Patty Melt was on rye as it should be with grilled onions. Staff was very friendly anfd for just two of them covered all the tables, over lapping and helping each other,very nice to see. The staff was very welcoming for us, obviously our first visit. We were there for breakfast and tried their buffet, which was limited but it was all good. The restaurant looked like it was originally a home and was decorated for Halloween - we were told the spider webs were the worst to do, and we laughed over maybe they shouldn't remove any real cobwebs until next year. read more

Finally got to the iconic Shady Bend and it did not disappoint. Sunny side up eggs cooked perfectly, crispy bacon, yummy hashed browns and some gravy on the side. My boyfriend had the chicken fried steak and it too was as close to perfect as it gets. Excellent service. I'll be back again to tryout the other items. Highly recommend! read more

The Grilled Ham & Cheese was okay, not to big of o sandwhich. I asked the waitress if Macaroni salad was homemade, she assured me it was. Didn't take long for food to arrive. The salad had no taste what do ever and was small and tasted like store salad. The waitress never came back to offer me more to drink or ask if I wanted dessert. I went to go pay and asked for Coccunut pie to go. That pie tasted soggy and like it had been in the refrig a few days. Didn't taste homemade. Very disappointed. I'm not sure I'd recommend anyone to eat there. Prices were high. read more

Salad bar is so good. Meatloaf and potatoes with gravy were fine. Clean and great service. Would def eat there again. Building is fun inside with what appears original restored wood and the bathrooms are well done. I've driven past this place and couldn't decide it it was open or not. Glad I finally tried it. This is a great place to eat. My husband and I visited this restaurant a few months ago. The waitress we had was a great host and the service provided was exceptional. We ordered BLT soup with a Monte Crisco sandwich and a side of fries. Our food was delicious and the dining setting was comfortable. The atmosphere in the Shady Bend Café is warm and inviting. It is also in a historical building that has amazing architecture inside of it. We would recommend anyone living in Grand Island and people who are going through Grand Island to stop here at the Shady Bend Café and have some good food. read more
