Some of the worst service I ever had...While friendly. it was clear the waitress has those running the place didn't have a clue...Had to wait 25 minutes just to put my order in and then 20 minutes for food...I got a double burger and was less than impressed...burgers seemed like a bigger version of a McDonalds pattie....For the cheese there was nothing but a tiny amount of shredded cheese on them...I get burgers all around the country and I give these burgers a 4 out of 10....The fries were disgusting as it tasted like the fryer oil hadn't been changed in a long time. read more

#48-2021 new ownership stay oil company that has different locations throughout Southern Tennessee now owns the shady lawn. there's been a few changes but not really a whole lot the most noticeable when you first walk in is there wearing Chevron uniforms now also on the restaurant no more of the classic shady lawn truck stop shirts with the chicken on the front. chapel has been removed from the back because it was not owned by this current owner it was owned by the previous owner so they moved it out it's gone. it's still the same old building the shop is no longer used either so if you need repairs you have to call a different facility. it still fills up very quickly in the early evening got to get here and get you a parking spot or you're going to be screwed. as far as the restaurant goes they have an upgraded menu I looked at what I had my favorite one of the old standbys grill tenderloin and eggs had it again and I noticed it went up by a buck no big deal in 9 months. they did remove the boots and now have strictly tables a lot of changes since post covid. as of this writing of the 31st of March 2021 there's only two days a week they closed the restaurant at night due to the limited staffing hoping to get everything back again to the 24/7/365. truck stop itself is still open all the time. restaurant was nice and clean and of course to tenderloin was fantastic, two eggs over medium white toast hash browns no doubt about it. Many of old staff are still here too. still have the Charlie big's Chicken Express. but all in all food was good definitely a good breakfast spot as you can still see by the crowd even with the locals too along with the travelers and truckers. read more

They offer breakfast and lunch at 10am. Known for their fried chicken, I had to try it! The food is delicious, staff is very nice and attentive, and the portions are big! The restaurant is located inside of the gas station. Probably seats 30 people at high capacity. For a family of 5 with entrees and drinks, $33. Did I mention this place is a bargain as well? I ordered the fried chicken (leg and thigh) with mashed potatoes and gravy with mac and cheese. Sooooo good! The mashed potatoes were creamy and simple yet completely satisfying. The fried chicken was noisy and the skin was super crispy. The seasoning on the chicken was spot on. This truck stop doesn't appear to be very big or fancy, but we and our travel companion had plenty of room to park our RVs. The little restaurant was great! They serve breakfast during lunchtime, as well as burgers and fried chicken. if you want a simple home-cooked meal, this is perfect! The service was also great! read more

It is home to BIG CHICKEN. It is a Family Oriented Travel Center. While they do cater a bit more to the big rigs, they welcome the automobile traveler as well. Clean restrooms! They are known for their Good Food. There is a small prayer chapel around back in case you feel the need for a private moment to speak with The Big Man as you travel Tennessee's Interstate 65. Or if you find yourself traveling through the area on any Sunday, they even hold a worship service there as well. And maybe the most important detail about the Shady Lawn Shell; is they are a friend to the traveler with an unexpected emergency. As I understand, a local church helps with a TIN (Travelers In Need) fund. It must be General Manager approved but I have seen them put folks up in local hotel when they were broken down. I have seen them help with an auto repair. Once I even saw a bus ticket purchased and ride to the bus terminal provided for young lady who had to leave her automobile with a blown engine behind. read more

I live close to Shady Lawn & have eaten there may times, but I'm not sure I will eat there anymore. We ordered take out for 5 people. totaling $53.00. When we went to pick it up the waitress was rude, & one of the cashiers was very rude to the man in front of us. When we got home, nobody's order was right. There were 3 sides missing, no butter or sour cream for the baked potato, it was a mess. I was very disappointed in Shady Lawn that night. read more

Shady Lawn is a great find! They are putting the love into some terrific Southern Specialties. Prices are a bargain, portions are very large (shareable), and food quality is excellent.
