Took a girls trip from Alabama to Rocky Mountain National Park and picked The Rapids Lodge after an Internet search. I could not have been more pleased with the way our stay turned out. I reserved a river view condo and it was amazing. We spent a lot of time on our deck overlooking the river. Spectacular view! Our condo had one queen bed, two twin beds in the loft, and two bathrooms. We commented over and over how there was not one speck of dust ANYWHERE! Not even on the decorative items above the kitchen cabinets. The place was immaculate! Our fireplace was great early each morning but we only needed it for a few minutes before the sun came out strong and we were on our way out the door to tour the town's boardwalk and enjoy a pontoon ride. We were out enjoying the fabulous weather and scenery for most of our trip but the time spent at the lodge was so relaxing and enjoyable. The rates were great too. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer and try out the restaurant. Definitely will try on my next stay. Each of us are already planning a return trip to Grand Lake and we will absolutely stay at the Rapids Lodge again! read more

Majestic surroundings on the Tonahutu Creek! NYE dinner menu was spectacular, combining exquisite flavors to perfection. The Lodge is definitely historic in nature, both in the building, and the management's ideas of customer service in the age of COVID. First, they have a non-refundable policy on the first night stay. Seriously, even if they have to close for COVID, they'll keep your money and may offer a credit toward a future night stay. My bride is an RN who was working a COVID-related function. Her employer was shifting her shifts so our ability to guarantee that night would work for us was in doubt until she took another position at another company. But, we took the chance and booked the room, knowing we risked losing the first night's fee. When we arrived on Saturday we were advised that we had been 'upgraded' to a larger room at no additional charge. I had researched the rooms in the lodge and specifically requested a room that was on the river side. Our 'upgraded' room was on the parking lot side, meaning it was hotter and had no sound of the running river. I really didn't want the upgraded room, and had to pry out of Carol that the room we originally booked was 'unavailable'. With so few cars in the lot, she obviously didn't have a lot of bookings for the night. But, she basically handed me the keys and told me that I had to choose right then and there if I was going to take the 'upgraded' room, or refund my money. She stated she wasn't going to give me a chance to see if there were other open rooms in town that I could pick up, just take it or leave it, on the spot! Having driven through town on this Saturday afternoon, I wasn't hopeful that we'd find something for similar prices. So I walked away telling her she didn't leave much choice. We took the room. It turns out there would likely have been plenty of rooms for that night as well as the second night we stayed in town both at the lodge as well as other establishments. I wasn't bothered so much by the fact they had to change our room as I was by the attitude of take it or leave it right now, without a chance to see if there was anything else available. With so few cars in the lot the next morning there were obviously rooms to be had in the lodge. The lodge is close to the lake, and all the best places to eat in town. So location is good. The room - well... Let's just say that it is obvious that the construction and finish were not done by professionals. The room was clean and good size. The mattress was past due for replacement. No maid service meant we had only one set of towels for our stay, only one shot at coffee (unless you brought your own), and fix your own bed. We had planned on eating in the restaurant by the river's edge, but Carol made me so frustrated at her lack of customer service we decided to eat elsewhere in town for every meal. All in all, the lodge is rustic and well located. I would recommend other places in town over here though based purely on the customer service experience. read more

Staying here with my 11 year old son and 22 year old nephew. Accomodations are clean as a pin! Can walk to downtown in 3 minutes. Came to snowmobile. Next stay will be Summer. Cannot wait! read more

This is the second time I've stayed at the Rapids Lodge and both times have been great experiences. While I have yet to eat at the restaurant, it's such a cozy setting with windows that look out onto the river; very appealing. We booked fairly last minute for Valentine's Day weekend and still got a spacious, clean, comfortable room with everything we needed. I like the fact that the lodge is situated right at the end of town within walking to the lake or to the downtown boardwalk shops and restaurants. The owner was gracious and friendly. We'll definitely stay there again next time we're in Grand Lake. read more

We stayed in one of the condos (#5) on the river, and it was by far the best choice! It's a quaint little one bedroom condo, with a kitchen and bathroom. The family room has a fold out couch and a TV, but we never even turned the TV on. If you had kids, this place can sleep 4 comfortably-2 people in the queen sized bed, and 2 on the fold out couch. I wouldn't suggest trying to fit more than that. I also am very particular about cleanliness, and was very pleased with how clean everything was. I loved that we could walk out the back door and see the river about 15 feet away. Beautiful! The staff was also very friendly. We also dined at the restaurant that is adjoined to the main building, and had a great meal. It is pricy ($30-$40 a plate), but well worth it if you are looking to spend that much on dinner. My husband had the bison and I had the chicken and we both ate every last bite. There aren't any vegetarian items on the menu, but I heard another customer ask if they had any, and they were able to accommodate her vegetarian request. We made 7pm dinner reservations and ended up getting a seat next to the window facing the river. It didn't appear reservations were needed as there were a lot of empty tables, but we were wondering if making the reservation helped with getting a good table. The lodge itself is located within walking distance to the main part of town. Lots of cute shops and other dining options. When we come back, we will definitely be staying here again, and requesting the same room! read more

