Wonderful hillside location overlooking the delightful town of Grand Lake. The lake, restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Accommodations are simple but clean and adequate. The coffee was excellent! The staff was very friendly and helpful; when discussing our plan for the day, a staff member suggested we include Lake Verna in our hike to Lone Pine Lake. We are very glad we did! It was stunning. Our room was small but comfortable. The only issue is the shared bathroom situation on the floor. The bathroom consists of a toilet behind a curtain next to a shower, and two sinks. It was not an issue during our stay as most of the other rooms on our floor were vacant. I could see it being a problem if more people had to share such limited bathroom facilities.

I had an awesome visit there today, complete with one of the best massages I've ever had (Jenny!), and I tried out about 8 or 9 of the 16 pools that were open. The bathroom was clean and overall fine, nothing fancy. Lots of steps to get to the various pools, so this wouldn't be a great visit for anyone with mobility impairment. A couple additional tips: --When you're using your favorite map app, make sure you get directions to the actual place (resort and spa), NOT to the town itself. Once you're in town, you'll have zero cell service. --Is the place a bit rustic and quirky? Yes, and that's part of the charm. The indoor lounge area looks like the set of Roseanne and probably hasn't been updated since the early 90's. But it's cozy and welcoming, there are snacks for sale, and a free coffee/tea bar. --good spots to hang out and relax around the property if you need a break from soaking; just a few are under cover if it's super sunny or raining/snowing. Lastly - I've been to several hot springs around the state of CO and this might be my new favorite. Well worth a visit!

While my husband and I are glad we checked off the experience, I can't say we would go back. The amenities do the job: showers, changing stalls, lockers, etc - but they are unkept and need an upgrade (ex: the curtains aren't wide enough and they're moldy). The variety of pools/water temps are nice, but they all look like they've seen better days. Parking is free, don't count of having cell service.

When I called the lodge, she had to walk to the office to take my reservation (since the whole property is only run by 2-3 people and often she is somewhere else other than the office). The booking was not that hard over the phone but make sure you speak slowly and clearly when you give her any info invovling numbers :D The check-in time is 3pm and check out time is 10am but you can call ahead to check in or check out at an earlier or later time. Upon arrival, Eddie and her daughter greeted us warmly. We were told since the room we originally booked had some plumbing issues we got upgraded to a better room. Yay! The new room is bigger and has a fire place. Eddie took us on a mini tour to see the other lodges on the property as well since each one has a different theme and they are actually quite funky. The lodge we stayed at was small but had adequate space. The kitchen has everything you need except spices and seasonings. There are lodges that can accommodate pets so just ask. We hiked a bit (since the lodge is pretty close to Rocky Mountain National Park. We also went to Hot Sulfur Springs at night (check out my review here http://www.yelp.com/biz/hot-sulphur-springs-resort-and-spa-hot-sulphur-springs#hrid:olYd01SdW95whyRPgZKegg) I like the fact that the lodge is close to those two things. You can probably also ski and ride horses around the area too. Just a note, before you check out, you need to take out the trash and clean the room otherwise they will fine you $25.

The dishes are not locked up and are very accessible to little children, door didn't lock and kept blowing open throughout the night. Kids easily could run out or dogs! I had black hair in my sheets. The water pressure is a trickle making showering unenjoyable and dishes very hard to clean! YOU ARE EXPECTED TO CLEAN YOUR DISHES AND ROOM before checkout, we got passive aggressive comments from SUE because I'm the WIFE and left six dishes in the sink! IT WAS MY JOB to clean them! I didn't know, there were no signs! NOW THE BIGGEST CON of all! Passive aggressive property manager! DO NOT STAY here!!! SPEND YOUR MONEY on a airbnb that deserves it! They didn't even ask us to leave but threatened to call the COPs if we didn't leave in 5 minutes in front of my toddler and infant child! I am still in SHOCK! I would like to laugh and JOKE I HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT OF NICER PLACES THEN THIS! Let me start by saying we are not criminals, we don't drink excessively and are a pretty nice clean family. After trying to coordinate a room change ALL DAY with SUE, she finally gave us 20min to switch rooms so I left the six dishes and didn't vacuum. I was honestly concerned about her turn around time! The kiddos had spilled some animal crackers on the floor but nothing a quick vacuum wouldn't fix! NOW she DID NOT TURN OVER a Room Properly! It takes more then twenty minutes to properly clean a kitchen, bedroom and bath with linens, I was a maid for years! INDUSTRY STANDARDS would say all linens need to be striped and changed. Surfaces disinfected esp. with COVID! Vacuum and mop! You would have thought we left shit In the toilet, vomit on the floor and a blown up burrito in the microwave! (ALL of WHICH I HAVE GRACIOUSLY CLEANED IN MY DAY!). So I DO THINK THE DISHES ARE NOT PROPERLY WASHED, THE BLANKETS DO NOT GET WASHED BETWEEN GUESTS AND NO MOPPING. I hope SUE gets out of the hospitality business! She thought my two year olds graham cracker floor mess was PERSONAL and it wasn't! We did leave a NORMAL mess, WE WERE ON VACATION! STAY ELSEWHERE! They kicked out our little sweet family, to fend for ourselves with 1-70 closed and the pass closed. REALLY!

