I scheduled an appointment seeking compassionate guidance for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). To my surprise--and dismay--Dr. Michael D. Kelly and his nurse practitioner denied me service without even reviewing my medical history. My last C-section was six years ago, yet instead of taking the time to listen, Dr. Kelly dismissed my request outright. As a patient, I expect at least a thoughtful conversation. Instead, I felt rushed, unheard, and judged--like I was being penalized for asserting what I believe to be a reasonable birth plan. The nurse practitioner's bedside manner only deepened my frustration; their off-putting demeanor made an already stressful moment feel untenable. At the very least, I hoped for professionalism and empathy. What I encountered felt the opposite. Seeking a respectful discussion about VBAC shouldn't result in denial of care--but here, it did. I came in with concerns about pain, mood changes, and possible IUD side effects, but the doctor was dismissive and made me feel talked down to. Instead of listening, he focused on telling me I was "doing myself a disservice" by being mildly depressed, which felt judgmental rather than supportive. When I asked about pain management options for an IUD procedure, he immediately brought up "not prescribing narcotics," even though I never requested them. The comment felt unnecessary. There are other OBGYNs that offer pain management for such procedures. He also asked personal life questions that didn't feel relevant to my care, which added to the overall discomfort. He even prescribed an anti-depressant... Left the appointment feeling unheard and frustrated. I will be seeking a different OB-GYN who offers more compassionate, patient-centered care and acknowledges valid concerns about pain and reproductive health.

The Dr. decided to do a biopsy on a mole that had changed. What a shock when the results came back as malignant melanoma. She referred us to Dr. Lee at Texas Oncology in The Woodlands. The person making the appointments was so understanding and as it was the week between Christmas and New Years it was just hard to see anyone. She got us in at the first week of January which was great. Dr. Lee came into the room, she still had on scrubs and the hair wrap they wear in surgery, she was so nice and reassuring. She talked to my wife and made her feel secure and that she would get the best treatment. She said my wife needs a PET scan, we can get that at our local hospital in Kingwood. She said after she sees the results she will know more and we will have a game plan for treatment. Can't say enough about her and the staff, they have all been wonderful.

She is kind, funny and very efficient. I planned on delivering naturally so Karen was a logical choice. If any complications should arise, there are three doctors on the team to assist in any way. Come the day of delivery (New Year's Eve), Dr. Gerald Bullock was on call. So it was all go-time with him. He too is kind, funny and very efficient. Especially when I ended up having an unscheduled C-section. The nurses all complimented me on the neatness and how low my incision is. Yes- I am bikini ready! Just some notes: * I always got in quickly to see Karen. The only time I really had to wait was on my first visit. * These doctors are busy!! They are right next to the hospital and babies are always being born, so you might have to wait if your doc is out. For me this was not a big deal because I figured one day a patient will have to wait a little longer because I am the one who needs the doctor. * The office staff is very friendly. I only wish they would have called me a few times sooner to let me know Karen was helping with a delivery instead of having me wait in the office. * I did have complications after giving birth and felt guilty about making that 3 a.m. call, but glad I did. Meds were quickly called in for me to pick up and keep me out of the ER.

The receptionist Heather and Lisa are amazing as well. I am currently going through a complicated pregnancy, and could not get an early appointment. So I called to speak to a nurse to get some understanding about my situation. Janice was very rude, unprofessional, and at a time asked me "what you mean", showing her lack of intelligence and ignorance. I spoke to her about my condition, my body showing signs of miscarriage and about me just being hospitalized. Janice said rudely that they didn't have an earlier appointment, and if they did I would have gotten one. Which is completely incorrect, in the event someone is miscarrying or showing signs of complications Dr. Bullock gets them in immediately. I know from experience. Attempting to still be calm I told her my concerns, and the statistics of something going wrong in my rare case. She very rudely said "where are you getting all of this from", that was it, I lost it. I have miscarried, I know the signs, I went to school for medical assisting, and am currently pursuing my nursing degree. I'm petrified of going through another miscarriage, I've been vomiting constantly, and I refuse to be belittled by a woman who can't even speak proper english in a professional environment. So she hangs up on me of course. So I call back in the hopes to get an understanding of my situation. I was transferred to a M.A. , and was very polite and calm. She answered with an attitude because of Janice, she did not allow me to ask any questions, she spoke over me, and told me all she could do was make me an appointment, which I already have. I was attempting to tell her my concerns and about the prior discussion I had with Janice. She said very rudely, I was sitting next to Janice while you were talking to her. Obviously only hearing Janice, and reiterating what Janice THOUGHT I was saying. Janice' s inability to properly process information is not my problem, and instead of hearing out my concerns and HELPING the M.A refused to even listen to me because of my discussion with Janice. So not only did I get hung up on once by Janice, I got hung up on by the M.A. I'm emotional, I'm sick, I'm weak, I'm unnerved about my complications. It's their job to help, instead of ganging up on a patient who is clearly already upset. I called to speak to the office manager and no call back. So unfortunately as much as I LOVE Dr. Bullock now I have to find a new Ob Gyn, due to his unprofessional staff and nurse. In my opinion if an individual can not put themselves aside to have a simple conversation and want to go further to bully a patient, they're in the wrong profession, and if they can't do their jobs they should not be employed. Furthermore if the M.A loses her job behind trying to coat-tail with Janice, is Janice going to provide financially for the M.A? I'm confused. So normally I would give Dr. Bullock 5stars, for this I'm only giving him two, and again this is sad. Dr. Bullock has been amazing, and I hate to lose him as my doctor.
