I wish I'd take a photo of the food but I inhaled it too fast. I got a Chicken sandwich with fries, and got a burger with fries for my boyfriend. Both were awesome, I love their fries it's like my favorite kind. Got some of Joy's fudge while I was there. If I found out I was dying tomorrow, I think her orange creamsicle fudge would be my top ask. Awesome to see locally made goodies and hand crafted soaps, lib balms, etc! We left Bristol and headed to Mountain City on Hwy 421 making our way back to Boone, this is a relatively short drive I assumed (it's actually about 37 miles), what I didn't know was that this drive also goes by the name "The Snake" and is a famous route frequented by motorcycle enthusiasts that crosses one valley, three mountains and has 489 curves that cuts across the Cherokee National Forest, it's beautiful and challenging even in my Maverick with very few turnouts to let the motorcycles and sport cars that run this road like it's a time trial go around you - well I was able to navigate it just fine and pulled over a few times to watch some pretty impressive driving by the bikes and sport cars. When I reached Shady Valley and found this Country Store believe me I was ready for a driving break being this location is consider the half way point on "The Snake" and after a short stop I knew I would have to reengage with this beast. My boyfriend and I were motorcycle riding the Snake and came up on Shady Valley Country Store and it is such a great little stop! The staff is friendly, the store is clean, they have a nice variety of items and good food. It has that welcoming small-town feel that makes you want to come back again. Stopped to meet some friends. Ordered a burger and fries. Thanks to inflation the burger was pretty small. The fries were awful. Different lengths and thickness's of home cut potato resulted in a mess of over cooked / under cooked "fries". Bad for the customer and bad for your cooking oil. I used to manage 2 KFC's so I know about french fries. Do yourself a favor and just buy some frozen crinkle cut. You will save on labor and oil costs plus you'll have happier customers. A must stop just to say you've been there and to see inside. It's kind of like going back in time. Store was built back in the 1920's and is a famous stop for bikers traveling "The Snake" I didn't realize until we went in the back of the store there is a cut up map of continents of the world where you can place a push pin from where you came from. Really cool! There are people from all parts of the world that have stopped in this place! Who knew! I love all the different rocking chairs that line the extended porch of the building. It's mostly a stop for drinks and chips or candy. They do make fried bologna sandwiches too if you're hungry. read more

Shady Valley country store is really a rest stop for those that road the snake. It provides a place to rest, relax, and fuel up after the grueling ride. The service is definitely what makes this place stand out. The people are friendly and courteous. It contains a small diner but I didn't eat there. The main reason to stop is rest and getting a patch or sticker to commemorate your ride. The funny and possible the scary art is all the motorcycle parts that are hanging from the walls and ceiling of motorcycles that weren't full successful. A perfect oasis along 421. It would be easy to run in and grab a Coke after getting some gas, but you would miss the best part of the store ... order some food (they have an assortment of sandwiches, burgers, and dogs) and browse the gift shop items. Better yet, buy a cold drink and sit a spell on the front porch as you enjoy this wonderful part of America. Bikers can swap stories about how they tamed The Snake ... the portion of nearby 421 with more than 400 corners. Definitely worth a visit. read more
