I was looking so forward to going to the Shack it was our 39 anniversary. We get there and the man checking you in was very nice we get to our room and there is a very small TV maybe 18 inches tall by 28 inches long. Only antena, no cable etc. The room was a hot tub room with lake view 250.00, very old carpet , drop ceiling, and what they called a hot tub was a jacuzzi tub with six Jets. Very Old. No coffee pot, no frig no microwave and you can not buy a pop and there is no ice. Dinner was included and dinner was fish sticks, what looked like boiled chicken in a red sauce and what they called meat loaf with instant potatoes, canned gravey, canned green beans and canned corn with dried out dinner rolls. We tried to eat it was so bad we went back to our room picked up our luggage and left. I'm sorry this was place is not worth even 10 min of your time. read more

This place is magical! So beautiful and so much to do. We stayed in Livery East and the rooms are large and comfortable. We loved the fireplace (electric) and jacuzzi! So relaxing! The thing we looked forward to was the banana splits every night! I would have given this place a 5 star if it wasn't for the food. Breakfast just might have been the worst hotel food I've ever had. Eggs tasted like chemicals, ham was cheap, oatmeal flavorless and yogurt poor quality. After the first day, I stuck with fresh fruit and Cheerios. Dinner was much better with delicious meat, potatoes and vegetables. I'd recommend going somewhere else for breakfast... read more

Let me say to all Hotel, Motel and Bed and Breakfast owners, as far as service and cleanliness, follow this establishments model. This was by far the cleaniest Hotel I've ever stayed in. And I've stayed in expensive "Luxury" Hotels. If your looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Need a place to relax and recharge? This is the place to go! Also, you get a banana split every night served to you be the owners of the establishment! They are the nicest people we've met in our life. Breakfast and dinner is served if you'd like. Lake views, walking trails, jacuzzi, pool tables, ping pong, and shuffle board. Quite, and peaceful. Just a beautiful property with cabin style rooms. Just a peace of heaven on earth! read more

The grounds are well kept and beautiful. The food.... Please do yourself a favor and stop somewhere else. Family luncheon was ruined by the food. Seriously. It was supposed to be lunch and we were served leftover rubber eggs and Sausage gravy. We also had rubber "chicken", meatloaf in a pan, brown green beans....Warm brown salad... You get the idea. Again, the place is beautiful and clean and a favorite to many....But the food.... Which brings family together.... Horrible! Not to mention the woman behind the "buffet" NOT wearing shoes, that needs to be addressed. Not much cooking & a lot of microwaving involved with the food but it's still a health code violation. Also, the staff eating the substance at a table on our way out ( which we had paid for being a private event) was really inappropriate. Wait till we are gone. This place is too beautiful to serve the food it does. It's a shame. read more

If you like having octogenarians stare at you while you eat eggs that have somehow been prepared with sulfur, spite, and a microwave, this is the place for you. If you like coffee made from the stuff you scrape off from inside an oven, stop on by. If you've ever wanted to be lectured about the color of your shoes, again, this place is right up your alley. read more

Great weekend at the Shack. The setting is amazing and peaceful. Landscaping is awesome. Right on Robinson Lake. They have paddle boats you can use and canoes and kayaks for rent. The lodge and rooms are log cabin style and very comfortable. The staff is really nice. They are Christians and have lots of things displayed that show their beliefs. If this offends you then you should find someplace else to stay. If you stay in the main lodge bring some water bottles as the water in the rooms does not taste good. We'll be back! read more

Grounds on lake setting after recent snow was beautiful. A LOT of religious propaganda in lodge. NO staff wearing masks during pandemic surge, including those moving from table to table to refill drinks. Staff was friendly but please wear a mask when you are in the restaurant. Meals were a nice convenience but average at best. Our room was clean and minimalistic. We didn't use the hot tub. Fireplace was a disappointing-electric but did emit heat which was a plus. If I return I wouldn't get a room with hot tub or fireplace as it's not worth the extra charge. read more

Amazing room with a jacuzzi tub! The grounds were very well kept and the walking path through the woods and along the lake is very peaceful. The staff are a delight to interact with. The food is good for breakfast and dinner, but the banana splits are the best way to end the day. read more

We loved our stay at The Shack! It is a great place to relax and get away from everyday stresses! Every employee all the way up to the owner treats you like family. The 100 acre property is open for guests to go for walks of the trails, sit outside for a bonfire, or just relax with a beautiful view of the lake. The buildings are beautiful and very rustic. There are 55 rooms with some of them having a kitchenette and many of them having a hot tub or a fireplace. Dinner is a buffet of comfort food! We had ham, roast beef, barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoes, green beans, fruit, bread pudding, and rolls! Then, later in the evening comes banana splits! You get your choice of at least 10 different ice creams and you get 3 big scoops! They put it right on top of the bananas and you can add your own toppings. There is also a game room located downstairs. The breakfast buffet is also wonderful with a variety of choices! This place would be great for family reunions, church retreats, or any kind of getaway! Stayed in June 2019. Rained pretty much the whole time. Had fire place/hot tub room. Loved everything about this place. Loved all the details everywhere. Staff was great. Loved the room. Going back in July with no rain hopefully. Highly recommend this place. read more

Five stars for setting and immaculately well-kept buildings and grounds. Great location for a retreat, reunion, or meeting. I can imagine The Shack offering a lovely ambience for an outdoor wedding. One star for food. While filling, it certainly is neither creative nor interesting! Breakfast is always the same; lunch is usually a starchy sandwich/chips; and dinner? We were served the exact same thing three nights in a row!! And never a dessert, aside from the banana splits offered nightly. read more

arrived Christmas day and it was like stepping into a winter wonderland! the huge property seemed to be well maintained. my room was very small, the bathroom barely enough room to turn around in and the same with the sink area (very claustrophobic). the room furnishings were practically non-existent, very sparsely appointed with a postage stamp sized tv on the wall. I reccomment driving into Newaygo to eat! breakfast was a joke, the scrambled eggs were way overcooked (like rubber), the sausage patty was disgusting and what can you say about little Vienna wieners! Dinner was better, the pot roast was tasty. the mashed potatoes were more than likely instant. Obviously the main attraction is the scenery and beautiful lodge type buildings. wi-fi signal was poor and internet service was very slow. In my opinion it's terribly overpriced, especially for the winter season. read more

We called several times to get information about rooms, and possible a wedding ceremony. The ceremony would not have required anything blocked off or reserved, and would have been for 10 people, would have taken a max of 15 minutes, with 4 rooms being booked. We were told on each phone call to come up and talk about it. When asked if we needed a time set up, we were told no. So, we drove over an hour to this place to visit and discuss things this morning. Upon arrival, the person at the front desk informed us the Marv has given everyone a hard no for weddings because they will not block things off. Again, we weren't looking for anything like that, just simply permission to do it anywhere on site. Marv of course was not available, and never called with the contact information we left. We were never told on the phone of the "hard no" that is given to the front desk about those things. If we had, we surely would not have wasted over 2 hours of driving, to visit for 5 minutes. Absolutely disappointed. read more
