This is the biggest dog park in the area. The membership is pricey (as of this writing, $37/month per dog for a 7 day membership). I've been a member of this park for a couple of years now and have always been a big fan. Plenty of room to run, and a swimming pond for the doggies in warmer weather (my favorite!). There is an access card you can use to enter and exit at your leisure, and a clubhouse if you need customer service.
Oh wait......customer service. That may be the one thing that is lacking in this canine superpark. Sure, they'll help you get a membership and all that jazz, but I'm talking about what happens AFTER you're a solid customer. Look, it's a dog park. On occasion there's going to be a bit of a scuffle. I get that. But aggression and intent to attack is something I can't stand for. So I submitted a complaint via email since the clubhouse was closed at the time the incident occurred. Imagine my surprise when I got ZERO response for a week. Now I'm not an everyday patron, so next time I went to the park, I went into the clubhouse to discuss what happened. What I was greeted with was confusion. "Didn't you ever hear back from anyone? I printed out your email and left it on the desk." No. Never heard back from anyone. I then got profuse apologies and an explanation of their intent. A few hours later I also got a nice email from a staff member. Okay, cool. That's all I wanted.
Fast forward a couple of months. My other half took our dog to the park at the same time that the "Shaggy Shuttle" was on the premises. The Shaggy Shuttle is a van that picks up dogs from various surroundings in the GR area (boarding facilities or private homes that don't have time to run their dogs) and takes them to the park for a couple of hours. The only problem with this is that there is only one staff member supervising 5-10 dogs. A dog ran up to our pooch, jumped on her, and attacked her. Boyfriend pulled the attacking dog off and he proceeded to bite him. Hard. Drew blood. To their credit, the staff member offered medical assistance, but we never heard anything after that. Not a phone call, not an email, nothing. A week later I walked into the clubhouse again to discuss and was told by a staff member to just write an email, as she didn't know anything about it.
Let me tell you....if I neglected to follow up on these sort of complaints in my own job, I would be fired. When a customer is BITTEN while you have a dog UNDER YOUR SUPERVISION, maybe a phone call or an apology letter is in order. My bf COULD have gone to the med center and they would've reported it to the health department, who would have had that dog quarantined for 10 days and possibly put down. Maybe it's a good idea to follow up with people and make sure they are okay. We never did hear any sort of response from management, or anyone else for that matter. Disappointing, to say the least.
I give Shaggy Pines 3 stars because my dog loves to go there and run free. She also loves to swim. The facilities are very nice, and if there wasn't this customer service issue, SP would get a 5 from me. I've been a member there for 3 years and have just had problems within the last few months. Who knows....maybe the park is getting too big with too many dogs running around. But for goodness sake....people and other dogs' safety matters. Or at least it should, right?
