install, balance of 2499. Home Depot Corporate will also be notified by registered mail. Home Depot will be made aware. read more

Not a well run group... Had a guy come out to look at replacement of 10 furnaces for an apartment complex, and for a month plus never got a quote when it was promised after a week. I would call the office explain what was going on and pretty much nothing out of them as well. I'm baffled as to why a big company like Home Depot would actually use these guys as contractors. Stopped at a kiosk in Home Depot and arranged a visit from SGI, one of their recommended providers. I was immediately impressed by the sales technician's knowledge and his thorough (4 hr) evaluation of my home outside and in every room inside. I have "advanced amateur" knowledge of HVAC systems and my N.J. brother (who is a licensed master plumber, has BS and MS in Mech engineering and is a Professional Engineer) had many nit picking items on our agenda. All were addressed respectfully I decided on Lennox's largest residential unit with 135 BTU output, 98 % efficiency, SEER 16. To address heating and cooling problems in two bedrooms I added a Carrier ductless split wall mounted system. They handled all permits and Home Depot, MFGR and DTE rebates and MFGR registrations.. I drove out to their Flint office to pick up parts to paint prior to installation. It was an impressive operation, not just a web site and 800 number. They moved the installation up a week to qualify for an expiring Home Depot rebate. All the work was completed in two days by two crews. They arrived in two large trucks which were immaculate and neatly organized to OCD standards. They covered all the carpets and stairs, were polite and made every effort to please. My concerns mid job (unfounded it turned out) were, none the less, handled calmly and professionally with in depth explanations. The sales tech came by each day to check on progress and answer questions. This firm installs about 6 systems a day all over Michigan and N. Ohio - their specialization seems to be an efficient business model and their installers are true craftsmen. I couldn't have been more pleased. read more

I am so happy that I had SGI come into my home and install the Central Air in my home. I had another company from Northville put in a Central air less than 10 years ago and it stopped working in this terrible heat that we had last week. The same company came and told me that I needed a new system. I no longer trusted the work of this company. John and Ray came to my home and informed me that the Central Air that was installed was not done correctly, so basically this other company just put in the system and with an old evaporator coil that was over 20 years old and weren't compatible. They redid everything the correct way and they did an outstanding job. My house has never felt so good! I thank you two for not only doing a great job but having compassion and your friendliness to answer any questions. My dog Bella also thanks you so much...she can now relax.