It felt like stepping into real life Parent Trap's Camp Walden (not just for girls)! The mountain and lake views were spectacular. We especially loved hanging out at the pool and hot tub area. The main office has some wooden swings to hang out and enjoy the view as well. The Nuptial Knoll was gorgeous and we were told there was an "unpaved path" to get there... it was more of a hike so don't wear heels! We stayed in the "historic full cabin with 2 queens" and just so you know - there is 1 door to 1 of the bedrooms, the other queen bed is located in an open space kind of like where a living room would be. Just something to note depending on what kind of privacy you're looking for. The 2 "bedrooms" share a bathroom. It was also VERY hot. We were there during a heat wave apparently and it was in the 80s during the day, so the cabin really heated up and there is no AC. The fans provided little relief from the heat. There is no breakfast but they have a restaurant and a bar serving coffee. Also, something else to note is the altitude shortness of breath! Our cabins were located higher up on the hill so walking back up was a chore each day. Overall, a beautiful resort!

We stayed one night with our window open and blinds open just to get a little air in the burning up room. Our room was at the top of the stairwell where everyone going up or down could see into our room, but if we would have closed the shades or window it would have been too hot even on top of the cover where we stayed. We could only stay one night even though I had booked four. The owner refused to reimburse any of my money. He actually said if I checked out by 10am and someone else booked it he would give some of my money back, but when I checked out before 10am they didn't even list the room on the sites. I am guessing they probably found a way to rent it and also take my over $1000 for three more nights. I feel like the owner is a con man! The room is truly ugly. ex: old green tile shower from the 60's... The view is beautiful, the staff is sweet and the location on the boardwalk is great, but in July it needs AC! It never advertised that it did not have AC like other places ex: YMCA hotel. Please do not fall into the same trap I did. First, they have a non-refundable policy on the first night stay. Seriously, even if they have to close for COVID, they'll keep your money and may offer a credit toward a future night stay. My bride is an RN who was working a COVID-related function. Her employer was shifting her shifts so our ability to guarantee that night would work for us was in doubt until she took another position at another company. But, we took the chance and booked the room, knowing we risked losing the first night's fee. When we arrived on Saturday we were advised that we had been 'upgraded' to a larger room at no additional charge. I had researched the rooms in the lodge and specifically requested a room that was on the river side. Our 'upgraded' room was on the parking lot side, meaning it was hotter and had no sound of the running river. I really didn't want the upgraded room, and had to pry out of Carol that the room we originally booked was 'unavailable'. With so few cars in the lot, she obviously didn't have a lot of bookings for the night. But, she basically handed me the keys and told me that I had to choose right then and there if I was going to take the 'upgraded' room, or refund my money. She stated she wasn't going to give me a chance to see if there were other open rooms in town that I could pick up, just take it or leave it, on the spot! Having driven through town on this Saturday afternoon, I wasn't hopeful that we'd find something for similar prices. So I walked away telling her she didn't leave much choice. We took the room. It turns out there would likely have been plenty of rooms for that night as well as the second night we stayed in town both at the lodge as well as other establishments. I wasn't bothered so much by the fact they had to change our room as I was by the attitude of take it or leave it right now, without a chance to see if there was anything else available. With so few cars in the lot the next morning there were obviously rooms to be had in the lodge. The lodge is close to the lake, and all the best places to eat in town. So location is good. The room - well... Let's just say that it is obvious that the construction and finish were not done by professionals. The room was clean and good size. The mattress was past due for replacement. No maid service meant we had only one set of towels for our stay, only one shot at coffee (unless you brought your own), and fix your own bed. We had planned on eating in the restaurant by the river's edge, but Carol made me so frustrated at her lack of customer service we decided to eat elsewhere in town for every meal. All in all, the lodge is rustic and well located. I would recommend other places in town over here though based purely on the customer service experience.
