A lady comes up to me & says "they're looking for you". I don't understand & walk back to say oh they found me they're looking for you as well. "Jackie" states " I have papers nothing to worry about" while her friends let out a great big laugh. To say this to someone who is minding their business sitting down is unacceptable & wildly inappropriate. Honestly never heard of this place until we were looking for something to do. It's just a couple miles from the main strip of 111. But tucked behind some of the beautiful gated communities, you end up here. We didn't know what to expect or how it would be. Thought it would be some park of sorts. Well... It is tucked with the mountains in the background which makes for a beautiful view. Hiking is not far from it and there's loads of beautiful homes in gated communities. We didn't know that camping was also offered here. It's a little drive up to the main gate which there's a fee for entering. The person working the station was gracious enough to let us in as we just wanted to check it out. First off, it's a man made lake. You enter the park area with parking both to the left and right side. There's plenty of spots in both of the parking lot. We went to the right which from the looks of the park, it is well maintained. There's a small little playground on one end, a pool area in the middle and a pickleball court and a basketball court to the other end. That's would be the main park area. If you continue to drive down toward the front, there's campsites. Areas with a grill, a spot for your car as well as water and electricity. Depending on what you need, the fee will be added. You could just camp as if without the electricity. Also the sites are pretty much next to each other. We drove to the other side where there's more campsite which this one is more primitive style. Bring everything yourself. The other side was more of a dirt lot. Not sure what it would be utilize for. Lake area does look man made and well maintained. Looking down it looked as it was like an amphitheater with the steeps leading down. We did find out that you can fish but no swimming or boating allowed. There's a fee if you wanted to fish. Basically a fee for everything. Overall, it's a decent park tucked away. Camping available but not the roughing kind. Small park area but does have a pool. It was pretty quiet when we arrived as it was hot. Would we pay to come in after we've seen this place, probably not. But at least we know what to expect incase we do happen to be back again.

The lake was very low and the water was not accessible except in a few areas. No dogs allowed in the water. It's definitely not a beautiful place but might be fun for groups and kids. The bathroom was really disgusting and It had not been cleaned in quite some time. Very disappointing. We hoped to possibly see some bighorn sheep but they have put up a fence so they can't get to the lake now.

This trailhead seemed popular especially since it's close to the city. For this particular trail, you follow the signs for Indio Hills Badlands. It's straightforward for the most part but also recommend downloading the map from AllTrails in case you need it. Trail was comprised of sand and dirt. Plenty of rock formations throughout the hike and awesome views at higher elevation. This hike sort of reminds me of a mix of Slot Canyon in Anza Borrego and Vasquez Rocks in Agua Dulce. If you live in Indio, Palm Desert (where they have another location), or Rancho Mirage, the rates are ridiculously cheap. If you're tired of the scene at 24-Hour Fitness and/or Gold's, check this place out -- not only will you get a lot more, you'll get a lot more for your money.

This monument to Dr. June McCarroll is located in Doug York Plaza in downtown Indio. Dr. McCarroll…read morewas on her way to her medical offices in Indio in 1917, driving an Model-T Ford, when she was run off the road by a truck. (Reminds me of "Duel", Steven Spielberg's best movie imho). Scary, right? Luckily, she survived. As a member of a healing profession, she decided to use her experience to help others and invented the idea of painting a while line down the middle of the road to prevent accidents. Not only did she come up with this idea, Dr. McCarroll campaigned for highway delineation lines which were eventually used not only in California but all over the world. Her achievement warranted this marker placed facing Indio Boulevard, which does indeed feature white delineation lines. Not only did Dr. McCarroll advocate for public safety, she was one of the first female physicians in the area and the only physician providing medical care for the Cahuilla Native Americans forced to live on local reservations. Talk about girl power! Stop by this well-deserved monument and reflect on what one woman can do for the common good.