My boyfriend and I visited this lodge last week and loved it. If polish and bricks are what you require, I wouldn't recommend staying here. It is quaint in the most fabulous way. Our room was very small and woodsy; the floor boards creak and the bathroom door wouldn't stay open unless propped with an antique bird doorstop. The bed was very comfortable, but I gotta say their pillows suck. Their was a tv and they had a zillion channels accessible. The tv in our room was incredibly small, like 10" which I thought was strange, but we didn't watch it much anyway. We found their staff friendly and helpful. Dinner at the lodge is like $40 an entree, so we didn't test that part out - yikes! It's located just outside of 'town,' right beside a rolling creek. We had a lovely stay and I would recommend it to anyone (except concrete wall city folks) :) read more

We stayed here last weekend and had a great time. We didn't eat in the restaurant but we did stay in the main lodge in room 3. It's a little small but has a nice size bathroom. The bed was comfy and the sound of the river was very relaxing. The room doesn't have much of a view, mostly the roof. That was a little disappointing since it was advertised as "river facing". Next time I will stay in one of the condos that do have a back porch that is right on the river. The staff was very pleasant and we enjoyed our stay. It's very close and within walking distance of all the action in town. Great location really. We will be back! read more

Wow. No reviews on Yelp on the actual lodge... that should have been a warning to me when I decided to make a reservation there. Out of the few places in Grand Lake, I chose this historic place which is situated within a stone's throw from the town and lake and has a babbling river next to it. Sounds idyllic. But it was far below my expectations (and I'm not a very picky person). I paid way too much for a weekend there, and it seems like they have not updated the rooms since they opened the hotel in 1915. You can maintain the history of the building without sacrificing taste! Everything in there was too out-of-date that quaint doesn't even fit. A nugget hidden on the website discovered much too late shows that the place is haunted, and we experienced some strange things in the middle of the night. It would have been nice to have that out in the open-- I would have chosen some place else! The restaurant is okay. We decided not to eat there for dinner since it seemed way overpriced. I would prefer to go to one of the two nice restaurants in Granby. We did eat brunch there and they should have matched the prices to the portions. It's definitely worth a visit to see the river .. that is probably the coolest part of the whole property. Consider this a warning and stay someplace else in Grand Lake... there are many cute cabins and basic hotels. You don't need to pay an arm and leg to stay in a place that is woefully out-of-date and haunted. read more

Rustic, outdated, and overpriced. We stayed in the Tree House, suite on top floor of the lodge. Ok, the lodge is old but the floors felt like they were slanted. Paint was peeling and cracks in walls. Dated everything. Angled ceilings awkward, especially for anyone over say, 5 feet 8 inches. Very uncomfortable mattresses (c'mon!!!!!). Mismatched kitchenware. Request you wash your own dishes. No dishwasher (that is not a full kitchen if you ask me). Microwave very old and cheap - took long time to heat. No air conditioning but fans. Creaky floors. Board games- 4/5 did not have pieces to even play. River is nice, of course. Good location. No breakfast but accessible to town. Way overpriced for not much! Checked out and receptionist did not even ask how our stay was! Avoid. read more

We had a great weekend here! We stayed in the TreeHouse suite which easily accommodated 5 people and was very reasonably priced! The owners were nice and helpful and the location cannot be beat. Close to restaurants and bars and within driving distance to Granby for skiing! Would definitely stay again. read more

We rented one of their four pet friendly cabins for a few days. It was a cute little cabin that reminded my husband of the bunkhouse on his childhood farm. Very rustic, quaint and CUTE CUTE CUTE! The kitchenette was surprisingly well-stocked from pots and pans, dishes, and silverware to even a toaster, coffee maker, can opener ... even a potato masher!! They thought of everything! The only things you need to bring from home are plastic wrap, Ziploc baggies and your own paper towels and napkins. There was even a "pet pail" there filled with plastic poop bags, a braided rug, a water bowl and little doggie biscuits! One heads-up we wanted to share is that there are very few outlets in a cabin this old, and the only outlet that we could charge our cells with was in the kitchen. But it didn't matter because our experience there made it a non-issue. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Our TV's audio went out the afternoon before we left and the front desk gal came RIGHT OVER and fixed it herself! She was my husband's hero, as the NASCAR race was on!!! I can't remember her name, but she spoke with a South African accent. The Ludwigs can be proud of their employees! Even though our cabin was right at the entrance and exit to the property, it was surprisingly quiet through the night, even with the bedroom window open a few inches! It was our first visit to the Rapids, and it won't be our last! We'll be sure to visit again next summer and try out the restaurant next time.
